[Q] Bricked a500- stuck on boot menu. - Acer Iconia A500

Yes I am a noob, but a noob in need of help.
I recently decided to root my Acer Iconia a500 16gb WIFI version, running on stock ICS. I realised i had to unlock my bootloader to install CWM etc. So I followed a tutorial, and used blackthund3rs A500 APX Flash Utility v0.4. I used the flash package "Skrilax_CZ's bootloader V8".
So I thought all was going well, however when rebooting it, it just sits on "Skrilax_CZ's bootloader V8: Booting primary kernel image". I'm assuming its bricked, as it doesn't go beyond this point. I can get a few other options by doing the "PWR+VOL" combination and it opens boot-menu mode with the options:
-Reboot
-Fastboot Mode
-Boot Primary Kernel Image
-Boot Secondary Kernel Image
-Boot Recovery
-Set Boot secondary Kernel Image
-Set debug mode off/on
-Wipe Cache
The only option that does the slytest thing is putting it in fastboot mode. When putting it in this mode, it registers in "A500MANAGER" (when connected to my pc via USB) as the device being in fastboot mode. But I dont know what to do from there.
I've looked at multiple threads and cant find anything to fix this problem.
Please Help! Thanks!

Sounds like the A500 manager didn't do something right. Happens sometimes.
Here is what I would do. I assume you don't have the Android SDK installed. No need to, as some of the bootloader/CWM packages have the necessary files needed.
1. Boot to the bootloader, select the option "Fastboot Mode"
2. Make sure you have downloaded to PC a CWM package for ICS/JB. Usually the manual packages have the necessary files, such as the CWM image, fastboot.exe, adb, and some dll files. Unzip them to your PC. (Also helps to download a custom ICS or CM10 rom to your sd card first)
3. Open a command window in the same folder you have the files.
4. type "fastboot flash recovery xxxxxxxx.img" (xxxxxxxx is name of cwm recovery img file, do not put the " in) then hit enter.
5. After completion, immediately boot tablet into recovery. I believe holding Vol- and PWR does this. Or, Vol+ and PWR boots to the bootloader menu. Either way.
In recovery, do your wipes and or formats as per ROM installation instructions.
Install ROM
Enjoy. If you have problems locating one of those packages, give a shout back.

Thanks for the fast reply,
I am a noob, so could you perhaps link me a CWM package for ics to download?
Thanks

No problem. I'll post a link in awhile.
MD

Files
Ok, so here are your files.
Unzip the contents of the zip file to a folder on your PC
Boot your tab to the bootloader menu, select Fastboot.
Connect tab to PC, then wait 30 seconds or so (windows has to recognize it)
Then, go to that folder. Hold "Shift" + "Right Mouse Click".
Select "Open Command Window"
Type in the following;
fastboot flash recovery recovery_thor17_403.img
and hit enter. Should transfer good.
When finished, boot tablet to recovery like I mentioned earlier. DO NOT boot to the system. Or you'll be doing this all over again.
Install ICS or CM10 rom following the instructions on the ROM post. I suggest starting out with Civato's ICS Flex****** rom first, or one of the stock rooted ones.
Should be good...... I hope.
MD

Thanks again.
I did the fastboot recovery thing. But when I go to reboot, I have to turn it on and select "Boot Recovery", when I do its stuck on the screen "Skrilax_CZ's bootloader v8: Booting recovery kernel image"
Is this whats supposed to happen or am I supposed to see a different screen?

Shut down the tab. Reboot holding V- and PWR release when you see the text. Should reboot to recovery.

If not, your partitions are probably hosed.
Then it's Timmy Deans Rollback tool time. Will have to turn you over to dibs_nz for that one.

That brings me to the screen "Skrilax_Cz's bootloader V8: Booting recovery kernel image." But it doesn't go any further?

Well crap.
Sounds like some partitions are messed.
Try this NVFlash package;
http://d-h.st/32X
It's a version 3 bootloader using NVFlash. Might work.
Put your tab in APX mode (I believe you press and hold the pinhole reset, then PWR. After 3 seconds, release PWR, 2 seconds later release pinhole. Might have to reverse it, don't remember)
Plug tab in. PC should recognize.
Unzip to a folder, open a command window, and run the batch file (type it into the command window, xxxxxxxx.bat then hit enter)
If there's an error, it should show in the command window.
Here is a link to Timmy Deans roll back package;
http://d-h.st/0x7
The issue here, is you need a UID number, which I HOPE you wrote down when you did the V8 bootloader!
MD

Well I cant manually put it into APX mode, tried a few times. Also there is no bat file in that download... as for Timmy Deans roll back package, is it a simple method taht should work? At this point I just want to get my tab working again . And yes I do have my UID number.

Ok,ok.
So this morning I tried to fix it again. And I think i managed to put it in APX mode. Also, I started up APX flash tool and all, did that. Suddenly a cmd window opened and started doing stuff. And now the tablet says in the top right corner "Acer Iconia APX mode", and a yellow glowing 'acer' title in the middle (which is different from what I've been seeing). Another cmd window opened by itself saying "Nvflash started [resume mode]. Where do i go from here??
Thanks!

So I think I've gotten a better understanding of how this all works today. I've tried multiple ways of flashing recovery imgs ect, flashing the bootloader and all that stuff. And all the times I've done this, it always stops at "Nvflash started [resume mode]" and doesn't go any further.
So I'm not really sure what else there is to do.
Please, I need guidance. (below is my last attempt, and what It said in the cmd window).
Flashing bootloader: bootloader_v8.bin ...
Nvflash started
[resume mode]
Formatting partition 4 please wait.. Command Execution failed cmd 13, error 0x12

command failure: format partition failed (bad command)

U guys need to run the babsector.rar file to reset yr tabs partitions and you must have yr cpuid/sbk.
The file and instructions to use it are in post 2 of the root guide in my sig.
If u get any errors you must post the output. You may have a faulty memory chip. If that's the case, a new motherboard is the only fix.

Thank you so much for the reply. I gave up this afternoon and just flashed the ota 4.0.3 version from Acer and it seems to be running really good. The only reason I was looking to flash something new is because the update from honeycomb to ics didn't take very well and I've always been dealing with problems from it. If the flashed version is still running well I might not try a different Rom again. I'll be putting your tip in my notes in case I do. Thanks again.

