Anyone has the cab file for the Youtube app that comes with TMobile Touch Pro 2?
The youtube app that can be downloaded from Google is different than what comes with TMobile stock ROM.
Yeah I made that mistake too. It actually still keeps the old one in /Windows/youtube.exe or something like that.

so, has anyone else found themselves significantly disappointed by the playback on this device? especially with youtube...
honestly, why does this device sport an 800x400 (right?) resolution screen when it can't even support a form of playback that can utilize it? I hated the iPhone and was sooooo happy to see this phone coming out to replace my Kaiser, but to hold my sisters iPhone next to my Rhodium and see how much better her playback is...it's more than disappointing...

Thanks rorytmeadows - that worked.
I wonder how the video quality is or either one. The hava is cheaper but wonder which has the best upload video quality. I know the slingbox has software for $30 for android, but I heard the software for the hava is free, I think.
I've used the sling player and it's pretty cool. Video looks good, works well on 3g
worth every penny. there is nothing like sitting around in an office watching whatever you want. video quality is great with a good signal. sling player

works awesome on strong 3g and even better on 4g
ok great
There is someone near me selling the previous version of the slingbox hd pro. It's colored red. I wonder if the newer ones have some better compression built in giving better video quality or does it 99% depend on the internet connection.
I am considering this as well. Does anyone know if the quality on your phone depends only on the connection to your mobile network? Or does the quality also depend on the connection speed of your home network? I currently have att DSL which maxes out at 600kbs. Since you have to plug the sling box into your home network I was just curious.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
I have one and it does depend on your Home network uploading speed. Its best to have 1mb or more or it will skip a lot. Also your 3g strength factors in as well.

I have the slingplayer software with both a slinghd and slingpro.
And actually, the quality sucks. I posted screenshots some time ago. The aliasing is out of control. And this was on my LAN. And before the doubters say anything, feel free to post your own screenshots.
I have had a sling box for a few years now. I Couldn't be happier with it. I do have a 20/5 connection at my house so this helps me alot. The video quality is pretty good on 3g. I have watched whole basketball games on a 3g connection and its more than watchable even with all the action. Streaming on the laptop is even better for obvious reasons.
Found my old post:

Decide for yourself. I think youtube looks 10x better. Which is ridiculous.
I use it through the Dish Network software. I have found it to have good quality for shows that I don't have time to watch at home.
i have had my slingbox since the day it was released i love it , as far as the app i find that it works very well, the quality is not bad im very impressed at this point al though i wish it did support HDMI out so i could watch on my projector but hopefully CM will be able to release Full HDMI out on his next release. other than that it is worth the price. only flaw i find is i wish there was a channel guide that was built into the app that would adapt to what provider you are using for cable or sat. other than that very beautiful app and is a must have!!!
I agree with you ^

I actually just got an older Slingbox AV (no HD hookups) just before Thanksgiving so I could fool around with it while at my parents' for the holiday. I was worried it would suck over 3G since I can only get Time Warner Cable at my home and the upload is a pitiful .5Mbit. I was pleasantly surprised at how watchable it was using my Evo and my original eeePC over the internet. I kind of want to try a Slingbox HD now just so I can fully utilize the screen on the Evo. The Zoom/Aspect ration options are a little lacking and I can't get a letterboxed video to take up the entire screen, but SD signals still look great.
It's definitely not Youtube quality as someone said, but I think that mostly has to do with 1)not having an HD slingbox and 2)not having the upload bandwidth from home to send out a higher quality stream.
Just got mine today. Love it, used it all day at work on 3G and the quality was amazing.

I have a slingplayer pro and on the 3g network it streams directv perfect with a good signal... if you do not have good internet it will suck giant donkey balls though
i had the slingbox solo and it was clutch. didn't even try the regular av cables, went a bought the hd composite cables.
it definitely depends on the connection you have. If you set it to "auto" from your PC, then you will get poor video when you have weak reception, but if you have good signal all day, you can set it to "better" or "best" quality and have no real issue.
best investment ever. I did rid it cause my gf at home would have to watch whatever i was watching when i was working. saving for an HD ($300) cuz i believe you can watch seperate channels with it.
Hi all!
I apologise if already discussed, but can't find anything after searching within xda-app and google.
I am very happy with my SGS2 in general and consider it to be the best phone so far on the market (maybe apart from sgs2 hd), and therefore expect it's performance to be superior to most phones/pda's. I was watching a youtube clip on iPod Touch 4 the other day which I normally do on my Galaxy, and was so impressed with the sharpness and vividity that I decided to compare thse two side by side. And what a disappointment! Although the Galaxy offers more saturated colours and higher contrast due to OLED's blacks, the sharpness was nowhere near iPods Retina. And personally for me it completely ruins the whole visual experience.
Don't get me wrong, I was aware of the lower resolution (not helped by bigger screen size) before even purchasing SGS2. But I guess this poor youtube experience further highlighted it. I do realize it's probably due to some limitations within the YT app not allowing high enough resolution, and the might be a solution to overcome it that I'm not aware of. By the way I used the stock YT app asa well as the one called RollTube that allows you to download videos. Connection is WiFi 12mbps and videos whatched are HD quality.
Am I the only one bothered by the slightly lower resolution of the SGS2's display? I don't know whether it's over 300ppi but I can clearly tell the difference in sharpness in side by side comparison to Retina looking at the same image. Please let me know what you think folks, and if you know how to fix the YouTube problem that'd be fantastic!

