[Q] lost stock 4.2.2 kernel - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, first post and first dabbling into phone adventure : )
I recently ditched my iPhone for an N4. I bit the bullet yesterday & installed new ROM (p.a) and also Franco kernel.
Now the problem is that like a tool of a noon I didn't make a copy of my stock kernel : (
Can you please point me in the right direction to obtain one please.
Many thanks
Mark

Download the 4.2.2 image for the nexus 4. Inside the zip, the kernel is boot.img

Or wipe cache and dalvik and reflash rom

Download nexus 4.2.2 factory image
Extract nexus 4.2.2 factory image to android-sdk/platform-tools
Put phone in boot loader mode
Plug in phone
Open cmd
CD to android-sdk/platform-tools
Fastboot flash boot boot.img

the moment you flash a custom rom, you lose the stock kernel. every rom has its own kernel. if you dont like franco kernel, then just reflash your rom ti get the roms kernel back.

So what I actually need then is the kernel from paranoid android that I overwrote with Franko.
Oops, is this available on its own?
Ive found that since adding the franko, my benchmark scores have taken a huge dive. Mind you an turn turn does seem to throw up different results each time, is it a waste of time??
Cheers for your patience guys : )

just reflash the rom(dont wipe anything), itll replace the kernel. or pull the boot.img from the rom and flash it via fastboot. if you want better benchmarks/performance, i recommend trinity kernel

Cheers Simms.
I did try trinity but also found that to take a benchmark dive. Now this doesn't sound right yo me which is why I'm starting to distrust an tu tu.
Also my battery life now is showing an expected 7 hours 4 mins, so god knows what going back to trinity would do lol.
I can only presume that the 'fully charged battery usually lasts' is buggered up because I've been using it all day whereas when I'm at work it doesn't take such a hammering.

the problem can be the method that you use to benchmark. the right way would be to make the highest cpu speed and lowest cpu speed the same, so that the device doesnt decide itself what speed to use, so it doesnt scale during benchmarking. for example, i bench at 1782mhz high/1782mhz low. also, i like ondemand/deadline with trinity, i disable heat throttling(since a throttled cpu lowers cpu speed), also i like to enable all four cores to be on.

Awesome, thanks to you both. I'll try a bench with the settings you suggested and I'll go get the P.A kernel.
I've only been messing with this phone stuff since Friday so its a big learning curve.
Loving the P.A ROM : )

Hi again. Now this may seem like a daft question but as I said, I'm noob to this.
I have downloaded the stock kernel again & also have another ROM sitting in my download folder on phone. This is obviosly taking ip precious space. Can i mobe these files to my pc to store. If so how, & how do i then move them back to N4 when i want to change kernel??

i keep the latest few kernels and latest rom on my phone. that way they are there when i need them. especially if i mess something up accidentally, i always recommend that. otherwise, things can be a pain in the ass.

dont move your rom zip, youll need it as soon as you do. ive seen people go through hours of hastle because the moved/deleted it. try this app, disk usage, its good at finding unneeded stuff https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage

Thanks Simms, downloaded & installed. I just don't like having sub 10gig on my phone. Got very used to iPhone with 32gig so less than 10 left feels kinda empty. Ideally I'd like to keep 2 ROMs (pa & rasbean, which I haven't used yet) & Franko & trinity, but doing this wont realy leave much dpace. Its a job getting my head round this non expandable low disk space business.

Indroid was the 1st custom rom i flashed on my G3. Before this I was very new to all these. I am only waiting for a simple way to partition and use Indriod FSC then I will post in this thread some troubleshoot for newbies which I felt during Indroid ROM flashing. hope that will make life easier for those who want to flash it but worried about errors.
Can i overclock my indroid 4.2 ?? And are there some risks? will my telephone die?

