[Q] LED notifications on Samsung GT-S7710 (XCover 2) - Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 Questions & Answers

Hi everybody
Just bought this and I m quite happy with it. Only thing I noticed so far, I don't get any blink notifications (i.e. like when you have a missed call, a newly received SMS etc).
Most android devices I ve come across offer that functionality....
I don't care about whether its red, blue, white or pink - but does this XCover 2 have a built-in LED notification at all? Or is it that mine is defective? Or do I need to enable it via the OS somehow? (I haven't installed any 3rd party apps for hadling LED notifications - nor I m interested in doing so...)
Anybody owning this phone - please share your thoughts...
Cheers

Never mind, actually Samsung got back to me first.
They told me there is no LED notification on 7710 XCover. Pitty. It was cool, and useful feature

A bit annoying alright. It does vibrate really strong though.

[Q] How do I turn of the notification led?

The impact on battery life should be absolutely minimal. It blinks when a application sent a notification with a LED-request to the phone. Usually, you can turn this off in the application in question.
For example, Gmail lets the LED blink green when a new E-mail was recieved, Twidryod lets it blink blue. In both programs, you can deactivate the LED-notification in the settings of the program.
None of my apps (incl gmail) have any LED options, and I've never seen the LED flash at all. Not for calls, sms, email or anything.
Could be under sound, pulse notification light?

One hand & notification led

How difficult is it to use the phone with one hand?
On a Milestone, I always press the search button by accident, so I'm a little concerned.
And how do you guys cope with the fact that there's no notification led? I've tried using noled on Milestone (just to test it out) and I hated it.
I haven't found the lack of an LED to be that irritating. It vibrates every so often if you haven't checked for a notification anyway.
I haven't had any issues with using it one handed either. The buttons seem to stop you pressing them if you're interacting with the screen -- say typing for example.
one hand use if fine for me.
never had a phone with led notification on it so it doesnt bother me.
would be nice though .. one feature i miss from nexus one is the led flashing differnt colors for missed calls, messages , facebook, etc. etc.
I have an omnia HD
as you know there is no notification led at all and its just fine..
besides you have no idea how that tiny little led is power consuming... you may think its not and its a led but the power consumption goes up a few % killing your battery a little faster...
anyway only today I'll recieve the sgs2 so just then I will report about 1 hand..

I had no problems with the fact that there is no led. Why? Simple: whenever I LOOK at the phone I always PICK IT UP and unlock it. Just one button press. There is usually a bunch of unread gmails, yahoo mails, company emails, SMSs, texts, and push notifications from facebook, twitter, etc; plus a bunch of missed calls and voice mails that I do not care about. There is just SO MUCH TO CHECK that I can't imagine any simple light that would tell me anything I need to know and would eliminate the need to actually unlock the phone and look at the screen. A light worked well IMHO with dumb phones where the only events the phone could react to were a missed call , a VM and a SMS.
I miss having an led.
There is an app called noled on the market which is a decent replacement though.
1-handed operation is fine. Only 3 buttons and no search button!
Thanks, guys!
I do know there's no search button. I was just afraid I'm going to press the rightmost one (in this case the back button, of course) when I'm reaching for left top corner with one hand. Anyway, hopefully it will be fine.
I really wish it had notification LED. I'm a music major, so when I practice, I put my phone on the piano, and very often I cannot hear the alert or feel the vibration. So, notification LED is really important to me. I can only hope that BLN works, I guess.
Seriously; what's the care about this LED?
BLN is coming soon if it's hasn't come already - having the capacitive buttons light when there is a notification is terrific.
I miss the LED too -- I'm now using NoLED. Works well. Only issue is that it seems to buypass Widgetlocker.

LED Notification Light Not Working

Does any else have a issue with their LED Notification Light not working?
No light when charging, or SMS, or Email, Missed Call, Low Battery... never lights up. Almost thought they forgot to install the LED until I used LightFlow to test it. And even then it only works when the screen is off, once the power button is pressed to turn the screen on then LED goes off, even though I set LightFlow to clear notification Manually. (LightFlow was just used to test if the LED was installed/functional.)
Uninstalled LightFlow, send myself a couple test emails and text(from another phone) and There was no LED notification light, just the notification sound.
Really hoping this is a software issues so I don't have to request a replacement device from Google...
Edit/Update: I'm pretty sure this is a software related issue and not hardware, as the LED is there and functions (with the help of 3rd party app, which we should not have to use) - So I'm trying to get a poll here of how many people have issues with the LED Notification light not working. Something to report to Google/Bug Report.

I believe the reason is that the software has not been updated to be completely compatible with 4.2+

What software are you referring too? LightFlow?
This topic has nothing to do with LightFlow...