So I rooted and then flashed a Custom Recovery Image. Then I followed the instructions under the babsector portion of your post. I got to this part: Go back into apx mode and run 501 B.bat, Reboot into recovery and do the wipes, Reboot!!!
I wasn't sure what "do the wipes" referred to so I did ALL the wipes. Cache/Dalvik/Battery/ and Data(?) When I rebooted it went back to the green screen and says in yellow: "Invalid primary (LNX) image." and has the same menu as when I rebooted after 501 A.bat
Now what?
EDIT:
So I was sitting there with the green screen/yellow error and decided to boot into recovery again. I then reflashed my custom rom, and did a normal reboot. Everything is working now! My FIRST custom rom after owning android devices since the ancient Motorola i1 way back in the day. I'd still like to know if what I did was right or what happened, so I can detail it in my instructions for my next custom rom project.

Dude I know it's been 4 years since you wrote that but I just wanted to say you really saved my life, THANK YOU!!!
About 2 months ago I tried to unlock my tablet's bootloader but I gave up after reading different articles and obviously ended up with a really bad headache. Last night I realized Android 3 is really old and I almost can't install anything on it. So basically I gave it another shot and been reading and downloading different files for almost 3 hours. Today I managed to unlock bootloader and use your short instruction (more likely a walk-thru that how you fixed your problem) and it worked!!! I owe you man... I owe you
I even took it to so many different mobile centers about 3 weeks ago but they said its files are not anywhere/we can't do it/it's too risky/it's not possible deal with it

Happy to help!

[TF300TG][Guide] Flashing back the original stock ROM

Hi everyone,
I'm owning A TF300TG model and I recently tried to flash one of the ROMS referrenced on those forums and by doing so I found out that my tablet had lost the 3G features so I had to flash back the Asus stock ROM to get it back.
Since I saw many of you got trouble reinstalling the stock ROM, I decided to write a quick guide on how to do it so everyone could get their tablet fully working again
Note: For the record, when I did the following operations, I already had unlocked the bootloader and installed the CWM recovery.
Disclaimer:
By following this guide, you will have to issue commands that risk to damage (aka. brick) your tablet or at least void your warranty. I won't be responsible for any damage made to your device. You've been warned.

Download the stock ROM zip file on Asus website (current version is [WW | TW]_epaduser9_4_4_28_1UpdateLauncher.zip) for the TF300TG tablet. Be sure to download the firmware matching your SKU.
Unzip the downloaded file, you will get another archive called , unzip this one too
You should end up with several file, with one of them called blob
For the next step, you will need to install the Android SDK to get the fastboot utility. If you do not know how to use fastboot, you should take a look at this guide.
Once you have installed fastboot, boot your tablet into fastboot mode (Plugin your tablet on your computer's USB, Hold down Power+VolDown, dont press VolUp when prompted, select the USB icon and press VolUp)
Open a command line terminal and navigate to the folder containing the blob file.
Then type the following command:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system blob
Click to collapse
For some reason, the transfer seems to fail from time to time, if so, just try again by going back to previous step.
Once the transfer is done and you get that sweet "SUCCESS" printed on your screen, just type the following command to reboot your tablet:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 reboot
Click to collapse
And there you have ! You are now back to stock ROM with fully working 3G
Thanks a lot for this, I found these instructions on Wolf's thread but wasnt sure it would work with our devices, Thanks for taking the first big step.
Questions.
1. Does this wipe your data?
2. Does CWM still work after?
AFAIK, this will wipe your data, remove CWM and uninstall root. Your device's bootloader will still stay unlocked though.
You will have to flash CWM back using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668173
Hi, followed the steps but it didnt work for me
Fastboot copies the file but after when it tries to flash it gives an error
sending 'system' (796653 KB)...
OKAY [137.443s]
writing 'system'...
FAILED (remote: ()
finished. total time: 138.477s
The Tab shows
Failed to process command flash:system error(0x170003)
The progress bar is showing under the USB logo with 1% blue, after hold power down I'm back into Onyx Rom
Any Thoughts?
I had the same problem and I just issued the same command a second time and it worked just fine
Try to format your /system (under the mounts and storage option) from CWM and wipe data and cache.
2nd time a charm!
Worked fine the second time i ran the command,
Im back to stock again :good:
I will wait for a 3G friendly Rom before flashing again
Thanks for your help

only thing that sticks is Unlocked Bootloader
Thanks a million. This worked for me as well after 2 tries. Saved my $400!
Thanks heaps for this
I ended up in trouble when I flashed the TF300T firmware by mistake. It kept freezing and rebooting on me after that little stuff up.
Anyhow before I did that I made a backup with CWM, and after I restored it my 3G was gone but everything else worked fine.
Manual updates were failed though and they still do. At least I have my 3G back :victory:
So this method would probably work for upgrading to .40 as well, but it means a complete datawipe!
I'm sure there are many of us in the same boat now. I guess we will just have to wait and hope that some kind person makes a recovery image for the TF300TG?

Any idea why this will seemingly flash fine, but go to bootloop when I fastboot -i 0x0b05 reboot the tab?
Don't work for me

is a tad wrong. It works, but only by accident.
You should be using
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash staging blob
Click to collapse
The technical reason for why your command works, is because the nvidia bootloader writes files to the staging area before writing it to the partition you specify.
What essentially happens is:
Blob is written to staging
Blob is copied to system (meaning non-booting system)
On reboot, blob is "extracted" from staging and properly flashed.
Step 3 is what makes it work in the end, but you are causing an extra unneeded write to the flash (step 2 is not really needed) (In this case it works, but it potentially increases the risk of bricking)
thx didn´t know that. So all the howto´s are wrong

Your probably running Jellybean, if so this HOWTO does'nt work.
Question: What exactly is supposed to happen? First I tried it and got the fail and did it a second time and it seemingly worked. In my command prompt it ended with
"writing 'system' ... OKAY"
and wasn't doing anything after that in the command prompt and on the tablet there was a full status bar so it looked like whatever it was doing it was finished? So I held the power button and I think it was a boot loop ... it just was the ASUS screen with the spinning circle. So I just did it again, failed the first time did it again and now I am where I left off. I guess I will wait a while and see if it says "SUCCESS" on my tablet? And if not I will put in the reboot command? (I probably should have tried that last time instead of holding the power button I forgot about the last couple lines of the guide )
EDIT: Or is it cuz I am flashing the wrong SKU? I didn't know what one my tablet is supposed to be ... its a cyanogenmod build so I don't think I cant find what the SKU is supposed to be. I went with US SKU because I live in the United States but I don't know if that's what it is
EDIT2: After waiting a while with no "SUCCESS" Windows said that adb.exe crashed or something. So I put in the reboot command but now it seems to be stuck on the ASUS loading screen again.

