Battery issues on 2.3

Im noticing my battery is draining faster than when I had froyo anyone else noticing this.its very disappointing .im using it just how I used it on froyo and it barely last through half the day. And should I use a task killer, droid life said it would save me more battery if I didn't use one

You might want to recalibrate your battery. I am getting much better life on gingerbread. Definitely do not use a task killer. Android is designed to keep the programs you use most in memory and drop the ones that aren't. Even the ones on memory won't be using much power.

Charge the battery to 100% and then boot into CWM and go to advanced > wipe battery stats

Another reason that I regretted upgrading to it is the battery seems to run down a lot faster.
I also noticed the keypad lights stay on considerably longer (and brighter too?). Can it possibly be assisted adjusted?

We just updated my wife's DX to the Gingerbread OTA this morning. (We are running stock)
My wife showed me that her battery was down to about 40% today, when normally she is around 70% by the end of the day.
I don't have CWM on her phone (if I should be resetting data as mentioned above).
Is her battery draining faster, or is it just a battery recalibration issue?
If we need to recalibrate, what should we do without CWM?

The battery is likely draining faster. It's an issue discussed by many others. I have questionable battery issues following the upgrade. My usage patterns haven't changed, but my battery life seems slightly worse. Moto is aware and hopefully will fix relatively soon.

I'm also experiencing 20 to 30% faster battery drainage on GB. No change in usage or apps.

Yes, and so far the suggestions revolve around disabling any sort of syncing/polling apps, turning down screen brightness, turning off 3G radio and living life with only WiFi, doing a factory reset, and a few others. Some believe it's a 3G signal issue and the radio bumping the power to compensate. I'm betting on this as the phone does get quite a bit warmer when using the 3G radio. Realistically, the only real solution will come from Moto when the issue is fixed.

Motorola claims the DroidX has 480 minutes talk time and 220 hours standby!

Definitely not since the GB update. Might have been able to get that before if you remove all widgets, syncing/pushing apps, and only turn the screen on to dial a phone number.
On a side note, I broke down and bought the extended battery and I seem to be getting worse battery life now than before Time to exchange it or get my money back.

I am experiencing the same fast drainage and excessive heat. I am more than ready for a fix & root.

Just updated to 2.3.3 today and my battery is doing a lot better than on froyo. im unrooted

I was having a similar issue with the battery draining and the phone feeling warmer that usual after I first updated. I fired up OSMonitor and found that there was a motorola service running nonstop at like 20% CPU usage. Found out it was trying to sync my exchange account but couldn't connect. I manually went in to the mail app and refreshed; it sync'd my account and the problem was solved. Great battery life ever since.
Don't know if this is a similar issue that other people are having, but hopefully it helps someone.

I had the same problem (battery would drain in a few hours and the phone would get very hot) and could not determine the problem.
After a few days I tried the "Droid Factory Reset"
under: Reset instructions for DROID X on 2.3 Gingerbread Android:

It worked. The battery life went back to what it had been before the update, or at least to something similar. Of course, all the data and apps were wiped.... but it was a perfect trade off for having a phone that worked once again.
Just waiting for the Gingerbread OTA Root!

funny, cause when i go through privacy to factory data reset and get all the way to the final button to erase everything...the damn button does nothing. Doesnt work.
it's fine cause i can just boot into android recovery and do it there, but wtf.
this OTA GB has been pretty bad thus far. lots of lost functionality such as extended controls / power control widget, task killer widgets...none of them work.

Solution to all ICS issues

When I upgrade to ICS, my tablet exhibited all issues everyone was complaining about.
1) Battery drain. - the culprit of this issue is GPS. The GPS was preventing tablet from going into deep sleep. I have disabled GPS but kept Google location service enabled and that fixed the deep sleep issue. Also there were some incomparable software which prevented deep sleep. XDA app was one of them.
2) Random reboots, shutdowns, and lag. - the culprit of these issues is software incompatible. All you have to do is perform full wipe and cold boot using recovery by pressing and holding power and volume down buttons. After reset, all issues are gone.
To troubleshoot use next tools.
1) CPUSpy - it will show of tablet goes into deep sleep.
2)Battery settings in the rom's system setting is helpful to see if the phone sleeps but will not show if it deep sleep.
3) BetterBatteryStates is very useful to see which process keeps tablet awake.