Mine doesn't work either. I tried LightFlow and while it did light up the LED for some things, but not all that I selected, it was too faint to see, have to be in total darkness to see it.
The led isn't supposed to flash when the screen is on. Its been this way with every nexus.

But does your LED work when the screen is off? Mine and the OP's don't unless you use a third party app.

Is the Notification Light activated under display settings?
Mine worked, but not really well, I only saw it once when sending myself a test mail. Now I'm using Light Flow, which works nearly perfect (sometimes it doesn't seem to work until I enable the screen for a second and then disable it again)

Pulse notification light is checked
Im having the same problem. My led doesnt seem to come on no matter what. I know it worked out of the box because I have seen it light up with light flow but now im wondering if it quit completely and if I should do an RMA.
Mine has been working fine. It's white for TXT's, green for a lot of other things like FB and whatsapp
Yes the "Pulse notification light" option is checked.
I woke today with 6 New emails, 4 text messages, and 1 missed call... No LED Notification light was on, blinking or doing anything.
There not being a notification light is bugging the heck out me, 'cause I depend on them when my phone is on silent at work so I'm able to know there is a message waiting without having to stop what Im doing to turn the screen on every 5 min.

Try 'Blink'
Try the app 'Blink' very simple and its works for my N4
are you waiting 10 seconds before turning the phone on? Thats how long it takes before it blinks again. Whoever programmed the LED truly hates LED notifications because he made it blink so slowly and dimly that nobody could possibly notice it.

Yup, sat there watching the phone for a good 2-3 min after hearing the Notification sound for new email / text. (screen off)
Not sure if its suppose to or not, but I don't even get a LED Notification light when the phone is charging or charged (have to turn phone on to check if the phone is done charging.) Past devices I've had used the LED to notify of charging/charged.
It's normal that it doesn't glow when charging. I really can recommend Light Flow, then you can customise the notification as you wish (the free version is good, I bought the full version because I need steam support, but for normal use there is no need to buy it)

Ok, so my notification light wouldnt work no matter what. I uninstalled sms popup and now light flow works like it should. I guess the sms popup was somehow blocking light flow from allowing it to activate.
No notification light shows while charging, hence why when you charge the phone when it's off, it shows an animation on the screen. It should for calls, texts, emails, etc. though. Mine works. It even shows blue for facebook and white for texts/emails. Not sure why it wouldn't work. Have you gotten the 4.2.1 update?
Additionally, light flow states in its description that it doesn't work on most lg phones.

[Q] My VZW G2 vs Friends ATT G2. Why doesn't mine do it too?

OK so I have a VZW G2 and my friend has an ATT G2. When he gets a text message his screen will turn on and mine won't. And his notification light blinks about every 2 to 3 seconds where as mine is something like everything 30 seconds. These both suck and I want it to be like the ATT version but I can't figure out how.
Any help would be great.
One more thing, I've also got home screen redraws and he said he has never had one. WTF?
Interesting. I hate how the screen doesn't turn on when I get a text on my VZ g2. Would love to hear the answer or if the is a fix.

At least it not just me i guess.
Been using this since I got my phone. The time isn't very accurate in my experience, I have it set for 10 seconds but it's closer to 5 or 6. Anyway, it works well enough so I haven't bothered looking for another similar app.

Just tried it. It does wake the screen but then it gets rid of my notification light and missed message icon in the status bar all together. So if I missed to screen turning on I wouldn't know I had a new message at all.

I use Light Flow for LED control. Stock LED controller has never been very useful for me. You can easily set different colors and durations and pretty much anything else you'd ever want.

Plus one on Light Flow. So many customizations and can even control your power button led and flashlight. Blows all others away imho.:good:
I can't get Light Flow to do anything other than wake the screen.

Notification LED Times Out After Only 5 Minutes?

I've observed that when an incoming call rings the phone and it is not answered, the green notification LED only flashes for approximately 5 minutes before it times out. I'm used to a continuous notification light on my Galaxy S6 and Sony Z3 until I unlock my phone and clear the notification.
Would be nice if we could change this default behavior. I much prefer a continuous notification light vs. one that times out so quickly. Unless you use an app similar to DynamicNotifications, you may be checking your phone a lot just to see if you've missed any calls.
I haven't tried any other notification tests from other apps. Can anyone else confirm the behavior described above?

True I have the same I don't think is something we can do about it, I tried some apps but the led color doesn't change.

Dont think its a multicolour LED.
Anyone figured out to have the notification light remain blinking until unlock of the phone???

Hmmm...I wonder why an LED if you can't really work with it. I use LIghtflow, and would hope it would work on this phone. Maybe it won't.