I have a WW TF300T and had no problem flashing a US version.. so its no SKU problem how long did you wait on the ASUS screen with the spinning circle? It took up to 5 mins for me! just wait a lil bit longer next time.. And there comes no "SUCCESS" on the tablet! only a blue bar that should be full after SUCCESS comes up in your Fastboot-COMMANDLINE.. the reboot with the fastboot reboot command from the first page..just give your tab a bit more time.. its like a babe. handle it with care :silly:
Success!
Hazaa! I can confirm that I managed to flash back to stock by flashing the blob to the staging partition. Like so many other, the first flash failed but the second time worked. I now have working 3G again!

Thanks for the reply 0nyx7!
I had waited a while, maybe 10-20 minutes? But I don't remember entirely. I tried flashing the stock firmware a few times but eventually I just gave up. I didn't like the possibility that my tablet was bricked so I just aborted mission and decided to go back to cm10 where it was safe. I just looked up a post on how to flash Clockworkmod Recovery with fasboot and then flashed a cm10 nightly I already had on my internal storage. So all is good... Mostly.

Post 1: Rooting, Flashing:
- To install an ICS or JB rom you NEED skrilax_cz unlocked bootloader
- Flashing the skrilax_cz bootloader and custom recovery
- Updating or Flashing a different recovery
- ics root methods
Post 2: How to use an update.zip Method
- Fix "Stuck on Acer Logo"
- Revert to stock
Post 3:How to unbrick your Tab...nvFlash Method
- Fix "nvFlash partition errors" with "babsector.rar"
- timmydeans EUU root tool- Repairing "Stuck in apx mode"
- Running nvFlash from the command line
- Archived nvFlash files and original threads
- How to use fastboot
Please read carefully and thoroughly all the steps before you start...if something is not clear then feel free to ask...its easy to softbrick your tab and not as easy to unbrick it...
You will need your CPUID - this cannot be said enough!!! Please do not attempt any flashing until you have a copy of it stored safely!!!
Bear in mind - installing custom roms and a recovery IS NOT DONE the same way as on your phone or other android device!!!
You must install the "skrilax_cz unlocked v8 bootloader" to install a custom rom/recovery
There is alot that can go wrong and you will need to follow the directions to the letter.
If you are stuck with the acer logo on boot or faced with a dead android or a recovery verified failed, when booting to recovery
then you have not followed the correct procedure and at the very best will need to do this all over again.
Before you go any further and while you can still boot into your tab - please retrieve your CPUID - see my guide here
Summary of Steps to flashing the skrilax_cz unlocked bootloader and custom recovery using nvFlash
Step 1. Install the Acer Drivers here and the USB drivers from the Android SDK here
Step 2. Retrieve your CPUID
then head to blackthund3rs site to generate your sbk

Step 3. If you are running factory stock - you will need to rename or delete "the boot.p file" in /system to prevent your custom recovery being overwritten
- Use blackthund3rs ICSRoot here which will rename "the boot.p file" for you
- Have your Custom Rom downloaded and copied to your External SD Card ready to install immediatelyafter flashing skrilax's patched bootloader
- You are now ready to proceed with the "installation" you will also be asked to choose a Custom Recovery (CWM, TWRP,or Public)
Step 4. There are a couple of ways of doing this, manually or with one of the Auto Tools
- civato's manual nvFlash download and Guide and a walkthrough here
- Download gersma's afterOTA Tool if you have OTA'ed to ICS
- Download blackthund3rs apxFlash Tool and a walkthrough here
Step 5.To Manually Enter APX Mode
To get into APX mode, power off the tab.
Then, press the reset button (use a paper clip).
While still holding reset, hold power for 3 seconds.
Then, release power. Release reset after 1 more second.
The screen will be blank, but you are in APX mode (the power light should be on).
Click to collapse
Once the flash is complete, boot directly to Recovery, Do a Wipe and Format and install your Rom!!

When you boot to CWM Recovery, you have a menu item "Wipes"
In Wipes;
1. Data/Factory Reset (don't worry, it skips your photos and such)
2. Cache
3. Dalvik Cache
Wait, you're not finished.
Go back to the previous menu, and select "Mounts and Storage".
1. Format System
2. Format Flexrom

Click to collapse
NOTE: You may need to do a FULL WIPE AND FORMAT - to do this, enter recovery
Click to collapse
In CWM select "Backup and Restore"
click on "Toggle backup and restore of internal storage (/data/media)"

from the main menu select "Mounts and Storage" and "format /data"
this will REALLY format data and all your data and settings will be lost.

I have the unlocked bootloader: how do I update or change my recovery?
Only a few custom recovery's are compatable with ICS Custom roms, I've attached these to this post and they need to flashed via fastboot
Via Recovery:
There are some flashable zips around so copy the zip to your external sd or flash drive
boot to recovery and choose:
Install from zip option
Navigate to the zip and flash!!
Via fastboot see Post 3 for using fastboot
Use Acer Recovery Installer from the playstore
Please note again this is only possible with the unlocked bootloader
I'm on a stock rom, How do I root, I don't want a custom rom or recovery?
If you're happy with Acers Stock Rom?? and just want root, there are a couple of options:
blackthund3rs icsRoot.zip in Step 3 above - extract and run the .exe...Done
Original thread [ROOT] Stock ICS Leak One-Click Root Tool

When Things Go Bad....How to unbrick
Download Links to Unbrick your Tab
1. update.zip method using HC 3.1_Full_Update.zip
Notes on use:
- rename the zip to "update.zip" and flash either using cwm or "pwr/volume down"
- you can flash the v8 bootloader from HC 3.1 if you want to ---
- You can restore a nandroid backup or flash an HC rom from here too, first you need to rootby installing iconiaroot then flash a custom recovery using Acer Recovery Installer
- oh how easy it all was on HC 3.1
- es File Explorer download here
Use this update.zip for any of the following:
- You do not have your cpuid
- You are stuck on the "Acer" Logo
- Your tab boots past the Acer Logo but then boot loops at the boot animation
- You are on the old HC bootloader /ICS Rom combination
- You wish to return to factory stock, and OTA all the way to Stock ICS
You CANNOT use the update.zip method if:
- You are stuck in apx mode
- You have unsuccessfully nvflashed skrilax_cz unlocked bootloader or timmydeans root tool-tdv4
- You have boot verified failed error
(Please see the EUU/nvFlash Method below to repair these issues)
HC 3.1 FULL_update.zip
************************************************************
2. nvFlash/apx/EUU method
you MUST use this if:
- the update.zip has not worked for you
- you do not have an external sd_card
- flashing the unlocked bootloader has failed
- your partitions are screwed up
timmydeans root tool -tdv4- will reset partitions, and downgrades you to a pre-rooted HC3.2.1 with cwm 1.7
To Downgrade using tdv4:
1. Do not connect your tab to your pc
2. Run the tool till you see the window telling you to put yr tab in apxmode
3. Put your tab in MANUAL apx mode using the button combo
4. Connect your tab to your pc now
5. Let the tool continue - you should see the big white PASS when its done!
***********************
BABSECTOR.RAR
***********************
***********************
babsector.rar download here - will reset partitions when tdv4 will not work for some reason
How to use babsector -
Turn your tab off and put it in apx mode manually. Press and hold reset button, hold power for 3 secs after the light comes on and release it, after another second release the reset button. Your screen is black and the power light is on.
On your PC:
Download and extract the .rar to a folder on your PC
Connect your tab to your PC
Navigate to the babsector folder and click on 501 A.bat
On your tab:
Reboot into recovery power/volume DOWN - (closest end to the power button)
Go to Mounts and Storage Menu and
Format - System, Data, Flexrom, Cache
Then flash your ICS/JB rom, power off.
Go back into apx mode and run 501 B.bat
Reboot into recovery and do the wipes
Reboot!!!

