[Q] High Res Panoramic shots

Is it possible to hack the resolution restriction on panoramic shots? Right now as is, the only allowed resolution is 640 x 480. I understand it would take a long time to process the shots if shooting at a higher resolution, but the low resolution is pretty much worthless.
Anyways, a higher resolution would be nice. Not necessarily the highest possible, but at least maybe the 2048 x 1536

I get instant panoramic photos at 2048x544 myself (sample attached). That's stitching shots taken while holding the phone in portrait orientation which is slightly better than holding it in landscape. Still, I would agree that software should be capable of stitching together the camera's higher-res source photos. It may take longer to process the additional detail but I could wait a minute or two for the occasional shot.

Well l meant that was the max resolution I could choose from, but when I take the shots I get a resolution of 2704 x 400 when taken in landscape and a resolution of 544 x 1888.
I'm hoping it is possible to select a higher initial resolution which then turns out to be a really big picture after the panoramic shot. No idea what resolution it would end up with, but maybe in the ballpark of 2048 x 6000 or similar

I really don't think they are always exact on this as I just tested out a pano shot and it came out at 2816x400.
It probably all depends on how you end up framing it, and how tightly it gets stitched.
I see what you mean with not being able to change the resolution. That would be nice.

I'm stuck at 0.3m which is 640x480 and pretty low resolution
A hack or something that could change it would be great because even though the pics turn out nice, its not as nice as it could be i don't think
I wouldn't mind a longer wait time for the stitch processing if it comes down to that

Doubt even the Vibrant would have the processing power to capture much higher res. That said, even at the low res, it's a pretty neat effect if done properly.

I totally agree...the 640x480 is worthless...I feel like I'm taking photos with my 10 year old Nokia....
I hope someone figures something out...I doubt there would be any processing power issues...

Has anyone tried seriously hacking/modifying any of the various Samsung camera apps to see if this could be changed?

Yeah, this bothered me too. My only work around was manually take the shots as best I could. Then use Canon sticher pro on my PC to attach them to one file.... Should have just brought my lunky DSLR.

If you don't need it on your phone (which means hi res matters), you can take a bunch of shots, and splice them together using Microsoft ICE. It works great.

my TX phone have 3 picture size, 13M, 9M and 2M. thi camera mode have SCN work only on 2M ,in stock 4.3 camera SCN worked on any picture size

Yes it does change with the actual camera app. Bro don't try it. Cause it ain't made for Xperia z5 64bit system sorry. If you any z-z3 phn or any other Xperia 32bit lollipop u can use this mod. Thanks. Keep in touch.

How to make the camera shoot 60 fps?

Perhaps someone knows the way, or will be able to make a mod similar to what is on mi5s (ported from motorola)

Root with Magisk, then add the module which enables RAW capablities, then install GCam. It can record at 60 fps

You can set it to 60 fps but it sadly does not record in 60 fps.

Slow motion has been working for Mi A1 for some time with modules that had been already created for it. People are asking here how to shoot normal video/not slow motion one with 60 fps. In GCam you can set it to 60 fps, but that's where it ends. The video is still being laggy and variable frame rate does not exceed 25/30 fps.

OK. This did not even work with Android 7.

works in Mi A1 w/ Oreo? (rooted/Magisc/camera2api/GCam)

U know when A device is capable of recording at 120 fps it can record at 60 fps also.
It is possible to record a normal motion video using Mi A1
all u need to have
* rooted Mi A1
* any custom ROM (I have not tested it on stock)
* stock camera slow motion mode running in background
* installed open camera app
for this go to settings in open camera
set frame rate at 120 fps
set video resolution at 720 p
open mi A1 or mi A2 stock camera and click on slow motion
hit the home button to put stock camera in the background
go to open camera and start recording video
it will record a smooth 60 fps video at normal motion (not slow motion)
this trick is working fine for me
only conns associated with this method are-
no EIS working in this video
video is of less resolution
not suitable for low light conditions
camera shoots in zoom in state

No it does not. it just has an option to record at 60fps. actually it records worse than 30 fps.
if ur gcam does record at 60 fps please check the frame rate in video properties (using MX player)
and if it truely records @60fps then please attach a video sample and do tell which ROM and Kernal combination are u using.

It does. I have checked in MX Player, it is showing 60. I am using Stock Rom + Extreme kernel with full overclocking(cpu at 2767MHz , gpu at 1100MHz). Some Media Profile Modifications in system.
Have a try.

Replace your system/etc files with these files with rw-r-r- permissions. Then reboot. If gcam app force closed, open video recorder by holding app icon in launcher with take a video option.

If your gcam still recording at 30fps . Open stock cam video recorder and close .Go back to Gcam and check .. Its working..

One of my relatives wants this phone, just want to make sure some of the phone's capabilities that reviewers often left out. For comparison, Redmi Note 5 Pro, the one that compared to this phone a lot, has Camera2 API support, but only if you edit the build.prop first (according to my friend that have it, I don't actually have that phone).
For me myself, I might will be still using my Mi 5s for foreseable future...

:highfive: Yeah, probably several years.
If me, it is me myself who are looking for this phone. RN5P still disabled the C2A, need (temporary) root to enable it. Same with this phone, if no C2A support out of box, at least we can enable it using the same method. But there is a rumour about major OTA update at 30 April. We expect to see a lot of improvement compared to the somewhat "beta" ROM from the media review unit. Let's hope to see the C2A has been enabled in this major update.

Haven't seen it anywhere yet. Only the 4K DCI/UHD and the 1080p has EIS already in the retail unit. The camera app seems will be updated tomorrow to support it. Hopefully, we can see the C2A support too in the next update.

Gcam will not work without camera api2 ! Let's wait and see...

Hope they will update to add support soon. Don't let the stock camera app be the limiting factor of image quality!

I hope someone comes with a GCam port for this phone. As far as what I tested, the phone's rear cam is quite good (except for very low light scenarios).
Also, the front cam desperately needs better balance in colors, dynamic range. Currently, selfie quality is quite decent, the colors are not accurate/natural even under good light (skin has a red tinge). And overall, brightness, noise level etc., could be tweaked a bit too.
Any suggestions for a different app that can bring out better photos out of the front cam??
