T-mobile: Nexus 4 keep turning wifi back on - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am experiencing an odd problem. I switched to the T-mobile $30 unlimited data plan by activate a new account. The weird thing is that as soon as I replace the micro-sim, I can not turn off the wifi. It's not the automatically connecting issue. The wifi is turning itself back on immediately after I turn it off. Even in the AIRPLANE MODE, I can see the wifi is turning on/off in very high frequency (almost re-bounce in one second). I tried forget wifi, factory resetting, entering safe mode and turning off the auto-wifi connecting; none of them works. But if I replace the micro-sim with the OLD one, the problem is gone immediately. So I am wondering if folks choosing the T-mobile $30 unlimited data plan have the same issue, or I should just go ahead to get another new micro-sim from T-mobile. Thanks.

flash phone back to stock and see if it continues to happen.

no, ROM is still original one, so do kernel and radio.
I have tried to replace the old and new sim several times, whenever the old sim is used the wifi can be stably turned off. Once switched back to the new sim...just keeping turning itself on and on and on.... lol
another interesting thing is that when I disabled data service under Mobile Network then turned wifi off, the rebounce of wifi would accompany by an enabled data service automatically.
will try to get a new sim at first. just can't figure what's going on inside this small thing...

Seems like every time I wake up my phone, the data connection is messed up and i have to turn it off then back on through settings to get data working again.
I know its not my network as I have had 10+ phones with this sim card in this house. Just got the HD2 yesterday and this keeps happening.
Running stock T-Mobile USA ROM.
Any help?
Thanks.

Odd data connection issue - Nexus 4 / T-Mobile

When I try to connect to a T-Mo tower for data al I get is an icon in the notification area saying "Sign in to Network" =. When I hit that I am sent to a T-Mo page asking me to sign in. I give it my credentials and press login but nothing happens.
I've talked to T-Mobile and they cannot find anything. They've sent me to Google. Waiting for them to get back to me. In the meantime I figured I'd ask XDA. So, any ideas?
Relevant parameters:
LG Nexus 4
The phone is bone stock Android 4.3
The SIM is new (about 2 months)
I can make calls and text on T-Mobile.
The SIM works in my old Nokia N97 phone and talks to T-Mobile Edge data fine.
The phone connects to ATT HSPA data fine when I put an ATT SIM in it.
The phone connects to data abroad.
Airplane mode is not on.
Data is on.
Roaming is on.
WiFi is off
Airplane mode is off.
I have wiped the phone and started from scratch, no luck.
I have tried in Safe Mode, no luck. (So it's not some odd App interaction)
I have told T-Mobile to kick me off the network and then wiped and restarted, no luck.
I have been through all the APN setting with T-Mobile, all is well.
I have wiped caches, no luck.
TIA
I'd look up the APN details on here for tmobile. Cant find a link at the moment but i know there are a few out there. T-mobile people usually have no idea...
It sounds like something on the carrier's end though. quick search brought up several topics on xda but no real solution.
It has happened to me as well, but my data still works. Sometimes I just reboot it, or put it in airplane mode and it will go away.
Unless u never get data.

this happened toe last night as well, lasted about 3 hours or so. it connected to the towers jist fine, sometimes the signal bars turned blue, sometimes not. but no data flowed through, neither via lte or hspa+. i called tmobile to check if they had an outage, they said no. i had them reset my data connection, but that didnt help. eventually data started flowing via hspa+, then via lte an hour later. i did all the troubleshooting, it wasnt an issue with the phone nor sim card. it was a tmobile issue for sure.

WiFi Calling stuck at enabling

Hi, I'm on TMobile.
My cellphone WiFi calling was working for a month since I got the phone. Somehow one day last week, I found out my phone doesn't turn on wifi calling anymore. I usually use airplane mode at home with WiFi calling.
I went into setting and found the setting is stuck at enabling. I've tried clear the cache, reboot, turning on off WiFi and airplane mode, reset network setting.
The last thing I want to do is wipe the phone. I've called TMobile and they claimed I need a new sim card.
Does anyone have similar experience and know how to solve it?
Any input will be appreciated!
Thanks

Lost LTE on Verizon

Ok... I screwed up! There is a new Verizon tower near my house and I wanted to update my roaming, so I did the *228. Alas, by accident I chose option 1 (Program phone) instead of option 2 (Update roaming). Immediately after that I lost LTE. 3G is the best I now get.
I am running 7.1 latest update. Not rooted.
Suggestions on how to get LTE back up?
Thanks!

That describes steps if I were using Oreo but alas, I am on Nougat. I will look for similar issues.
Thanks!