3. Stuck with Black Screen and Power LED Light is on
This can happen "just like that" for no particular reason or after an OTA - if this is the case, its more than likely caused by a faulty memory chip on the motherboard - the ONLY fix for this is a replacement m/b from Acer..
Most likely though it happens by trying to flash a recovery or bootloader via Custom Recovery or a Rom Manager or Acer Recovery Installer - the first time bootloader flash must be done using nvFlash - OR if you've tried to flash BEFORE your tab has entered "Acer Download Mode" as displayed on your tabs screen
If you are using one of the auto flash tools and the tool seems to get somewhere - do not carry on -
1. use "safely remove hardware" icon in the PC system tray to eject the "APX Device"
1a. if there is no apx device listed here - then you need to install the drivers correctly then try the flash again...
2. next close the tool down and disconnect the usb cable
3. reboot both tab and PC
4. Once you;re back in windows connect your usb cable to your tab
5 Check the Acer-Picasso boot/recovery driver has installed
6. Proceed with the flash again
Getting out of APX Mode
If worse comes to worse and you are definitely stuck in APX Mode then download the archived file nvFlash.zip which will only flash the v2 unlocked bootloader - to flash a recovery image you'll need to download one and copy it to the nvflash folder.
1) extract "nvFlash" to C:\nvflash
2) pwr your tab OFF and ensure the Pwr LED lite is off
3) Manually put your tab in APX Mode
4) Connect your micro usb cable to your PC
5) Ensure your PC lists an "apx device"
6) Open a command prompt on C:\nvflash
7) Follow the steps below from vache:
vache said:
launch this to load bootloader :
Code:
nvflash --bct bct.bct --setbct --bl bootloader.bin --configfile flash.cfg --odmdata 0x300d8011 --sbk [B]MYSKB[/B] --sync
Of course, change MYSBK with yours.
Next, flash the bootloader :
Code:
nvflash -r --format_partition 4
nvflash -r --download 4 bootloader.bin
If you want to flash a recovery :
Code:
nvflash -r --format_partition 6
nvflash -r --download 6 myrecovery.img
or a new boot :
Code:
nvflash -r --format_partition 7
nvflash -r --download 6 myboot.img
To leave APX mode :
Code:
nvflash -r --go

How to use fastboot
Fastboot works the same as adb by issuing commands from your PC
1. Put your tab in Fastboot Mode - Hold down the Volume UP button and press power button until your tab vibrates
2. Choose fastboot mode from the menu
3. Hook your tab to your PC
4. On your PC navigate to the folder where fastboot.exe/adb.exe are located
5. Open a command prompt on this folder
Run the following commands
Code:
fastboot devices
it should return a ?
To perform a Hard Reset or FULL WIPE your device
then type in:
Code:
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
To flash a "recovery.img"
You'll need an actual recovery.img for this one, I've attached a couple to this post
These can be found in the unlocked bootloader packages
Copy "name_of_your_new_recovery.img" to your fastboot/adb folder
Hook up your PC and on your tab enter fastboot mode
Issue these commands"
Code:
fastboot devices
it should return a ?
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_your_new_recovery.img
should say Done
Code:
fastboot reboot
quickly hold in the volume down button while it reboots - if you time it right it should boot to recovery...otherwise just power it down then try again

Hi
I have my A500 rooted. I DO have my CPUID and SBK
When I tried to flash unlocked bootloader with Blackthund3rs' program, it stucked on Stage 2.
I think I did the Babsector
Run a501 A.bat, but unable to Run a501 B. (unable to get in to APX mode for some reason)
then I used afterOTA (standard method)
Somehow I got the CWM Recovery 1.7.3 on the tab, some Error message when I am in the Recovery.
When I do the wipe and format following this: (from TegraOwner site)
"here's how to:
go to in recovery enter "Backup and Restore" and click on "Toggle backup and restore of internal storage (/data/media)"
should say enabled....
then go into "Mounts and Storage" and "format /data"
I get this:
Backup and Restore /data/media: Enabled
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
Formatting /data...
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p8
Error formating /data!
I am unable to flash the V170, or any other ICS ROM (encryption unsuccessful...)
Able to flash the JB V20, but only with about 60 MB left on the internal storage (I have the 8GB unit), unable to install any apps, only thing I can do is surfing internet.
The Storage under Setting shows:
Internal Storage: total space 0.00B
Micro SD CARD: total space 29.71GB
But when I press the Gallery or camera, it says No Storage, No external storage available.
Do you have any idea about what's going on with my tab? What should I do next?
Thanks

Here is what I wrote a while ago on the TO site:
I am trying to use you APX Flash tool to patch the Bootloader. (using Civato's guide on the Xda forum)
It hung at "Flashing Bootloader (EBT) stage two - uploading image..." and the other black command prompt window shows : Nvflash started [resume mode]
I, then, re-booted the A500, re-installed the Acer USB driver (used Acer link from A500 Manager)
Same as above.
Now I tried use the manual flash following Civato's guide, I got:
Nvflash started
[resume mode]
Formatting partition 4 please wait.. Command execution failed cmd 13, error 0x120002 Failed!
Command failure: format partition failed <bad command>
bootloader status: unknown operation <code: 1> message: flags: 0

