I've read a lot about the media server process since it always takes the second highest percentage in my battery use (8-12% or more) and I've tried turning off sounds, checking for faulty apps but it always seems to get more time out of nothing. Just to check, the process had been running for 1 hour 32 minutes and 50 seconds, so I opened YouTube, played a video for 3 seconds, then quit and returned to see that now it had used 1 hour 33 minutes and 15 seconds. Is this normal? The issue has been present with all the ROMs and kernels I've tried.

Stupid phone died after 9 hours of being off charger. I listened to about 30-60 minutes of Pandora, played Slice It for about 30 minutes. Read several emails from GMail and Y!Mail apps. Sent several texts. Browsed the internet about 30 minutes. I love how it gives a 15% warning and lasts no more than 10 minutes after that.
Sounds like you need to calibrate

Not able to post a screenshot just yet, but here's the current status of my phone :
Battery on 21% currently
6 days, 4 hours, 0 minutes, 38 seconds on battery
Screen : 33% ( 3 hours, 28 minutes, 50 seconds )
Waiting time 26%
Phone is inactive : 26%
Voice calls : 4% ( 20 minutes, 40 seconds )
PES2011 : 3% ( 31 minutes, 30 seconds )
Android OS : 3%

So basically, 20 minutes of phonecalls, 30 minutes of gaming, 3 hours of turned on screen, and phone's battery is on 21% after 6 days of not charging.
The funny thing is - the battery section isn't displaying the web browsing/downloading I did on Opera in these 6 days ( had internet connection via wireless on my college ), the SMSing I did, and the 20 minutes I watched latest How I Met Your Mother episode.
( the only program I have installed that directly correlates to battery performance is advanced task killer; every time before I lock my phone after using it, I kill all processes running in background, including ATK itself; and of course, I manually disable bluetooth/wireless/data transfer after I'm done using them )
I haven't rooted my phone yet ( I haven't seen any JITs around so I don't particulary need the root yet ), so I can't snap a screen yet, but I'll try to get a friend to come over and take a picture of phone while on "Battery" section.
Hope this helps any future Arc customer.
This is pretty impressive
Did you use stock camera app?
2 days I used it and during the night baterry dropped from 24% to 2% overnight (at about 5-6h)
Today I charged it, used stock camera app. off/on Arc and then it dropped from 100% tu 94% or 95%, so definitely there is something with camera app.
My phone is also not rooted. I also lauch WiFi connection when I have to. It is off by default.
.184 soft.
screen on for only 3 hours just means you have left it in idle 24/7
I get around 2 days of moderate to heavy usage with around 150 MB 3G data every day
The camera app drain is one thing... I deleted some SE stuff which was still working in the background, so it reduced first draining way...I was happy few days, because battery life was cool, after 14 h of use it has about 40% left. Till today, the drainig came back and I dont know why:
I checked running process and there was something like that com.sonyericsson.usbdevice (dont know exactly but something with usb) I closed it and draining stopped...:-[
I suppose this process is related to charging and plugging to usb as the name suggest. Now I wonder if I can froze or delete this app?

My battery life has been increased after rooting and removing bloatware apps & moving all my apps to sd.
The only issue is with the camera, after using it my battery goes up to 40-50 mAh, while im normally on 4mAh. So, we all hope for a software update by SE to fix it..
My battery is awesome. With 3G on, BT on, my Arc lasts at least 2 days under moderate use.
However, it seems that someones really have the battery drain issue. I dont understand why and how to solve it. Just like my X10, I got serious battery issue while I read many posts showing how good their battery time were.
I use phone like :
Mx video around two hours a day w/Bluetooth
Bluetooth music around one hour
Keep all sync on include google talk and whatsapp
web browsing and email checking
First charge of battery last for six hours with wifi on
Now in second time.Heavy loading with loop mx player - hardware decode.
It's drop 1% every 4 minutes now
----->>> This is first charge ,from 100% to 1x%
----->> I'm sorry that some char in pictures will be Chinese
-----> My friend told me that it's better to let battery down to 15% ,and full recharge ,and repeat it 3-4 times for the best effect of battery memory ,right now repeating the process
Video Playback around 3 hours .100% brightness ,100% volumn.
3G on ,WIFI sometimes ,Bluetooth around 1 hours .
Start from 8:00am ,now it's ~14:30
It's odd that from 8:00am -> 10:00am it drop about 20% ,I'm sleeping so it is under sleep mode ,due to wifi issue ?? I'm using D-Link 655 802.11n
Remark - MX video with bluetooth audio, 5 minutes use 1%
Prepare for third test
Prepare for fourth test
If you're asleep and your not messing with your phone it shouldn't drop 20% just because your on WiFi, there was/is something keeping your phone awake (out of deep sleep) you should probably check out betterbatterystats from the market to see what it is.
What's the app you are using to monitor battery life?
Thanks,
Dave

