[Q] OTG quit working after 4.2.2 Update - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My son and I both have Nexus 7's, WIFI version. Both are running 4.2.2. The only difference between the two is mine is rooted his isn't, yet.
We both have Media Importer loaded but here is the issue. Ever since he upgraded to 4.2.2 his Nexus will not see any devices connected to the OTG cable. Mine works fine, he has tried my cable and I have tried his. It's definitely not the cables. His laptop recognizes the Nexus and it charges fine so we ruled out the USB port.
Any ideas what might be the issue on his end?
Thanks!

I am on 4.2.2, rooted and OTG works fine. I seem to recall root was needed to use OTG, wasn't it? Was OTG working on your son's N7 before the update without root?

You don't need root if you use Media Importer. Yes it worked fine prior to the update.

4.1.1 random OTG problems with mass storage etc

Hi. I have flashed in two UK Note 10.1 the German 4.1.1 and in both of them I have OTG usb problems. To be more spesific when I insert a usb via the official Samsumg connector eventhough the connector is always recognized I dont always enter mass storage mode. So some times it enters and some times it doesnt. Also the same happens when I insert a mouse hub. The problem is not permanent and usually after a restart it works again but it is really annoying. Have also flashed the UK rom again but the problem remains.
Anyone else having the same problem?
Hi again. To be more spesific when I open the Note the mass storage works but then after I unplug it it stops working and I need to restart the Note to work again. However when I connect the Note to pc it is always recognized. Any thoughts or suggestions? I really need your help on this.
I had this on 4.0.4 with my ps3 controller i really dont know the solution i also asked on here, i literally just waited a while (days) and it worked, its REALLY strange, make sure you have 80%+ battery
Hi again. After flashing various official roms I used the open Europe 4.0.4 one and strangely enough the problem was solved. For me the strange thing is that both Notes that I have flashed with the 4.1.1 German rom experienced the same problem and even when I flashed back to the UK Rom the problem remained. I also flashed them in two different laptops but nothing.
Finally the open Europe one solved the problem.

Do you unmount thr USB devices before you remove them.? If you don't I am sure you might get this problem.
You can unmount directly from the notification pane - this may have been new in JB?
Yes I do. Still this was a strange problem for me.
The only solution/ workaround I can think of is having the Note rooted and use UMS Watcher that lets you mount external devices manually if they do not mount automatically.

Yes this could be a solution but for now I prefer to stay stock. Anyway with the open Europe Rom it works but I will try again the German 4.0.4 to see.
I have the same problem since upgrading to the german 4.1 firmware. Most of the time I have to reboot the tablet before it will go into mass storage. I've tried mass storage watcher but it makes no difference. Mass storage watcher just shows no device connected. Would be nice for a fix.

I am glad to see that I am not the only one but also sorry fornyour problem. Try to flash the open European rom to see if the problem will be fixed. In the meantime I will flash again the German to see if the problem will appear again.
Same problem here, UK 8010 flashed with German JB, mass storage only works if connected during a reboot.
When you say open europe rom is that ICS or JB?

Unfortunately ICS but I don't see much difference from the JB. I also tried to flash the official UK ICS since I have a UK Note but the problem remained.
Strange, I didn't have the problem on Ics. Maybe a factory reset is needed.
I had updated my UK 8010 using the patch and update German JB and my OTG was not working.
I have now just installed the complete 4.1.1 German JB update over this and my OTG is now working again

I have also flashed the full German rom but the problem remained. It is not that my otg wasn't working at all, it is that it stopped working after some time and I needed to restart the device.
Unfortunately even after updating to the UK 4.1.1 I still experience OTG issues so once again I flashed back to 4.0.4.

I suppose the bug still exists, right?
I flashed all available 4.1.1 roms and the problem remains. I am back to ICS and the problem is fixed.

[Q] Root S4 unable to use Screen Mirror or Allshare?

