So, here's my question, (i'm newb in this thing but i know the basics, I'm owner of rooted Samsung Galaxy S)
can I use this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948 without any problems?
I want to update that old 2.3.7 MIUI to something newer, for eg. 4.1.2
Also this phone has been bought from chinese company fyi.

You can use pretty much any guide and while I have nothing against mengfei's guide I personally found the one in my sig to be the clearest to follow. It's essentially an updated version of the one you linked in the OP. You only have to follow the steps from flashing CWM onwards as you'll need to change the partition size but everything else should be fine as it is.

[Q] Hello all! Please welcome my brother by helping me :-D

Hey all!
As you can see in my signature, i'm a HD2 user and i'm currently porting android, it's now been 3 months since i last used winmo!!!
To cut down to the important; my brother recently bought HTC Magic!
Since i like modding a lot, and since i have felt the beauty of android 2.2 (Froyo) on my HD2, knowing that Magic is android 1.5 by default, i want to port the latest ROM/android to his cell phone!
It's a PVT32A i guess (its written on the box 288MB RAM)
Is there is any froyo ROM for magic now?!
Or eclair?!
Stock or custom?!
I prefer stock roms if possible with froyo or eclair!
If not, what is the latest/fastest/best ROM for magic right now?! Please point me to it!
In htc site i found this http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=267&cat=2&dl_id=862;
did anyone tried it?! Is that android 1.5 or more?!
Please help me guys!
I know i should be reading but HD2 has got many bugs still in android to keep me completely busy in reading there besides that my brother doesn't like to read.
Thanks
Simple.... follow my guide to root and get custom recovery...(check my signature)... then apply stock magic 2.1 with sense found in development section... or the stock 2.2 without sense also found in development!
Good luck!

Excuse me mumilover but i have many concerns, if you or anyone can help me:
1-i've read that there is a "check for system update" in the settings/about phone but i don't have it!!! that is weird!!! I was thinking of updating the system first to see where that leads me!
2-in your root guide you use adb installing method; well i have never used it yet, is it that simple by only opening a command prompt in windows and writing "adb install C:\roottools\App\UniversalAndroot_1.6.1.apk" for example i can install this app if this is its location on pc?!?
Excuse my ignorance, but does this work simply by connecting the cell to the pc va usb (with debugging mode on) or it does need anything extra to make it work?!?
3-the biggest difficulty is that, by default, there are no file manager included and no market application!!!! which means one can not install any app!!! No way to download it and no way to install it if one can't access the SDcard!!!
Is that why we need adb?!?
4-How can i know my radio version and Hboot?! (in winmo it used to be displayed on booting)
5-Do you mean by "and get custom recovery" that i should do also steps 6, 7 and 8?! or only 7?! or maybe 7 and 8?! (coz 6 seems a bit freaky "Using this spl will cut your ram in half and make the 3.5mm jack useless!"... )
Thanks a lot
I can only say, that you have to read the guide 1-3 times more...
Many of your questions is answered there...
It very simple to follow, and i have written all the steps need.
Just do it and revert back if you get any problems.
Please, if you get problems, then write them in the guide thread and not here... to make things organized :0)

learn to read and search please. go to the thread called wildpuzzle.
Thank sir, I just gone through those steps and feel complicated for me.
Not so confidence how to do it.
However, thank for quick reply and support since the breakdown question.
Cheers!
If you need a step by step guide as to how to install WildPuzzle (Or any Custom ROM for that matter), you can refer this very detailed guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824396
If, after reading that, you still cant do it, I guess you are better off sticking to the stock ROM and HTC Supplied updates.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the tips, I'll do more googling before I start to do so. Too early to say better off my friend, cos just start up, will learn and will try to do.
Cheers,
I just read your first post, and, if you have updated to official 2.2.1, there's nothing you can do anymore, because, you can't root your phone anymore till Unrevoked is updated.
Hard Luck
Oh...anyways, thanks for your information. I stick around the forum, to see what more can I do.
You all got my respect!

