Otterbox for Nexus 4 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've always been wondering if an otterbox will come out for the nexus 4.
Does anyone know when or if it will ever be released? Thank you

They've said they had no plans, so I wouldn't hold your breath. Never know, maybe someone should start a petition. ..

I saw a petition on change.org
Its really close to being done, after it reaches it's goal will otterbox rethink about making one?

Blackberry? F*** you!
But I doubt otterbox would make one even if the petition is signed.

Not really. Vanilla android phones always have the best community. On topic though, seidio and ballistic (I may be missing the third) make cases similar to the OtterBox. There are tons of other accessories to look into as well.

This case is the closest to the Otterbox commuter that I have found. It's a great case and I have no complaints. I usually buy the Otterbox commuter for all of my phones.

This looks great!

The funny thing? Otterbox had no problem making one for the Dell Streak(yeah, I had one back in the day) but a phone selling way more plus carrier distribution is having this much of a problem getting one?
I've always had one for the majority of my phones whenever I could get one. This is a changer, not doing this phone.

The plastic back is very similar to Diztronic Matte Black hardshell, which is a little rubbery to touch. The rendered pictures make the case look sleek which it definitely is not. In fact there is very little difference between the hardshell and the silicone part of the case to touch or to look at until you dig in your fingernail. It's just that the silicone part attracts lint and hard part gets a little smudgy. But the overall fit, feel and finish of the case is excellent.

Zagg invisibleshield for s3 horrible

I got flamed for asking about a screen protector. Just wanted to warn everyone not to waste your money. They should call this a orange peel shield. I never felt so cheated in many life. And yes I installed it correctly.

I stopped using the Zagg screen protectors a while ago the quality seemed to be getting worse. On my S3 I installed a Skinomi screen protector and it came out perfectly.

Zagg is garbage imo. Skinomi is nice and SGP too.

Zagg is horrible. They all feel like they were dragged through sand before shipping out.
yeah, this was my first time using zagg, i needed something right away and that was the only one i could find in store yesterday.
I had a Zagg on my Captivate. And I know what you mean about the orange peel effect. It made using Swype really interesting. But honestly after like 2 weeks the skin totally smoothed out. The same one is still on that Captivate and my daughter is using it 23 months later and it still looks good. I probably won't ever buy one again but to be fair they do have a long break-in period.
I have Skinomi, came out perfect.
Zagg actually advertises the orange peel as a feature, not the drawback it actually it. "Gives more grip!" ugh

Think its suppose to be their anti glare feature...either way I avoid Zaggs whenever possible.
Yeah haven't used zagg since my iPhone 3GS days. One day I left my phone on top of my car and the material prevented it from sliding off after being on the road for around 5 miles (never went over 50 though). The same material made it way to labored to use the touch screen though....
The Skinomi screen protector is really cheap on Amazon right now:
http://www.amazon.com/Skinomi-TechS...=1340480601&sr=1-1&keywords=galaxy+s3+skinomi
It says normally it's $11.95. Right now it's $0.99
I'm using the Moshi iVisor AG. This one you can peel off and wash when it gets dirty. So far, so good. Feels pretty good as well.
I'm not a Moshi fan. It ruins the screen clarity.

Meh. The older Zaggs were better, and i've still got 2 that can fit a 4.3, maybe a 4.5. I'll probably use them if i ever decide to get a smaller phone- the S3 is a tad bit too large for my tastes.
Try these.

Somebody in the One X forum was raving about them so I ordered them. I put them on today and they really are incredible. I would challenge anyone to detect a screen protector was on my phone. I've used Zagg's and these are thinner, not draggy to the touch, and have no orange peel. They are wet apply and were pretty easy to get on correctly. And the One X is a ***** because of all the angular cuts it has on the sides. It also comes with protection for the camera lens. Mine's curing but I'll post pics of it on a grey phone for you pebble blue people when it's set.

Holster case

I was wondering if anyone knows of a case / holster combination. I am very disappointed in the selection in accessories for such an awesome phone.

There is the amzer one, as well as seidio has a couple. Highly recommend the seidio, kind of expensive but worth it.

Best bet would be Seidio.
I use a Seidio Surface holster with a cruzerlite xda case. The Seidio Active case works as well, but I think works for thicker cases.
There is the French handcrafted leather case "norêve", which is quite expensive (around 50€), but it is a high quality case, so you pay what you get. They have immediate shipment for some models, or you can choose a personalised one which takes some time since they have to make it.
there are a lot of cheap belt clip cases on ebay, if that's what you mean.
they are good but they wear out quickly with rough handling. eg. this is what i use:

Can you post some pics on that combination? I have seidio active for my htc Sensation so I don't want another case/holster from them (they all look the same). Though, I absolutely need a belt holster cuz these phones are is too big and uncomfy for my pocket. I was thinking of a clear back tpu and seidio holster

The sensation holster will fit the N4 naked. It's too small to have the N4 fit with any type of case. Before the N4 surface and active holster and cases were released, I bought a Gnex Seidio Surface holster and that fit with the diztronic ultra thin shell, but that left the top and bottom parts of the bezel exposed.
I have the Seidio Surface spring holster made for the Nexus 4. Here's a pic of it with my XDA Cruzerlite case, any slim tpu cases will fit really:

Thanks for the pics and the info!!! I placed the order for a 16gb but my guess is that it won't even get here for another week or two (hopefully not any longer) .. that combination looks very nice and I like the xda case you got. Someone else posted a pic active holster with OEM bumper and it seems like a snug fit too. Now I can't decide

I've had the OEM bumper twice over lol. First when I got the phone, sold it, got it again when it came in stock (sold it again lol). I do like the bumper but it's just TOO wide for me to hold and I fear I may drop the dang phone with it on lol. That's why I personally opted to go the tpu route. It's really what you prefer and then decide how to go about getting the right "parts" to make your own holster.
I jz saw a seidio active on eBay for $38/including shipping and ordered one. I guess I will wait for both to come in to see how big and bulky they are before I look at alternative.

