Anyone planning to buy their phone on amazon? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm just wondering if anyone has had experience buying a new phone through a carrier on amazon.com (at&t in particular) and how long after release will i most likely have to wait to be able to buy it on amazon instead of directly through at&t to upgrade.
Im curious because i have $200 gift card and would love to use it there

It's pretty simple and smooth. Just like buying @ Best Buy, except online and they ship the phone to you.
Only thing I have to caution you about is, if you might be planning to terminate contract early.
When you buy through Amazon, you are also signing a contract with them.
If you leave early (within 6 months I think), not only will you be charged AT&T ETF, Amazon will also charge you up to $400.
You've gotta be careful with these subsidized deals and read all the fine print.
Other than that caution, Amazon usually offers pretty good deals for phones.
You can take advantage of your gift card. If you didn't have your gift card,
I would probably think Best Buy is better since they don't have their own contract with the phone.

I have Amazon Prime and use Amazon a lot, so it's a tempting service to use to pre-order but it all comes down to price and whether they'll have accessories bundled with it.

any idea when preordering or even ordering will be available for at&T

I bought a droid charge on Amazon. The big thing there I think is that the price drops a lot faster than through the carrier, and it was (for me) the cheapest third party retailer that sold new (unopened) phones. If you wait long enough for the price to drop (up to a couple months would be my best guess) then some days it will randomly go even further down but back to normal price the next day. By buying like this I got my Charge for $140 when they were still $300 through Verizon.

Note coming to amazon wireless?

Just a quick question...
Does anyone know if Amazon wireless will pick the Samsung Note from ATT up? I have about $300 in amazon giftcards and want to use it towards the note from ATT. Just wondering if I should wait to get it or spend the extra couple of hundred bucks to get the unlock one? Currently have Nokia N97 (I know...) with 10 unlimited family data plan. Will ATT force a data plan on the unlocked Note as well?
sighs... turns out not to be a quick question..
also wondering about this . . . can anyone guess for us based on past releases?
They still don't have the AT&T Pantech Burst which I think came out on the 22nd . . . so that's not very reassuring. But then again, no one was exactly eagerly awaiting the Burst. . .
I talked with an AT&T rep and an Amazon rep today who both told me they usually launch phones at the same time but they wouldn't give me any details.

main reason I'm interested in amazon is there's no sales tax . . . in Cali we get charged sales tax on the full retail price of the phone, not the upgrade price. With my local sales tax it's over %10 I'll be paying on top of whatever AT&T makes the off-contract price

BestBuy.com offering no contract S3 $699.99 (Sprint/AT&T)

You can get a no contract Sprint or AT&T S3 from BestBuy.com for $699.99 + tax.
(select phone, check "replace my phone - no contract then check out):

it's $549.99 at ATT off contract, correct. Best Buy usually charges more for off contract phones than the carriers. i know there's a reason for it but i don't remember.

maybe it would be worth it for someone that has saved up lots of BB credit. Also for people that want to take advantage of 18-month 0% interest financing on the BB card.

I'd rather save those credits for a total or laptop I would need in the future. That's 150 more than the carriers! I unless if that includes a extended warranty or something.

Best buy always charges more for off contract phones than carrier off contract price since they want people to only buy contract phones. They only get commission by selling contracts not by selling off contract phones.
OP - not sure if you thought this is a deal, this is the worst possible price you will pay for the carrier phone even off contract.
Edit: I remember buying Nexus S from Best Buy and the sales guy was like looking at me on why the heck I'm spending $550 on an off contract phone. He was trying to push me to buy a contract phone, I laughed off, bought my nexus s and walked off happily
I notice you can only get a no-contract S3 from AT&T in-store. So I'm thinking for impatient/worried people they may order via BB as they can pre-order now to guarantee one on launch day. Like others have mentioned though I feel it won't be hard to get on launch day, but who knows with the whole Int. debacle.

