[Q] Lag - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I am having problems with lag on my Nexus 7. Aside from the usual lag which seems to be everywhere even though this is my third unit. You Tube lately seems worse than ever. A few seconds into a video and the audio starts stuttering soon to be followed by video stuttering. I only have this problem with You Tube. I have the most current release of Paranoid Android on it along with the most current Gapps. Would reinstalling Gapps help? Should I reinstall Paranoid? Would there be a better rom to use for the Nexus 7? Or is this problem something other than a rom issue?
Thanks

I've never had issues with PA and M-Kernel.
You could try M-Kernel (think he's on a52 now) which is the one I have installed.
Try that combo and see how you get on !!

This is a known issue with Franco's latest hotplugging drivers, if you are on that kernel.

I have been having trouble with my nexus 7 running PA as well. If I leave my device locked for a while then go to unlock it with the pattern it will freeze. I'm not sure why it is doing this so much. It never used to on the previous builds..

Latest Franco and PA both have some issues atm. Read the threads lol

hey,
i had similar issues to you on my nexus as well. i was using stock 4.2.2. Eventually, i factory resetted the device and also did a delvik cache wipe from the recovery menu and now there is no lag at all (except when the play store is installing apps, then it would stutter). Though, i do get the audio stutter issues once in a while when multitasking or scrolling through a big PDF too quickly.
good luck

I never understood why some people had those problems after the update and others had none. I wasn't one of the lucky ones either. Try the Revolution HD ROM. It's cleaned up stock so it looks the same but runs faster and has none of those problems. Everything just works.

Good question. The number of people having problems is quite small percentage wise though. I just picked up a pair of TF's from a guy on Craigslist for $200. After restoring them back to 100% stock, they've been up and running for a week now for testing, without issue. I'm about to flip them on eBay. I still use my TF everyday too, but not as much as I used to. My N7 gets used more now.

I had the sound bug and Google Maps crashing on me when I first did the update - and tried all the different solutions posted in the forum to no avail.
I know it's not what you want to hear - but a factory reset sorted all the problems out for me and everything works much more smoothly now.
Flashed reveloution Rom no issues so far

I really don't think they are in june I just said screw it and rooted and installed AOKP with a custom kernel and that has fixed it... and EOS JellyBean with a custom Kernel... They don't even care anymore i don't think

Still got the sound bug with Mike's rims but no rebbots what's the best Rom / kernel combo which gets rid of these issues

Try Team EOS 3 *JELLYBEAN* Nightlies combined with K.A.T. kernel and app. Works like a charm and no sound issues at all.

Hmmm. I never had to worry about the sound issue with Mike's ROM, but using Volume+ from the Play Store seems to have solved that same issue on CM10 for some reason, so you might give that a try. No idea why it's working exactly, but no complaints, either.

[Q] Torrent clients **** up my Nexus 7. Anyone else tried this?

Hi there
Now I have tried two torrent clients; tTorrent and aTorrent Beta. EDIT: and now also uTorrent!
With both clients I have tried to download Game of Thrones season 1, but every time I leave it, a couple of minutes later, my Nexus screen is either frozen or turned off.
Then I have to hold the power button for 20-30 sec, and then it reboots.
I have uninstalled both of them again, because it's certainly those programs making the issues. Have someone tried the same thing? EDIT: You think it has something to do with the file I download? Just weird, since it looks legit (many seeders/leechers).
Specs:
Nexus 7 - rooted
Custom ROM: PA 2.56, CM based
franco kernel
Try adownloader. Haven't had a problem yet. Although I'm not using a custom ROM. I'm just unlocked rooted and have trinity's kernel. So may be an issue with the ROM. But just try adownloader see if it works fine. Works(ed) on my dx2 sinc2 and my nexus7 without any problems so if something happens could be ROM or kernel. Also I'm on 4.2.1 and not having any issues.

I haven't had any issues with uTorrent. Used it about a dozen times for small torrents.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
+1 for 'adownloader new', I've tried multiple torrent clients, and this one is the best. uTorrent froze my phone (or tablet, I can't remember where I tried it), others are limited to certain speed or number of downloads (free ones, that is).
The only problem I've had with adownloader is, that it sometimes doesn't start downloading if I open torrent directly from chrome (download, and click on it in notifications). Opening torrent from adownloader directly works w/o problems (or from file explorer)
If you suspect the file, download some Ubuntu, those are 100% legit (from official website)
Okay, thanks for for responses. Maybe it's the ROM or kernel then.
I could maybe also be the size of torrent (5,5gb)?
My Nexus 7 usually hangs when trying to download a torrent. I have trying tTorrent.
I am using Jelly Belly Rom v11 with Franco kernel r30
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Had the same issue with my Nexus 7, running Trinity kernel and stock ROM. Using atorrent (not beta or pro), since it is on one of my favorite sites white list. Since updating the kernel and switching to CleanRom, I haven't had this happen since. Still using atorrent.
The only other insight I can offer from my findings is that it would happen when the number of connections would exceed roughly 25 connections.
Okay, cool. Thanks for the answers everyone.
It's not crucial I can download from it, would be cool though. Guess I'll wait till I update it some day!

