[Q] micro SD compatibility issues - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

My old microSD is broken in a few places, it works, but it might be causing slowdowns and glitchy behavior. This card is Sandisk class 2, now i have two Transend cards 8G and 16G class 10 and Team 8G class 6, none of these 3 are recognized by the phone. I umount my current card though the settings menu, and when i insert a new card the phone gives no indication that it has noticed it. I plug the old card back in, notices and mounts as usual.
Any one else having similar problems? Is the phone not compatible with Transend (Team)? Is it a problem with class? Is the card reader broken in my phone? (can't be if it reads the old card)
update: i tested two more cards 4G class 4 Transend and 4G class 4 Verbatim. Transend is once again ignored, Verbatim mounted just fine. There must be some difference between Transend and Sandisk/Verbatim...

Serious problem with P6500 SD card driver

Hi, everyone -- I'm having an intermittent but chronic problem with the SD card driver on my P6500: occasionally, the P6500 will freeze up while writing to an SD card; sometimes file or directory names on the card show up scrambled in File Manager; I've had instances of files on SD cards being corrupted; and Card Export sometimes freezes because calls to the SD card read/write functions hang.
These issues happen with every SDHC card I've tried, regardless of capacity or manufacturer: an 8GB AData card, a 16GB Patriot card, and a 32GB Panasonic card. _All_ of these cards work fine in other Windows Mobile 6 devices and in card readers. (I haven't tried any standard, lower capacity, SD cards.)
Has anyone else experienced these issues? I'm not sure if this is a problem with my specific phone or if it's a more general issue with the P6500 card driver. And HTC Technical support has been frustratingly useless -- I've sent numerous emails and each response suggests another irrelevant fix or suggests that the problem is with my cards or software I'm using. (The most ridiculous email told me that I needed to use a microSD card!)
Alan
Sedna does NOT support large cards!
The problems reported above seem to only happen with large-capacity cards. I've been trying a 2GB card without problems. And HTC Support confirms that the P6500 has only been tested with cards of up to 4 GB capacity -- which seems ludicrous given that the P6500 is advertised as supporting SDHC! -- so I'm guessing that this is the issue: their drivers have intermittent problems when dealing with higher capacity cards.
The problems aren't consistent: even 32GB cards USUALLY work OK, although Card Export II has to be set to Hermes mode (which slows things down significantly!) in order to work correctly.
Any suggestions? I'll complain to HTC -- it seems like false advertising to promote that the card supports SDHC when it doesn't fully supported cards with capacities greater than 4 GB.
Thanks, Alan
HTC 6500 - finger print reader broken.
I have a Sedna, dropped it, split the ribbon cable that goes to the finger print reader. Have two weeks of data that I need. Does anyone know where I can get a new finger print reader with ribbon cable.
OR does anyone know how to bypass the fingerprint authentication screen, because it seems to be locked in a loop saying scan finger followed by finger scan failed try again, every half a second.
Help please.
Using 8GB & not had a single problem
I've had 8GB (SanDisk Ultra II 8GB SDHC) in the top slot of mine since I bought it & not had a single problem.
I even have an old Kingston 2GB d/v MMC mobile mini-SD + adapter (bought iirc for a Nokia thats long since died) in the side slot & that works like a charm too.
2x 16 GB Kingston No problems
Have had the P6500 for two weeks now using 2-16 GB Kingston SDHCs. Documents and data files on one, video, photos & mp3s on the other. Has worked flawlessly thus far (before buying this I had read the post by Carrot34 and had some lingering concerns but everything's been fine). Planning to upgrade to 32 GB SDHCs when the price drops a bit.

Microcenter Micro SD Cards

So I recently bought an 8GB Class 6 MicroSD card from Microcenter (One of the generic Microcenter ones) and when I plug it into my Vista x64 machine and try to navigate to it, explorer.exe hangs and freezes until I unplug it. Ubuntu recognizes it, but it will not show up in GPartEd, mind you this is with two card readers on different computers. The phone recognizes it but won't save anything to it.
And on top of that I had my dad exchange the card out for another one because it is closer to where he works (Microcenter is about 20 minutes away), and they both do the same thing, has anyone experienced this also?
Are you using an SDHC card reader? Those cards are SDHC. Make sure your card reader has SDHC letters on it.
SDHC is not the same as a SD card. Older card readers will hang the OS.
I went to a MicroCenter and asked about the $50 (or so) card and they told me that it was actually just a class 2 so I refused to buy it. Instead I got a NAME BRAND (AData) from Newegg for the same price and I love it! I don't have any issues.
But it sounds like you need a new or different SDHC adapter.
Edit: Have you tried just using the phone as the adapter by mounting it?
If you can access the card that way then my guess is that it's not the card.

I can confirm this. I have a 4 GB SDHC card that will not work in my current reader. I got a smaller regular non-high-density card to recover with. Either get a small card (2 GB) or upgrade your reader.
I did find out that I needed an SDHC reader. I just bought one and it works great.