I wasn't able to do it online, when you click the "no committment" option is stated just in-store. There was no way I could add the phone without contract to my cart online, it would always prompt to add a plan/etc.
No-Commitment Pricing
You may purchase a new AT&T phone without a contract at the no-commitment price. This non-discounted equipment purchase option does not require a two-year contract or other long-term service commitment. No-commitment equipment pricing is available to customers that are not on a prepaid or GoPhone® plan. You can purchase a phone at no-commitment prices at AT&T retail stores. For an AT&T retail store near you, visit our store locator.

I was able to add No commitment pricing without any issue. I took it all the way and just had to check out. I have always been able to order online for no contract price, it's only in some stores that they refuse to sell till 90 days have passed for release. Here is the screen shot
NOTE: Login to your account and then click upgrade phone. There you can select no commitment price without adding or modifying any of your plan.
Ugh, had me freakin' out for a second. For $700 I'd just buy an international version. $550 sounds much more reasonable for a no contract bleeding edge device Wait, is that $550 for 16GB or 32?
Dumb question (sorry), but does no contract also mean UNLOCKED?
phone itself is still sim locked to whichever carrier you purchased from.

Did anyone sell their S3 to get the S4? Can anyone recommend where to buy the S4?

Trying to sell my S3 in to Best Buy (they offered me $250) and then buy it outright (they have it listed for $700). BUT on the Sprint website and on Amazon they have it listed for $600. Best Buy told me now apparently they don't do the "price match" for cell phones on contract o I'd hafta pay the $700 which is total BS! I was planning on getting my S4 this week (tomorrow or Saturday) but now I guess I can't! Can anyone recommend where I can get an S4 (not eBay) that also has a buy back program + "price match"? ANYYY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED! Trying to get this phone ASAP, thanks!!
They will give you $262.50. The computers in the store only show good or bad condition not perfect. Tell them you saw on their website the perfect condition trade in value and they will check it. Also they don't print edition match on contract phones with is different than a off contract phone. Tell them you want to buy from them and if you are going to get the Geek Squad protection, which I totally recommend over Sprint and Assurion, tell them you also want that. But you will just order from Amazon if you have to. Also talk to a Samsung rep in the store they will probably talk to the manager and do the price match. This is exactly how I did everything.

What about paying $700 from Best Buy?! Kinda dumb I'd rather sell it on eBay for $300+ (and have them take around $30 for selling fee) and only have to pay $600 through the Sprint website or even Amazon. I just want it tomorrow or sometime before the week ends and I won't be able to do that the way I just said. I'd hafta wait a week or so. Yes I am a very impatient person!

Well the mall (where Best Buy is) is like 30min away from me and I don't want a wasted trip there... so I literally JUST got off the phone with them and the girl didn't seem to know what she was talking about, but as I stated in the OP they said they don't do price match for on contract phones.
Please delete this double post!
Make sure you tell them you are buying it full price off contract, they told me no until I made that clear then they looked a little confused and we're lime oh okay ya we can do that. I made it clear that I shop there often and wanted to buy the phone from Best Buy not Amazon. And I wanted the Geek Squad protection and they said fine no problem then.

You are in the middle of a contract so yes you are paying full price off contract. What you want Best Buy to do is match Amazon's price of $599 for the off contract s4. If you were buying a on contract agreement phone thats when you get the huge discount. Trust me I got the S2 the day it came out and since then the Galaxy Nexus, S3, and now the S4.
---------- Post added at 07:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:59 PM ----------
It doesn't mean your contract ends or anything just that you aren't getting the discount and paying full price, then they will price match Amazon. They get confused to because not many people do this. Thats why I said make it clear you want it full price but with a price match. And throw in the Geek Squad, It's $10 a month with unlimited replacements with no deductible, just don't lose your phone, they don't cover that.
---------- Post added at 07:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:02 PM ----------
Read this and specifically the first part of the second paragraph, it clearly states "on contract" which you are not buying.