Btw you can also reduce system sound with the volume key on the left side right? Doesn't that work?

you haven't partition'd yet?
Use minitool and partition your sd..I could make a video on using ext4 as data on indroid if you want me to?
I'd show from start in the video if you'll want it.
And Indroid FSC is used after making an ext partition on sd not before.

ok i will when i get time..
I installed indroid 4.2. Everything seems to work, except the gps and usb-connection.
It takes a very long time to get a fix on gps. When i finally get get a fix and i give a location in google navigation, it crashes.
About the usb-connection, the first time i connected to my pc, it worked. But after that, it doesn't work anymore. When i connect my sg3 to my pc, it thrils ones and that's it.
Any ideas?

as of now its just over clocked to 800Mhz so i recommended to stick with 667Mhz version ie standard version.
3d gallery not working?
If you have updated the kernel to beta 3 then stick to it no need to reflash

[Q] What his the Best ROM for GT540 right now? (7/05/2012)

Hi guys.. I just wanna know what is the best rom now for the LG gt540 (Swift)... I went to the subforum dedicated to this phone, but I see a lot of ROM, and as longer I check all, I don't know what can be the best choice..
I'm really new in this.. I just rooted my phone yesterday (I have my phone since 2010 =D)..
I update it with the official release to v2.1, but it is really slow, and I'm out of memory very soon (after a few app, I can't install others 'couse internal memory get full)..
Does anyonw know if there is some good ROM that just take up a little piece of memory, to let a lot more memory free?..
And if can be faster than 2.1, good, if not, is ok.. I really want, mainly, more space to can install more apps..
Thanks for your help!!!
first:
2.1 fastboot ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224747 )
then:
Repartition internal memory

I wanna have all of the programs recommended to start working with the phone..
The link with the drivers is not working (is no big deal 'couse I have the LG Updater that scan for the lastest drivers)..
The important one file missing is the fastboot.exe.. I can't find another link working.. can someone reupload it?..
I'm talking about the first post u recommend me: [HOW-TO] Install 2.1 + Fastboot + Recovery + Custom ROMs on GT540! (n00b friendly!)

sdsl by miroslav_mm is best for me.good battery and performance
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364416
thx manhcuong90.. I indeed install that ROM.. Is very true that your battery life is increased..
I wanna advice some guy that is in my same position (noob =D)..
When I tryes to reboot in fastmode, everyone says: "start the phone pressing the camera button + power"..
That is true, but not at all.. u don't just start the phone right this, but u need to hold it untill the screen become black..
It happend to me that I started holding camera+power, and once the phone turned on, I release those buttons.. I've been almost 1 hour to figure out why it doesn't enter in fasboot mode lol...
Anyway, don't be noob like me..
Another advice, and now I'm talking to my friend andreas =D..
andreas, your steps are great, but need to resort one of them, the partition memory for ROM and Internal..
I followed your steps, by installing first some ROM with fasboot and than I install the recovery..
the 2nd step was partition of memory.. I couldn't did that.. idk now if is some ROM that cannot be done, but I tryed like eoghan2t7 says, and nothing..
I really gave up, so I jumped that step to install one of the 2 mods u let me to choose (I choose the 1st, miroslav_mm's one)..
After I let my phone with that build, I tryed to do the memory partition, and... whoala!! it worked..
So, in my case, it didn't work with some generic ROM, but with the miroslav_mm's ROM it does..
So, if someone wanna follow the steps of our friend andreas, just don't try the partiotion of memory before u install any other ROM, 'couse probably it will not work, and u will stay one or 2 hours trying to figure out WHY all other guys can, and u can't
Ok, I guess that is all.. Thx very much for those who helped me. .And I have to say, THIS FORUM RULEZ!!!.. I did found very helpfull information that help me out to flash my first ROM =D

hmm okay
the repartition only needs fastboot ^^ you can delete your whole system and data and still use fastboot so the ROM will change nothing to fastboot behavior ^^ maybe there was a problem with the fastboot connection but im pretty sure its possible to flash APPSBL to any fastboot ROM But after flashing you have to reinstall ROM anyways so it really just dosn't matter what u were using before
My next tip for you would be playing around with different tweaks
e.g Supercharger, Loopy smoothness tweak, different init.d tweaks, or swap if you have good SDcard (i don't have but using anyways )

What is the best fast rom?
GT540 Best Roms
I have flashed custom roms to GT540 no less than 70 times in 2 months. These roms were based on customized Froyo, gingerbread, ICS, JB 4.1.2 and JB 4.2.2 roms.
The best roms i suggest are:
Optimus Nexus 2.3.7
Jelly Bean 4.1.2-FlashXter
Both can be grabbed from XDA's or androidmodmarket (lists all custom roms with quick download links)
If you prefer performance over quality go for 2.3.7 and for most apps to run , 4.1.2 is the rom you need.
Secondly you can customize 4.1.2 archive using 7-zip (etc.) by adding system apps, themes , media files of your choice.
Note: Some of android 2.1 apps don't run on 2.3.7....so better use the JB 4.1.2 rom.

