Perhaps try backing up contacts data with MyBackup from play store, export backup to new phone and import them.
Do a backup from your new phone before importing the contacts
Dont know if it works, or why the N4 can't import more than 400 contactc, just a possible solution

I'm trying to finally switch over to a custom ROM but the only thing that is holding me back is that I cant find a way to import my contacts from the Stock OS over to my gmail account so that when I use the custom ROM, theyll be there. My auto sync is on and it refreshed but gmail is only showing email contacts.
You can save your contacts to your sd card and then import them back over. Contacts >> menu >> export to SD
When I click menu on the people's app/contacts I dont see that option. Am I in the wrong spot?

I found it in Phone >> People >> Menu >> Import/Export
When I lick menu I only see the new contact button, search people, delete contacts, view, and sync exchange contacts
Theres an app (sry dont know the name as of right now) but it exports your entire contact list onto a CVS file or vCard - not that kind - and u can import all of them in gmail.
I believe there's another app that also converts all your current contacts to google contacts, so they sync automatically. I'll check the market later and post the names if u haven't found them already.
Edit: just use ExportContacts and import the cvs file in gmail. then sync them to your phone. after that just make sure when adding a number its a google contact.

Personally I wouldn't use it as many people have reported that it messed up their hero. Its easier still to use "exportcontacts" and import the .cvs file in gmail and then sync them to your phone.
Is there any way to use a High Def Photo for contacts without that widescreen crop that is included in the contacts app?
Better yet, is there anyway to get the photos that are attached to my Outlook contacts?
I have around 200 contacts and re-setting manually the photos should be a p...
Thank you.
yea, i'd like to know how too
If the contact is a .vcf file, and the picture is attached, it should load up just fine with the picture included on the X10.
I transferred all my contacts from my old phone to my X10 via Bluetooth, and all the ones with pictures kept them when they arrived on the X10.
The problem is that I no lonbger have my old cellphone.

But you do have them in outlook? Then you will have to extract them out to VCF or something. and then move them over the the phone.

Yeah, I did them with my old phone too... worked a treat... I then synced my contacts with Gmail (which I hear can also sync pics) but it totally screwed everything up, and I lost half of my favourite contacts...
I guess my post ain't really helpful, except to say backup whatever is on there before fiddling around, or you might loose them all!
But how do I extract my contacts from Outlook to a VCF file?
Outlook 2007 just gives me the option to import from this kind of file.
Export to CSV file does not gives me the photos.

There are a few sister apps floating around - Missing Sync might do it, but basically Microsoft have locked down most of this stuff so you can't do it easily.
EDIT: Just found a some demos for Missing Sync - use that - get your contacts up, then worry about buying it if you think you still need it...

It's a pretty good program if you ask me, although I'm pretty happy with cloud syncing - I just with Sony Ericsson sync wasn't removed from my device... Google sync sucks.

Great tip, have missed this feature from HTC Hero.
So, I've searched, I've looked, I've scoured, and I seem to be coming up empty handed.
I was able to get all of my contacts from WinMo into .VCF format, now when I toss them all on my SD card, and try to import them using the importer in Froyo, every time is fails to find them. Is there a specific directory they need to be in, or is importing these just not an option since Android is running off of the SD card itself?
Thanks in advance.

can't you import those to your gmail contacts on your computer and then let them sync?
I never thought of that, to be honest, but I can only do one contact at a time using that method, it seems.
Also, another strange thing happening when I import them using Gmail, some contacts auto-synch with a person's Facebook profile, while others do not. Any thoughts on this?
I know I can go into people and remove contacts there, but if i were to say import contacts from SD card, they all come back.....there are certain people I want to remove forever, where do I go to do this?
You can just delete them, then export your contacts and do a re-sync. They will be gone for good.
We're comin from a pure power source.
Just make sure you wont ever need the contact again...

Just re-sync your account in accounts and sync before hand and they won't.
Just export to your gmail and then edit on your computer. Re-sync and it will be gone
Hello,
Purchased a Moto X Pure recently and was able to get the bootloader unlocked and TWRP installed. I found a custom ROM
on here that is identical to what was on the phone minus bloat. I am trying to restore my contacts from my storage card
but it won't give me the option to import to phone memory, just an email account. I have been able to import
to phone memory from my other android phones which is why I like this over Apple. Not sure if this is enough info
so let me know if not. Just looking to not have to put contacts onto a gmail account, I prefer not to sync. Thanks.
If you are oldschool/manually backing up contacts like me, and you have a .vcf file, just go into the phone app and locate it for importing.

I had tried that and it didn't seem to know what to do with the file type. I am all set now. I put on different ROM which had the option.
