I have rooted my SGY S5360 and am using the CWM skin thingy(every time u gotta flash it to use cwm-temporary cwm). before flashing a new rom i wish to clarify a few things:
1) can i make a cwm backup of stock rom? if so, how?
2)SGY in different regions of the world have different csc(i think that what it called- like DXKKQ(that was made up, but u know what i mean)
so do i need to worry about this before flashing a rom?
3)do i need to flash kernels after roms for overclocking and stuff?
4)i know best rom threads arent allowed but what im asking for is the name of a good stable rom to start with.
5)what is the whole issue with hyperion 8? can i download it?
i know its a lot but pls bear with me...
thanks!

1)in cwm...go to backup and restore..and choose backup
2)no need to worry about that as long as ur device supported by that custom rom
3)yes..for overclocking u can use merruk kernel but it still unstable
4)i suggest u use hyperion 8 or remix or creed or evo
5)not sure about that
yes....he's right
i suggest u don't overclocking you're cpu..

plz dont use merruk.kernel... bcoz it has a lot of bugs & highly unstable. also overclocking didnt give me any increased perfomance...

hi
1. read carefully on how to use Odin
2. it is always advisable to do a factory/Data wipe and wipe delvi cache and then flash the ROM via odin and if u want to go back to the stock rom dont worry just look in the rollup thread and u will see some links with stock rom with out boot loader for u to flash
good luck and be care full read carefully before attempting to flash
Like it has been said before, it´s ok.
Just remember to follow the guide and you´ll be just fine.
I recommend to flash the Kyrillos Rom 9.2 with G3Mod 2.2.2 noc oc.
Hit thanks if it helped you anyway.
Best of luck
Thanks alot harree.
Also what about the Overclock thingy? and one more question i read in one of the threads that a bettery stats wipe should be done after installing the rom. Well i searched around and i couldn't find a thread on how to do that. I would appreciate if someone can help with that.
@iam_dragonmaster, how can i install the g3mod 2.2.2 non oc (i figure this is a kernal? how can i install a kernal when installing the rom?) with kyrillos rom? besides i can only install kyrillos 9.0 i think then have to use the update.zip thingy to update.

Boot into recovery using the extended boot menu and apply the update for kyrillos 9.2 by selecting zip from SD card and of course you need to put the update in your SD card. You can download g3mod kernel and flash it via Odin one package and it does not wipe your data . Also you can download the battery calibration app from the market and install it and follow the instructions. For me i use Zeppelinroxs die hard battery calibrator script. Can be found with the beta/test releases of v6 supercharger.

I've read a lot how to upgrade to the official 2.3.5 Gingerbread and i did it....after that i successfuly rooted the phone and finaly i'm wondering do i NEED to install ClockworkMod Recovery and what is the purpouse of this. Do i need to change the stock 2.3.5 with a custom ROM?Can anyone to tell me what the differences are? And finaly recomandations for some other from the stock one theme? Thanks

1. You need to install CWM recovery only if you flash custom roms.
2. You dont need, if your happy with stock.
3. Differences are unique for roms. You can read them from rom threads usually.
4. Cant help you with theme
Stock roms are good but custom roms are way better than the stock.
Recently i change my stock rom with cyanogen and i see that the phone i faster than ever.
With custom rom you see the real power of the phone.
thank you julle131....and -TRANE-....i'll thing about changing the stock rom with the custom ones...thanks anyway
I recommend you installing CWM, you see, there are some really fancy stuff in UOT kitchen like more informative battery indicators and other goodness, and to install it you need custom recovery image.
What about custom ROMs, I've only tried CM7, but sadly sound of the back speaker is bad. Try it yourself, if you can cope with it then CM7, or maybe MIUI is the way to go, since custom ROMs almost always are better than stock no matter how good the last one is.
Hi to all, i need a little help with the installation of this kernel. I'm trying to install it in ussr v3 and v4 and always get bootloop. I read that is necessary to uninstall a2sd but i don't know if those ROMs have it (both have Repencis kernel) and i don't know how to uninstall it. I checked init.d folder and i dont see any files with "a2sd" and i dont have my sd-card partitioned or anythig so i dont know what to do, please help. Thanks in advance guys.
pd: Sorry for bad english.
I to had the same problem but i was able to install the kuro kernel but i was using ICS fusion v2.0 rom
unroot ur phone
do a data wipe/cache
before installing kuro kernell
After installing Kuro kernel u may root ur phone again.
And remember always to flash it via CWM & not the stock recovery
u can use the faqbly method to flash the kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552889
what? unroot? I don't know why did my kernel got a problem with root stuff. try this one. usr have bacem tweak inside it, you'd better remove it or change the value to -20mV before you install my kernel.
i install this kernel with Repencis v3.5 and i didnt get bootloop maybe the a2sd thing is the one thats get you a bootloop cause i use link2sd..because of that i didnt got any problem
btw this kernel is COOL really fast and battery saver
Hi noob question here

I have flashed back stock xxla2 and IMEI number has returned so no damage done
I did'nt note down the kies update number my bad.

please refrain from saying one thing is better than something else as this is normally not true in the scientific sense or just personal opinion

"best" or "better" is personal choice.
Also Savie's kernel is banned.
(I know it was one of good kernels, but he could not upload sources.)

Well, i am using the Official Samsung Rom, but i dont like the default lockscreens, so i want to know if there is a way to install lockscreens that are not apps like WidgetLocker, Lockbot pro, etc...
I have been searching how to do this and i only found this:
www(dot)galaxy4gaming(dot)in/2012/12/lockscreen-mods-for-all-custom-rom.html
However it didnt work for me, since it got stuck at the GalaxyY screen, but that is how i want to install it, from CWM; so how can i do that without changing my ROM?
Sorry for the bad english...
I didnt check the link bt by judging from the written link..
U must install a custom rom..
Maybe deodexed rom can work too..
I mean deodexed-stock rom..
Install that nd then flash
** rooting is new for me,
nd i am a noob to root....**
Is there any other way? Cus that is exactly what i dont want to do, since i am using TUN.ko and DroidVPN, but it seems they only work correctly with the Official Samsung Rom, i tried with Hyperion and didnt work, so is it possible?
I dont knw nothing abt tun.ko or droid vpn...
I only knw is..
It requires a custom deodexed rom.
Now u want it...better flash that rom
** rooting is new for me,
nd i am a noob to root....**
Yes u must deodex your rom tun ko and droid vpn must work same as stock rom

Hi, just a quick question
Kernels come WITH the Rom? right?
...like if I flash a custom rom...no need to worry about the Kernel?
do I need a specific Kernel for a specific rom to run properly?
I've been flashing roms since ages but still dont know a thing about Kernels
thanks

Yes, kernels come with the ROM. If a ROM doesn't have a kernel, it won't boot (hence the name "kernel").
Usually, the most "proper" kernel for your ROM would be the one that came with it. Although sometimes, flashing a different kernel can improve performance/responsiveness/battery ..etc .... But it can also break things if you don't know what you're doing. It's always a good idea to make a backup before doing something.
Have fun.