If it were that easy Asus wouldn't be working on a fix to push out to us. They have already confirmed there are issues.
My tablet didn't exhibit any of the reboot issues up until a few days ago. Which means even though your "solution " has seemed to help so far it could end up happening again later on

I have been running for 1d and 20 hours using tablet and still have 60% left. No reboots no lag runs smooth. Also there is an issue with GPS which keeps tablet from going into deep sleep and that is what Asus is working on. If you disable GPS and remove xda app that will solve your battery issue. Also xda might have fixed their app since then. Full wipe will fix other issues.

I understand and believe you. I'm saying that the amount of time you have without any issues is not long enough to be 100% certain all issues are gone.
That is why I stated that's I had NONE of the issues for a couple weeks then out of nowhere they started.

I am just sharing my findings. I think GPS is the biggest contributed. Just disable it and see how the tablet runs.

If a full wipe was the solution, then you will not find so many threads about the reboot or other issues.
it is just pure luck, some did all the steps of full wipe, full reset, go to stock HC then stock ICS, in all ways some keep getting issues and some do not have any.....
and as it has been already mentioned above, the issues have been confirmed by asus and they are already working on a solution.

My experience: I've done a full wipe, installed few apps from scratch (no restore), disabled GPS and installed autoairplane app. Everything seemed ok, two days and one night in deep sleep with 8% of battery drain per day. The following morning the tablet was switched off with 0% of battery

Great that you have resolved the issues for your TF101 and thanks for sharing the steps you took you to get that far.
It's only a limited set of devices though (1) and a limited amount of time.
I still believe most TF101 ICS issues are related to drivers. Just like it was initially with the first Asus HC release. Updates will improve stability.

I agree, this is just a poor choice of words..and with the title of the thread, you are really just ginning up controversy here now as a thread of this nature has already been closed because of someone insisting that a full wipe solves reboot issues..I would have phrased it more scientifically correct by saying 'the culprit seemed to be software incompatibility', you could even throw in the obligatory 'to me' lol. When you state things with such certainty in a development and electronics forum where terminology and phrasing is very important you are misleading people (noobs and lurkers) who are then going to complain and whine about being misled (and possibly mess up their device in some cases). Safer to state your 'findings' in less certain terms IMO.
And as I already pointed out in another thread, in order to say anything equivocally about a solution to a common problem like random reboots you need to have tested and confirmed the proposed solution on tens and hundreds of units, which very few of us have access to to test with any clarity of results. So anyone *should* take users' proposed solutions with a grain of salt barring they are employed with Asus or Best Buy and could have done such testing. Other users have proposed build.prop fixes for example, only to realize they had reboots and didn't even notice. 1 day is not long n this timeframe- I have one once a week tops..but I still have them..lol

The only problem i had was the apps disappearing from the launcher whenever i exited an app. I thought i solved this by installing a new launcher. But it returned after a few days. I did a full wipe and installed apps from scratch. since then my tablet has been running smooth and fast. no issues. May be it's the apps we install that are causing the problems.

I think it is the graphics acceleration driver. Many games are not working to me, they just exist to launcher and in logcat i can see SIGSERVs because of openGL ( this is from memory, I don't have my tablet here right now).
We must wait until ASUS releases a fix.

I'll come in with another just wait and see like other folks have said. I did my ICS update with a full wipe and then only installed apps I felt comfortable with instead of just doing a full reinstall of everything. For days life seemed grand with everything working just right. Then I got a few reboots and now the constant media converter dying message. So be happy things are working well for you but be prepared for the errors to creep in.

I suffered from random reboots. Whenever my device went to deep sleep it could not come out of it. What I did to remedy this is to root and install set cpu. After installation, i changed my minimum freq to 312mhz and my max at 1ghz. So far, for about a week, i have not suffered any random reboots/freezes. Also, using cpu spy, it does go to deep sleep. I hope this helps.

You are *definitely* wrong on this one. There are numerous documented accounts of people having this problem even on stock, unrooted TF101 tablets that have been wiped both before and after the ICS update was applied, and have nothing or next-to-nothing reinstalled. I'm one such person.
A full wipe most definitely does NOT fix or prevent these problems.

