S4 wifi adapter, new standards???? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I read somewhere that htc one and s4 will be having some new wifi apadters with so called new standards and we cant use the regular 802.11 bgn adapters for connectivity.
Do we need to change the router as well is that what they mean????
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

No. They simply added 802.11ac support so it will be compatible with the new generation of routers, but you don't have to change anything on your current one.

ofcause no new standard. no device can compatible

Ethernet cable with xoom.

I am trying to find out if, when the USB is 100% functional, will i be able to get an adapter for a Ethernet toUSB and get internet working through that Ethernet cable. Thank you

Are you serious?
It would be better to just buy a NEW wireless router than all that adapter stuff

Why would someone want to do that?

Doubt it would be possible since wouldn't there need to be drivers for the adapter built into Android?

I think that's a fair question, some hotels don't have wireless internet in the rooms just the lobby

I wanted to know because some places in European hotels don't have wifi but they have Ethernert cables... I really hoped it would work

why all the disbelief?
The G-tab has a dock available with an Ethernet port, and it is functional. However people have also tried a usb to ethernet adapter and that didn't go as well thread
If you get a dev who sees a demand or needs this personally for some reason then I wouldn't be surprised if it gets made.
we use ethernet-to-usb dongles at my work when we don't yet have wifi working on our tablets. I don't work at motorola, so I can't say anything about the xoom in particular, but I don't think we made any modifications to our tablets to get this to work. So, in other words, yes. It should work.
It is a fair question but unfortunately the answer is maybe for a custom ROM but probably not for stock. The problem, as mentioned earlier, is that support would need to be built into the kernel and it is not something most people would need with the xoom. The main reason I can think of would be to sniff a wired network for troubleshooting and such.
My suggestion would be to pick up one of the ultraportable waps like the d-link dap 1350. (Not an endorsement, just a likely suspect that came up in a Google for portable wireless access point.)

Since you'd have to carry the dongle with you anyway, it may be a good bit easier to pick up a portable wireless router. They make them VERY small and it would (in theory) sove the problem without tying you to a cable.

I would use this, it would be great if motorola put that into their docks

A little help about wifi

i am using Netgear N wireless router at 150mbps
but my phone shows link speed of 65mbps
any way to force the device to connect at 802.11N
Are any other devices connected to the router? If there is and there not N speed the router will only work at that speed unless it is dual band.
No only my phone is connected
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA App
any one? please
The Galaxy S uses a very restricted form of the 802.11N. In fact, it limits it to the 2.4GHz band and only a single 20MHz spatial stream.
Therefore, even on a router that supports N, 65Mbps is the best you are going to be able to get.
Ok i understand why my wifi is so bad too. Thanks

Have you had any luck yet?
I am looking to connect several Nexus 4 (mako) devices together using wifi ad-hoc mode, but the Nexus 4 uses a different Wi-Fi chipset than most devices. There has been good work done on the Broadcom chipset (Google search for: thinktube IBSS), but I am having difficulty finding anything for the Murata Wi-Fi chip which is found in Nexus 4 according to ifixit.
There are ROMs that have ad-hoc built in

Awesome! Do you know of any that will allow my Nexus 4 devices to successfully connect to an ad-hoc network?

[Q] Dual Band a/b/g/n USB Adapter

Has any one tried using a dual band a/b/g/n adapter with their N7? I would like to use inSSIDer to do a basic site survey including the 5GHz bands.
No but you can use Wifi Analyzer from Play Store.

You can connect at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. this provides wireless internet connectivity using WiFi instead of Mobile internet. This lowers your cellular bill at the end of the month and provides much faster internet speeds for your phone whilst connected to WiFi.
In my case i am able to successfully connect to the 2.4 GHz frequency, but my HTC One does not see the router when i configure the router to 5 GHz frequency only. My Dell Laptop connects, but the HTC does not see the SSID.
Others have successfully connected at 5 GHz and using ac to improve their connection speed, but i have been unable to get this with the EA6500 router ((
I am using WPA-2 for security and i tried both N and ac modes on the 5 GHz frequency. I have no problems at 2.4 GHz and N with WPA-2.
So yo be ssfe I should buy a 2.4 Ghz router? What's s decent name brand, model of a router should buy to connect to my Gs4.hey if you can could you pm me a web link for s good router. Thanks

Unfortunately you need to have an internet connection to your home, connect this to the wireless router (i would suggest ASUS RT-AC66U and not the crappy EA 6500 i bought). Once connected there you should have WiFi distrubuted to your home, and you can connect your mobile phone to this. You can use this to share files etc throughout your home network..
I hope this helps.
