[Q] Constant signal loss - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This seems to be an occurring issue for me everyday while using my Nexus 4. I would lose signal completely, and it would not ever find signal again, unless I switch airplane mode on and off really quickly. This happens when I'm at school, in certain classrooms. It's weird because on my old phone, I would get 2-full bars anywhere in the school (I'm on AT&T and have been for years). Any ideas on how to fix this?
I'm running PA 3.10 4.2.2 with Trinity Kernel, if that helps.
Thanks!

Try a different sim card of the same provider. Usually sims. Us be exchanged every 3-4 years.
They are vulnerable to ESD and poems occur if they have been bent.
Good luck

Im on my third sim and I still get this. Constantly losing signal and other phones with the same provider which is tmobile don't have this problem. I was hoping the update would fix this but it hasn't. I might have to rma as I can only think it is a hardware issue

Hows your G2 after OTA?

Hows your phone doing now guys? I was having alot of restarts before the update, atleast 1-2 day and my phone hasnt restarted since the update. Signal strength seems stronger....
Never got any reboot even before OTA
battery life seemed fine, can 't really notice signal improvement
got a useless wifi calling (I am not Tmo user)
and damn it storage is still 1.15GB!
Never had a problem before.
After, I seem to be getting better signal but battery life has gone to the sewer... And I'll never use tether or wifi calling....
Why won't you be using wi fi calling?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Bcs no everybody needs wifi calling . I'm using tmo and I probably won't be using wifi either not bcs its pointless but bcs I personally don't need it. Even tho I haven't received the update

i've used the wifi calling, I don't consider it useless. i have a low sig strength in my house ( 1 bar if im lucky). Its great now i get great coverage plus being able to use it internationally is a plus

Because I get 4 bars of coverage in my house and my office which happens to be in the middle of a middle floor of the building (ie, I get great coverage).
For some reason, the battery does seem to be doing much better so far today, I'll give it a couple more days before I decide to un-do the OTA
from what i have read about the wifi calling is if you use wifi calling internationally, you will be charged roaming. you cant turn the radio off and use just the wifi app when you call, phone has to register on the towers wherever u are
I haven't gotten any improvements. Battery life is the same, reception is the same, I never had random reboots before, I'm still getting FC's about 10 times a day, and I'm still at about 1.1GB for internal phone storage.
I don't have wifi in my house so wifi calling is moot, and I have no need for tethering... hopefully the next update will actually get me something useful.
my G2 seems to last even longer than I did before when I use it on EDGE. And I have a better signal. at my job I get one bar usually and wifi calling is a great plus for me at work.

i never had a prob with my g2 before update, but now wifi is broken no matter where i am i cannot connect to wifi, is anyone else having this issue?
I seem to have much less drops after ota, and faster data latency
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Same issue before and after.. dropped calls, maybe a slight improvement.. maybe.
Waited for the OTA update.. since I get the same issue I asked for a replacement and they're sending one. Love this phone when it works well.
Well I had a ton of random reboots before the update. I had to pull the battery at least twice a day. After the ota I havnt had one reboot so far. I updated yesterday. Will update if problems come back
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
i never had any problems, but the ota seemed to give me H in more areas. Mainly my house, where there is no damn reception at all it would jump from 2 bars edge to 1 bar H. the wifi calling was a blessing for me. i finally know wut its like to have full reception at my home
Before update, I never had random reboots, bad reception, wifi issues, etc.
After update, haven't noticed any improvements. I'm using a different battery so can't say about stock battery
Sent From My G6
Well, got my first power off on Saturday since the OTA, had to pull the battery. And a few hours after while browsing Facebook got the good 'ol reboot to HTC screen. Sigh.
Also, the signal seemed to be better right after the OTA, but over the weekend was having lots of hopping from UMTS/HSDPA to No Service>GPRS>EDGE where it would hang for about 5-10 minutes then go back to UMTS/HSDPA. All while sitting still on a table in my living room, where my myTouch3G 1.2 would stay 3G the whole time.
Because of that I used a lot of WiFi over the weekend. Is it normal for the G2 disconnect from cell service when enabling WiFi and then to not connect back to cell service after disconnecting from WiFi for a good 3-5 minutes? Again, the lame myTouch3G never did that. Either way, time to call T-Mobile and report issues again so I can justify what is likely another return.
So far the battery life improved by at least 3 fold for me with WiFi Calling on preferred. While at work and at home, the signal defaults to WiFi and shuts off the regular cell radio and it is nice.
That said a new development has arisen for the last day or so and I get a connection error to T-Mobile's network. It says that I am currently registered with the T-Mobile Network. Would You like to register to enable WiFi Calling? I hit register and nothing happens. Anybody else encounter this yet?
Before OTA, some random reboots (about 3 times in 2 weeks), pretty week signals at work, in bedroom and part of the way to work. After OTA, no random reboots yet, better signals everywhere I've noticed bad signals before....and, I no longer get that random signals switching from H->E->G->NS... Liking the G2 much more now after the OTA. I personally have not used the WiFi calling or the Tethering, so, no comments there.

