Edit: Solution found!
Hey,
I installed gApps using gExperience and I keep finding that Google Ears (Google Sound Search - the song recognition app) is being frozen on every reboot.
I use this widget a lot and it's not convenient to open Titanium Backup and unfreeze Sound Search every time I reboot.
Is there any way to permanently unfreeze it, or a solution to it being frozen upon reboot?
Thanks everyone
Pete
Re: [Q] Google Ears keeps being frozen
Can you explain what you mean by "freeze"?

Re: [Q] Google Ears keeps being frozen
Try it, download via apk, push it to system/app folder, reboot and wait until Google Play sync. When it shows in "installed apps" delete the app, and install from "all apps" in GPlay it will instal a correct version, even if it isn't avaiable for tour country... I AM using it in Brasil and it work perfectly.

In Jelly Bean, applications can be disabled in application info. Titanium backup (& other apps) call it being "frozen".

A few days ago google announced a new app called Voice Search. Every time I try to install it is always unsuccessful. Does anyone know why this is? This is the ONLY app that won't install

use root explorer or adb or sufile user and delete it and the search widget from /system/app. reboot and download from market.
In shubcrafts v1.4 it downloads no problem and thats a cynagen mod build...

well i have tried deleting the voice search apk, rebooting and downloading from the market but it still doesnt work. i also dont know what widget you are referring too.
go to settings - sd/storage and unmount the sdcard. go to the market and install the app. then go back to settings and mount the sd. this should fix the issue.
Hi, I have installed Swype with a signed apk, I think.
Now it won't uninstall in any way, even if I try with adb uninstall /system/app/swype.apk (it says "Failure" )
The phone is detecting it as a system app.. how to solve this?
ps. I got the phone rooted with the one click root apk.

Already tried. It says it can't find the apk file
Is it just showing in the app drawer, if so try rebooting.
No it isn't shown in the application drawer. What does this mean?

What traces are there of it and where do you see them?
It's just in the language and international tab of the settings menu, and I can select it as an input method.
It's just installed and working but I need to remove it!

Try removing it again with adb but this time from data/app.
Failure again. It's haunting me

God knows then, I'm out of ideas other than a reflash.
Oh damn somebody is gotta be kidding me as it just correctly uninstalled the package but swype is still there, up and running even after a reboot! Help me I'm not really understanding anything

The only other thing I can think of is just to browse system folders for any trace and delete it.
is yours the official one? have you tried uninstalling the installer as well?
As I already told, it's a signed apk, i bet it's been customized. Which installer are you talking about?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
yeah, so by signed, do you mean by the swype developers themselves? or you downloaded a cracked version off some other hole in the internet?
if you got it from the swype developers officially, you would have installed an installer, which will download the swype.apk, and then install it. so you would have swype installer (this is the installer i'm talking about), and swype.
Search for swype with root explorer and delete all traces...
bang delete...
gone...

Have you tried just clicking the apk again (as though you were trying to install it) and then just uninstall ?
Try shutting down the phone and remove the sd card.
Then start up the phone without the sd card, is it still showing?
I'm having the same problem. Have you got it figured out?
The SD card trick won't work. I searched for anything concerning swype with root explorer and deleted every trace of it but it's still showing up in language settings.
If I try to install a non-signed version, the installation procedure fails...
Well who cares anyway.. I'll be wiping all the phone content when 2.1 comes out
I can't install the Youtube update from Market. It just keeps saying Installation Unsuccessful. That's it. Any ideas how to fix this? I'm rooted.
Anybody that has this problem...I was able to solve it by deleting the Youtube.apk in \system\app and then rebooting. Installing Youtube from Market.
For some reason the ROM I have (10/13 leaked Froyo) has a version of Youtube that doesn't seem to play nice with the update. All is well now though.
having the same issue (cyanogen 6)
thanks for the advice

anything installed in \system\app is not updatable by the android market. Originally, the majority of google-developed apps were installed through \system\app, in hindsight not the best path to keeping users current.
Thus, quite a large amount of (google) system apps have been replaced by user apps and are market downloadable. See Car Home for the most recent example before this.
just uninstall the old youtube via titanium backup and go back into market and download the new youtube app.
I have this problem and cannot delete YouTube.apk because my phone isn't rooted. So can I not update the YouTube app if the phone is not rooted?

For some reason the home screen on my google now for the latest omnirom build isn't enable. It doesn't have the "Okay Google Now" inside the google search bar. Is it something to do with the gapps I downloaded?
It has to do with the installed language, I think. The workaround is to uninstall and then reinstall your Google Search, or move it from system app to user app, and back. I had success with the first option. Then I had to uninstall and reinstall GEL to get it to recognise the new Search and not hang at the end of the boot.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling google search and lost my desktop it reverted back to stock. How would I go about moving the app from/system to /usr and back? Where is the.apk located?
Thanks

You mean the your homescreen setup? Yeah. sorry I forgot to tell you that would happen. The important question is, did it fix hotword? Also, sometimes the text disappears but the mic is filled in as still functions. Be on the watch for that behavior as well.
As for system/user app converting, I have always used Titanium Backup for that.

Go to settings accessibility and disable services one by one to see which one is causing Google Now to fail listening.
Fixed

Thank you Tsukasa Buddha-- I used the second option with Titanium Backup to convert it from a system app to a user app and then back and it is now working properly on my sgh-i337m Galaxy S4. You're the best!
There are other apps in the applications Manager under the Downloaded Apps that are labelled not installed. I have tried removing them but to no success, I have even tried deleting some of their files from root\data\app and data\app-lib but the apps still exist as black icons still labeled NOT INSTALLED (See the attached Image). How do I remove them. Help Please
[EDIT] I have now noticed that every app I uninstall is added to that list and labelled "Not Installed". If you tap the Application, in storage details:
Total..................8.51MB (Size Depending on App)
Application.........8.51MB
SD Card app......0.00B
Data..................0.00B
SD card data......0.00B
Cache................0.00B
Its practically saying the app has been uninstalled but has left its APK and other junk in the phone.
Help on How to remove all these apps manually by deleting some files or any other method.
[EDIT 2] I solved my problem by using an app from Developer Dark3n from this post

If its on one of your applications pages, simply hold it and slide to the top to "app info" from there you can uninstall the app.
If you hold and slide to uninstall it wont do anything (had this issue before)

You need to download/install Titanium Backup from the playstore
and click MENU button and select "Destroy Market Links".
Reboot the phone and it will not longer display "not installed" apps.
Good luck!

I checked Titanium Backup but isnt that option supposed to unlink all apps from the Market, what about the Apps that I still want connected to Market?
I tried it but it didn't work, tried clean Davlik Cache via Titanium Backup but still the problem exists.

It only un-links apps temporarily then starts all over again linking only
those apps which which are installed.

I get this for a few apps whenever something happened to a hidden folder on my SD card named something along the lines of Android_Secure. (something with secure.)
You can't see the folder on the phone, you need to use a pc to see it.
I have no apps installed on my SD, but when anything happens to that folder, about 20 apps stop working and say 'not installed'.