OK lemme get this straight, and hopefully when I go to Best Buy tomorrow it's not a wasted trip lol..... So what you want me to do (and what you did to get your S4 from Best Buy and got them to price match it??) is: go to Best Buy tomorrow and tell them that I have an S3 that I want to sell into them, then I say I would like to purchase the S4 off contract and I would like them to price match Amazon/Sprint's price of $600 because I really wanna get it from Best Buy and get their Geek Squad protection. If I got that right.... that should work and I should walk out of Best Buy tomorrow with my new S4 for $599 (plus tax)?!?! Thanks!
PS- Do I hafta do THIS to sell in, or can I sell it in to them rooted with a custom ROM lol?
If they argue ask for a manager and show them there price matching policy which I pulled from there website. It shouldn't come to that but it is their policy. I price match a lot there because I prefer Best Buy over any other stores. In fact I have a interview with there mobile department tomorrow. LOL.

Yes, exactly what I did. I was told the whole we don't price match thing early on when I was thinking about buying the S4 then when I was actually about to buy it I did my research and went to a store with a Samsung rep who knows me fairly well and got the breakdown that they would do all of this once I made it clear about the off contract stuff. Good luck and enjoy your phone, it will all work out and be fine. LOL.

Also make sure they give you the perfect condition price of $262.50 if it is in perfect condition. It shows on their website and I had them check it and they said thats fine. http://www.bestbuytradein.com/bb/fu...es&modelNumber=SPHL710KT&manufacturer=Samsung

Also they don't care what the carrier price is just say Amazon because its a store. Sprint can kind of do what they want sometimes because they are the carrier.
Thanks GiantJay I remember you from the S3 forums and can't wait to join the Sprint S4 community. HOPEFULLY I'll see you guys tomorrow!

[Q] Unsubsidized verizon g2

Looks like I am going to have to buy a phone without signing a contract to keep my current plan. The g2 is currently 599 direct from Verizon. Are there any deals or ways to get it any cheaper?
VERIZON30 worked for me, I didn't get it at full price but it should work for 30% off.

didn't work for me trying to buy at full price earlier in the week
Discount are only on subsidized prices they never let me use discount when I purchase full retail. I have found though if you go into the store typically a verizon rep is trying to sell theirs. They get free upgrades every 3 months and keep their old phones so some upgrade just to sale the phone.

If you are due for an upgrade you can pay 1/12 of the price on day you get the phone than pay monthly payments for the rest for the next 11 months.
Im not sure if you can do this if you re not due for an upgrade. i was told you had to be in your upgrade to get the 12 month payment plan but that may be false.
But you can only do this at one of the cooperate Verizon stores not any of the outlets like diamond or anything.
Hit me up with a PM. I have brand new one.

S6 Edge UK Buyers: Pre-order, Price and Availability Status

So I'll get this kicked off.
The Carphone Warehouse have now launched their pre-order for both new contracts and tariffs. The 128GB model is.....expensive. I'm looking to upgrade and I'm with EE but the contracts through CPW at least are astronomical and I'm not willing to part with so much money for the handset as well as a monthly amount. £229 up front then £46.99 is pretty expensive over two years. It does come with a wireless charger though.
Let's use this thread to share good deals and finds for the S6 edge. as well as availability nearer official launch date.

£229 upfront is beyond the joke, best to wait and let the silly prices come down. If Sammy had any marketing sense... the wireless charger should have been included in th box.
These early prices are interesting as I'm waiting for the Note 5,God knows that will be priced out of my league....
Looks like the green is not being sold anywhere at the moment. I imagine it will be in short supply and high demand. I', waiting to see when it will be up for pre order on the Samsung website. Anyone seen any sim free deals yet?

I've been looking at the 32gb model, as I don't really need the extra storage. There's some fairly reasonable deals HERE.
I'm thinking about going for the £33.49pm tariff on EE - 4GB data (double speed 4G), unlimited calls and texts. Up front price is £103.99, which is quite high, but I think overall it's a fair deal. I'm gonna wait until I've seen the phone in-store on Sunday before I commit though.