i thought the same as you...i thought my retina display was ten times better than the Galaxy s2 one...but after spending a few months with the the phone i would not change it for the world....i was playing the other day with my friends iphone 4 and il be honest my one is better....youtube videos mine are pretty clear but probably due to the high resolution on the iphone it will loook sharper...but everyone to their own tastes i say
Iphone has higher ppi than in sgs2 which i think is the cause..
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Yea, i got this same problem, and posted in many forums about it, but obviously no one care about YT?!... The problem is not related to higher resolution on ipod/iphone retina. The same video, downloaded to the phone from Tubemate with highest res is amazing. And on HTC Sensation the things looks awesome too! So my gues is that the youtube app(SGS2), does not play videos in HQ with the highest posible resolution. And for me, for some reason, the playback itself is sometimes choppy, like not enough buffering or something?!!...This choppiness is common for me on every rom i've tried after 2.3.3, no matter custom or stock! The question is why nobody talk about that roblem? I got answers that there is no problem with playback from any forum i search. Are all those people blind, or they don't watch hq videos?
The choppines might be due to the network speed. The playback for me is very smooth.
I am pretty sure the low res is the YT app limitation. A full HD video file when downloaded to pc is around 50-100MB, whereas downloaded to the handset the same video is only 10-15MB. Obviously it is a compressed file with lower resolution. Same applies for viewing.

Obviously it is. But noone seem to be bothered, perhaps because not much can be done other than changing handset.
But the Youtube problem is software related and can be overcome.

No man, my files are just about 50-150MB when downloaded on the phone, and they are with stunning quality! And i use same WiFi network as on my PC, so there is no way that be the problem.Besides choppiness is present only in 2.3.4 or higher, not 2.3.3? Obviously this is some kind of limitation in the app, but why just on sgs2, not others? As i said, on Sensation, the problem doesn't exists? On IOS too? Did Google knows that this device is capable of more that they think? This problem drives me crazy since day 1, and shouldn't be ignored! 600$ on the phone and no quality Youtubes? WTF!?!
Actually, you know what? I've just managed to download a proper HD file using the app you mentioned (Tubemate) and despite the bigger screen size it wasn't easy yo spot the difference in the resolution of SGS2 vs Retina. Samsung have done a good job by adding some subpicsels to make up for low ppi. It's the icons where you still can spot the difference relatively easily.
If our app developers could make one that would allow an HD YouTube playback AND the download option in the same app I'm sure people would be willing to pay for it!

I've finaly found what causing the choppiness. I flashed Siyah kernel, and used smartassv2 governor. What a surprise for me was to find out that playback was fine. The problem obviously was in the default cpu ondemand governor. In other words, the cpu scalling was somehow wrong?!... Unfortunately, the smartass governor, was no good to me for games, very poor frame rates.
Hi all, just nabbed a 7.7 today moving away from the p1000. I started playing around with the camera and I immediately noticed some oddities especially when switching to video mode set at 720p quality.
Below are screenshots taken with my SGS 2, where I placed the tablet stationary at a certain distance from my printer and tested different resolution settings on the camera, while maintaining the tablet in same position at all times.
First a test with the picture mode, the distances between 480p and the highest quality isn't very noticeable but it's there,
480p
Highest quality with widescreen
This, I have no problems whatsoever, taking pictures still feels the same as the p1000 and that's good because I'm used to that.
Next is where I am really confused. When switching to video mode, I noticed the entire printer seems to be zoomed in closer and the graininess has increased drastically (I suspect the increased in graininess comes from zooming too close to it). I have checked everywhere in the menu to look for zoom settings but alas, after googling around the tablet's default camera app doesn't support zoom at all. Which brings me to an even bigger problem, as it just feels out of place when everything is zoomed in whenever I wanted to take a video recording. After turning down the quality to 480p, it felt so much better with the distancing between the object and the camera. Pics below will show the comparison between both settings,
480p video
720p video
Is everyone else having this same oddity with their camera as well? I hope its not a 'normal' thing cause I'd be hating it immensely (just using 480p mode in the meantime) :|
any kind sgt owners willing to test this out for me and give a feedback?
at least I could pinpoint if its a hardware or software problem, if its different between other tablets.
I am having the same problem. I was wanting to use my 7.7 as a uStream live streaming device for some of our company events, and because of this problem, I am using my phone instead, which sucks because phone calls can interupt!
Anyone else notice vid camera zoomed all of the way in, with no other way to zoom out. Is there a fix?
I have never used 720p video recording before, but after reading this thread I just tried it. Same problem as reported. On 480p everything works fine, but on 720p vid is zoomed in alot. Also quality is way worse than on 480p.
I guess without this thread I would have never noticed that, but this is indeed a huge bug that should not happen on final software for an expensive device like this.
It is advertised with hd video recording after all...
thanks guys for the feedback!
I was almost tempted to try another firmware but with different SGT 7.7's out there affected by this bug, it needs to be reported.
I am pretty sure it is a software problem which is causing the camera to zoom in on HD mode (digital zooming is possible with third party software as I have tried it)
Also, because it is always digitally zoomed in, the quality/graininess will be a lot worse, this is what every tab 7.7 owner will be looking at.
Could anyone guide me to report this directly to Samsung? I'm hoping its fixed before official ICS!
bump, anyone else having the same issues with their camera just give a feedback here.
+1
Also the text is cut off in settings when in landscape.. geez
I have the same issue. Tried using a video recorder app off the market and it would digital zoom 720p and 480p so that wasn't any help.

