[Q/Solved] Use of GPS (Sygic) drains the battery (CM10 - 09/04) - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I’m having a Defy running with CM10 by Quarx NightBuild from 09/04.
When I’m using a GPS apps (Sygic) in my car with car charger plugged (Belkin USB Car Charger output 5v), instead of charging the phone, the battery drains slowly.
When I try to limit the Max CPU frequency to 800Mhz in the performance menu, when it comes back from sleep, it reset the frequency to 1000Mhz.
Any ideas how to solve this issues?
Buy a more powerful car charger? ( Maybe one that can charge my Asus transformer pad ? )
Thanks for your help.
Otherwise the rom is running fine!

Huh, I had this same problem with early CM7 builds. Problem was solved by itself with newer bulds. I did not think it would come up again in someones CM10!!
I cannot actually help you sorry..

I've bought a new car charger on amazon :
USAMS USB Max 3,1A /1A (12 - 24V)
It seems to do the job for now.
:highfive:

overheating when on charge

Hi, I use a non-official car charger and after half an our I got The battery icon on the screen becoming red with an esclamation mark on it. bottom part of the liquid gets quite hot (not much but noticeably). I switched to my htc car charger and I had a little improvement (1 hr before red icon). Now it happens also with the official wall-plug charger ( but a couple of hrs after). I noticed the wall-plug puts out 5v dc. On the back of the phone, after removing battery, I can read 5v maximum but on the back of the battery itself it's written max 4,225v.
sound strange! could be the cause? or maybe my rom angio acr 1,8 is?
couldn't find similar problem around...
same to me using tomtom charger...
Using setcpu?
I think it get overheated when you use the phone and charge it at the same time. Snapgdragon gets hot!
well, in the last 2 home charges no over heating...
I found out htc carcharger put out 5V 2A, while home charger provides 5V 1A, that's should be the overheating. now the question is: where to find a proper carcharger?
update
I found a micro carcharger from hamlet-exagerate pushing out 1,2A, testing in the next days...You need the USB cable to make ot work
It says Input: 1A on the inside of the liquid next to the IMEI. So maybe you should stick with a 1A =< Charger, because you may void your warranty or(and) destroy you battery or the liquid!
ca't find a suitable one! hope 0,2A won't make the disaster...
Ok, now using EviL 1.8.1 no more overheating...

Charging Problem with Navigation turned on

Hi,
I have a navigation software on my x10. everything works fine but it seems that this programm needs so much battery that the charger can´t charger the battery.
With navigation turned on and charging the battery is still getting lower and lower.
I have a self build car charger in my car with 1000mA but it seems, that it´s not enough.
Have you any suggestions, how to solve the problem? Is there an app to change the cpu usage for the navigation to e.g. 60% instead of 100%? Or is this only possible with rooted phones?
Thanks.
Same Problem over here.
My only solution --> 2G instead of 3G and turning off W-Lan.
In that way (with GPS and Bluetooth active), the phone at least charges very slowly and doesn't drain the battery.
I had turned WLAN, BT, 3G off. But my battery was still not loading... Maybe I have to switch from 100% Screen brightness to automatic. I will try it the next time...

But the charging symbol shows up?
Did you shorten the Data+ and Data- Lines on your selfmade car charger?
I guess, you build it, like i did:
I took a 12V cigarette lighter to USB adapter.
Then I broke that thing apart and soldered a (micro) USB cable directly do the USB jack.
To make it working, I had to shorten the inner two lines.
Otherwise, the phone didn't charge at all.
Then I glued / taped / bubblegummed the whole thing an threw it behind my radio
Or did you build an other solution?
I build it myself, not broken a charger, and yes, it´s working (data is shorten), but it´s not enough to load the battery during navigation. If I turn navigation off, my battery is charging as usual.

