The note series is one of Samsung's flagship lines.
The 'mega' phones, on the other hand, seem to be a low/mid-range phone for people who don't need much in a phone, but want a large screen.
It's a pretty good idea, not sure how it'll sell though.
- Frank

The main difference between the Note series and any of the others (S, Mega) is that the Note series comes with a stylus.
Hence 'Note'. For note taking.
So no. I doubt the Mega series will "replace" the Note series per se.
But it might help cater more for those who want a large phone and never use their stylus.

Well, I can count up to three people I know who bought their notes just for their big screen, and almost never use the stylus.
So it might not be a "replacement", in the full meaning of the word, but more like a better option for all of the people who just don't need an stylus in their phones, specially if it comes with the not-wacom-screen discount...

I seriously doubt it, For me this mega series is just too big. I consider anything above 5.6 inches to be a tablet.

The good news is that we now know the note 3 wont be 6.3 ins.

Looking at his expected specs, especially the display, Samsung doesn't want it to be a high-end phone like the note series. It will, again it's just a rumour, have a LCD display with the same resolution as ours, but with a way lower dpi value. That's exactly the point why I'm not really interested in this device.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

thank God, i never wanted note 3 to be more than 6 in. now i can hope for a 5.7-5.9 in note 3 wow. it would be an ideal device if its 5.7 in.

Aimed at different markets - I can see this more for the "developing" markets where the majority can't afford a phone and a tablet but want both.

its not just specific to the developing countries. Even elsewhere people dont like multiple devices with scattered data. unified devices are appreciated by all these days
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

simply, mega ones are not Note no replacement

In india mega will surely replace the note..

note forever........most people cant diatinguish between the phones coz of the 99% similarity. But the stylus of the note puts a clas to it. for professionals note is the way to go.
For a resident doc its the best device i have ever had i my life. so note 3 for me. its been more than a year and my device never gave me any impression that my tech is obsolete. Good updates and full functional.
So samsung i appreciate you for this.

I would say more:
Galaxy Mega = Note 2 - S pen - Superamoled screen
And Mega line will probably stick to plastic while Note3 and S5 will change body material to single aluminium body frame.
It will be another option, that's all.

I think many people would buy a slightly improved Mega 5.8 over a Note. Put the 6.3 specs into the 5.8's body and change the screen for AMOLED and I think it would appeal to many.

if note 3 is over 6 inches then bye bye samsung. 5.8 should be the size of the note 3 and what samsung did, wasted the ideal smartphone size on a useless junk. i dont think samsung sales this year will be sky high.
i think their downhill is started because they are packing the market with junk like galaxy grand, s3 mini, note 8.0 and now this galaxy mega.
there is no development on these devices and that they are not the flagships yet they will compete with samsungs own flagships rather than competing with the rivals.
so samsung ur time to shine is gone. seems like u have burnt all he fuel and is now becoming the dying star
just a thought

TMobile officially ends the galaxy note!

It's official, TMobile has cut the galaxy note out. Why? Probably has to do with the fact that the note 2 is around the corner. And I waited all this time for the note to come out on TMobile! Late to the party note, thanks. Although I did get a note and I love it for it's huge display and stylus, there is nothing else impressive about this phone. All I can do now is wait for the note 2, will be announced thus month on the 29th, and enjoy the last few breaths this note has left,in it.

Well, besides the brick-bug which can easily be avoided, what is there to dislike? I mean, other than the quad-core behemoths, the Note is still a very powerful device and the large screen plus S Pen just add to its capabilities. If you don't find a use for the S Pen, or larger screen, then why not just get an Galaxy S3 or HTC One X rather than wait for the Note 2?

IM guessing that's directed at me since you did quote me. X) I actually traded my have for the TMobile note last week. I love the big screen and the stylus, but the note could have definitely used more ram. Most of the time at Any given usage the note is occupying more than %85 of ram and it's clearly obvious. I love the note, just wish the size matched it's internal hardware specs. Note 2 is ganna rock.

Speaking about RAM, yes I agree Note has bare minimum available to run smoothly. When I run Tasker with sweet sounding Loquendo TTS engine announcing vital info, things start to load afresh when apps are switched.