wow that sucks ! I dont have the sgt 7.7 with me but this is too serious to be overlooked
i guess based on the amount of responses in this thread most of the tab owners never really cared about 720p video recording
this is my FINAL samsung android product... I feel that they have dropped the ball this time, their pinnacle being SGS 2 and I will always remember the younger days when samsung was focused on something good,
now they are just releasing products like different branded cereal without even tasting them first.
someone explained this one to me before since I hate the 'zoom' effect of the screen as well, but as per his explanation, this could be due to the camera pixel, we have a 3.2 on board camera, using it in 3.2mpxl snapper makes use of the whole image sensor pixel array. using the 720P video on the other hand will use only a portion of that array and the software automatically fill the screen. I don't have an explanation regarding the full screen, un-zoomed 480P though,
I dont find this as a problem but if we can just have this adjusted (zoom in and out) it would be much better
Sammy juat stopped caring about their tabs. Gs3 is making sales targets. Thats good enough for them. Too bad! 7 inch market is super competative. If they dont act fast they will lose just like blackbery and their underdeveloped playbok

I am so angry I'm considering ditching Samsung. ICS finally arrived in the UK via Kies a couple of days ago. I didn't have this issue with Honeycomb but now with ICS my P6800 video camera, when in HD mode displays a zoomed image. The only reason I;m not ditching it right now is because of the SuperAMOLED screen - the same reason I paid silly money for it when I could have gotten a Nexus.
I have done some recherching and found out this is not a bug! Many devices have this. I'll try to explain what happens:
If you record videos in HD, your device has to downscale the video to show it to you on display while at the same time saving it in HD resolution and keeping the promised frame rate. This needs too much processing power, framerate would just drop. So they use a little trick: If you don't downscale the preview but only show a small part of what the sensor gets you save alot of processing power. But on the other hand it gives you the noticed "zoomed-in" look, also the image quality is less because it does not use the whole sensor (like it would on a still).
The saved video should look normal (not zoomed-in).
Hope my english is not too bad so you can understand what I mean

Standard poor copy-paste response from Samsung, which appear not to acknowledge that the device isn't a telephone:
Thank you for contacting Samsung and I have pleasure in providing the following assistance.
I’m sorry you are having issues with your device after upgrading the firmware. I can understand your frustration about this.
Old systems settings can be left on the phone after an update occurs, which is why we usually recommend a full factory reset after updating. If this isn’t done your device may begin to give false readings from system resources, or experience technical problems, which may explain the issue you are having.
We would advise on doing the following, which is designed to reset the settings on your device. Please back up your device using Samsung KIES before you do this.
1) Remove the battery for at least 40 minutes, put the battery back in and allow it to fully discharge. Afterwards, perform a full battery charge with the device turned off. Do not interrupt the charging process.
2) After the battery is fully charged, we would like you to perform a full factory reset, which can be done via Settings > Backup > Reset.
This process will reset your device, remove old system files that are no longer needed and enable your device to operate normally again.
Please let us know if your device continues to experience problems after the reset so we can investigate further.
If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and we will be more than happy to help.
Kind regards

I must respectfully disagree. If that were the case then the behaviour should have been the same prior to the ICS update. Also, when copying the video off the device and playing it back on a FullHD capable device the quality is still poor.
Hello folks,
I have noticed that the video call experience on Android yields pixelated grainy images regardless of device and network I use.
I have tried Hangouts, Skype and various other video call apps on: two different Samsung Note 3's, a Samsung Galaxy S4, a Nexus 7 2013 and a Nexus 4.
I have attempted using WiFi, HSPA+ and also using LTE. Regardless of the device, the app, AND the connection, the quality of the video was horrendous at best.
And then I tried using FaceTime, which produced high quality HD video. I was mind blown.
I fully know that the front facing cameras on each and every single device I have is high definition capable.
So tell me... why are we forced to suffer terrible quality video call while a simple iPod touch can stomp on us like toy soldiers?
Facetime is awesome BUT only works with iOS. I found hangouts to be good but people seem less likely to vid chat