Any step guide on how to do this (used the adb thing before to get the SDK, I think, but forgot how now)
I had ICS OTA before, started messing with the tab few months ago, on and off, sorry I could not remember exactly how I got here.
I am not newbie totally, just know enough to be dangerous
Dibb, thank very much for your help
What I have done so far:
Step 1: Did this and my computer can detect my Acer
Step 2: I installed AfterOTA from the link provided and extracted CPUID and SBK (my question: will I be using this anywhere in my flashing process as I dont see it, if so why did I take this?)
Step 3: Since I was nervous to delete that boot.p file right away I moved that into my SD card as backup and used blackthund3rs ICSRoot to root the tablet and succeeded.
- I haven't downloaded the ROM yet as I was looking for the best in the forum, so left this step for last
- I used afterOTA to "install the unlocked bootloader" which will also "flash a Custom Recovery" as advised by you in the email (Bootloader ICS v3.14.8 + Recover Thor v1.7.3)
My big question now is on flashing the custom ROM - am I going straight away from here to recovery mode and do the below as in your thread?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you boot to CWM Recovery, you have a menu item "Wipes"
In Wipes;
1. Data/Factory Reset (don't worry, it skips your photos and such)

being nervous is ok - you normally need root before you move it as its a system file...so just go back and check /system again...you can rename it "....boot.p.old" if that makes u less nervous

yes but I advise a Backup before you do....if anything goes awry at least you'll have that!!!
then flash your rom and reboot
As far as roms go - I've only ever used civato's ones so I'm not much help there, sorry - and I spend so much time 'bricking and unbricking' (research purposes of course!!) I don't really get alot of time just 'playing', lol...but I will say this - most of the custom roms on here are pretty damn good, they're well supported and stable....just check the last couple of pages of the rom thread itself...if theres any user issues at all, you'll find them there....oh and in the OP itself
best of luck m8!!!

its only required if you are flashing a Stock Rom - all of the custom roms are pr-rooted and this file has already been deleted...
If the file is in /system it will remove your newly flashed custom recovery and put back the Acer Stock Recovery {i.e. dead android on its back} if this happens you just need to flash the recovery again

thats ok, we were all new to this stuff at some stage
in the recovery menu you will see an option "backup and restore"
select it and then you will see another menu - select "Full Backup" and let it do its thing...
once its done go back to the main menu and select "Flash Zip from SD Card" then choose the zip of the rom.
Just a note:
In recovery menu your SD Card refers to your external sd card
Your Internal Memory of the Tab itself is called Internal Storage

sorry i'm not too familiar with this tool - I've never had to use it as timmydeans v4 has always worked for me...
From what I can gather, running the 1st bat files uses a different partition to flash cwm 1.7.3 so you can enter recovery and perform a format of /system.
In other words it seems 'resetting the partitions' (like timmydeans tool does) is not enough - you must then do a format of the system partition thru cwm and then run the b.bat to put the original partition table back on yr tab....
You will need to flash a rom directly after using it....formatting system will leave you without an OS but this is not mentioned in anything I've read - you can read more about it here
EDIT: found a good thread for you to read here explains how to use babsector
BTW i'm working the next 3 days so may not be around as much as i'd like....

I was almost ready to try the Fastboot thing you showed me earlier, then after I read this thread, I decided to give the Babsector one more try, using the manual method to get in APX mode per your guide (last time I used the blackthund3's tool), VOILA, it WORKED!! I flashed Civato's Flex-Resurrection_Rev1
and it's rocking (I stayed with 4.0.4 because I want to swap my internal(8GB) with an external (32GB)
h??p://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445720 ), now going to do this, hope it will go smoothly.
BTW i'm working the next 3 days so may not be around as much as i'd like....

N00b trying to upgrade to ICS.
I have a acer iconia a501, There is no ics update here in Canada I believe. It currently has unrooted HC 3.2 kernal 2.6.36.3+ with a build number of Acer_A501_4.452.01_PA_ROG. some of the guides seem pretty long to me. I have tried to install android sdk, however it does not seem to function under windows 8. is there another way to do this?
Go to the bottom of this post and download adb_fast.zip - this is a mini sdk kit with just the drivers - you do have the acer drivers as well, yes?
there have been a couple of issues reported using win8, so try a different micro usb cable and a different usb port on your pc...the acer is very picky when it comes to cables...
If you have access to a linux machine you'll have no probs at all flashing the v8 bootloader
Thank you
Thank you Dibb for responding to me in the other thread. I've got the update downloaded from your post 2 and I have an external SD card to load it onto. Am I correct in thinking there's no connection required between my computer and tablet? I rename the file to update.zip, load it onto the SD card, put that in the tablet and use the power/volume- buttons correct?
Yeh u got it....I think the update.zip is good to go just copy it to yr ext sd. Best to do full wipe too m8 via Android settings...you'll be back to full stock so no custom anything....If it's the 3.1 zip u can take the ota to ics or flash the v8 unlocked bootloader from there, to get cwm...and a custom rom

[GUIDE] Nvflash-ICS Restore

Nvflash-ICS Restore!
This guide will not provide information to install Nvflash-ICS as that is covered well elsewhere.
Once you have read the information on that page click Guide.
All necessary partitions are backed up with Nvflash and you can restore only the ones necessary to recover your unit.
The second method to restore has been removed until further study can be done!
If your problem can't corrected using this information and normal use of recovery, adb, and fastboot go to this post to access the IRC channel for all Asus transformers using nvflash.
I have finished installing Nvflash but where are my files?

Special thanks to wha2do and daws for their input!
Also wha2do has posted a guide to enter APX that provides detail not found here! Please see his guide and give proper thanks if you find it helpful!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...3#post36159253
1.To enter APX mode you either have to boot, choose reboot (if available) and hold volume up pressed until it reboots and then the screen should remain black. Or if that doesn't work, completely shutdown your tablet and wait a second or two and then hold volume up pressed while pressing power on and keep it pressed until screen is blank.
or
2.fastboot -i 0x0B05 reboot (hold volume up)
or
3. adb reboot (hold volume up)
or
4. with unit powered on hold volume up and press reset with paperclip - (don't press hard)
reset is located about 25mm or 1in below the sdcard
or
5. su
reboot -hold volume up.
This is done using a terminal; Android terminal is free from the play store. You must be rooted for this to work.
or
6. Another way:- Provided by daws
Power off the tablet and don't touch the power button again.
Connect USB cable to tablet but not to PC yet.
Press volume up and then connect USB cable to PC.
Wait a few seconds before releasing volume up button. You should now be in APX mode.
Thanks for the help daws.
or
Only if there is no other resort!
7. remove cover from unit, disconnect battery, press and hold volume up, reconnect battery!

[DEV][TOOL][BRICKPROOF]TF300 NVFlash release!
There's something I've not been quite clear about with NVFlash.
So I do my backup and keep my files.
Afterwards I upgrade to Jelly Bean (because I need the JB bootloader for ROM's right?), put TWRP recovery on, and flash a new ROM that uses the bootloader version I have.
So now I have the JB bootloader, can I still enter APX mode and do a restore, or do I have to remain on ICS bootloader to do a restore?
Is NVFlash truly unbrickable? A glance at this forum shows loads of bricks, would this have sorted their problem if they backed-up first?
Thanks!

