Hello all. So I just got my new nexus 4 and the only issue I'm having is the same many others are having-the volume.
Ive tried all the mods available, none work. When the phone is on speaker the volume is horrendous.
What I have not heard is people talk of switching the speaker to the one I listen to when talking on the phone, by the ear?
I've seen this topic on other forums, but not for this phone.
Is this a possiblilty? The ear speaker is LOUD and crystal clear. So is is possible to switch all sound to come out of that speaker?
Or what about the possibility of switching the actual speaker out for one that performs better?

This has been covered before in the dell streak forum (which I've been reading for days now) but the thread died a death!
I've tried wiggling the phone around when its on my ear, wire head set, sennheiser headphones. I haven't tried a BT headset because I don't have one and I don't intend to either! It always sounds like the other end has a towel wrapped round their face while their talking to me...
They (O2) have sent me another one and that does it too... A few days back I was talking to a guy on orange and I have a few moments of perfect clarity so Occam's Razor would say "Loose wire "!!!
My query is this:
Is there a setting I missing, maybe in engineering mode or something. Does anyone know if the phone has some kind of audio muting/limitation software on it???
To be honest, I'm using my old Moto V3 at the moment because the dell sounds so very bad!
Edit: Just tried a BT headset, sounded clearer but so quiet I could hardly hear it
I have a US streak...currently in UK on buisness. I have been jumping between O2, Orange, and 3-Uk networks. I can honestly say that the streak in terms of call quality has been one of the best mobile phones Ive owned. I have not tried earpiece or bt Headset, but volume 0utput at least with the earphone jack is very low.
Running Eclair 2.1 build6941....Call quality State side is crystal clear as well on ATT
I get crystal clear call quality on the receive end, but have had to adapt to holding the mic away from my mouth a bit. It was breaking up quite badly according to my mate who was on the other end of the call (happened a few times). I accidentally moved the mic a few inches further from my mouth and it all went clear apparently! So is the gain set too high on the built in mic?
On bluetooth in my car its clear on Rx AND Tx but that's using a separate mic. The main issue there is that the Rx volume is much too low
Best call quality i've had in a phone so far tho
I've had no issues with call quality, always been crystal clear stateside on ATT.
Only issue i have is that you have to find a sweet spot for the earpiece to direct the sound into your ear, move it a little off and sound is too low. wierd but gotten used to it and know how to hold it up to my ear better then when i first got it
also i only tried one nokia BT headset and the sound was very low! I have 3 or 4 headsets laying around but haven't tested them out yet.
From Day one i have been trying to get good earphones with Mic for nexus 4
tested out more than 6-7 quality earphones with mic like J6M, Klipsh, etc
but the microphone volume on the other end of call is too less compared to apple ear phones( recently switched from iphone)
I have to keep the mic piece really close to my mouth for a good conversation...
can someone help me here.. the mic on nexus 4 works perfect but when i connect earphones the problem begins... i used mic sensitivity apps to test and they pick very less volume from the connected mic
How do i boost the mic sensitivity on earphones or should i return the phone
Will try with my skullcandy's and revert

I'm having the exact same problem - did you find a fix?
I tried quite a few.. expensive as well as cheap ones. finally i got hold of a cheap ear phone set and the volume to the other end is good to be heard (as I have been reported).. While trying them all, I was calling my friend and asking him.. so thats how I know i picked the best one. However, since it extremely loud.. i kinda have to keep it away from my ear a bit and volume on phone is turned down to minimum.. Plus, due to its sheer loudness, I can hear the buzzing sound.. For the first time i noticed it, i.e.: through these extreme loud ear phones. The other party hears it too. Never heard it while on call directly using the ear piece. Strange.

Do you mind me asking which brand headphones you are referring too here? I have the same issue.
I bought from a local shop. It was a knock off of beats audio. The sounds it throws is EXTREMELY loud.
Is it just me, or does the OP make very little sense? I'm completely lost at what he's trying to ask.. Something about the mic? or the sound output of the "earbuds"?
No trouble here with any of the wired earbud sets I've tried. Clear as a bell and no buzzing.
If its so Loud for you, what are you not adjusting the volume? Would kinda of make sense to do so...
Or you could upgrade in your tech and get a bluetooth earbud.. I have absolutely no problem with volume levels from my Jawbone; I'm hear clearly and I can hear them just find (even when driving with all windows down, it sounds like they are right next to me yelling)

Nope, it's you. OP was referring to the mic volume on the headset being low, but in filthykids response, he mentioned that the headphones that solved the quiet mic is also very loud on the earpieces.
Also having the same problem, BTW.
Hi all,
I want to keep this simple and short as possible.
Galaxy S4 I9500 -32GB. Android 4.2.2 with the 400 mb update installed.
Ear Speaker has faint, but somewhat annoying tinny/crackle noise.
Loud Speaker even more so, extremely bad at high volume.
Tried movies, no crackle from loudspeaker.
Tried music, no crackle from loudspeaker.
Tried other phones on same network, no crackle/distortion noise.
*I need to mention that it does not really sound like distortion, but more like poor DAC or compression?
*This crackle/tin/mild distortion only seems to occur during voice calls.
I've only had the phone for 3 days now, I need to know if this is a software issue or is it OBF?
I could say i'm being fussy about the ear speaker, but for a brand new phone at this price; it's unacceptable.
Should I install Android 4.3?
Thanks a lot
Hey everyone,
My 6P seems to buzz like crazy when I play anything at max volume. Is this a defect? The speakers are still loud and clear but buzz like crazy when I'm around the last 2-3 notches of the volume slider. Obviously loud speakers can cause resonant vibrations but this seems kind of excessive and with everyone talking about how great the speaker quality is I can't help but think that some thing may be up. I'm coming from HTC One (M8) Boomsound speakers and my impression from the 6P's are that they really aren't that great.
I'm having similar issues. I notice it easily when changing ringtones or notification tones. I wonder if this a problem with a gain setting or a QA issues affecting a small number of phones. I'm on MDA89D build.
I had a buzzing speaker problem too then I looked at the EQ on my google music and for some reason it was set funny. I flattened out the EQ to take some bass out and now it doesn't buzz.
The problem actually occurred more with games rather than music. I RMA'd and things appear to be all good now.
Heya, so I always wanted to use AOSP roms on my S7 edge since i bought this device but I always had this 1 little problem that makes me go back to Samsung stock. The call audio being too loud while wearing headphones. Is there anyway I could fix this? I tried changing some things in the mixer_paths.xml but that made no difference in the audio levels (I probably changed the wrong values). Note that I put the volume on the lowest and it is still too loud. I also noticed how some people are complaining that it's NOT too loud which is confusing.
Thanks a lot!