Hi All,
I am new to the andriod camp. I have recently rooted my Snapdragon S4
Root works as i used titanium backup to backup some apps.
I did a search and understand there were problems with allshare on rooted andriod phones in the pass.
There was a solution posted but was quite a while back
I purchased Triangle away 2.90
It seems to run fine on the S4 but shows my counter as 0 and Binary is stated as official.
I am not sure if this is correct although i did read that the latest version does play well with S4
Now onto my issue
I have a Samsung Smart TV (no dongle), both phone and TV connects to same wifi network
I tried the following
1) On S4, screen mirror, unable to detect any device
2) I used the allshare app on my TV, it cant detect my phone either
Sadly i was too excited to root it before trying so i am not sure if its root causing an issue or something else.
Anyone has experience with root and allshare / screen mirror?

before i rooted my S4 the Scren Mirroring worked great using my Samsung Dongle. Then after i rooted my device the Screen Mirroring would no longer work. I tried every single fix i could think of. i flashed every root supported kernel, every different recovery including the stock recovery and nothing helped. I found out that Screen Mirroring will only work for me with the exact, untouched, stock kernel, and stock recovery. Plus custom recoveries dont seem to work with the stock kernel. So because i needed the Screen Mirroring and i wanted the ability to use the hotspot too,if needed. Heres what i did. I completely wiped my phone. Then i odined back my device back to completely stock, did the software update and setup my S4 how i prefer. After going back to stock rom, unrooted, screen mirroring worked great again on my Sprint S4 with my Samsung dongle, but i also still wanted the hotspot use. So i put my "stock" S4 in download mode, then opened Odin and its very important to uncheck the auto-reboot. Then in Odin, uncheck reboot!, flash a custom reovery, then power off or pull battery. Then immediately boot into recovery. I found this way is a surefire way to boot into recovery;with power off, press volume up and then press power button and hold both until u see the blue recovery mode in the upper corner. As soon as u see the blue recovery let go of both buttons immediately and it will boot into whatever custom recovery u just flashed using odin. Then wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache,go to apply/flash zip,its the odex hotspotmodMDL.zip found in xda. Then reboot and the stock kernel will erase the custom recovery, but the hotspot mod still works and so does the screen mirroring. Plus my brothers "totally stock" Sprint S4's screen mirroring works great using my samsung dongle and his friends samsung 60" LED tv. I hope someone finds this useful. I know its not near as good as root access, but until they develope a kernel that will work with both root and screen mirroring i guess ill stick with this for now. Also how come no support in recovery for 64GB C10 sdcard, sandisk brand ? Thanks everyone at xda for teaching me most of what i know.
Verizon Galaxy S4 Rooted Allshare Cast Dongle/ Screen Mirroring,
Since I have been rooted, I have been unable to connect to my Allshare Cast Dongle. I performed the Loki method through Odin and used a stock Odexed Rom. I Tried to connect to Allshare and the end result was Error Message: Connection has ended. When I flashed back to stock, all was normal. Since then, I installed Hyperdrive RLS4 and Allshare works right out of the box. However, you will have a Custom Logo upon boot up. I used Triangle away to remove the logo successfully, but it broke Screen Mirroring. After another flash of the rom all was well, until I flashed Rom Manager; Allshare was broken again. Since avoiding the two issues I had on Hyperdrive's RLS4: Triangle Away and installing Clockwork Touch , I can say that Allshare works really well and is stable. Netflix and HBO GO are working flawlessly!

I would like to know as well as the procedure to do this.
I have rooted stock and the dongle works fine. Sometimes have to reset the dongle and try a couple of times first time out after an update but as long as I keep stock kernel it always works. Had same experience with S3. (mf5 9505)
Same here
I have a Samsung Smart TV and Galaxy S4 as well rooted. My Fiance has an S4 as well and screen mirroring works just fine. Only thing that I can do is use WiFi-Direct to stream video to my TV which is a workaround that works for me.
Samsung Galaxy S4 i337
After reading through the posts, I am getting that the screen mirroring does not work with rooting. I have my i337 rooted and my friend has his i357 not rooted. He can connect to the TV no problem. He can see that I am connected on his phone and can choose to connect to me or the TV; however, my phone does not acknowledge either. When he sends me a picture, his phone says it failed and mine doesn't show anything. I do get the notification that I am connected to him but it does not show up in my list as available. Is this fixable or only through unrooting?
I root my device and install 4.2.2. german update, then install Audism kernel V4, i can't get screen mirroring to work on a Samsung 2013 smart tv. The devices establish connection but a few seconds, on the TV shows charging, and the phone disconnects. then i flash JanJan's and Jamal's 4.2.2 Google Edition roms and after screen mirroring connection is established, i got message "ShareShotService" stopped.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

The same problem... Screen mirroring doesn't work. I'm on a S4 with Wanamlite, root and custom kernel. When I try to connect to my dongle, the connection is stopped after 2 or 3 seconds...
And, I don't want to un—root my phone...