It did for the OP and a vast number of other users. Doesn't work for everyone but it is a viable solution.

I originally suffered from horrible battery life after updating to ICS, but I took a page from the book of the Gnex when it comes to sudden horrible battery life. One of the biggest problems on the GNex with sudden battery drain a lot of the times had to do with Google Maps. I used CPU Spy and Better Battery Stats and sure enough, Google Maps was constantly running in the background, putting the tablet into a wakelock and most likely running the GPS. The tablet wouldn't even last half the day WITH the dock. Went to apps, uninstalled updates and reinstalled the most recent version and since then the battery life has been PHENOMENAL! I've got the tablet with dock and it'll go most of the week, if not all week before the dock starts running low.
Hope this helps others. Can't guarantee it'll fix your problems but it fixed mine.

My volume is low, also been experienced by others. And it seems like left speaker is lower in volume, which I also read issues with. So yea. I have a couple little quirks. Good thing is I don't really use it for music or movies so not huge deal to me

This has been my fix from the start and have only had one self-inflicted random reboot and (Horndroid here is a nod for you) another reboot after I updated Google+. I reverted back to previous G+ build and all is back that way it was before.

Anyone else having partial wakelocks/worse battery life after JB OTA?

Just wanted to throw this out there and see if anyone happens to be getting a lot of partial wakelocks without screen on or if your overall battery life has decreased since installing the 4.1.1 OTA. When I first purchased the phone, I had very very few incidents under my battery info where I would have a session awake without the screen on. Post update, seems like I've got a ton of really small wakes with no screen activity. I have turned off Google Now and every GPS/Location setting I could find. Downloaded Better Battery Stats today so I'm going to see if I can get some better info on what's going on, new to the program though and I don't understand most of the info that it reads.
Prior to the update, letting my phone sit overnight I would maybe see a 3 or 4% drop over the course of say six or seven hours. Now I'm seeing a 3 to 4% drop in battery per hour, more if I'm actively using the phone. I'm going to do more testing, specifically overnight to see how it fairs. Just wanted to throw this out there and see if anyone else is experiencing any of these issues.

Im getting the fast dormancy symptom again... no matter what i tried I cant fix it... always connecting as HSPDA+ even if im not using......anyone got any ideas?

Hmm, might try a factory reset and not installing any apps at all and seeing how it fairs. By chance, do you guys have any of the stock bloatware apps disabled? Not rooted/Frozen, but just disabled via the apps menu? Wondering if perhaps disabling any of them might be a trigger.

for me freezing modem fast dormancy monitor and modem stats service appears to fix fast dormancy

Yes I am noticing it to. I disabled Google now and it got a bit better.

Yea i'm getting that. I'm using 13% overnight now vs like 4% before. Not sure about the wakelocks though.
Some random things I've noticed are the blur widget resets itself alot. And the transition to the settings window on the left is laggy. How would one revert back to ICS? Google Now is not that worth it to me and the phone was smooth enough before. I'd take the battery life over the new features.
I did buy a second Razr M for my girlfriend that's still on ICS. I guess I can do a side by side compare this weekend.

I am loving the update.. only issue so far is fire fox crashing..no battery issues. Must be settings guys..

i don't think it is setting i have all my syncs to manual, and i have been noticing a lot worse battery life since the update i would have 18+ hours or so off charger with pretty heavy texting / game / some voice calls. Now i'm not getting close to that. I just disabled the fast dormancy service to see if that helps any, ill post back results

Just did a factory reset today, I'm not going to disable any of the bloatware this time, and I only installed BetterBatteryStats as well as updated all the default apps in the Play Store. Going to see if I get any wakelocks this time around.
Last night, after a period of 6 hours, I had over an hours worth of partial wakelocks from AlarmManager (subheading Phone).

I disabled Google Now and my phone used 7% battery over 6 and a half hours. A little bit better.

A factory reset (annoying as it is) helped me considerably. My phone was also seriously laggy before the reset...slow like my old DX on GB, much worse than factory ICS. It finally feels smooth now, like JB should.
Still seeing a lot more wakelocks than on ICS, but it doesn't seem to be draining the battery like it was before the reset. I also removed or disabled a couple of apps that seemed to be serious offenders (Accuweather was one).