HTC HD2 - Changing to Android. Pls Help

Hi,
I have just purchased a new HTC HD2 on T-Mobile (U.K.) and I am loving it !
I am a total novice and wish to change from Windows 6.5 to the better latest Android OS.
Can anyone please tell me how to do this? I have no idea what I am doing and do not want to do something which may jeopardise the phone (I do know that it does affect the warranty) The only thing I know about 'Flash' it flashing my mobile in public.
I would really like if someone can give me Step by Step instructions via a video so I can see what I am doing.
Any feedback would be really appreciated.
Many thanks

Don't rush anything. Make sure you have a good idea about what you're doing and what you can do if things go wrong. If you're unsure about anything just use the search feature first and if you're still iffy about something, ask a question.

Can I use these sites as reference? And if, for anyone reason I wanted to turn back to Windows 6.5, how would I do that?

I think you are making this harder than it needs to be. Just follow the instructions given to you in your previously started thread about the same thing. The link to MSkip gives you detailed instructions on how to install Android on your HD2 and how to revert back to WM6.5 if you so desire.

Thanks for the reply. What is the latest version of Android for HTC HD2? The link you gave me, is that the latest version?
Google is your friend. Haven't used it in a while. If you are that unsure of flashing Android to your HD2 just buy an Android powered phone. Sorry to be so brash but just follow the instructions.

I'll try to explain a bit. First off you've got to install the things that let you install Android in the first place (HSPL, MAGLDR, CWM etc) and after that you install a ROM. A ROM is the thing that will decide what version of Android you phone will have. If you don't like the ROM you have, or if you just want the newest version of Android, all you have to do is change it. You don't have to re-install everything again, just your ROM.
You might have to change your CWM partition size when you choose a new ROM, but the chef (person who made the ROM) will let you know what size you need in the thread. This is also easy and doesn't require you to re-install everything. Don't worry if you don't know what a CWM partition is because it'll make sense eventually.

Numpty guide to Upgrading

Hi, I am not a technical dude but I want to find a numpty's guide on upgrading my HTC HD2 Windows 6.5 to Android. Its on Virgin at the moment and about 2 years old.
I have looked over xda and everything seems so complicated. I fouind some files last week and followed the instructions and almost screwed my phone cos I wasn't sure if there were steps missing, etc
Therefore can anyone just provide the files I need in one single post with a real beginner's guide (step-by-step) on what to do? Pref on the phone itself instead of the SD card.
Alternatively, if there's anyone in the Birmingham area in the UK who'll do it for a fiver let me know.
Thanks

Well, you should try some reading, the guide is very descriptive and it's pointless for me to try and explain it to you without you trying to understand it yourself first Try searching for a user called T-Macgnolia (I think) who has a comprehensive guide to HSPL, CWM, CLK, Radio, MAGLDR etc just look in his signature
Search ' HD2 toolkit ' Its a all in one package for task29 (which is wiping all data from your phone) cLk & magldr ( both of these are boot loaders) and cwm (this is the easiest and most used method for installing an actual rom to your phone, but the two things i mentioned come first) , and its fairly simple. After that just pick a rom in the nand section .

Always try searching the forum before asking a question. You will be surprised how many people ask the same questions.
For the time being, look in the Android Development forum, there are ICS custom ROMs for you to try.

Hi everyone,
I'm having DHD with Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0, i've bought it a year and a half ago, and I never touched it, so it is unrooted and has it's original (stock) room.
Now I'd like to flash a custom rom to it, I've done a lot of research and found out I need to downgrade my device to be able to root it. Now, I've spent hours looking for a proper guide of how to downgrade the device and root it, but found nothing really.
Can you help me? I've almost given it up :S
Thank you very much in advance whoever helps me!

You need to use AAHK (Advanced Ace Hack Kit). You can no longer find it on XDA.
But if you search google for AAHK you will find their support page, and you can download it from there.
Also mae ksure to read the manual (called the effin' manual). Don't skip a word!!
Also, since you are on 2.3.5 you need to downgrade. Instructions are on the effin manual.

I've done this for the first time ever, and all went the way it should! Running ICS wooooo!

The guide was written by glevitan, thus, he deserves the thanks. All I did was point you in the right direction (and proof-reading that guide about 5 times before it was uploaded ).
From that same link check out post #179, currently it should be the last page.
I'm glad it's all sorted out. Happy flashing.

Well, anyway, thanks to both of you then