1. Using blob UI, I typed "u" for unpack, then "blob." It returned with "cannot open 'b'";
2. Typed blobunpack.exe blob. Gave me all the files as shown in attached thumb, except LNX. Where did I go wrong?

I'm having problems with the UI myself. It worked properly when posted. We probably have had an update that broke the UI. I'll remove the link. The tools are easy to use without the UI.
You don't have an LNX extension but you do have boot.img which is the same partition. Did you possibly rename the file and forget? Packing and repacking are still working properly for me including LNX.
I also updated the download link. The link now shown is for the version that can sign when blobpacking.

No recovery
Hello Everybody,
I followed the instructions to restore my device however when my tf300t reboots I can't get the device into recovery mode. It will start up into android or if I hold the volume down during restart it says "platform pre os boot configuration cold booting linux". I download a ICS twrp img recovery file from here for the tf300t. "http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/tf300t"
My only options at this point are to enter APX mode or boot into android.
If somebody could help me install a recovery so I can use custom roms I would appreciate it!!!!!
Thanks,
Mike

Use nvflash again to flash only twrp.
or
Other options
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery twrp.blob
fastboot -i 0x0B05 reboot
or if rooted
adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/twrp.blob of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4 Then reboot to complete installation.
adb reboot
I use 2.5.0.0 twrp as I have problems with 2.6.0.0.

Thanks tobdary for replying back. I tried other versions of the recovery but none seem to work. I can't do that fastboot method because I dont get the fastboot option when the I hold the volume down and power like I did when the tablet was bone stock. I can't get su access on the tablet because its not rooted anymore once I reinstalled the nvflash rom so I cant try and flash recovery that way either. I'm really stuck and not sure why this isn't working!
Thanks,

Do you know where I can find the stock recovery? Is it something ziped in the original rom file?
I was able to root the tablet using a program that that uses a exploit while android is running. I then could adb through su access and flash different twrp recovery blob files to the tablet. Though the tablet rebooted and showed a blue line with recovery being installed when I restarted I have no options to load recovery, fastboot, or linux. I'm thinking the bootloader is corrupt. I own a tf201 and might have accidentally used one of the hairybean 2.3 (4.2) bootloader updates for that device on this one. Is there a way to get my bootloader back to the original and maybe that will fix it?
Thanks,
Mike

The first thing you flash in this guide is the bootloader. nvflash --resume --download 4 blob.EBT
With nvflash you can flash only what is needed for your situation. If you feel the problem is the bootloader you can flash just that and try again.
What you describe sounds like stock recovery is still working on your tablet. If flashing the bootloader does not help I would use stock 9.4.3.30, unzip once and place the remaining zip on your internal sdcard. You may get an update notification. Accept it and let your tablet do the work. If you don't get the notification reboot your tablet and you should see it then. Doing this will write stock bootloader, recovery, etc.
Stock recovery is the blob.SOS when you blobunpack. Just use the stock 9.4.3.30 blob and use the resulting SOS (recovery.img).

I can access the APX mode.

I don't have BackUp of anything.
I have flashed everything from my ASUS, even the recovery. (I was novice)
Any suggestions or advices please?
What should i do and from where shall i get the needed files, etc...

I have read your previous posts in addition to this one.
There are four vehicles to restore your tablet. (some things can be done within android but you have no access)
1. recovery - stock or twrp
2. fastboot
3. adb
4. nvflash
I notice you also posted in my guide for accessing adb, fastboot, and apx. You were unable to access fastboot, adb, or recovery with those methods.
I don't know of any way to recover through apx without nvflash previously installed and you have no access to the other three methods.

[Q] soft-bricked? my acer iconia a500 please help!

Ok, I seem to be making things worse and worse, so I've come here to beg for help.
TLDR:
my acer iconia a500 was running skrilax_CZ's bootloader V8, I screwed it up (I think) by trying to install ClockworkRecovery.
I was still able to boot into Tegraowners_JB-MR1_ROM_v11t4
I messed a BUNCH more stuff up. a bunch!
Now, I can still see the internal and external SD but when i try to use blackthund3r's tools to root/recovery/custom-mod
it gets stuck when trying to enter APX mode. "No APX devices detected"
I do have the CPUID and the SBK
Longer explanation and details:
I installed Acer's USB drivers: USB_Acer_1.06.1500_A30H_A
I rooted the device using: ICS_rooting_A10x_A5xx --> runit-win.bat
I used blackthund3r's tools: A500APXFlash.exe and A500Manager.exe
I installed a custom bootloader rom: V8-Thor_1.7.3_recovery.a500apx
I installed Tegraowners_JB-MR1_ROM_v11t4 and gapps-jb-20130301-a500-v2
I was happy as a clam for 2 days playing with my fancy tablet.
I installed Superuser App
I made a nandroid backup at least once from the v8 bootloader.
I made a batch Titanium backup
I then tried installing clockwork recovery mod, and I think that's when i screwed myself.
Suddenly the power on + down_volume switch just led to a screen that said "Skrillax_CZ's bootloader V8"
"Booting recovery kernel image" and then it would hang there forever.
I could still boot into Tegraowners_JB-MR1_ROM_v11t4 so I tried to run a restore from Titanium Backup,
it froze halfway through with the message "superuser access denied"
I rebooted, and suddenly most of the widgets/apps are gone, and the back/home/and application navigation
button that are usually on the bottom left corner are also gone!
then I did a bunch of crazy/desperate stuff with blackthund3r's tools, (something involving trebuchet?)
and I finally blacked out amidst tears and despair around 5 am this morning.
so
now, when I use A500APXFlash.exe and A500Manager.exe it tries to put the tablet into APX mode, and the
tablet goes to a blackscreen, with a white LED on the power button, but I get the error "No APX devices detected"
I also tried inserting a paper clip then turning the power on, same result.
I do have the CPUID and the SBK
Please help if you can, and please dumb down your explanations if possible, this is my first tablet and
i'm totally new to android, etc.
Thanks for your time
-Joel
couple more details, it boots to the point where you swipe to unlock it, but when i do, i get a popup that says Trebuchet has stopped,
and when i click ok, it just comes back infinitum
oh, and when i use A500 Manager.exe it says that it's connected and usb debugging is ON, but I have no way of getting into the settings
to confirm that?
I don't want to come across as lazy, I literally have 8 tabs open from xda-developers and 3 from tegraowners. I also just tried afterotav_109 but that didn't do anything.
I found
the following files in
Computer\Acer Iconia Tab A500\Internal Storage\0\.AcerRecoveryInstaller
(see attached picture)
I'm guessing I can't rename recovery.old to recovery, or something easy like that?
small update, installed android SDK and adb shell
when I launch adb shell I can see the various directories on the tablet internal and external SD. I'm in the process of scouring the forums for info about how to use the adb tool to fix my problem, am I even on the right track?
thanks for any feedback y'all can provide

TBH installing T/O's rom you should really be asking on their forum - their roms are a little different to the ones on xda - like, you don't need the v8 unlocked bootloader you can run it on HC or ICS Bootloaders.

