Why would you do that?
It's not like anybody is going to look inside the battery cover anyway.

Aluminum? In terms of a sticker or built into the plastic? If it is the former it might just be a security thing if the stores implement it to keep people from walking out on a busy day or something.
Don't think about it though, it won't affect anything.

I took my sticker off and like you I wasn't sure if I should. I was wondering if it make it a little cooler (for some reason). I don't think it hurts anything but now that I think of it, maybe the extra tiny amount of space gone is contributing to my creeky back cover.

Maybe try putting some electrical tape on it? It will look fugly but like I said, who is going to see it under the battery cover?

Haha, it looks like a heat sink to me. I bet you did the wrong move because the battery does get hot and the sticker should be able to dissipate the heat. It's nothing to do with antenna reception I think because there is no metal connector directly connecting to the battery cover.
There is a contact id get its part of the antenna array.

But i think it's perhaps something like that.
To be more specific i don't want this aluminum or whatever it is stick on my battery the only way to find out is trying

Samsung should have done a back cover that extented through the whole phone's back, the bump in the lower part gets scratched very easily, am i the only one? and yeah i dont use a case on my phone, a cover plate destroys the slim figure of the phone
The "bump" on the bottom of the phone does actually get a lot of scratches

It's because of this I bought a "case-mate barely there" case.
I've never had a case before and didn't want one for this phone because I didn't want to loose the thinness either. Very glad I did though. The phone is still very thin and (on the black case) has a nice matt, slightly grippy texture which I personally find preferable to the standard backing.

Really didn't want to lose the thinness either, but this is an excellent protector - wish I'd bought it earlier.

Looks real good, but it's a little expensive, is it worth it?

Getting a decent case is the first step to protecting a phone that you just spend a lot of money on. It might make it a little less thinner, but it will offer better grip and allows you stop babying every time you set in the table.
As for the dude that broke the glass, that was probably like the one weak spot. GorillaGlass isn't supposed to scratch or crack. Just avoid putting the phone in the same pocket as your keys and you shouldn't need to waste money on a screen protector.
This thread is painful.

The Samsung official mesh case seems better quality than the case mate one.

gorilla glass is NOT scratch proof, keys won't damage the screen but dust will , the kind of dust/dirt that it's usually on people's pockets
I only ever keep it in a pocket without keys or anything else so never worry about a case.
The phone was on the floor next to my chair charging up while i was watching tv, knocked a fork off the coffee table and you guessed it, right on the phone.
No screen protector is gonna protect against that happening lol.
Everything is working fine actually. just feels a bit iffy when sliding over the long cracks in the glass.
Will be going in for new screen under insurance claim as soon as i been on my hols. so stuck with it like this for a few weeks.

So, I found the source of my battery drain over the last few days!
At first, I suspected that I had a bad flash for the CM9, because it started happening about the time I got the nightlies installed. After a few wipes, the battery drain continued to no avail. "Android OS" was consistently ~70%+ of my total battery usage by the end of the day.
I work in an office, and my phone has been randomly making this beeping sound that I couldn't put my finger on. It did it constantly. Again, I just assumed it was a problem with the ROM or the flash, so I didn't complain-- I signed up for bugs like that.
Then, yesterday, my NFC tags arrived. After several hours of having a blast playing with them, I had in my head the small beeping sound it makes when the phone picks up a nearby field but doesn't know what to do with the information. I thought nothing of it.
Today, back at work, I set my phone on my wallet (like I always do) and hear the sound. It instantly dawned on me: one of my debit cards use NFC negotiation! (Visa PayPass) I confirmed it right away by taking out the card and tapping the back of the phone-- there was that all-too-familiar sound.
LOL. For days, my phone has been picking up the NFC field inside my wallet. I couldn't believe it.
I thought I would share . You also never know who else out there is having the same thing happening to them.

I actually have a Faraday wallet (basically a normal wallet lined with tin foil). This will solve your problems. They're pretty cheap now, you can even make your own with duck tape and tin foil! I'd say its also a security must for anybody with nfc bank cards.

Are they really?
I have a faraday bag that i use for cell phone forensics and it looks to have clear finish in some places
Its effectivly a Faraday cage, after skimming took off people wanted to protect their cards, so they lined thier wallets with tin foil. Now professionally made ones are leather lined with cheaper as effective alloys.
I've made a duck tape one before, its easyto do (and cheap). I'll test its effectivness when I get home.
It can have holes of a certain size (smaller than the wave size).

nice...i have a somewaht similar issue with my wallet setting off metal detectors when i walk into stores. Wonder if it's related
They're ususlly not metal detectors, they're rfid scanners. A nfc card might intefere maybe if you're close enough?

