Is there a best/easy solution to control an N4 without the use of the screen? My digitizer is cracked and I want to either control it using a mouse, pc, mac, other android phone. I know there are apps out there that will do this, but the setup is a bit difficult since right now I don't know how I can really control the phone without the screen. The end goal would be to hook up the n4 to a tv or speakers and use it as a dedicated streaming device.
Also, I'm rooted and willing to dive into adb if that's the answer. Thanks for the help.

Why don't you get RMA? I think it maybe impossible unless you sideload an app.
Flash ziddey's otg patch. Connect powered usb hub and enjoy.

Because tv has hdmi input and laptop has hdmi output. You are trying to output hdmi from your phone which should go into the input. Since your laptop is not an input you cannot and will not see anything.

Is there any adapters that are made to lets say Hdmi to usb? I've seen one for hdmi to svideo. But most laptops don't have that either.

Are you just trying to use the laptop screen as a TV for the phone?
Yeah. Pointless I know I mean its a laptop. But my computer has hdmi inputs. Well the monitor does.

If your monitor has hdmi input then just plug in the hdmi cable into it.

@zeealot, you cant connect your phone to any laptop via hdmi... the hdmi port on your phone is for output so as the hdmi port on most laptops so therefore you cant connect output-to-output
if you want to display/output your phone on a bigger screen, you can only connect to a tv or an external monitor that has hdmi input port... also, rooting your phone doesnt have anything to do with it... I hope I explained that clearly to you

You could try using a HDMI capture device like this one:
http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/
but it is probably expensive.
$200 its professional grade used for way more then what your wanting it for. You can actually hook up your xbox or ps3 to your laptop with this and record the game play as your playing it.

Why don't you just buy the laptop and be done with it? You obviously have no clue about how HDMI works, and I wouldn't trust you trying to perform mods to your phone because I know you'll end up here whinging you bricked your phone.
Sigh.

you CAN NOT connect it to a laptop BUT if you're referring to an external display with hdmi input (monitor/tv) you can still use webtop without a dock... just search the forum for hdmi mirroring
Is there any way to make the HDMI output of the laptop to HDMI input ?like by using a converter ?
No. It's not possible. Period.
Use your TV, or get the lap dock, there is physically no way to make your laptop show the webtop off of your phone without an extra tuner card (hdmi are expensive, and not worth it).
Btw, google is your friend.

I think yhe2x had made it very clear already! Buy a new LapTop with HDMI "IN" port.
Even though I think dingdong a laptop with any form of input would be nearly impossible. Laptops just aren't something people expect, or use, as a secondary display.
Plain and simple... There is no way to connect your phone to the laptop and use webtop mode. TV, yes. HDMI computer monitor, yes. Laptop, no.

I wanted to know if the Nexus 10 can be used as a PRIMARY laptop screen?
A wired connection would be preferred, with a bluetooth connection being an alternative.
I cracked the screen on my Lenovo E420 laptop and I wanted to buy a Nexus10 and use it as a replacement for my primary laptop LCD.
Thank you.

Thanks for posting, Rally.
Unfortunately, the solution you provided requires a Wi-Fi network connection.
I need a wired solution preferably, or bluetooth solution at worst, because I will not always have WiFi access.
From the site you provided:
http://www.celiocorp.com/screenslider_faq
Q: I've installed the PC and Android apps but the two devices can't see each other in the "Find Devices" (PC) or "Connect To" (Android) menus.
A: Make sure that you enable Wi-Fi on your Android device and that the ScreenSlider for Android app is running on your device with the screen turned on,
Q: I've installed the PC and Android apps but the two devices, enabled Wi-Fi on my Android device, but the two devices can't see each other to start a connection.
A: In order for ScreenSlider to function properly both your PC and Android device need to be on the same Local Area Network (LAN and subnet). Your PC can be connected to the network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet but must stay on the same LAN and subnet. This should not be a problem for home use (and for some small businesses too) especially if you only have one wired/wireless router in the home or office connected to your incoming Internet connection (Cable modem, DLS modem, etc.). If your PC and Android device can not see each other on a complicated home network or in an office environment, please ask your IT administrator to see if both devices are on the same LAN and subnet.
But Why??
Why would you use the nexus 10 as a replacement screen when you could just simply well.... buy a replacement screen? Unless your intention is to use the nexus as it is intended as well but..... i don'y know i just find it odd to use a 350 dollar tablet as a replacement LCD.

