I don't know if there are still people on 4.0.2.A.0.62 with locked bootloaders and they want root, but I found these threads and would like to let you know

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090 follow the guide and you will be rooted with a locked bootloader.
Its really work that way ?
Yes. I and many others have successfully used the method above to downgrade to 2.3.2 then root then ota update to 2.3.3. Just follow all the steps and you will be alright
Hi,
I have a brand new Sony Ericsson UK Xperia Play on Android 2.3.3, Build: 3.0.1.A.0.145. (Latest T-Mobile OTA Update).
I want to:
Root my phone and Try out Cyanogeon Mod
Am I correct in thinking that to root my phone I need to unlock my bootloader or do i need to downgrade somehow?
Thanks,
XperiaPlayer
If your device is sim locked, you cannot unlock the bootloader, without an unlock bootloader, you must downgrade in order to root, check out the stickies in the android development forum

Right,
So to get it rooted it would be better to downgrade?
Regarding the sim-unlock thing, when I put the IMEI into sony's website it gave me an unlock code? (However Im going to try an orange sim in it)
Also to downgrade is it simple (As in through SEUS) or would one be better off unlocking the bootloader and flashing a rooted kernel?
Thanks,
XperiaPlayer

To root you do not need an unlocked bootloader, but for you to install CM7 you do need an unlocked bootloader.
If you unlock your bootloader you will not get updates from SE (SEUS, OTA or Pc Companion if you try to use any of them after unlocking your bootloader it will brick your phone) you will have to come to this fourm for the updates. Plus it will void your phones warranty but you can now relock the bootloader thanks to blagus so i suppose that doesn't matter really.
You can try unlocking your bootloader (worth a try if you cannot get another sim? it will either fail or succeed), follow the guide here. Or follow the steps on the SE website. If it works you do not need to downgrade since you can install any of the rooted .img's or custom kernels e.t.c which are on 2.3.3 and are rooted.
If you cannot unlock your bootloader you can still root but you will have to downgrade to 2.3.2 using flashtools.
You can only root (with a locked bootloader) on on 2.3.2 since gingerbreak does not work on 2.3.3 (its been patched). So if you want root on 2.3.3 you will have to flash 2.3.2 then root then do the ota update. Follow the guide here to root with a locked bootloader.
Using flashtools to downgrade is the exact same as using SEUS really (both need the phone off and to be connected in flash mode).
hi, every xperia play owners in this forum, my this thread is for a noob question i just wanted to know would i will be able to upgrade to official 2.3.4 firmware without flashing process after i had unlocked my bootloader, rooted and have flashed dooms kernel on it ?? will it brick my phone or i hav to relock bootloader ??
Updating normally will brick the phone with an unlocked bootloader. You would need to re-lock it or flash the ROM manually.

Hii
I just got my Z2 rooted with this method
I just followed the steps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/guide-how-to-root-xperia-z2-android-5-1-t3253878
Just one question
My bootloader sayz unlock not allowed...
Can I now flash TWRP or not?
Or is it just that I can not flash kernels??
I dont understand what is diffrent with bootloader locked and unlocked
Mine as I have read is locked forever so I dont want to brick my device or something...
Some advice about such bootloaders and what I can NOT DO would help me to understand
Thanks in advance
EDIT 01:
I just have followed the link in that post where I have rooted the phone
And just got TWRP installed as my recovery
So just to let you guys know evan dual recovery works fine with L5.1.1.
Just to say I have LockedBootloader
So guys please advice me for further
What restrictions do I have with the LB in diffrence to Unlocked BL
Can I do exact the same flashing of things like they on unlocked BL or not?
What should I be carefull about
Please guy give some info
1- With locked bootloader
you can only flash sony stock based roms (you can flash miui rom as there is a version with sony stock base).
you cannot flash cyanogenmod or custom kernels and any other rom.not based on stock sony.
2- with Unlocked bootloader
You can flash any custom rom or kernel for xperia z2 including cyanogenmod.
But you will LOOSE your DRM keys if you unlock your bootloader which will degrade the camera quality and xreality engine...

You cant accidentally unlock your BL and if it says it cant be unlocked Im afraid it is locked forever. There is no any way to unlock it AFAIK. If you have root, which it looks like you do, you can install TWRP by downloading an app TWRP manager from the plat store, give it root permission and in Install section find your variant of Z2 and let it doo its thing. It will automatically flash recovery.img and reboot and thats it.
Now you can flash all [UB] as unlocked bootloader marked roms, but no custom kernels and AOSP ROMs.
In my experience, if you try to flash something for LB it will just produce an error and you can reboot your device normally without any changes.
Thanks guys !!!
No its all clear to me

Worked for me also but mine is also locked bootloader
It's work really good on my Xperia D6503 (23.4.A.1.264) with locked bootloader
I know with the Z3 i was able to flash an older firmware without unlocking the bootloader or doing any changes in order to be on a easily rootable version. Is it the same way with the X Compact?
There are some DirtyCow-tools to root phones, but I don't know if root is persistent or if it even works on the XCs ROMs. You can just download the earliest ROM you can find and try it youself. There are some ressources around, although not in this forum.
So yes, you should be able to downgrade and root, but so far nobody has posted any first person reports wether it works with the X Compact.
Thanks. I installed the firmware listed by Androplus in his advanced stock kernel 34.1.A.1.198 and worked from there. I guess in time there will be a way to root without unlocking bootloader but for now i'm happy. Now just waiting for a way to mirror the screen with the unlocked bootloader.
