Has anyone from Canadian, bell or rogers carrier checked to see if their s4 are bootloader locked? Real curious on this thanks
Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk 2
In the Official Canadian thread here there was a poster whose wife got her hand on a GS4 and he said he'd get back to us sometime today about the bootloader. Until Rogers gets itself together and sends us our phones checking back there is our best bet.
I'm eagerly awaiting this info too. I'm spot #775 in line with Rogers and if it is locked I'll cancel my order before it ships.
If it is not locked, there is a chance we can flash I9505 ROMs.
Im verry curious also
As I confirmed in the Canadian thread, the Rogers/Fido version is BL locked
Lol... glad I didnt buy it.....better not happen on note 3

No, the 0x30 string turned out to NOT be the indicator.
You have to try the CF-Auto-root to see if it's bootloader locked (and even that may not work despite an unlocked bootloader depending on your firmware version). There's no confirmation yet at the moment.

Sure. But its certainly a growing trend. Carriers dont want people to tether without paying for it. So they lock the bootloader. Thats why we have XDA and other forums.

You can tether without paying in Canada just turn on your wireless hotspot.

We don't pay for tethering in Canada. We just get 3 year contracts instead of 2. I personally prefer free tethering and 3 year contracts, because after 2 years, we can usually work out a deal with our carriers for a subsidy if we resign.

A three year contract for a phone seems very crazy to me. But then again I dont like to have the latest gadget every year. But even for the general consumer I feel bad for signing a three year contract. 3 years between a new device is a long time.

It doesn't end up being a full 3 years per device though, we can work out deals after 2 years, although, most probably don't know that.
just answering the op the bootloader on any canadian i337m is unlocked...
Sent from my SGH-I337M using xda premium
The SGH-I337M is the same hardware as the SGH-I337 but has different QFuses configuration (Most likely FORCE_TRUSTED_BOOT not blown and a different RSA2048 PUB key set for the kernel checks, as I somewhat doubt Rogers and Telecel somewhat have a copy of AT&T's private RSA key, and obviously the base model name)
I have a Bell S4 and the bootloader is locked.

Wait what? As far as I know, all Canadian variants are bootloader unlocked. My Bell S4's bootloader is unlocked, I've got TWRP installed and so on.
I even sim unlocked it!

When I go in "ODIN" mode, it says in grey colour: WRITE PROTECTION: ENABLE
I had installed TWRP as well, but when I flashed a custom rom, the phone wouldn't boot up.
I had to download official ROM from samfirmware and flash it through ODIN and phone booted up.

Can anyone tell me where I can buy an unlock GSM version of the Galaxy Note 3 in the US with good customer service and full warranty of the phone.
I don't like buying from sellers on Amazon as if the phone fails, it might be really difficult to get warranty or return.
Last time I was able to buy the HTC One Unlock from HTC directly. But doesn't seem that Samsung has anything similar.
Thanks in advance

There are are a few places that I know have carried unlocked GSM phones in the past.Try www.negrielectronics.com or www.mobilecityonline.com or www.welectronics.com they should be able to get you what you want. I would also suggest getting a SquareTrade Warranty to cover it for damage since it will be pricey.
I can vouch for Negri Electronics, I've bought a GSM unlocked Galaxy S3 from them before. Does anyone know if there is a GSM unlocked version that works with AT&T LTE? Would really like to keep my unlimited data plan on AT&T. Thanks.
There will be options, but pretty much guaranteed that it will be an international version. Hence no LTE support..
ATT has been locking down the bootloader s recently and now the knox... No more development for ATT devices....

I know, that's why I'm avoiding an AT&T branded device like the plague. I will even give up LTE if I have to. Much rather have a developer friendly device. Thanks.

There are 2 international versions, a 3g (exynos chip) and a 4g (s800) version.
So they is LTE support.

Most prbly by unlocked they mean Sim unlocked-you can use it on another carrier. I highly doubt that the bootloader is unlocked that if its the At&t version.