Confirmed working SD Cards

Does your SD card work perfectly with Windows Phone 7?
If so, which capacity, brand, model and where did you buy it?
If not, what problem did you run in to, and which capacity, brand, model and where did you buy it?
NOT WORKING
Play.com 32gb SDHC (Unbranded / White label) here.
It seems to be incompatible with MAGLDR - it does not function in Mass Storage mode or in the SD boot mode.
When booting WP7, the phone just reboots after the Dark Forces logo is shown.

doesnt even work with magldr?? try formatting it on pc using panasonic sd formatter..
when it starts working on mass storage mode then perform the test on whether it will work on wp7 or not
----------------------------------
and to OP, transcend 2gb has issues for me.. sometimes wifi doesnt work.. sometimes it does but then wp7 gets really laggy and sooner or later just turns off (sometimes even hardresets)
multiple hardreset retries and it always ends up with the above issues.
Got mine with my HD2 TMobile usa, Scandisk 16 GB HC , WORKS EXCELLENT
Kingston 16gb, class 4 works fine. No problems... At least, not yet...
kingston sdhc 8gb class(4) - capacity avaible but phone have lags. reflashing wp7 nothing change
kingston sd 1gb - work fine
Kingston 8 Gb SDHC (Class 6) - Works great.
SanDisk 2 Gb - Works Ok.
Kingston 4 Gb SDHC (Class 6) - Works but is laggy when installing and running apps

I've tried that. It seems that there is an issue with MAGLDR - android, windows (PC) both see the card and read from it fine.
Perhaps MAGLDR doesn't like 32gb cards?
let me tell you..
I formatted my sd card in a thousand ways with all sorts of programs
NOTHING WORKED
you must have your SD card inside the phone when installing WP7,
then WP7 customises it and you are on.
Really strange though, I can sync in Zune but I can't view my SD card when I get it out of the phone.
Sd not working
I have the replacement SD from Samsung Class 2 16GB
It works with WM and Android, but not WP7
Honestly, I cant even find the location where I see the SD in WP7.
I keep getting the "Out of Space" message and I have to reboot to even get text.
Any ideas for some of this?
[UPDATE]
Fixed after reformatting the SD using my Camera, Then putting in the phone, and Re-flashing WP7
If your SD card was inserted when you first installed WM, then it's simply incompatible.
On the first boot, WM will format the card and initialise it for use. If it's not compatible, no go.
sandisk ultra 16GB (class 4), working fine
Sandisk 32GB class 2, working perfectly on phone
Sandisk 2GB class 2 did not work
Sandisk 1GB class 2 did not work either....

Sandisk Class 2 8gb
Sandisk Class 2 16gb
tested myself on 2 diff hd2(7)
hope it helps some one!
There is no pattern here.
Opening up this 2nd thread about SD cards is pointless and serves to do nothing but confuse, as it has been shown that two people with exactly the same cards can get very different results.
Suggest people just buy through trial and error/returning incompatible cards while waiting for some WP7 certified cards to come on the market. The fact that they havnt yet says alot.
Not working:
Transcend 8GB SDHC Class 6

[Q] SD Card Compatibility

Does anyone have an idea of what SD cards are compatible with the A500 yet?
I have a Sandisk 8GB Class 2 SDHC card that worked fine in my nookColor, but won't work in the A500. I have another Sandisk, but it's a 2GB and not class rated (at least not on the card) and it seems to work fine, though I haven't done any extensive testing.
The symptoms I'm having are that if I have files on the SD card, the A500 can see them, but it can't write anything to the card.
Also on the topic of SD Cards, is there a way to format a card in the A500 yet? Neither of the cards I have tried give me the option to unmount or format when I look into the storage area of the Settings menus.

From what I can see there's no way to format the SD inside Honeycomb, yet.
Been looking it up but haven't found any references.
I have no solution for you, just a recommendation that I hope will solve your problem.
Recommendation:
Copy the content of you microSD to your PC.
Format the card in FAT32 on your PC (is it able to do it?)
Copy the files back to the MicroSD.
Try it in the Acer again.
I have quite a few cards myself and they all work in the A500.
Hope this helps.
I gave that a shot before coming here to find out why it wasn't working. Unfortunately, I still can't get the system to write to the card. It will read it if I have content on it to begin with, but that's it.
My 2GB SD Card seems to be working fine, same brand, just not rated with a class as it is likely a class 1 from before ratings started.

I have a 8gb SunDisk micro sd class 4 but my A500 would not recognize it, the card works fine on my phone and on my laptop.
I tryied with a 8gb Transcend and everything is ok.
I had to restart the tablet with sdcard in to recognize it afterwards. Now seems to work ok.

Verbatim 16Gb Class 10 failure.

I know that there have been issues with SamDisk cards failing in the S4 but has anyone had any issues with Verbatim cards?
I've had my phone for 2 months now and had a corruption 3 weeks ago.
I managed to recover all files and reformatted the card with no issues.
Today I got a message saying something about SD Card Removed, Please Unmount.
Took the card out and stuck it in my card reader but the PC doesn't even recognise it now.
Has anyone experienced similar and have any advice other than use Samsung disks?
I have a sandisk 16gb microsdhc ultra. This is 16 GB and class 10 (uhs-i?). It works flawless
Me Gusta!
I only buy Samsung flash memory now, after i had couple of dead microSDHC , so far no problems.
John.