I get this as well and have been for a while it seems.
EDIT:
Ups, I get it for my Galaxy Nexus.
I'm having the same wakelock issue on my xoom. Seems that AudioOut_2 is holding partial wakelock ~20% of the time. Someone on google+ said they thought it was related to the clicking sounds with the keyboard and screen on/off, but that doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense to me. Have you found anything else useful?
On my galaxy nexus (also running jelly bean) the time AudioOut_2 occupies is insignificant
I experienced this last week for my N7 and couldn't find any useful post regarding the issue. It was training my battery pretty fast and I find it running for hours often under BetterBattery. It's definitely not the clicking sound as I've disabled all keyboard and screen touch sound since day 1.
After couple of days playing around I was able to find the problem is caused by the game GTA3. When I exit the game, I didn't close it completely and it's still running in the background. As soon as I end the game process, the AudioOut_2 stopped running. It since the AudioOut_2 is associated with games. I notice this process shows up when running numerous games but so far GTA3 is the only one that kept this process running if not exiting completely.
Hope this helps.
I've been getting this on several different ROMs and still haven't figured it out. Not much about it on Google. I have it even when I don't have games installed so not sure what it could be.
i dont have GTA 3 and i still get the wakelocks. on stock and modaco roms. =\ also have keyboard on silent as well as screen off and touch sounds.
anyone got a clue?
well, not necessarily caused by gta. it could be any game or app. my dungeon hunter 3 also triggers audioout_2 process, but when i go back to home screen the process wont be running unlike gta3.
Hello, I have a Galaxy Nexus with a great (5,6%) percentage of AudioOut_2 wakelocks. Never installed GTA3.
I flashed faux kernel this morning and the wakelock is completely gone. Been about 7 hours with no issue

Any app that uses audio can cause this. Play movie didn't close properly and caused audio out wake lock for me as well as leaving mob atbat runnng . as well as some games. You need to figure out what app didn't close properly that is leaving audio running

I have this as #1 on my N7 as well, no games or keyboard sounds. I wish bbs listed the app which was responsible.
this is not related with any application AudioOut_2 itself, and it starts only if you open data connection or wifi and never stop again if you not restart the phone without internet. i use nexus s and i have it too.
After doing a bit of investigation, I'm pretty sure this wakelock is lingering after using either MX Player or BS Player. I haven't used either on my current charge and the battery is still at 75% after 1d 20h, with just over 1 hr screen time. The AudioOut_2 wakelock time is only 46 seconds. With media player usage and similar screen on time the wakelock time would be over 30 minutes and the battery would be below 50%.
I don't know enough about how all this works to tell whether it's a problem with the apps themselves or the Android media server. It would be great to get to the bottom of this as I really think it's contributing a great deal to my battery use.

Had this been confirmed?
Also have it here, about 25 to 40% wakelock.
After cancelling all hiptick sounds and rebooting this seems to be all over for me.
Hope it's still relevent for someone.
16 hours uptime, 2 percent / 20 minutes wakelock audioout_2 ... Feck! I know thats not toooo much but I still hate when this stuff isnt linked to an appropriate app ...
after doing some investigation with betterbatterystats, i kept getting the same wakelocks. I pretty much was able to pin point it by seeing what apps were generally running in the background, then disabling 1 app at a time until I found what was causing mine.

which was...?
mine was dice with buddies, every time a notification came in it would cause a wakelock. i turned off all sound notifications and audioout2 went from 10% down to 2%
See the attached picture, this battery drain happens every day and takes up more then the screen so I'll finish the day with 1.5 to 2 hours SOT while over 50 percent is sucked up by the OS. Any fixes?

How do I fix this
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
This happens sometimes and seems to be triggered by the Location service (even with GPS off - but with wifi/data location on). It seems sometimes the phone is kept on a wake lock state which doesnt allow it to properly enter sleep mode.
When it happens, try rebooting your phone. That fixes it for me. It happens sometimes (about 1x every 2 weeks), and the reboot always fixes it.
