I FOUND OUT THAT DIRECT TOGGLES FOR 3G TO 2G NOT WORKING on nexus 4
is there any app that supports quick toggle between 3g to 2g?
and i would like to use that plugin or app with tasker to switch to 2g while screen if off and 3g while screen on
dont want to install cm i know its available in that rom
i am on Stock rom with franco's kernel
Right now I am using this because of:
- It is free
- Good customization
- Very good look!
It doesn't have the option to swich to 2g when screen is off. For that, you have this

3G has become the clearest battery drain outside of screen usage, so I'm desperately looking for an app to shut it off when I travel for my Droid. I know that for some reason this could not be developed for Verizon like other networks because of the CDMA network, but I would imagine that a solution could be developed for rooted users since getting a Wifi signal essentially turns off 3G while still allowing for texts and calls? Could the phone be tricked into thinking it has connected to a Wifi signal? I'd pay for an app like this and I think others would too....
Go to the dialer and enter: *#*#INFO#*#*
Then go to Phone Information. Then scroll down to where it says "Set preferred network type:" and change it from CDMA auto (PRL) to CDMA only.
try juice defender in the market. it basically turnes off 3G while the phone is locked saving a ton of battery life! when you unlock the phone it turnes 3G back on! only problem is it takes a little while sometime for 3G to kick back on... but you could enable the juice defender when you want and disable it when you dont need the extra batttery life! give it a try! its free so if ya dont like it you can just get rid of it!
You can also use Quick Settings which among the other settings you can quickly change allows you to disable the use of 3G. It works great on my Milestone.
Or you could use APNDroid (on the market too). It has a widget to manually switch on/off the 3G net, but still allowing to use the phone/text.

Your milestone is GSM. Quick settings does not work for CDMA phones.
To the OP, use the widget called Easy Switch. It does 3G and GPS (among other things) with the click of the button. It doesn't take you to an options menu, it just works.
+1 on APNDroid. Simple and just works.
Another option for droid is cyanogen6. I know rc2 has 3g on/off built into droids power control widget.

use cynaogen...u can turn off 3g in there
Hi,
I've an un-branded and not rooted Desire (Froyo) and I would like to know if there's an app that would allow me to turn the 3G "on" when I turn de the data connexion "on".
When the data connexion is "off", I would like to stay in 2G.
I hope I'm clear enough, thank you!
Ok this should happen anyway unless your phone is set to WCDMA only in which case it's set to 3g all the timeif it's set to GSM & WCDMA it will switch between 2 and 3g as you wish.
Yes but what if I want it to be connected to 2G all time (when phoning or stand by for example) and connected to 3G when using data (without having to do it manually)?
CM7 allows that through "its" power management widget but is there a possibility to use such an app on Froyo?
Well...no.
Tasker maybe, There is an option for 2g/3g switching, I haven't tested it myself though just a suggestion!

This option is unavailable on some phones (like my DHD )
This one here works fine. Although with cyangogen mod. You might just get lucky if it works for you

Is there a way I can make the Atrix use 2G only, to save battery? I can't seem to find the option in settings like it is for other phones.
Cm7 has this option

Alien too...
Sorry I didn't clarify - I am talking about stock.
Then you can enter *#*#4636#*#* on the dialer and choose 'phone options' . Then select GSM only(prl) . That should give you 2g only.

well theres roms that enables it to switch to 2g and 3g. Any of them. But there is a thread that changes that and you can pick from either one.

I have tried the #*#* method, cm7 and alien. While all three will show the option to change them they won't stick. I'm using alien v4 and have 2g only checked and rebooted yet I still get 3G and H logos on my status bar as well as 3g speeds when sending mms, web browsing, ect. I believe this has more to do with AT&T than the Atrix itself as AT&T began phasing out their edge network a few months back.
I used the* #* method before I was even rooted, and it worked just fine. Edge is not really 2g, more 2.5g so AT&T phasing out their Edge network shouldn't really influence this.
Sure you set it to gsm only and not gsm auto?
The Defy has it as standard, and that's essentially the Atrix's little brother in my eyes.
This is a little off topic, but is related some how... but..
Its becoming apparent to me that among some users the automatic assumption that the solution is to either flash a custom rom to fix a simple thing like this or that the user is using a custom rom.
Some of us are stock users, even though we are on a forum orientated at development and customisation, so please do not assume?
From memory Widgetsoid allows you to add a 2g/3g widget to your screen to enable / disable 3g. Tasker & Locale should be able to do it as well depending on conditions (e.g. battery <30%)
I know this is one app we can try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739530#
But it can't disable switching while do tethering. Can we have this flexible function that we can customize from Settings menu?
I noticed our SGSIII can switch off and on WIFI when the screen on and off. It's good if our SGSIII already have the function what I want and it good enough to now what we do when the screen off, it will not switch to 2G when we do tethering and downloading.

If network idle, it 's will auto down to 3G umts or HPDPA to keep the battery life.
1 hour with auto sync-> 1-1.5%
2g can save battery ?i think not so much with network online.

As I remember correctly AOKP has this feature under their powersaving settings. From what I can tell from my I9000 I always lost mobile data connection entirely when turning screen back on... took 10-60 seconds to get an active 3G data connection again. That kinda really pissed me off cuz it is very likely you need your internet connection when pulling the phone out and turning the screen on ... and in that case having no connection really sucks.
So I never used that option (besides using manual 2G limitation if wanted).

Thanks for the info. My home town just have 2G connection. I think it's better if it directly connected via 2G, rather than the phone continuously searching 3G line.
I upgraded my phone a couple of days ago and only noticed today there's no way of turning off 3G which is something new with Kit Kat.
In all iterations of Jelly Bean I could select 2G or 3G which was useful as most of Lincolnshire UK is rural and has a just about usable 2G network and 3G is practically no existent apart from in the large towns and cities.
What I noticed with Jelly Bean was that if I left it on 3G all the time it would kill the battery but leaving it on 2G improved the battery greatly.
Given now that Goggle have either decided that everyone has access to a 3G network and doesn't need the 2G switch anymore or have greatly improved the battery management when 3G is selected leaves me with a potential problem with battery life.
I will know over the next few days if the battery is still draining more quickly than previously when 2G was selected but in the meantime does any one know a way of switching of the 3G and only selecting 2G?
Thanks
Jon
I noticed this too and you are right staying on 2g will improve battery. You could install an app like tasker which will allow you to change to 2g, search the play store for 2g switchers or you could install a custom ROM like cataclysm which has a 2g/3g quick tile

How about the old classic. *#*#4636#*#* select phone info then choose gsm only.

Are you using stock KitKat 4.4 ROM? I am using PSX KitKat ROM and it has 2G and 3G in Network Mode. You might want to flash the custom ROM for the options.
Or just use the dialer code I posted...