Nice one
Uhm.. what about rising mA a little further?
I've no clue what max. should be.
Probably you know?
I've also seen USB Chargers with 1500mA.
But I dunno, if its a good idea.
Phone + Battery would also heat up a little further...
Another Idea:
Maybe there is a couple of Apps running at full load in the background?
Take a look around in this forum.
Especially at the "helix launcher" and the "battery life issues" threads.
You can also download the App "SystemPanelLite".
With that one you can search and monitor the running Apps and their CPU consumption and so on.
With "Task Manger" (the one made by Rhythm Software) you can set up a auto kill rule.
Hope, that helps...
I have also tried to charge my phone with my car charger left from Omnia HD and the phone is not charging ??? HTC Desire is charging but X10 is not. Can someone tell me what could be the problem ??
Tnx
@damirbusic
The Problem is, that the two Data Pins (2 & 3 - the two middle ones)) must be shorten. Then the X10 is loading...
@McKebapp
I´m tried it with helix launcher and have some applications auto killed and all tasks closed. But it's still not enough.
It´s possible to charge the Li-Ion Batteries with 1500 mA. That will be my last solution. Don´t want to charge it with 1500mA due to overheating, specially in the summertime...
I don't have this issue at all, weird

@UserX10:
Uhm... that is strange after all...
Which Navi-SW do u use?
I use "Sygic" for onboard navigation.
Normaly I use Sygic, too.
I tried Navigon, too, but the same result.
Both Apps draining the battery more then the charger is loading...

Really Strange...
Which temperatures do you have to deal with?
My last Idea: Maybe some overheat protection, that limits the charging rate?
By my one is the problem defently the temparatur... when i hold me phone in to the airstream from the aircooling then does the phone charging works. If i let the phone just on the right side of me on seat the it doesnt charged. But the symbol on the phone say the is currently charging... with the tool batterygraph can i see, thats isnt true...
aso i can reconized that the phone is hot.. realy hot.. extremly when the sun does shine on the phone.. the only solution is for me, to hold the phone from time to time at the airstream or i let the phone down in to the footweel, where does the sun not shine and a airstream flow around...
The akku is the warmest thing. without the cover, it works better.. i thnk the akku has around 45°... when is hot..
tested with navigon..
Hm... that´s possible. I will try it the next time with holding it in the airstream... Maybe that´s the solution.
I've got an windshield holder (dunno the correct English word).
While I'm driving open with my convertible, I set the airstream to the windshield (demister setting, but without heat), to cool the Phone a little down.
(If the Car is closed, I usually drive with activated A/C at 19°C - 23°C depending on my mood and the frozen girl on my side )
My Phone never exceeded 40°C.
So, this really may be the solution.
BY shorten the middle 2 pins... do you mean "short circuit" by joining the pins together in some way.
I have the same issue - I have the car charger from my old samsung omnia but it doesn't charge the phone and using any navigation software drains the battery very quickly
Jepp, short circuit the both two middle pins, then it will work.
For information: I tested today the charging with power supply.
780 mA is the maximum what the X10 takes. Tested with empty Battery (in Idle Mode and Apps running + WLAN + BT + GPS). Same result.
So a 1000 mA charger is fully sufficient.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Great work!
What's your opinion about your battery drainage?
Do you really think that the phone, running at full load, will suck more than 780mA to prevent charging?
Or is it really an overheating prevention?
Something I realized today:
I drove around for about an hour today.
We had 31,5°C today.
The phone was placed in its windscreen holder directly facing with its backside to the sun.
I drove with closed top A/C at 23°C.
At the end, when I was at home, the App "TempMonitor" showed me 56°C at the battery, that still was charging.
On weekend I'll try pushing the limits a little higher.
Empty battery + Navigation + open top without any A/C.
I hope my phone doesn't melt away