Edit: After getting an AllShare Cast, this doesn't work, SysScope isn't used at all.
As far as I know AllShare Cast checks with SysScope to see if the device is modified.
Here's a possible fix, please tell me if it works as I'm looking for an AllShare Cast dongle and I'm rooted.
Install the Xposed Framework. It doesn't conflict with anything.
Install Xposed SysScope Blaster (not my tweak) from http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/public/Android/Xposed/XposedSysscopeBlaster.apk
Activate the tweak in Xposed Installer.
Go to Settings > More > Application Manager and find SysScope, tap it and clear its data.
Reboot and see if Settings > More > About device > Status > Device Status says Official.
If it does, try using AllShare Cast again.
If it doesn't you messed up one of the steps above. Try again.

hi,
have you tried to select "Select modified workaroud" (flagged) and "periodic system modified reset" (flagged) and then "reset flash counter" ?
samsung devices sould doesn't recognize custom kernel if super Su start AFTER boot...
:good:
Using Omega V9, works fine with the About status as "Custom".
Just hit the pair button on Allshare Cast Hub, and turned on mirroring... Detected, paired and worked...
Help me i got this thing and it not coneecting
on my sg4 tell me unable to connect cause of hardware issues and on my note 2 after connecting its said connection end
So I just imported an AllShare Cast Hub. No dice.
The reason seems to be HDCP2 failing to initialize, I'm guessing Samsung added some code to make that fail.
I was thinking of doing something about it with Xposed, but that part of mirroring is in native C++ code, libWFD_ENGINE.so to be exact.
Has anyone actually gotten it working on a 9500 after rooting it? I restored stock kernel/recovery and it still doesn't work.

Lost OTG after Installing Kali Nethunter

Hello,
I installed the kali kernel and net hunter as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/kernel-kali-nethunter-zte-axon-7-t3520280 and everything booted fine. I could net get my external wifi adapter to be recognized so after much troubleshooting I noticed that my phone no longer recognizes the otg cables: i cannot mount a flash drive any more or use my sir with sir touch. I refreshed my back up and all work. Anyone else having this issue?
Hadn't thought to test it as I was still fighting with my wifi adapter but it would appear that OTG doesn't work for me either using the latest build
I saw your post just after I made this one. I to struggled with the wifi adapter thinking it was the adapter till I tried out the OTG cable. Hopefully it is a quick kernel fix.
yeah I noticed this too, it wasn't happening before I uploaded the kernel so not sure what happened there.
It's most likely related to the DWC3 driver updates from mainline being unstable.
I'd reflash stock system & boot followed by SuperSU for now until I resolve it.
I'm working with a new kernel base at the moment which I plan on rebasing NetHunter onto but I haven't finished solving the audio issues.
Update: Looks like it's due to the HID gadget patch, though not sure how it's interfering. Maybe the USB descriptors are incorrect. :S

USB OTG Not Working

I am currently having an issue with my USB OTG Flash Drive. This drive, and other used to work fine when plugged in. Now it doesnt show up at all in the phone even in recovery. The flash drive works fine on my laptop, and the phone itself transfers fine to a laptop.
They used to work, but I cannot remember if it stopped after a certain ROM/Kernel update. I do know that it was NOT working on the prior version of Pure Nexus + Elemental X, nor is it working on the current versions. I state that because to upgrade between those 2 versions a clean flash was required, so that did not fix the issue.
Any ideas?

I'm looking at this issue too. Hope we can get some answers. I'm looking at re-flashing the factory image this weekend to see if that works.
This happened to my 6p while on Screw'd 7.1.2 ROM, I wasn't even done backing up all of my files when OTG simply stopped working. Tried all sorts of things even powering the flash drive using a USB y cable, still nothing. Must be a controller issue because the phone connects to a PC no problem but ignores OTG devices completely.
How's the drive formatted?

USB OTG Not Working In TWRP

I'm unable to mount a USB OTG in TWRP. Is this just me or is this a widespread issue?
Here too... Not working otg in TWRP
Yeah, It's just not supported right now. The unofficial TWRP had it working but something changed in the official one that broke it. TBH though it doesn't look like there's gonna be a fix soon because the maintainer of this version doesn't seem to be too active.