Acer recovery installer? OK so I assume you used that to try and flash a recovery? This app works best on HC Bootloader - the only way to use it with ICS is IF you already have the v8.
Also, you must make sure you run the correct recovery for whatever version of ROM you are wanting to flash. So check the OP of your chosen rom for which recovery you need. Most of the ics/jb custom roms here on xda work with cwm 1.7.3, TWRP or public recovery. BUT these wont work on HC
I'm guessing I can't rename recovery.old to recovery, or something easy like that?

You can use an appropriate recovery.img and flash via fastboot
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK so lhow do we get you fixed???
You need to do a complete FORMAT (factory data reset) of your system to get it back to a state where you can use the tools.
Install the adb drivers first!
Lets see if fastboot mode is available.
As long as you see skrilax_cz v8 bootloader on your screen connect yr micro usb cable - power down and boot up holding VOLUME UP button...you should see the fastboot menu now follow the instructions here on using the fastboot commands to WIPE userdata and cache
THEN if you have the correct recovery.img you can flash this too (see that post) if not run the apxflash tool again using cwm 1,7,3.apx file.
Now, once you have run it BOOT DIRECTLY to recovery and flash your rom. (Doesnt matter which one as long as its ICS or JB...)
This is important...if you try and boot yr tabs OS, you'll get either booting primary kernel error or be stuck on the acer logo -
IF fastboot is not available then run the apxflash tool to install recovery instead then using that same post it shows you how to do a full format wipe, with cwm.
I hope this isnt too over the top for you...I've tried to explain things so you can understand a bit better - but I may have to 'dumb' things down a bit more, let me know
good luck with it

Also, you must make sure you run the correct recovery for whatever version of ROM you are wanting to flash. So check the OP of your chosen rom for which recovery you need. Most of the ics/jb custom roms here on xda work with cwm 1.7.3, TWRP or public recovery. BUT these wont work on HC

DIBB IS TEH AWSEOMEMEMEST!!!!!!!
fastoot mode worked!
one thing that threw me off is that I had to figure out that I needed to type
Code:
fastboot.exe flash [B]recovery[/B] recovery_thor17_403.img
the guide here
doesn't specify which partition to use so I got an error message until I guesstimated I wanted the boot partition.
Anyway, once you fixed my bootloader, I restored the full system from a backup I had made on the first of the month.
thank you thank you for your awesome help!
now I can break it again and again!
made a minor edit, changed boot --> recovery in the "code" section above

Glad u got it
Not sure why you had to use fastboot.exe as the command tho? but as long as it worked and you're up and running, that's the main thing!
happy flashing

Edit: have edited guide to show recovery partition - thank for picking that up

Windows A500 NVfash Bootloader Script

Hi Everyone
A while back I was having all sorts of problems trying to flash a patched bootloader to my Acer A500 So that I could install a custom recovery, Custom ROMS , etc...
Well thanks to some help from this awesome site, and a member here that pointed me to an NVFlash archive (Bab-Sector) with a script in it and it worked perfect. The Script however was using the V8 bootloader instead of V9, and I wanted to go with the V9 Bootloader 03.14-EXT So I updated the scripts to install the bootloader to SkrilaxCZ v9 Patched for Acer A500, and I also added Thor2002ro CWM 1.7.3 touch, instead of 1.7. 1.7.3 works a whole lot better
*****************************IMPORTANT**************************
Before using these tools make sure to back up your tablet first, and have a good ROM ready to install once you have your patched bootloader installed. Using this tool to Install the patched bootloader will render your current ROM unusable. You will have to install a new ROM as soon as your finished. This will also fix all the partitions on your tablet, so that they are all correct, but in doing it destroys your current install.
So any way here is a quick guide to flash the patched V9 bootloader file on your Acer A500:
Before you Continue:
You will need to know your SBK
And you need to have all the proper Acer USB drivers installed.
Plus you will need this file: A500-Bootloader-V9_Babsector
Extract the contents to some folder, and open the folder.
Now power off the tablet, and while it is connected to your PC via USB take a paperclip and press the reset button (located on the side next to the full size USB port, a small hole) and the power button, slowly count to 3 then release the power button, count one more to 4 and then release the reset button. Now your tablet is in APX download mode.
Open the folder where you extracted the bootloader and tools. Double click the file a501 A.bat. Enter your SBK.
The bootloader will be flashed, and Thor2002ro CWM 1.7.3 Custom Recovery will be installed, upon completion the screen will say PASS.
Now hold down the power button until the tab turns off, then hold the vol down button along with the power button to boot into CWM. Once in CWM navigate to the mounts and storage menu, then format system partition twice. Now go back to the power menu, and power off the tablet.
Now you need to boot APX download mode again, take a paperclip and press the reset button and the power button, slowly count to 3 then release the power button, count one more to 4 and release the reset button. Now your tablet is in APX download mode again.
Back to the folder where you extracted the bootloader and tools again. Now double click the file a501 B.bat.
The bootloader will be flashed again, and Thor2002ro CWM 1.7.3 Custom Recovery will be reinstalled, upon completion the screen will once again display PASS. You are finished, and you have a good custom recovery, along with the best patched bootloader for the A500.
Now you are ready to install custom ROMS from Thor2002ro CWM Touch.
If you decide that you no longer want to have the patched bootloader you can restore your A500 to complete stock ICS4.0.3 with this ROM: Stock ROM Acer_AV041_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1
You can flash this ROM with CWM or rename it to update.zip and place on root of external SD and the stock recovery will install it also. after the ROM has installed the tablet needs to reboot and the bootloader will be installed, then the tab will reboot, and you are back to 100% stock Acer_AV041_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1. You will not have root, and the bootloader will also be stock. This is the file you need if for some reason you should ever need to have your tablet sent to Acer, to be worked on. under warranty for example, or if you just want to have the tablet returned to stock.
I really hope this little guide helps someone, I know that a few months ago this would have helped me out when I could not flash my bootloader from windows with either the Black Thund3rAPX tool or AfterOTA, both of which are excellent tools, but for some reason they just would not work with my tab until after I had flashed my bootloader with NVFlash the way I explain here.
Also I need to point out that the scripts and tools included in the bootloader archive are originally the Bab-Sector tools. I just updated the bootloader files to SkrilaxCZ V9 Bootloader, with the green Acer logo, and the Custom Recovery to Thor2002ro CWM Touch 1.7.3
Thanks
- Kaiji
Omg! Thank you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've been trying for two days to get a custom recovery to install. I too used Blackthund3r's tools, but nothing was working. I think my partition table was screwed. It took me forever just to get the drivers to recognize APX mode. Google's generic driver's > Acers! Again thank you so much.

