Hi Everyone,
I like to think of myself of pretty proficient user. I have been pretty good at figuring things out since the Cupcake days..but this particular issue has plagued me for some time now and I'm not sure if there is a solution. I have also done a ton of online searching with no success..but I cannot imagine that I am the only one having this problem. In the old days, the default Google search in Android would perform the search in the Android browser, allowing you to open multiple tabs from the results. Ever since they made the search a seperate app, we lose that ability. Now, you have to search, open result (launches browser) and navigate back to Google Now to every time you want to open another tab. Is there any way around this?? Is there a way to open multiple tabs on your browser from the Google Now search results? Thanks in advance!
Just use the browser to search

If you're interested in multiple searches, why not just search directly from the browser in different tabs? It would save you a step for sure... especially if you have voice keyboard activated.

What is the fastest, quickest, speediest way to search for a contact? with or without an application
the universal search app. part of donut 1.6 and included with cyanogenmod experimental.
you mean the hardware search button? that just searches online, unless I first open contacts and then use it. Can I get a shortcut to directly search contacts?
no, the universal search app. it behaves in a similar manner to spotlight on OSX - searches your handset for contacts, web history, music etc. The results of which appear directly beneath the search bar.
ok, don't think I have that, in the 'about phone' section is says firmware 1.5. How can I upgrade to 1.6? I have a vodafone magic so not sure if that's possible. Or is there another way to get the app? There seem to be plenty of search apps on the market but don't think any of them are what you are describing
to get it you will need to flash CyanogenMod ROM
Oh ok, will look for an app that can do a similar job, as I can't be bothered to erase and reinstall everything. Thanks.
You Don;t have to.............

Download "aurora" Free off the android Market , its exactly the same as the universal search and to top it off it was actually made by a Dev on this forum. You'll see the thread in the Dream forum if you wish to have a look at the dev

actually downloaded it a few mins ago, brilliant app, just what I wanted and more!
Its by far my favorite and most used app/widget.
But theres 2 things bothering me , not sure if im understanding why its happening.
1.I open an article . "Javascript is turned off please check safari settings and turn back on" with a giant overlay blocking much of the article.
2. The most recent news articles not being cached. I rely on it being cached to read on the subway. But many articles never seem to load up.
I have refresh settings at every 3 hours. Do I have too many news items trying to load ? Not enough disk space ?
Also is there a browser setting to change that first error ?
Nothing I seem to do makes any difference on these.
Anyone have any insight ?
My biggest annoyance: there's no direct way to open an article from the News widget onto the default browser. For example if there's flash on the page and I want to use the Desire browser... There's no way to launch the page directly.
As far as something that might help you, try out NewsRob. By far one of the most AMAZING apps ever. Definitely my favorite app bar none. It downloads all items in your Google Reader for offline reading.
This is incredible for me because I work in an area with no cell reception (too many floors above me) and no wifi. For you in a subway, it might be awesome too. (Especially since anything in the News Widget can be put into Google Reader.) Check it out: NewsRob on the Market.

Unfortunately, I've never actually used the caching feature of the News Widget. NewsRob is just that good
Confused by NewsRob or by Google Reader?
I was wondering if GingerBread addressed the Universal Search issue. I've heard that the Atrix is anything but Universal when searching your device. My BlackBerry does a good job of searching through...
Contacts, Calendar, Email, Google Search, Text Messages, Bookmarks, Browser History, MemoPad, Pictures, Videos, Music and the list goes on.
...the only thing I wish my BlackBerry included is Files & Folders on device and SD Card.
You know...a TRUE Universal Search.
Makes me think I need to create an app for that! Windows 7 got the right idea of being able to type a few letters in the start menu to find programs/docs to open, etc. instead of trying to remember which windows to open to find what you want.
That little Search Icon in the lower right corner of the Atrix can be SOOOO much more powerful and SHOULD be! I was hoping the xda devs. hacked this a long time ago. Or was my search on the forum not thorough enough...lol sorry.
Hey guys, sorry if this is a repeat topic. I searched and didn't find anything useful.
So I use Google Reader to keep up with several RSS feeds. Some feed items, I like to click-through and open up in the browser to read the whole article/posting. In the old Android browser in 3.x and 4.0, I could click through and open several articles up in several tabs from Reader, and go back later to read them, each in its own tab. Under Chrome in 4.0 on my old Transformer, and in 4.1 on this Nexus, it seems to like to replace an existing tab when I do that.
So, I go to say the Engadget feed in Reader, I find an interesting article, and click through to open it in Chrome. I then switch back to Reader, find another interesting Engadget article, and click it to open in the browser. Instead of opening a new tab as before, Chrome seems to replace the Engadget tab I had open with the new one I just clicked through. The back button isn't enabled so it hasn't simply opened the article on top. And the old tab is nowhere to be found.
Is anyone else having this issue? Is there something I can do to make it open a new tab and not kill off the old one?
Thanks!
I'm experiencing the same issue, although I normally use Dolphin HD, which doesn't have this problem. Seems like it's a Chrome issue.
So, nobody has a fix or workaround other than to use a different browser?
I think you'd need to bring it up directly with the Chrome devs (I'm not sure if they have a way of submitting comments/suggestions). It doesn't seem like a behavior that can be changed with any type of workaround other than an inherent change in Chrome.
Actually I don't think Chrome is the issue--Ironically it's another Google product: Google Reader. I bought and switched to Reader HD, and it opens up a new tab for every article I send to Chrome (via the "View Original" button at the end of an aritcle in Reader HD). Worth trying, and it's only a couple of bucks.
Hi everyone . Apologies if this question has been resolved before (and I've missed the answer) but as someone with limited technical knowledge I've been unable to sort a problem with my new fire 10 HD tablet that I modified using the wonderful Toolbox provided on this site.
Basically If I use Google search everything works fine except if I try to narrow the results to images only ....no results are ever shown .
If I open chrome and search for images through the browser I get a few results in an old fashioned very limited format ..perhaps 15 small images at the top of the results page.
The only way I have found to get the expected results page is to choose "desktop site " once I'm on the Google search page that comes up when selecting a new tab.
All is fine with bing and others and I have no similar issues with Google or chrome image results on another older android tablet.
If anyone can suggest a solution or an explanation it would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks for your help

Amazon WebView provider is too older, crappy and isn't fully updated. You can use Firefox browser from Google Play store to make it modern and newer appearance of Google search.