I've been looking at the 32gb model, as I don't really need the extra storage. There's some fairly reasonable deals HERE.

I think I am going to preorder the 64GB model, probably on EE. I am leaning towards 20GB data because it works out only an extra £3/month over the 4GB, and I wouldnt have to pay as much upfront.
I am concerned that none of the major carriers, or carphone warehouse, or Samsung direct are listing a 32GB Edge. Only a few online retailers like the one you linked to are listing it - and it looks like all those sites are part of the same group. I am not convinced if you preorder a 32GB you will get one, at least not on launch day.

Just realised I was looking at the S6, not the edge! What a tool.
Tempted with Vodafone as Quidc are doing £110 cashback on tariffs £43.50 and over - gets you the 128gb for free nearly.

I am glad you posted this - I had completely forgotten to check for cashback! Topcashback are offering £97.65 on EE contracts over £45.99, which I think has settled this for me.
Does anybody know when they will have the devices in-store? I'd really like to try the difference in person between the S6 and S6 Edge before committing to anything.
Just ordered the Samsung S6 Edge 128GB in Gold for £119 from Vodafone on a £43.50 tarrif 3G, but with £110 Quidco, meaning the phone will cost £9.
Plus with 20% employee discount it works out ~£35.
Says on back order delivery is 5-7 weeks.
Enough time to shift my S5.

If you are in London the Experience stores already have them - assume all other with get them on the 10th April
Been talking to Carphone on their live chat feature and have managed to get the following quotes on an upgrade through EE for the SGS6E. All deals include the free Samsung wireless charging dock and offer 4G Xtra. EE aren't offering a free wireless dock, rather a subsidised version.
32GB
Based on what you have told me, we have a fantastic package for you. This includes unlimited Minutes which covers your current usage. You will receive unlimited Texts and 4GB data, as you use a lot. This is on a 24 month contract with an upfront cost of £99 and a monthly of £38.49 on EE.

I then asked the livechat host if there was anyway to bring the price of the upfront cost of the handset down through trading in old handsets or whatever to which she said:
XXXX: If we were to apply a promotion to the upfront cost, would you go ahead with the deal now?
XAVIER2K3: In all honesty, Sarah it really depends on the promotion really
XXXX: I will remove £100 off the £199 upfront cost if you go ahead with this deal.

This was in reference to the 64GB version, not the 128 as she couldn't apply the same discount there.
They're all pretty good mark downs though off the "standard" upgrade prices offered by the CPW.
I think people are getting confused. As far as I know, there is no 32GB Edge. Those prices above are for the standard S6.

There is 32gb, 64gb, and 128gb Edge here in Denmark so if there isn't then that's only the UK

Wow. I stand corrected... I wonder why there's no trace of the Edge 32GB in the UK...

After reading about this I decided the deal was too good not to try for, but my luck on live chat wasn't as good as yours. On the £33.49pm tariff, the website lists the upfront cost as £329.99. When I told them I had heard about this deal "my friend" had been offered, the response was as follows:
This is a new handset which was launched yesterday and as far as I know there are no discount offered on any tariff.
So the person gave you wrong information.
He was told no discount could be given on the 128gb handset, but the discount could be applied to the 64gb
You were misinformed.
Think about it logically.
The phone is still on pre order and you are wanting a discount.

He told me the only deal he could offer me would be the same as on the website. £330 upfront is a joke, so it looks like I'll have to keep hunting! I'm looking to spend £40pm and £100 upfront tops if at all possible.
CPW are definitely offering the edge at the 32gb option. Just check their site.
Do remember though that I am upgrading though rather than a brand new pay monthly deal. The live chat rep Said that it was a promotional offer And that I can ask for her directly to get this deal as she will get the sale for it That way.

I can't see the 32GB option. I don't think Samsung are making this model available in the UK for the launch.
It is possible some shops have a small stock or are planning to import it.