Try this:
*#*#4636#*#*
Phone Information
Change Preferred network type to LTE/WCDMA
If after cycling your connectivity it doesn't pop onto the Verizon 4G network, reboot your phone, you should be good then.
I dont know what it is about that setting that is different, because Verizon doesnt support WCDMA, however this seems to select the correct type of LTE connectivity and you'll be in that. Be aware though, this will likely prevent 3G from working if you enter an area without good 4G coverage.
I have tried all recommendations. LTE works for a while then it is back to 3G. On a further note, when this happens I cannot send a text message but a reboot will solve the text message issue.
I am at a loss. It seems there is no way to make the settings accessed by *#*#4636#*#* STICK.

It not just you. I have been frustrated for weeks. I thought it was only because I upgraded to 8.1 but your situation just answered that. I just ordered a new SIM from Verizon and wont run any programming once I install it. I contacted Essential on it as well as others. I hope the two can work this out.
Best option is a new some. *228 is usually no suggested on LTE unless you really know what you are doing. The PRL should be automatic on LTE.
get a new sim, your is borked now most likely
Will try new SIM tomorrow and let you know...
A VZW rep had me do *228 when I was having some issues with texting when I first got the phone. Fixed the texting issues but then I couldn't get LTE either. A new SIM fixed both issues I was having. *228 is apparently known to bork VZW LTE.
Had the same issues after using the *228 method I advise not using that at all been stuck on 3g since. Getting a new sim thursday hoping that helps (using straight talk Verizon Sim)
Here is a bit of information I have discovered. The phone is stable as long as I NEVER turn on WiFi! IF I have WiFi turned on (no connection to a network required) AND I enter a poor or non-existent service area, I loose service until I go back in with the *#*#4636#*#* and change settings back yet again!
anyone with a new sim got it working? Verizon shipped me one today and put it in. Avoided calling 228 but cannot get the sim to activate itself.
Got a SIM not provisioned error. I turned it off, took the SIM out and checked it, put it back, rebooted and still nothing. Not connecting to Verizon Network. Im afraid to call support because they will insist to call 228 to program it.
BTW the final version of 8.1 fixed all the Verizon weirdness I had going on. I popped it back in 'Global' in the Mobile Network settings (which is equivalent to 'LTE/CDMA/UMTS (PRL)' in the Phone Information section) and it hopped immediately on to Verizon, no kinda looking like sprint, no blank, no need to dial *228 for a new PRL it just worked. In fact on reboot it doesn't sit there with No Service scrolling across the screen for 15-20 seconds after boot, it shows up Verizon Wireless immediately.

That's good to hear I switched to an old straight talk TMobile sim I had while I wait for the replacement straight talk Verizon version hoping things go as smoothly for me when I pop it in

Very frustrating for me. This is my only concern with this phone . Im still stuck in 3G after doing the upgrade, hard reset, and popping in a new SIM without dailing 228. I will change my Mobile Netwok settings to yours above.

May you should try reinserting your sim my phone self corrected once my update was done.
Here are my results:
Installed new SIM - same issue
Did a network data settings reset
Verizon did a flush and reinitialize of my account.
Still same result.
Don't know exactly how or why but about 10 mins later I noticed my phone was OFF.
I powered back up and MOST issues we're gone.
The final fix was to go into developer options and turn on "cellular data always active"
Working great on LTE+

Try putting it in "4G/LTE", wait for it to connect, then back to Global.
After I posted my above message, I did go mucking around in the settings and got it stuck in 3G (even after reboots, etc), then corrected it by doing this.
And quick clarification for the post above this one, it is "Mobile Data Always Active", mine was already on and I never modified it, so that must be the default.

SIM card works in phone for a few days then loose data connectivity

Within the past two weeks I've replaced 2 SIM cards with verizon due to something funky going on with ms VS995 v20. My phone will stop showing 4glte and display either greyed out 1x or 3g. I still have talk and very limited text but I can not get any data connection. I have factory reset from system menu and factory reset through volume / power combo. Have tried airplane mode and reset network settings. If I put the SIM in my Nexus 6p it works just fine. It's like something is flipping a switch and turning off my data. This happens on bare phone (no play store apps installed).
Ideas appreciated and welcomed!!!

The sim card holder may be faulty
Sent from my LG-H910 using XDA Labs
Thanks. I thought about that but it doesn't make sense. If I put a brand new SIM in, it will activate and work great then randomly stop. No matter what after that; reseating sim, shim to make better contact, whatever, it will not get a data connection unless I throw a brand new sim card at it.