Hello there,
Need your advise guys before buying Note 3. (I own Note 2)
- I am thinking about getting this phone from buymobiles.net cos the deal is better than directly from 3 (£120 for handset + 24x£30) and also I need an unlocked phone.
3 says they start providing 4g next month. The phone is 4g ready - does it mean, I can use it with 3 now (3g only) and next month when they switch to 4g?
- I know there are 2 types of processor, which one is the most common on xda regarding cooking and how to check it if I order the phone by phone or website, please?
- any tips about buying this phone, is there anything I should know before buying pls?
Cheers

3 don't do unlocked phone if you want unlocked you have to go to Phones4u or carphone warehouse
Not really, I purchased my note 2 from buymobiles. Net on 3uk network, the phone was unlocked, I asked a few times before ordering

Phone 4 u don't deal with 3 anymorr and carphonewarehouse deals are expensive
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
You may be better off getting the carrier-locked phone from 3 and unlocking it, rather than going for a SIM-free phone from Carphone Warehouse or Phones 4u which are all regionally locked. This is because the network carrier unlock is better understood, can be unlocked by the carrier without involving Samsung and is less susceptible to unilateral change than Samsung's opaque regional lock. As it is, Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4u cannot unlock the regional lock on Samsung phones (ie Note 3, new S4s etc) which they sell and Samsung are refusing to do so.
An unofficial unlock of a regionally locked phone is always going to stand out if Samsung has never agreed and never will agree to release the regional lock associated with the sales code/IMEI of the regionally locked phone. The risk is that Samsung will have ways to reapply the regional lock on such a phone. I am not sure I would want to risk Samsung seeking to reapply its regional lock and would rather take my chances with a carrier lock and getting that unlocked instead.
Thank you for some useful information.
Can I easily unlock a phone locked to 3UK?
Is it expensive?
Are you sure that the locked phone from 3UK or any other provider doesn't have a regional lock?
Can the phone have both locks?

I have not tried it but reports are of unofficial network unlocks costing around $20 and being quite easy to obtain. Whether 3 would do it for a long-standing customer I have not explored. 3 might well require its use for a period before 3 would consider unlocking it themselves.

A determining factor for the inclusion of a regional lock seems to be the "sales code" of the phone. If you buy a phone from a 3 store then it is likely to be branded and have the sales code H3G. The sale code H3G has in the CSC a carrier NetworkLock for 23420 and 23594, both of which I believe are "3" networks in GB. There seem to be no other NetworkLocks in the H3G systems/csc/customer.xml file, either for network or regional lock.
If you buy the phone from a general retailer like Carphone Warehouse or Phones 4u and the phone is unbranded then the phone may well have the regional lock in it. This seems to be the case even if it is being bought with a contract to a network like Vodafone or 3. You would be able to see it has a CSC like N9005OXABMJ3 - dial *#1234# in stock dialler to see version of CSC.
Not yet seen any example where there is both a regional lock and a carrier lock in the same CSC.
Hey all, I looking to replace my Moto Razr Maxxx -From verzion with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 9005

I'm looking to purchase a used Note 3 9005 of ebay is there anything i need to know or look out for?

im looking to do the same as you. unlimited data subscriber not giving that up. im on ebay myself and there are a few moderately priced. i was looking into the carrier unlocked ones. now correct me if im wrong, but CARRIER unlocked doesnt mean the same as BOOTLOADER unlocked. as in im not finding a golden opportunity here to get the same as the $700 dev edition for a steal, im just confused.....
even if i am wrong, whats weird is some of the carrier unlocked ones say itll work on any carrier, but then it says it doesnt support 3g....
so does that mean when i venture the country roads im screwed? because there isnt 4g there....
Gotta be careful cause you are on Verizon, they use different bands to the SM-N9005. I believe you guys would require an SM-N900(V?) - eBay is a minefield when it comes to Note 3s currently due to KNOX issues, or just general fakes and scammers.
My advice is buy one direct from a store, cause eBay is risky right now and if you have a knox triggered model. You have no warranty cover

Hi,
Looking for some advise here.
I want to buy a Note 3 for use outside of the US.
Lack of research led me to purchase a Sprint variant which was internationally locked and is now a lovely brick on my desk.
Is there any model that I can purchase straight off of ebay that is internationally unlocked?
Thanks in advance guys!

I bought mine from amazon. It is a N9005 LTE international version region unlocked.
Look for the amazon description that says it. You cannot get LTE in USA though.
Mine came without the "region lock" sticker so I assume it is not locked.

Just ask the vendor to uncheck the reactivation lock on the phone or you can`t boot it up (enter sim code) after a wipe cause it asks you for a password (Samsung account of the former owner).

It will take more than that.. the international lock is set by the service provider.. in the case of Sprint.. as with the phone I bought.. the phone has to be active on their service for 6months and in good standing for them to do the international unlock.
As it is now.. it's locked to US domestic networks only... I can sim unlock and root etc.. but I won't recognize any sim outside of the US.
I'm not sure of any of the service providers have their phone internationally unlocked by default.. I was told Verizon's phones are internationally unlocked.. but haven't been able to get confirmation on that.
