You have to be on the Facebook messenger app and go to setting and activate the messenger app as you regular message, now if you want to have the chat head, either way for a person to send you a message or, in message app hold down a pop up will appear and press on "pop out chat head"

Doesn't work. And no, there isn't a chat head option in Facebook or messenger app.

I found that the chat head only appears if i leave my "home screen". my girlfriend sent me a message and nothing happened until I opened the browser or any other app. When i did that the chat head floated on to the edge of the screen. If i leave the app it dissapears!? I have tested with Nova Prime, SSlauncher, Buzz launcher and the stock TouchWiz launcher. The same thing happens.
Very strange.

A quick restart after update and checking it in settings (of the messenger app) might work out.

It doesn't work if you have your status bar hidden or apps that go into full screen.

Chat heads not working
-No full screen app
-Tried leaving home screen
-Checked settings in all 3 sections. (No chat heads option)
-Tried different ROM
-Status bar never hidden
-Tried different buildprop spoofs
-Tried reinstalling app
-Cleared data and cache
-I've done almost everything
Both Xylon and Carbon not working.
[NEXUS⁴] [CARBON] [MATR1X8] [TWRP]

Seems to be working for me. Checked both boxes in messenger settings. Stock/unrooted if that matters.

Yeah only thing i find kind of annoying is how even after you read the message it stays there, ya have to drag it to the X.

Here working without a problem, just desinstalled primary and messenger apps, then download from play store and vualá. In case, Paranoid and stock kernel

I saw a screen shot on CNET that had an option for Chat Head Notifications in Notification Settings. I cant seem to find it in my settings pane. What's the current version everyone is using?

Chat Heads wont work
I have tried everything...
Uninstall each app, reinstall.
Uninstall both apps, reinstall.
Restart between each install.
Clear Cache
Clear Data
More restarts.
I've had people messaging me all day and I CANNOT GET CHAT HEADS TO WORK!
Ugh I want it to work so bad, if anyone has found a fix please let the community know.
It doesn't even show the options in settings yet I have Messenger version 2.4.2 build 178229
Nexus 4 on T-Mobile USA in WA. Stock Android 4.2.2 not rooted.

Hi, not working here..... i tried to change rom change everything but nothinf still not working! AOKP last build

An account issue
So I've identified it as a Facebook account issue. Chat Heads doesn't on my phone with my account, but when I logged in with a friends account chat heads worked fine.
Such a bummer... when I logged out of their account and logged back into mine the functionality was locked again and chat heads is no where to be found as long as I use my account.

Tried using the re-signed APK versions of Katana, Orca, and Home from Paul at MoDaCo. Got home to work, but chat heads wasnt available...so I uninstalled. Home is...well...meh.
Really wanted chat heads, guess i'll just wait for a fix i guess...

As you can see, no available option for 'Chat Heads'

[Q] SMS Count Wrong

The stock text messaging app always shows 1 unread message on its icon. It's very annoying and I can't find a way to make it go away. Go SMS makes you buy the premium app to sync facebook photos and Handcent is ugly as sin and doesn't seem to handle FB pics either. Only the stack app does this right, so I want to use it. but I can't get the unread count to go away. Has anyone else had this problem?

I've seen reports of this problem on other forums. Solution there was a factory reset unfortunately.

I saw that somewhere, too. Every time I see that as the solution, I just shake my head.

No problems here. Instead if going straight to factory resets you can try force stopping it and restarting it in app settings

Good idea he could also try clearing cache and deleting settings for the messaging app.

checking in... same issue.
My issue is not so persistent but still noticeable. I considered it an annoyance but becoming more and more disheartening.. I haven't pain close enough attention as of yet but will begin to. That being said, grain of salt here.. seems to be happening mostly when a text comes in while plugged into my pc via usb. The missed messages indicator seems to go away after viewing (of course) then letting ten or so minutes pass..
As stated tho, i haven't been paying enough attention to it to say these are solid observations.
Even though you'd have to redo your home screens, this is better than a factory reset - but clearing the data on the stock launcher should get rid of that.

Messaging Pop-Up - Not showing up anymore

So i just noticed that with the stock LG messaging application i am not getting the pop-up quick reply. I'm assuming it has something to do with something i froze in titanium backup however instead of going through each one one by one and going through a bunch of test text messages to figure it out i'm turning to the community.
Does anyone know which service allows the pop-up to happen?
Thanks!
I don't always get it, either. Seems to only pop up if I'm on my home screen. Been meaning to ask a few friends to text me back so I can test it out.
That's how it is suppose to work, however that has stopped working for me hence the post

Well I unfroze everything & still not working dyes I have the option set to yes. Only things I've done is flash stock browser and installed an old apk of Google Talk as I didn't like Hangouts.
I think maybe something with the Google Talk install did it. Looks like I'll have to restore to a backup.

Mine stopped working as well. Did everyone here install GMD Auto Hide?
i used TWRP to do a factory wipe and it fixed it. Restored my backup and wasn't there. Yes i installed gmd auto hide.
I think GMD is breaking the pop up. Oh well.. I rather not have those ugly software buttons than have the message pop up.

[L5-II E450] Small but anoyng issue with new FB Layout

Hello friends, as you know facebook is rolling a new Layout for they'r official APP.
I hear it is server side, so as long you have Android 4.x, you can roll back older instalation, uninstall and download the older FB APP APK, you can do all that and the new Layout still will be present.
The Layout is fine exept for one small but big issue.
At the buttons on top (Feed, Notifications, Friends Request) it dont display the Messages button.
I dont use FB chat, it is aways off and now exept for the push notifications i cant see if i have new messages on the APP, i need to check then via the options menu.
That is very anoyng for my use and a very deal breaker.
I tryed 3rd party APPs but none seens nice too.
Is there a way (as it seen to be server side) to roll back for the older layout, or add the stupid messages button??
Thanks for all, here what i mean:
It is not an issue for this device... We are not developers, so maybe you could ask for an explanation in the comments of the Facebook app in Google play..

[q] Old notifications from same app deleted in Android N

Hello, I'm in stock unrooted Android n preview 3. It appears that notifications that come from the same app, when I have left another notifications sitting there, will be overridden and disappear.
This is a big problem for me, as I use cloudmagic to track multiple tasks that pop up for me, and I let them sit there. Sometimes I'll have 10 notifications at once that I need to get to. Is there a way to override this behavior that I missing? Sorry if this is already been answered, I did do a search and was unable to come up with any results
Thank you in advance for your help.

I haven't tried N, so unfamiliar on how the notifications display but the best bet would be to contact the app developer and explain.
AFAIK or understand by a quick search, the behavior is controlled by the app calling the same tag/id with different notification parameters which will overwrite the previous one.
Also have you tried any of the notification managers on play? Could be an easy work around or easier to manage.

I did contact the app developer and explained exactly what you said previously. They are blaming it on N. I told them they need a unique intent for each call. They didn't respond.
Can't use a third party notification manager because of special features within the cloud magic reminders