G2 radio issues......

How wide spread are these issues. I'm on my 3rd phone now and a side from an annoying dead pixel my phone still fades in and out while on voice calls to the point where I can't even catch a full conversation sometimes. Also drops calls.
The OTA did not help the problem one bit.
Is this something that will be/could be fine tuned? I've read the nexus never had a good radio compared to "other" phones.
As much as I like this g2 I can't have the poor voice quality issues.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
For me, the radio got a tad better after the ota. I still get **** reception at home, but now it seems like it doesn't drop signal like before, but then again, I just installed the ota and rooted last night on the stock rom.

I got lucky the first time through, my hinge was pretty tight, i had 3.2 gb free space in my phone, and had one one minor antenna issue. Once a week or so I would drive somewhere and when I would look at my phone i would have an X and no bars. Only way to fix it was to restart, since it only happened once a week i didnt really bother with it. The OTA Fixed that problem so im just very lucky this phone around
ps: jk about the 3.2 gb, i got around 1.3 gb like everyone else
I am still seeing radio issues after the OTA. By switching it to airplane mode, then back to non-airplane mode (versus a rdeboot), the issue is temporarily resolved. Makes me think its a s/w issue with the radio. During the initial release I had to reboot to get a lock on GPS (a few times).
Hoping cell reception gets fixed in an upcoming OTA. Sucks having worst reception than my G1. Until then, wifi calling is saving the day at my house.
The only thing we can do is keep complaining and hope they listen.

Sounds like it might not be a specific phone issue.
I really want to keep this phone but the radio is unacceptable! My wife's BB gets 3g throughout the house, and not only that she can talk on it without issues....

Same with me for the most part. I just did the airplane mode trick, and it's the first time I've had to since the OTA. I have had the data drop plenty of times since the OTA, but after a few seconds it would come back again. The OTA was supposed to address this radio recovery problem, but clearly it didn't fix everything. I think I'm going to call customer service again and let them know.
On a side note I believe the issue I had today was with the XP tether driver. I think it's rather buggy as it tends to get stuck connected regardless if there is a phone tethered to the computer, and I have to restart! I still have had the data connection drop since OTA, but it usually fixes itself.

Count me in. I'm on T-Mobile us. I upgraded to nexus a week or so ago from HTC hd2. I had almost full bar on my reception most of the time. Some times it might dropped down by a bar or 2. Ever since I used the nexus s, my phone is only stayed at 1 bar 95% of the time. I'm testing this all in one room and a particular part of the room because I'm there most of the time when I'm home. Anyone got a reason or fix? I've had one instance that someone called me 6 times in a row and the call never went through. After I found out, I tried making calls and the call features locked up. So I rebooted the phone and it went back normal.