Did a reset on mine as well and did not restore from Google backup. Still seeing wakelocks, but as someone noted earlier they don't seem to be draining the battery too much. With that said, the battery does still seem to tick down much faster than on ICS. One thing I did find that helped, although honestly it's not really a solution, is turning off data use when I'm out and about just answering texts and such. If I have data/wifi disabled, I'm getting closer to the battery life that ICS was giving, but then again who wants to go around having to toggle data on and off every time you want to look something up.

Is maps showing up on your battery stats and you're not using it? If so, simply open the application. It should say "updated to the latest version" or something like that. If this is happening, this will solve your battery problems.
Happened on my Galaxy Nexus and was happening initially for this phone too. Hope this helps someone.

Modem Fast Dormancy Monitor Service Not Responding.
Me and my wife both updated to KitKat on our Razr M's. I like it so far. The pop up about modem fast dormancy bothers both of use. When you look under battery, it uses more battery than other apps. I force stop it, reboot and it comes right back. A chat on Motorola web site sugested to wipe partition cache. The link that was provide gives the wrong instructions. KitKat using the power and volume keys has changed. They forgot to tell some people. That didn't work! I sent a long email to Motorola telling them that someone messed up or they did this for a reason! I guess if you get mad enough you'll just buy a newer phone. If that one thing is fixed, we would both be happy. The white background in text take some getting use to also. I hope Motorola will help us, but I kind of think Razr M's will be considered OLD! They are betting we will junk them for a new model.

Naver LINE chat causes battery drain. Anyone else noticed it?

I'm using my new Nexus4 for a week and I can't believe that its battery duration is worse than my old Samsung Galaxy SII. Yesterday I looked to the "Battery" in the settings app and I saw that the program spending the most of the battery was Naver LINE chat, a 46%!!!!! I'm not a power-user of LINE (the latest time that I opened it was 4 days ago).
I can't believe it, but I uninstalled the app for testing if the battery drain disappear today.
Anyone else has noticed it?

I did, since the latest update I'm experiencing this too, I'm waiting for an update to fix this

yep definitely one of the biggest wakelock source. I froze it with titanium backup and my battery stats went up significantly.

I was asking to my friends with different Android mobiles (SGS2, SGS3, Sony Xperias...) and any of them has noticed it.
Is it possible that some custom ROMs (or maybe some stock ROMs like the Samsung ones) are "fixing" in some way this wakeLock for avoiding battery issues? It's estrange that people with the latest LINE version in Android are not experiencing the issue...

Still using more than 40% on my N4 and my wife's N4 as well.
No way to report this to the developers.

Not to beat a dead horse but I'm curious about this also.
I feel like Line is a huge battery drain and I'm tempted to uninstall it.

I didn't have optimizing apps like normal and the update was much faster, but than again that might have happened since we got Nougat and I didn't notice it in the last two updates.
Otherwise its typical security update.

Actually after I did the update, now every time my phone rings Spotify starts and I cannot figure out how to stop that from happening. Extremely annoying

I had two bugs that it actually fixed:
When I was connected to AC power, and on bluetooth, and would hit the dialer app it would restart the System UI and display an error stating that the system integrity couldn't be verified and suggesting to recover the phone using the Verizon **** tools.
When you set a reminder and turn the screen off before the "Reminder saved" verbiage was stated then the phone will go ahead and say that EVERY time you unlock the phone.

It has caused noticeably higher battery drain on my S7E during the day. I left it fully charged and unplugged over night after the update, and it only lost 2%, so Doze is working in that case. But when carrying it around, it drains faster than I've ever seen it drain by quite a lot. I'm assuming it's a rouge app that has some issue with the update. MyRadar may be the culprit according the battery monitor, as it often was on my Nexus 6P.
I've cleared both cache's several times and done several reboots to no effect.

I was right, it was MyRadar. I tried to optimize it, but it did not help. I finally uninstalled it and my battery life is at least as good as ever, and it's always been outstanding on this phone.
As a very outdoor oriented person, so I love the MyRadar app. But it's been a glitchy app for me for far too long. I'm using Radar Express now instead, and it is not impacting my battery drain so far.