[Q] CM 11 - Performance tab question/help

Hello xda.
I installed Cyanogenmod on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 today with no problems at all, however I've found something that seems a bit weird. (I know there is supposed to be bugs in nightlies, of course, but I thought i'd ask anyway.)
In the performance settings of the tab, it keeps the minimum CPU frequency to 1190mhz. If I put it to 300mhz, it will work, but as soon as I exit out of the performance tab, it goes back to 1190mhz. I figured that my phone was quite hot when I didn't use it, and that's how I found out.
Have anyone seen this on the latest CM11 nightly for the Note 3? I hope somebody out there know how I can fix it.
Many thanks.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I've heard a little about kernels. The thing is, that this is the first time I've ever put a custom rom on an android device, so I'm not really 100% familiar with all this yet, however if the custom kernel won't be able to brick my phone, I sure would give that a try.
Should I go with the "stable" version or the beta version of the kernel?

I have PA Gapps 3-08 running fine on recent Cyanogen Mod 11 port for the T330NU with no issue..
However the PA GAPPs developer (TKruzze) no longer makes GAPPs packages..
If you have the latest PA GAPPs, it should work..

W, hey okay i add mtp to my todo list though i don't own a computer that mtp would actually work on, so it'll be guesswork.
Also now that sound is sorted, i'll take a look at the magnetic cover thingamawhatzit. Though i like to turn my screen
on and off the old fashioned way. :silly:
You folks don't expect too much more, I do have other stuff I have to get to.

Sure, i've never had a magnetic cover, the basic idea is closed screen off, and open screen on right ?
also can you test out bluetoothiness, keyboard, i've never done audio streaming so i don't know much to that end.

If I had a Bluetooth device I would test that for you but I don't have one.

edit - I'm happy to see that there is a person working on the t330nu. that means my money doesn't go to waste

Z,
hi, i have no issue but, i also maintain my tab regularly with sdmaid, you may need to clear out battery stats.
Also, are you running the rom with or without the kernel update? Lastly how many background processes do you
have running?

Z,
hi again :silly:
you can run in terminal
ps
also you can also connect via adb and run adb shell, then as root [su] run
powertop
i say to do that one through adb because it doesn't display correctly and is kind of unmanagable in the tab's
terminal window.
Also try modifying you performance settings, on the updated kernel you should be set to ondemand/cfq

Umm, because it's not overclocked.
Also skip the powertop approach, i forgot to config in the kernel, i'll get that in the next build.
I know nothing about overclocking, yet.

Okay thanks looking forward to updates for this rom. Also I was wondering.. For the ROMs for the t530 tabs like the cm12 one they now have. What would need to be done to get it booting... I heard all the ROMs with the same board need is a working kernel.. Idk if that's right but if it is would the kernel for this ROM get the cm 12 ROM booting or does it need a new one?

For the most part that's somewhat true correct, however i haven't bothered because the roms are being packaged with the block setup
as opposed to the tried and true way and i just don't have the patience to unpack that setup and repack it.
To be truthful i think i've gotten addicted to this stuff in a slightly mentally unstable kind of way :silly:
And as such am running multiple projects at once, so if you want to chip in on trying that approach, downoad one of the
sm-t53xx builds, get it unpacked and repacked cm11 style and link me to it, a respectable site, not 4shared or dumbass gator
or any place like that, and i'll see what i can do. my current attempts with bliss keep breaking at camerawrapper issues and gps issues.

Rom sugestions?