Ya and also the wifi bar goes down and my x10 gets full bar
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I've had similar experiences with the Galaxy S and the Vibrant I had before. Maybe it's a Samsung issue....
Sometimes I have full bars, but when I try to make a call it attempts to ring, then it fails and it just goes to locked screen. It can be really frustrating.
Mine is stock, not even rooted.
im also running rogers nexus s stock and keep having issue with reception bar and wifi bar . anyone? know whts wrong anyone?
same here, i go from 4 solid bars to 1 all of my data based apps disconnect (tunein/maps) then it takes about 5 seconds to get everything back. i know theres been consistent radio issues with this phone but im not too familiar with the specific

Nexus S wifi strength extremely low

Its usually only one bar several feet away from my router any ideas?
I'm not far from my router either and I find it hit or miss most days. The iPhone gets perfect wifi reception. Waiting and hoping for a fix.

Same here, wifi reception is terrible compared to other phones i've used.
I have the t-mobile version and I can just barely get the signal of a G router through a cinderblock building about 40 feet away....so I think mine is fine. I'm gonna assume all three of you have the NS4G?
Meh, it's the same for me coming from an EVO.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Same here. Where I normally sit in my living room is no more than about 20 feet from the router and my phone will get 2 wifi bars at most then completely drops the signal for no reason. Even at work I'm about 3 feet from the router and I get 3 bars at best. I had more no reception areas with 2.3.4 but I notice a lot more 3 bars to no connection when sitting in the same spot with 2.3.5.
Going to go to the Sprint store after work and see if I can get a new phone. It will be interesting to see how they handle this being a new customer that bought one of their premium phones. I like the phone itself but this newish issue of good signal to none is annoying.
*update*
Took my phone to the local Sprint store and they duplicated my poor signal issue. They said they wanted to clean the wifi antenna which I knew wasn't going to do anything but I let them work on it. Come back to pick it up and they said no change after cleaning the antenna and would order a replacement phone that would be in by Friday. As much as I liked my phone rooted its issues like this when I'm glad its not and can drop in for service issues without having to restore my phone back to stock.

I think it will be better since the wifi reception slowly got worse over the last week and a half. Now its started to do the grey bars of reception so its seeing a signal but nothing is getting transferred and I am also getting "no connection" errors when going to the market and sometimes when using the browser. Hopefully the replacement will last till the next Nexus comes out. I don't see myself leaving the Samsung platform though because I've yet to use a phone with a display like this Nexus S.
I noticed this issue and it coincided to when I started to try new roms, now I am using blandroid, but I will try to flash other roms, maybe is a wifi module issue.
I get only the two lower "bars" being at 30cm from my router. :S kinda worries.
It is sad, my fiancees ipad gets 3/4 bars (sometimes a full 4) and while i'm in the bed next to her my ns4g get s 1 bar max... and we are one room away from the router in an apartment.
same deal here. my evo4g gets 2-3 bars. my nexus after 2.3.5 gets 0-2 bars in my bedroom only 20 ft and one wall away from the router.
I am inclined to think maybe is a module problem, as before it used to work perfectly.
I get crappy wifi too. I'm about 20ft from router and it struggles. My ps3 is fine though.

All of my devices have great reception as opposed to my nexus. These past 2 days have been awful
There is definitely some issue with wifi/3G reception of Nexus,as I see dozens of thread here yelling out its incapability.
I hope they will fix it soon.

G2 randomly losing data signal...

Hi all,
Got a bit of a strange one and whilst I don't normally ask for help on here I am at a loss on what to do to fix the issue I am having.
My LG G2 seems to be dropping it's data connection, and struggling to reconnect. It is usually happening when I have low signal and even when I am back up to full signal (and have waited a decent amount of time) it will not reconnect. The only way to fix it is a reboot of the handset.
It has done this on two different roms so don't think it is rom related, and have tried reinstalling the baseband... With no success.
Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this and what else I could try?

Are you on EE? Me and my friend noticed the 3g network has been flaky the last few weeks.

Orange... So basically the same thing yeah.
To be honest I did think it was strange as it started quite randomly and not when switching Rom etc. Fingers crossed it's just a temporary issue with the network then. Thanks for posting!

I have a similar issue. Losing cellular connection in its entirety. Rebooting seems to be the only fix. I'm certain it's a hardware issue.