I too experience bad performance on my nexus 7 with torrent clients. The protocol is heavy on cryptography so I wonder if the new entropy mod will hero l help
No problems at all. Stock. Using ttorrent

I use the torrent app. Not seeing bad battery life or performance issue on stock 4.2.1.

It's kinda disappointing to hear that many people have had problems torrenting on the N7 since that was one of the first things I planned to set up. I'll probably give it a go anyway to see what happens, but after reading through this thread I don't have high hopes for the result.
I have noticed mine starts getting laggy and freezing up when download speeds are over 1MB/sec. This is using atorrent.

Fl studio on N7 which ROM and kernel?

I'm using pa3.56 with stock kenel. No complaints, well worth the money. I even stopped using it on the comp. Not as many features as it does tho. The touch interface is really nice to work with and makes it so much easier in my opinion.
As far as the app itself, no slow downs, stutters, hiccups or force closes. Best used with actual headphones not the ear buds or apple. I'm just using a pair of $20 dollar Sony studio headphones with no complaints.

Thanks for that - anyone using with a custom kernel? any ideas if it will work (there is a warning on the app description that root and custom kernels can cause issues...)
I'll flash a kernel tomorrow if no one else gets to it. I used to flash them but kinda got pointless considering I'm not power hungry with my n7 lol. Any particular kernel you want me to try? I already have Franco and bricked.

Try m-kernel, once i finish moving into my new place and get settled with my finances i really want to buy fl studio and play around with it, i remember making some sweet stuff a few years back on PC, I'm excited to see what they have brought to the table with a mobile app.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Well, it wasn't horrible, but not to keep with the kernel. Going back to stock.
I noticed the app did take longer to load, maybe by a few seconds. When I was dragging tracks over to loop longer I noticed it doubled the track a few times. I experienced a few hiccups in time where I couldn't keep the beat playing piano.
Over all, the app is great and can't wait for the update where you can add your own stuff like the guitar. But the developer is right about kernels causing an issue. I can vouch custom ROMs don't at least.

thanks for trying - good to know... i have bought reloop and it is very laggy on my N7 with faux kernel and stock rom, it runs much better on my xperiaT with stock kernel and rom so i guess original kernel perform better in this cases...

[Q] Random Restart

Hi there folks .. been using the Nexus 10 for the past few days. All stock settings with minor apps installed. But I noticed a few times on random basis the machine just restarts by itself. All restart happened when I was browsing on Chrome. Latest was just this morning I was reviewing some sites on the comparison of browsers from different source and suddenly just restarted for no apparent reason.
No big deal for me but don't feel nice. Any way to check or find out what's causing it to restart and how to stop it??
Chrome has never played nice with my tablet...I would highly suggest using a different browser
I only have random reboots in Chrome now. I think its memory-related, but not sure
4.3 fixed the memory leak related reboots.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium HD app
Thanks .. I'm already running 4.3 on my Nexus 10. I just needed to ensure this is really Chrome problem. I could install other browsers to try. Please share if others are also experiencing the same problem.

Dead Trigger 2

Anyone able to play this on their N10? It causes mine to freeze and reboot. I am on Vanir, but tried it on Buttered Manta and Dalingrin's rooted stock to no avail. It seems like I'm not the only one with the problem when looking at reviews on Play, but I did find a few blog comments where people claim it runs great on the N10. So, if anyone knows the secret to getting this working, please share.

Hi, I am on Stock ROM 4.3 with KTmanta kernel. My governor is "pegasusq", scheduler is "Sio", Max CPU frequency capped at 1300 Mhz. CPU undervolted, starting at 710 mV. GPU settings are Un-Tweaked. With these settings, Dead Trigger 2 runs "Butter Smooth", both with Low and High detail. I don't play games really, but the initial impression about DT-2 is that the Graphics are simply amazing, even better than NOVA! I JUST LOVE MY NEXUS 10