I came from a GT-I9300 international white S3 to my GT-N7100 international titanium Note2.
The S3 was FAST, most of the time. There are still android stutters here and there, like with animations ect. Even after updating to the newest Jelly bean 4.1, it made the phone smoother especially scrolling in the browser but the micro stutters are still present.
The Note 2 is almost stutter free, (much better than the S3). It rivals the iOS in the 4S and 5 for smoothness in my opinion.
The battery life on the S3 was great, the Note 2 takes it to the next level.
I used to have the International Note 1 before my S3 and I never used the S-Pen because frankly it sucked and was a pain to use. It was inaccurate, not sensitive enough for writing or drawing well imho and was too small to feel comfortable in the hand. You literally had to press it up against the screen with a fair amount of pressure for it to register.
The S-Pen on the Note 2 is a million times better, no joke. I use it ALL THE TIME now. Browsing the web, scrolling through my song list, browsing my photos. It is such a joy to use that I always take it out and use it. It's that good! Writing with it feels natural and realistic.
I could go on and rave about it endlessly but I need to go back to work...
Is it worth it over the S3? Unquestionably. This thing is absolutely the best phone in the world and in my line of work, I have the pleasure of owning and using almost every high end android phone that comes out.
Im previously a user of Note 1..was thinking to get S3, but change my mind.. not because of the awesomeness of S3 feature SW and HW, but because the screen is small to me..what people are saying that u will never go back to small screen after get Note 1 was true..lol..so now Note 2 which im consider oversized of S3, had make my dream come true! U will never regret it, not until Note 3 come out of cause..lol

Yeah, the S3 isn't at all laggy. My partner has an S3 and it's on par with the Note 2. The Note 2 is slightly overclocked but I would NEVER say that the S3 is laggy. Ufff... haha.
I also came from an s3, I have zero regrets and will be selling the gs3.
I agree with others who disliked the launcher redraws and lack of ram.
love the note 2 screen, the stylus is great and the battery life is much better.
Overall all the benefits of the s3 but refined and improved. imho

Switching from Note I to Note II

I'm seriously planning to buy a Note II and I currently own a Note I.
However, currently I see there are almost all new features that are available in Note II are now available for Note I (based on N7000XXLS7 rom update), will buying this now will really be a worthy upgrade?
Considering only on features and not on ROM Capacity , Processor type and clock speed?
Any comments would greatly appreciated.

While original note is an amazing phone, just for battery life is well worth the upgrade. I used to average 4 hrs of screen on time on my note but on note 2 i average 7 hrs. Throw in hardware upgrade and JB and its an easy decision.

Agree completely. If you like your note1, you'll love note2. I thought note1 was reall, really good. Note2 is the best phone I've ever laid hands on.

I'm thinking about it as well. Had my Note on EBay today and took it down as I have JB now and the prices will be dropping soon. Costco has the S3 for 129.00 . Black Friday deals could be worth waiting for. I don't see the advantage of the International version anymore except for the FM. Tough decesion. But the longer I wait the better idea I will have on which TW Rom will take the lead as well

I am 100% happy with my Note II and I think anyone who buys one is unlikely to be disappointed, however I didn't get that "blown away" feeling that I got when I first switched from SGSII to the original Note.
I Broke the screen on my Note I & have not got around to fixing it, so mine needed replacing anyway, before I broke the Note I, I absolutely loved it and feel it was probably the best smartphone I'd ever used ( and I have used plenty) I feel the Note II is for all intents and purposes the same phone as the Note I with a few tweaks, and since I prefer to run CM10 I have to say I barely notice the differences between the two - this is not a slur against the Note II , more praise for the Note I.
Maybe if you are a fan of Touchwiz & all the S-pen stuff then its a different story, but my experience is like an iPhone upgrade - simply more of the same with a few tweaks.
In daily use there is little difference for me, personally. My gf has the 1 now, and i am jealous of her extra 80 pixels.

Id intended to wait 2 years until I upgraded but 1gb of ram is working out to be ridiculously low and basically, while ideally id love to change to wp8 I'm addicted to android.... The only reason it's probably unknown to you is it's lack of marketing in comparison to the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4.

If this is the reason then dont even think more. Just upgrade to s4! Personally, the main reason I don't use a note 2 is size and thickness. 5 inch personally is the sweet spot for me. The screen is big while still easy to hold in hand. Specially when your hand muscles get used to the s4 after a week or so, You'll also agree that this device form factor is perfect.
On the other hand:
If dependant on note exclusive features like Spen or Great battery life, then you will definitely miss those. Just keep that in mind.

My Advice
Sell the N2 for a Good Price
Buy the S4 for a Good Price
a few months later.....................
Sell the S4 for a Great Price and Get the N3 (Second Hand value N2 vs S4, S4 will always be Higher)
Best tactic is to trade note 2 for iphone 5 then either sell it for 500 unlocked or just find somebody that wants to do straight trade for s4.
Sent from my GT-I9505
In daily usage S4 for sure, much more hands friends but keeping a big screen.
Note 2 screen size is a great advantage
Note 2 screen size is a great disadvantage.
Great robust but once you have a fairly sturdy case on it was just too big for me.
Battery life not so good on the s4 but the screen size is a compromise between the smaller HTC One and the Note.
No regrets in swapping so far.

I have 3 device in my hand. 1st one samsung Galaxy s4, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Samsung Galaxy R. Didn't even think to switch when u hace 5.5 inch screen at one hand and the fastest processor in S4 with official Cm10.1 support in Galaxy R.