[BUG] freezing with car charger

Hi everybody and pardon in advance if there's already any other thread about it (I didnt found ..).
I'm experiencing freezing after I remove sgs2 from car charger, or after I close a call while charging. trying to switch the screen off causes freezing, I haft remove battery.
further infoes:
-car charger features: 5v 1a and no problem with other devices
-no problem until screen is off, freezing appears when I start using the phone and than I switch the screen off.
-my app list is very long, but this bug happened from the very first day I bought sgs2
-I installed "battery indicator" from market. it has the capability to show temperature and volting. before the phone freezes, I can read: hi temperature (over 35°) and "overvolting" issue (over 4,8v) .
it seems my sgs2 doesnt fit perfectly my charger and goes to overvoltage. screen is very hot when it freezes.
-cpuset is conservative 200-800 (it solved hot issue in daily usage)
did anybody else experience this bug? any hint aside not use the car charger?
tnx in advance
Is it a Samsung Car Charger or from some different manufacturer?
There was a thread on here about using non Samsung wall chargers. The discovery was if the charger has a poor output (ie noisy) it will cause some glitching or visible stuttering to the display whilst swyping through screens and stuff.
Might be similar?
u right about wall charger: stuttering using 1A 5v htc charger (samsung one is 5v 0.7A) and different Amperage doesnt affects time to charge my galaxy.
I was talkin of car charger, maybe it's 1A to causes overvoltage? I ll give it a try with another one, or a samsung charger. I'm not using a samsung car charger.
tnx
I fixed!
this is how:
-bought new usb cable. no problem with 1A 5v charger, but cable was a chinese one, now I use original samsung
-changed settings in setup cpu: 200-1200mhz (it was 200-800 before). for some reason, underclockin could be responsible of undervolting
I dunno wich of the 2 fixed the problem, btw I got rid of that
tnx for any hint u gave

Problem while phone is charging

Hi, when I charge my phone with official charger and micro USB cable battery is between 39 and 40°C (102.2 and 104°F) and CPU between 1689 and 2016mhz, is that normal? When unplug all cores to 652mhz and everything is ok.
I have disabled gps and location service, no apps in background and first I was with miui global rom 8.2.4.0, then switched to RR 8.5.3 and happens the same and then switched to Epic Rom and its the same.
Is it normal with fast charge that tenperarure and CPU working or I have my phone broken? Thanks

Nexus 7 2012 Grouper car install problem

Hello guys how are you all doing?i am trying to get my nexus 7 2012 grouper work with autodroid 1.2.finally managed to install the rom.but I have a couple of issues
When I am driving, instead of the tablet charging via otg,it continues to drain battery.
When I turn the car off and the tablet goes to sleep mode, after 3/4 hours when I go back to the car and turn the car on,the tablet won’t boot up.i can hear my navigation voice but black screen.
And most of the time when I go back to the car after some few hours the tablet would be dead dead and have to take it out and charge it.
I like autodroid because of the option to have the media buttons on the Navbar, timurs rom don’t have that option it has only for volume (correct me if I’m wrong) for 2012 nexus 7.
What could be the course if the battery drain?i want to take the battery out and connect the tab to my car battery directly using the right dc converter but I am afraid it will also drain my car battery.any suggestions and help are welcome.thanks in advance for the answers

When I tried using the N 7 as a navigator, I found the battery going down as you describe. I found that in my case, the car's usb port was giving out a very low charge (less than 1A) which was not sufficient for the Tab's screen as well as the battery to be charged. Screen off the Tab and check if the car usb is charging it.
My solution was to use the 12V cigarette lighter port with a converter to give out atleast 1.5A.

Hello there thanks for the reply.i took the battery out and connected the tab to the car battery using dc-dc no battery mode.when I turn the tablet on it shows 100% but then it starts dropping.so even without the battery the percentage drops down.dont know why it’s dropping because the tablet is in no battery mode connected direct to the car battery.what could the issue be?could it be the battery’s pcb ?

How did you connect the N 7 to the car battery? Through the car usb which you connected directly to the car battery or through a converter/adapter? Either way, obviously the current sent to the N 7 is low. Measure the output and ensure that it is atleast 1.5A.

I connected the tablet to a dc dc 5v 3A or more if not mistaken.it the same I used for my nexus 7 2013 and never had issues with that(unfortunately the screen cracked)
