The past 3 hours or so I've been trying to unlock my nexus 4 bootloader
I've tried using 2 tool kits and also tried doing it manually..
After installing the android SDK and enterin "adb reboot bootloader" I always get Error Device not found.
I tried deleting the drivers but I dont get the option of "Delete the driver for this device" under Device Manager.
I've tested this TWICE on 2 seperate machien, 1 running windows 8 and 1 running windows 7..
USB debug is on.
Any help would be greatly appreciated (Running 4.2.2 Stock)
When you enabled USB debugging, did you get a prompt on your phone saying if you trust your computer?
Make sure you navigated to the ADB folder correctly.
Make sure your phone is turned on and not in fast boot.

You need to enable USB debugging ...
Go to settings
Then go to about tablet
Then tap on build number aprox5 of 6 times ... You will see a toast notification the will say "you are now a developer"
Now try to what you tried to do before

You also will be unlocking the bootloader with fastboot commands, not adb.
ok i fixed it the usb degugging was already enabled. Just downloaded the drivers from asus website and now it is showing up in adb

I plugged my Nexus into my computer(running windows 8) and it was recognized so I thought the drivers were installed but then I got the nexus toolkit and selected unlock bootloader but while I was in fast boot it hangs there saying wait for device... I tried to install the drivers from the toolkit and still it says waiting for device. Any ideas?

Make sure the drivers were installed correctly. I've read some threads past that there was an issue installing the drivers in Windows 8.
Did you turn on USB debugging? Go to the "About Tablet" section in settings and tap on "Build Number" a couple of times. It should say "You are a developer!". This unlocks developer options in the main settings. From here you can enable or disable USB debugging. Try whatever you are doing again and it should (hopefully) work.

same problem here.
I tried to install the ASUS driver on my XP machine. But the installation wizard keeps saying "Parameter is incorrect" or "Cannot start hardware"
Just to be sure, you ARE using the cable which arrived with your Nexus 7 right? Because I used a SGS3 cable and it didn't work though it fit nicely

I had the same problem. Very frustrating. Sounds like you guys need to open the device manager on your PC and uninstall every Google, android, nexus7 or any other phone driver installed.(HTC,samsung) all of them. Also check in USB drivers. Get rid of them.
Reboot your PC.
Make sure USB debugging is enabled on the nexus.
Power the nexus off. Enter fast boot on the nexus. Power-volume up-down. Connect your nexus to the PC and let the drivers install on their own.
Go back and check your device manager on the PC and look for a yellow exclamation mark on your android, Google, adb or nexus driver installed. Right click it and select updated driver.
Let me know if this helps.

It helped, tnt0303. Thx.
I had same issue. In fast-boot mode it was always giving the yellow exclamation mark. This is what I did to install the drivers.
Device Manger ->Nexus 7(yellow exclamation mark) -> right click -> Update driver ->Let me pick from the list of device drivers on my computer-> select show all devices->next->Have Disk->browse to folder where you unzip nexus drivers then -> ok ->select Android bootloader drivers
Hope this helps
I finally got my Nexus 7 (2013) driver loaded after many issues. Following the directions on the video for unlocking, after typing the "fastboot oem unlock" command in command prompt, I get a waiting on device message. Please help!!
You can always go on www.wugfresh.com, find it on Google. For some reason yesterday I would type that in and get a Internal 500 error. Go to his website and download his nexus root toolkit. Make sure you have the proper drivers installed. In the Nexus root toolkit there is a section at the top of the program which guides you through obtaining the correct drivers.
Also make sure you've clicked the version 7 or 8 times to "become a developer". When connected make sure you have use debugging on, and the tablet is not in MTP mode. I just unlocked and rooted my tablet yesterday. Good luck!

I encrypted my phone without realizing that CWM did not support encrypted devices. To fix this I was going to install TWRP since it does support it. My phone is working correctly with adb but I cannot get fastboot to find the device at all. This is making it so I cannot install TWRP on my phone now. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks for any help.
You can install the recovery directly through the phone through Goomanager, but the fact that your computer doesn't recognize the device in fastboot is an issue I feel needs to be addressed. Goomanager solves the problem of the recovery, but I'm not sure about the fastboot issue.

I had this issue on a different device. To solve it I went into control panel, device manager. Then look for the usb device that had an exclamation mark on it (with your device plugged into the usb port). Right click on it and update driver software. Then go to browse my computer and choose, let me pick from a list...... Pick the android composite adb interface. It'll ask you if your sure, just say yes

Thank you, thank you, thank you. This enabled MTP mode for me in about 3 seconds on my Windows 8 PC. I had tried using Wug's toolkit both automated and manual even disabling enforcement of digital signatures on driver installation and had also installed latest ADK and Google drivers to no avail (all that got me was connection in camera mode and ability to see only DCIM). I don't remember having this kind of trouble last time I decided to play with my Nexus 4. Not sure if I was using my old Windows 7 machine then or if there is a conflict with the other drivers on my machine (I have recently flashed both Motorola and Samsung devices too). I wish you had posted a couple of hours sooner lol.
Ive been searching and trying for quite some time now for a solution but I have yet to find one.
My problem is this, I've soft bricked my Nexus 7. I can get into fastboot and recovery (CWM).
My computer has had a fresh install since i rooted last, now when i connect with USB it doesnt even come up in device manager. Everything ive found online tells me Windows will automatically detect the device then i can update the driver. But i cant even get that far!
I was wondering if anyone could PLEASE help me figure this one out? Is there some way to force Windows 7 to install a USB driver for Nexus 7. Ive downloaded the specific driver.
I'd hate for my Nexus 7 to end its life this way.
Did you try with wugs toolkit. It should have multiple solutions for USB drivers.

I tried Wugs toolkit... also step by step, manually in SDK but Im always getting stuck at "Windows will automatically detect your device" because it doesnt.
the only solution i can think of is to get another nexus 7 to install the drivers and take it from there, but thats a leap i'd rather not take unless it's completely necessary. Even then there is no guarantee that it will work.
Are the latest chip set drivers for the computer installed correctly? All windows updates and drivers? Tried another USB device, cord, and port? Of the 5 ports on my laptop only 1 works for adb and fastboot.

When using WUG's Toolkit be sure to use the USB deview tool inside the driver section.. Remove all of the entries with the Vendor IDs listed in the tool dialogs.

Interesting that some of you have been able to get adb working. I've tried every possible USB drivers and cannot get adb working for my nexus 7, nexus 10, or Acer iconia A1-830. My phone still runs android 4.2, connects no problem. There is no solution, must be because I'm still running winxp on laptop
