Defy Wifi Drain - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I`ve noticed something : my wifi is draining battery in standby extremly....
I`m very carefull about my applications in background, so alot of them are freezed or closed.
Well, when on wifi , the phone is in deep sleep nad battery is draining without any transfer...
I made an experiment: closed wifi and activated mobile data. The battery drain is half of the one with wifi only...
So...my conclusin is that the wifi adapter inside the phone is eating battery in stand by....while the data modem is not ...
You had same probem before ?
I have CM 7.2

[Q] Wifi Drains Battery on Touch HD

I have an HTC Touch HD..I'm currently booting Android Froyo 2.2.. But even without booting Android, using wifi on my HD drains the battery so fast. I lose more than 1% of battery each minute! which means my 100% of battery is gone within 100 minutes and less ( 1 hour and a half). I thought the problem could be the battery; so i bought a new one. It works great without wifi and would last me 2 days. But with wifi it's a disaster. I manually changed my broken screen.. could i have left out a wire that could be causing this drainage? Please help.. i need to use wifi on my phone! Thanks
Hi,
I'm on FRX6 and I get about 8 hours of batery life with wifi on.
It may be the case that you have damaged something when changing the screen.
I guess that wifi drains battery on any OS (Droid, WM, Symbian, Windows, Linux) doesnt even matter what device do U use. Same with BT. You can slightly prolong battery time with changing performance/battery life siettings (in WM U can - under advanced WIFI settings), or using external antena on router, or by decreasing distance between phone and AP.

WiFi battery drainage

I've got a problem with WiFi consuming too much battery. I fully charged my phone and did not touch it while it was connected to WiFi. After 2.5 hours, it was at 88% saying most of it was consumed by WIFi and standby mode.
I have "WLAN optimization" turned on. I never had this kind of problem before with other phones - does anybody have an idea what I could do to reduce the battery usage?

Click to collapse
maybe you have apps synchronizing and draining the battery, try greenify app to hibernate what you dont need when phone is on standby mode.

[Q] S5 fast battery drain with wifi on

All of a sudden, my S5 has started experiencing quick battery drain when wifi is turned on. If I turn wifi off, I get very good battery life.
Any advice?
Same here. Suddenly started on android 5 with custom rom.
Till now I have reset/factory reset, try another rom, try back to stock but still not working.
When I turn wifi on an there is a huge drain. I'm talking about 100-0 in just 13h without usage.
If just mobile network is turned on everything is allright and there are three days battery life.
I have watched with battery doctor etc for some reasen but there is no awake or something.
In battery usage there are missing 80% of used battery just don't listed.
Sounds for me like it's an hardware issue?
Thanks for any help
Sorry for bad english

Marshmallow wifi battery drain bug..

After installing marshmallow to note 4 910F, I found out to much battery consumption.. It was more obvius when i left phone at night, connected with my wifi router. It had 20-30% battery consumption at 7 hours. Phone on, wifi on, rest off.
If i turn off wifi, no battery drain.. I loose 3%.
Even with 4G on, and wifi off, i loose much less!!
I tried more than 4 roms 6.01, factory erased everything, even safe mode. Always wifi drain.
In lolipop i had about 3% drain with the same.
Searching in net, i found out same problems mostly with nexus (probably because they had first of all marshmallow and they find it first..). I also found the same for note 5.
Many say to set router to 2.4 gihahz, set static ip, turn off something like v6 ip protocol? I don't remember well.
Also i read, mostly problem exists if router have huawei chip.
Checked mine, and it did had huawei chip..
Anyway i didn't found a solution for this. Tried better battery stats and found out tha alarms was for long time. Sleep was 85%, when normal would be 97%.
I also have a photo showing bigger drain in wifi than 4G.
Anyway how problem solved? I changed router and with everything same, i loose 3%....
But when i connect to other routers coffe, etc, if they have the same chip i still have drain there.
I probably find out the problem in note 4 first of all, as i dont read anything searching so, i inform others here.
note marshmellow battery drain
hope this helps. had the same problem of battery drain and not being able to put phone in power saving mode. i stumbled upon things that the update cuts on and you have no idea, anyway, it seems that the update has the search for other devices running 24/7 and you have to go in and switch it off. since then power mode has been enabled and stays on and battery life is back.
hello , guys .. beezyb can you explain with steps ?! you said that it seems that the update has the search for other devices running 24 hours / 7 days and i have to go in and switch it off ... bla bla .. what you mean with that ? !! can you help me ? !

Battery drain...

I have removed all the unnecessary crap (ADB). When I charge to 90% in the morning, there is about 30-40% battery left in the evening. And this is when the tablet is not being used.... Is this normal?
Install GSam Battery Monitor and see what's eating up your battery.
Kernel and android...
so, the battery drain problem turned out to be wifi - with wifi off the tablet lasts more than a week without charging, at least in my case.
I use the WiFi Automatic app to turn wifi on and off automatically.