You answered your own question.
If I have to buy a new "screen", I might as well get one that can serve 2 purposes:
1. A stand alone Android tablet
2. A replacement LCD for my laptop.
As nice and geeky as it sounds, it's never going to be practical. At best you could remote desktop into the laptop from the tablet, otherwise, not worth the effort, just get a new screen, or bin the laptop if you can live with just a tablet.
Maybe check out iDisplay?

Unfortunately, it requires all devices be connected to WiFi.
I'm looking for a wired or bluetooth connection.

No problem,
Well, the device isn't designed to accept video on its usb port, and it probably lacks the bandwidth unless it supports some reverse MHL implementation.
As for Bluetooth, I'm pretty sure all Bluetooth versions lack the bandwidth by some margin to display decent quality video at a decent rate.
Unfortunately just the nature of these things, it wasn't designed for it, so it'll never do a very good job of it.... Remote desktop on the other hand over Wifi will probably work quite nicely.

Ok need a little help with a nexus 4 with a broken digitizer.
Everything looks like it works but no touch.
Cost 150+ euro to fix, not going to happen buying a nexus 5.
But would love to use the nexus 4 as a media player with xbmc.
I just need to get a mouse working and then I am good.
BUT HOW?
how do I get a mouse running on this thing I have a OTG cable, I have plugged in a power usb hub.
But I get nothing.
Any help please
King Regards,
JP
There's no way to set it up without a working touchscreen. Your best bet is getting a friend with a Nexus 4 to let you borrow their N4. You replace the board and setup everything using the touchscreen to automatically connect to a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and then put the mobo back in the bad nexus 4 and there you go.
Or you interested in selling it?
Also, for OTG you need to flash Franco Kernel and use it's companion app (nonfree) to enable it. Not sure of any other way to do it. That also requires a touchscreen.
I think maybe your best bet is somehow installing a VNC server for android. Maybe via ADB install? *shrug* You can flash recovery and that will remain fully usable without touch.
that kinda sucks.
what you offering for my nexus?

If you still have a problem/your nexus 4:
if you aren't rooted, find out how to root [nexus root toolkit], if you have fastboot already it should be a breeze
You need a usb-otg Y cable so that power goes to the phone
install franco kernel and ziddey mod (search forums should come up quick cuz they are awesome)
then should work like a charm (plug and play)
My nexus 4 runs a mouse and 1tb hdd off an externally powered hub, but I could never get it to run with my normal otg cable only the Y cable... I think it's because nexus needs the power surge to know it is connected or something (more complicated that I don't understand).
Hello!
I have a broken Nexus 4 and I want to show its screen on my computer and interact with it.
It is possible?
If so, how?
You can use AirDroid mirroring for that, but you'd have to find a way to install and configure the app on the phone. I did it on my broken OnePlus One by using a mouse connected to the phone via bluetooth. Your phone also needs to be rooted for mirroring to work.

Actually, I Can use the most of the screen, it will be possible.
Thanks!
Is there any software that would allow me to access the phone in a teamviewer-like interface? Allowing me to use all the features of the phone on my computer?
If you had adb installed and running before there are a couple of things that will allow that. If not use a USB mouse and an otg dongle. I sued the mouse method on my wife's phone when she cracked the screen and killed the digitizer. It allowed me to link it to another device via Bluetooth and shove all my info to it. You could also move info to google drive or Dropbox using the mouse. It's pretty cool, you plug in the mouse and then you have a pointer on your phone screen.

I'll go pick up an OTG dongle tomorrow and try that out. Can I install ADB on the phone through my computer?
The problem with that is you need to have the computer hooked up to the phone in order for you to verify security stuff with the adb interface. You can't have both the mouse and the computer hooked up at the same time. You might be able to use the otg dongle and use it to setup a Bluetooth pointing device (mouse, etc.) then USB the computer. Not sure, I just needed pics and other stuff off my wife's phone and otg and a Bluetooth link was easiest.