Hi guys!
Is already have my OP5 since a month and using FreedomOS with Franco Kernel since the 2nd day I got it in my hand.
I am pretty happy in everything it brongs me both things, but I want to ask to people who has another custom ROM (xXx NoLimits, Resurrection Remix, ExperienceOS, etc) / Kernel on its device (I do not know a lot of kernels but I saw Franco and people (and his developer) told me some features and they hat reason is very smooth good and customizable with its own app.
So which Rom do you have? Magisk or SuperSu? Which Kernel is the best for you? :victory:
I want to get your personal opinion and your experience, I hope more people have the questions I did it and here we can help us each other with our opinion about using X rom X kernel and some more features that I can not put it here because I do not know if there are more things (my last Z5 I used mods and tweaks to make better performance but if you have a kernel like France you do not need this).
Thank you very much for your help :fingers-crossed:
I'm using xXx no limits and use the AKT (advanced kernel tweaks or so?) mod.
I don't know about the kernels but the ROM itself is my favorite.
It has an aroma installer (you pick which features you want before installing them) with many options.
You won't need to download gapps, magisk/ supersu and some stuff like xposed separately. It's very convenient.
Everything is smooth.
The stereo mod (using the earpiece as a speaker for music and videos) is something which is weird as it's used for something it wasn't meant to be used but still a very nice addition.
It's basically a faster stock OOS (oxygen OS) in a bundle with some root functionality added.
This shall be it for now. I hope that I could help you. Fell free to ask if you have any questions
I am using pure stock since I got this phone on the 4th of September and I have to say since then I stopped being a flasholic.
PureFusion because I've had the Nexus 6P and Pixel XL before this phone and ran PureNexus on those, and PureFusion is based on that. It's the only ROM that I feel provides just the right amount of features for me (not too much and not too less).
I'm using the stock kernel now because using custom kernels would introduce issues.
I did have the phone randomly reboot on Me 2 times so far but I can't say for sure that it's the ROM that is causing it.
Overall it's my favourite one out of the handful I have tried and I would definitely recommend it!!
Gonna go with stock as well. Stock kernel or Franco. Gotta say, better speed and battery than the other stuff out there. You gotta figure a whole company can do much better in software development than 1 guy or a team of 5 or 6 people.
Pure Fusion here too because its given me an extremely better battery life from the normal 3 hours SOT, i now get roughly 6 . Stock Kernel with the rom because it's just good for me all in all, maybe will try Franco sometime down the road because, i've been along time supporter. Magisk just because I don't need much except YouTube without ads, also can use Snapchat and other apps flawlessly! Good Luck!

I watched too Pure Fusion OS, but I need to know if I can install it jsut the Rom of do I need too one of the gapps that are they in the original post the gapps, bu I need to know how to install it?
Do I just make a clean install or i do a clean install and I install one of the gapps?
I must ask too, if I have unlocked the bootloeader, does that mean I have my mobile encrypted? Can I install Pure Fusion OS without problem?
What I normally do is wipe everything but internal memory, install room along with gapps I use open and it boots up! And you're all good to go !

It doesn't really matter. You can download open gapps or one for the others (forgot the names. Hehe).
You'll have to flash the ROM first and then the gapps file in the recovery. That's it.
But beware. Playing with your phones software doesn't come without risks. Read a lot about what you have to do and preferably try it on a phone to practice before doing it on your normal phone.
It can break your phone and I don't think that you can/ want to buy a new one. I had bricked my first phone a week after getting into root and custom ROMs.
The problems after that have driven me crazy but I was going to buy a new phone anyway.
LPT: If you want to flash something, wait for stable releases as long as you're inexperienced. Wait till others have tried that and then flash it. That way, you'll avoid some of the problems that you would struggle for a long time to fix.
And don't forget this. Keep an eye on the forums to see what problems people are reporting of and how to solve or avoid them in the first place.
Hope I could help

Arm 64/ 7.1 / And then you can choose which you like i don't need everything from Google so i'm sure what to select and as the previous post it has a stable and beta build PERSONALLY i'm using the beta and no problems at all! Any other questions feel free to ask!
This is an age old question..
You need to ask yourself not us.
What is your favourite car ? Mines a McLaren or a nismo, or a s2000 or robocops car.
You may disagree..
So what do you like, flash a bunch and see for yourself..
Bare in mind these threads usually get closed.
I'm using pure fusion and love it.