Wait? they let you walk through the metal detectors with your wallet in your pocket? Most places require you to empty your pockets into a basket

I don't think he meant to say metal detector . He's talking about the RFID detectors that look for radio and/or magnet chips in stores.

i had a similar thing happen once for two months straight. Anti-theft strip from the harddrive packaging was stuck on the bottom side of the laptop sleeve in my bag and it was triggering the anti-theft alarm going in and out. I didn't notice it until i replaced the bag with another

Pardon the production values but I cannot scan a nfc enabled card in it. All you need it a roll of duck tape and a roll of tin foil. Just google how to make a duck tape wallet, there are some nice ones out there. Instead of just sandwiching the duck tape to duck tape, sandwich a piece of tin foil in between the two pieces of duck tape.
I was reading some threads people were getting scratches just laying it on a table and what not. i still have the plastic it came with, but now for me its coming off and i wont have a case here anytime soon.
How is your back holding up with you guys just keeping it naked? still crystal clear? i had an iP4 but it was always cased up.
Mine is good, but I also haven't put it to real world use yet. I will probably get a case whenever better options are available. I did just harder that Spigen screen protector though.

Yes and yes. I really hate cases. I see my phones as products I use. I never broke one, but a few had some little scratches. But hey, for me that's way better than a case.
The official bumper looks nice, but I still wont put in on my phone.

yea i feel the same way but due to the place i work at an automotive shop i keep my phone in my front shirt pocket. sometimes when i bend down it tends to slip out and i feel only thing that will protect that is a otter box or some sort of hard case.
Naked all the way. However i have always treated all my phones like my baby.

I am sternly against any protection for phones. I hate them. I don't pay hundreds of dollars for gadgets to hide them...lol
Just noticed a small scratch on the back of mine - it's very fine - probably from putting it down on a table.
I hate to think what it's going to look like in a few months. I'm going to take extra care from now on.

I'll put mine in a tpu case as soon as I can. If I keep it unprotected and life happens unexpectedly then I'd have to hide an ugly cracked back anyway. Either way I think it's funny when people criticize one another's choices when it comes to case/no case. To each their own!

Exactly.
I plan on keeping it in the silk bag my sunglasses came in until my best skins ever full body protector comes in. Haven't ordered a case yet, will probably order an androidified case soon tho.
Mine is naked. I've never liked cases or covers, but it is a very slippery device. It'll have to be a really nice looking case for me to cover my Nexus 4 up.

I have seen some magnets that attach to the case of a phone then connect to a metal plate on the car or one that connects to the vents of the car. Does anyone make one strong enough to securely hold the Nexus 4 with a heavy duty case?

Can you tell me the diameter of the circle that goes onto the back of the phone? The case I have for my Nexus 4 has circles on the back of it where the silicone skin sticks through.

I can't remember the exact sizes, but when I bought mine, it came with a few different-sized metal tabs, so you'd have a small variety to choose from.

Thanks for the excellent info. I ended up ordering the Xway, a single button to stick somewhere else, and I found an accessory pack with 6 more sticky magnets to place around!
I really need to stop buying stuff for my phone, but I swear it's addicting! :victory:

Yes, it looks like it sticks on with adhesive to the back of the phone.
Yes that is exactly how it works. The adhesive does not work on some cases so I have sometimes used crazy glue. I've tried a lot of systems for in car mounting and this is by far the best in my opinion.

X-Way is great for using vents as your mounting point, but if you want to mount it ANYWHERE you want, then get the FIX-WAY.
I have something simple and a lot cheaper, you might want to consider.

I never took off the protective back skin that came with the nexus, so I didn't mind sticking the magnet to the back of the phone. On top of that I use the Diztronic protective case covering the back of the phone. Since that case covers the entire back of the phone, it covers the magnet and you can't even tell I have the magnet on at all. the magnet still works great through the protective case and still extremely strong.

From the reviews it is larger, but stronger maybe. I ordered one in case I can use them together or the other one is not strong enough.

Does anyone know if applying the magnet directly to the back of the phone, will that STOP NFC from working?
I like the magnet idea but the location would disable inductive charging as well

The magnet does not but the metal plate on the back of the phone does break nfc. Check out this review by an n4 user:

There is a metal plate at the back of the phone or underneath the case....not a magnet...
Metal may have a better effect on inductive charging....rather than hampering it...but this is just my guess...it may disable inductive charging as well....