Nice guide Kaiji...a quick question. Do u know why babsector requires u to run both bat files. A few folks have just run the first one, done the formats then flashed their rom. Seems no one had any problems. Could u explain ( to a noob like me how babsector actually works? ??

Actually both of those batch files are identical, I believe that the original writer wanted to be sure that any corrupted data, and or partitions were repaired. And that is exactly what they do.What happens is after the tab is in apx mode a temporary rw bootloader image is uploaded, and then the file correctly maps out and create the partitions needed for you tablet, then it uploads the bootloader, and recovery images. now with your new patched bootloader you can boot to custom recovery, install custom ROM's, and you could even install a second OS and set up a dual boot scenario, Skrilax_CZ has some really great tutorials on this here. You will also find that Blackthund3r's tools will also work now too.

I am very happy that you, a senior member, actually thinks the guide is good. It really does mean a lot ( to a noob like me
I have actually just been poking around, and learning alI I can. I have always been a big fan of the Linux system, and the fact that it is now, in its Android form so huge world wide, on smartphones, and tablets everywhere is awesome!!
Any way I do really love that Android is based on the open source Linux code, and since it is, it's 100% customizable, hackable, & rewritable, sweet!!.
Oh yeah, To continue on a bit more about babsector, from my last post. The way that babsector actually works is this, while the tablet is is the NVidia APX download mode, the program NVFlash can then upload the special temporary APX mode bootloader image with rw abilities so that NVFlash can then set the partitions, and upload you patched bootloader. At least I believe that is how it all works. As I said I am just poking around, hehehe, an old linux user trying to learn all I can and then pass it on so everyone can enjoy the full potential of their devices.

Hmm, I wonder what the problem could be.... I would say for starters, try reinstalling the drivers, reboot, and try the script again. making sure to runit as Administrator. Also do you have AfterOTA? send me a PM after you try reinstalling your drivers, and if you are still having trouble tomorow, I will PM you my phone # and I will do my best to help you solve this over the phone.
I will be online tomorow around 12:00 noon EDT and will look for your PM and/or a reply

No problem , I am very glad your problems were resolved. And, if you don't mind, I have a few questions for you.
1. What exactly went wrong in your situation?
2. Which tablet are you using?
3. And, how did you solve your problems exactly?
The reason I ask is that each tablet/software combination may each be a little unique, and the details of your experience can be very helpful to others as they encounter their own situation, and most of all we can always learn more from everyones different case, and apply that knowledge to improving the ability to help in the next case. Also, please try to be as detailed as possible, if you decide to answer the questionsI asked.
Thank you very much for your input

Well it got me from only booting to APX mode to having a bootloader, but I'm still having problems. I ran the script and got the PASS screen. Now it boots to the bootloader but I'm no longer able to use the reset button to get to the APX mode. Even when I hold the reset button while powering on, it just goes to the bootloader. It also does this just powering on without press the -vol button. I'm assuming this was because I was also getting an error message say the Lnx kernel was invalid.
So I went ahead and flashed the A500-stock.zip and no longer get the invalid kernel message but it still boots to the loader menu with the options Primary (LNX), Recovery and Fastboot. But when I choose the first option it hangs on the first screen saying "Booting Android Image from LNX partition..." Revovery takes me to the recovery menu and Fastboot connect me to my PC in ADB mode.
Any suggestion about where I go from here?

im having the same problem as u were having with the attachments on the error codes u got can u share some light to me on the solution u was told to use
Im about at my wits end and gonna make a paper weight out of this thing I guess. I had recovered it with the Timmy Dean tool once already, and was on HC for about a week. I wanted to upgrade to ICS. So I tried to flash to bootloader but somehow got to where I can only boot into APX mode. I keep hanging on every tool I use. Here is a screen shot of the error when using the babsector in this thread. As far as I know I have the correct drivers from Acers site, but not sure about the adb drivers. I have them, but they don't "install" like the acer drivers did. How do I know they are correct? See my error attached photo. Is it possible to have something so messed up that even though apx mode works, it still wont flash itself out of the problem?
Need help with running A501 A.bat
Hi there. I put my tablet into APX mode by following the instructions above. However, when I run the A501 A.bat script, it reports that "USB device not found"
I have my tablet connected to my desktop via a USB-miniUSB cable. The connection works fine when the tablet is on, but it doesn't register it when the tablet is in APX mode
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Just a couple suggestions, I would start by making sure you have a known good micro USB cable, make sure it's plugged into a USB 2.0 port directly connected to you motherboard and not a USB hub or a USB 3.0 port as those can cause problems. The last thing I would recommend is to use Windows 7. Windows 10 may or may not work with this method as this tablet is pretty old. You can use a virtual machine to run Windows 7 and it should work fine. Hopefully this helps a bit.

I am unable to connect directly to the motherboard, as my PC is actually a laptop, and I don't really want to try and open it up. I did manage to use a vm and try this on Windows 7 with no luck . If anyone has any other suggestions I'm all ears. The only thing that I think might be causing these issues is that I'm using a USB 3.0 port (My laptop doesn't have 2.0 ports), so I'll update this reply once I find a computer that has usb 2.0 ports.
Also, do I need to install a custom recovery before running the A500 A and A500 B scripts? Are there tutorials on how to do that? I think I ran into issues last time I tried because I hadn't unlocked my bootloader (tablet wouldn't enter recovery mode). But, if I understand it correctly, the instructions for this thread tell you how to unlock the bootloader, but it also requires the custom recovery or else you lose your stock rom. It's quite a catch 22

Yes you need to unlock your bootloader before you can get a custom rom or a custom recovery. But to do that you need root first. Also when I said connect your USB cable directly to your mother board I meant just any USB port on your motherboard.

That would still involve opening up my laptop, no? Also, I don't think that the USB cable is the issue, as I am able to connect just fine when the tablet is powered on, but not in APX mode. Also, I have tried rooting it before with a couple methods, both of which failed in one way or another. I'm open to trying out some other method(s) if you have a suggestion