Oh really? then we should start making cars completely of plastic if thats the case.
Before the SGS4 was announced they explained why they used plastic which should have been a clue that the SGS4 was going to be similar to all their previous devices. Don't like plastic? There are plenty of glass and metal options available. Since the SGS4 will be around for at least another 15 months *****ing that it's plastic is pretty futile. And everyone considering a SGS4 can either choose to deal with it or not. Rather than complaining, vote with your wallet and buy something else.

I just don't really feel like dropping a piece of plastic and having the thing shatter into million of pieces. A little unrealistic I know, but really? I don't care if they thing plastic does the best job, it obviously doesn't. It scratches, it's breakable. Sure HTC didn't do the best job of it either, but at least they used something that feels good/amazing in the palm of your hand.

I think they didn't want to update the look so people can familiarize with the brand better. People are beginning to recognize the Galaxy s3, and it will be easier for people to know the phone if it keeps a similar design. Sure, it could've looked a little more premium for once, but it's the software that's the most important, and they did a decent job with improvements and gimmicks that actually seem to work.

Not if it comes at the expense of microSD and battery *cough HTC*cough*.
I reaaaaaaaaaaally dont get all the plastic hate, most people place their phones in cases anyway, especially if they are made out of leet materials like glass or the fancy-peeling One S aluminium, which is even more stupid.
My GS3 survived w/o a case for almost a year now btw, and because those "cheap plastic" back covers are so uhh.. cheap, I can replace them anytime for minimal cost, I actually have 4 custom back covers just for variety.
Oh and I should have added "Power Button on the side" to OP as another pun at HTC but w/e.
Who here doesn't use a protection case on their phone? Plastic is perfect. What most people forget is plastic is perfect for a phone with removable battery.

If people hate the back cover, why not just buy a new one?

I mean seriously a plastic back cover is stopping some people from buying the phone? You know what you can do is buy a metal replacement back cover or what ever one you want and just take the existing one off and put the new one on in 5 seconds.
I don't understand the complaining here, if you don't like that glossy back... buy one you do like!

You can probably even replace the back cover with an aluminium one, so no need for a case.
The criticism on back cover is just ridiculous. I mean most of us put the back cover all the time, so why bothering for it. The thing that matter most is the screen and software

Don't forget battery life & processor
What I hate about a metal or glass phone is you have to be careful with it and suddenly the phone becomes horrible to use because you're always scared of scratching. So you get a case and it makes the phone twice as big and way uglier than the GS4 is by default.
With the plastic back cover, it covers the whole rear of the phone that it sits on, so it does it's job properly. Unlike the GS2 which has that big bump at the bottom which is the bit that gets scratches and you cannot replace easily. So you can scratch the **** out of the back of the GS4 and it doesn't matter cause you just buy a new one for a fiver off ebay. The other thing I love is I bent my GS2 back cover in half and it just sprung back and was fine, I'm guessing the GS4 is the same material.
Almost every smartphone owner I know has a case on their phone. Metal body of phones never see the light of the day.

Seriously though, I'm sure there will be better non metal back covers. One disadvantage of metal back covers is the loss of signal and NFC.

It's not most people it's just loud people, most people don't see a phone as symbol of their status and thus just want their phone made of an efficient material, you can get a Ho in the UK for around £26 pm roughly £2.50 a week more than you can get a Samsung Ace on contract, where's the perceived status in a phone an unemployed person could easily afford.

Sweet! That with a built-in wireless charger will do it for me!

[Q] How do you keep your Nexus 4 protected?

What do you use?
Just a screen protector, bumper case, a full case, or do you go commando?
I went to ninja school.

I'm using a ringke slim case (highly recommend it if you want a case that absorbs shock and doesn't add too much thickness to your phone) and a screen protector, seems to do the job well so far.
Poetic Bumper case, I feel bumper cases in general are working as well, or maybe better than the other cases. I mostly went with the bumper case because I wanted to be able to see the back of the phone shine.

In order to achieve rear sexiness of my Nexus 4 I have the ringke fusion hybrid case with a white dbrand carbon fiber skin showing through. It's oh so sexy with no fingerprints showing and better protection than a bumper

no case. they spent millions on R&D to get a phone as small and thin as possible, I'm not gonna cover it in cheap plastic or w/e and bulk it back up
always same soft lined pocket, either zippered or tight opening like on jeans. nothing else in same pocket. screen side always towards body.
if in environment with decent chance of water being spilled on pocketed area (beach), phone put in small ziploc baggie
if in environment with decent chance of getting smacked on pocketed area (hiking), phone put in thick sock
never have damaged a phone to date
Official bumper.
It isn't too ugly or bulky, so it's bearable.
I intended to use Skinomi screen protector and TPU case like I have done with my previous phones.
I like my n4 just the way I like my woman, naked.

I have a Poetic Atmosphere and a front screen protector (the back has the stock one with the IMEI). The Poetic Atmosphere is not high quality because the rubber part in the volume rocker is now loose.
All around Wallet case...
