Frequently Asked Questions
Motorola Droid 2
This a short list of frequently asked questions in this device forum and the answers often given as a response. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document. Do not post "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.
Q1: How can I tell if I have a Motorola Droid 2?
1. Check in the battery compartment, under battery, on the label, Model is in the middle of top line, the Droid 2 is model a955.2. In the software Menu>settings>about Phone>system version will include a955.Verizon.en.US3. Bootloader Version: Power Off>Hold both volume buttons> Bootloader Version is D2.37
Q2: What is the newest Stock Android Version and System Version?
Current Stock Android Version is 2.3.4 (Gingerbread).Current System Version is 4.5.621.a955.Verizon.en.US
Q3: Where are the Custom Bootloaders, Recoveries, and Kernels?
Because of the Locked bootloader, the stock bootloader and Stock recovery can not be replaced, no custom Kernels,
Q4: What is Rooting? How do I root?
Rooting gives you access to system files, that are restricted by default in android. Rooting Droid 2 running Gingerbread is easy using Framaroot. see “Super Easy Droid X, Droid 2 Rooting app
Q5: What is a Bootstrap and why do I need it?
Because of the locked bootloader a bootstrap is needed to install and access a custom recovery. SeeBootstrap explained by Koushik Dutta (Koush) the Droid 2, X, & 3 bootstrap creator . Which version of bootstrap should I use? In most cases Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrapper CWM 5.0.2.0 is best option. see [Kitkat] CM11 Android 4.4 for the Droid X
Q6: How do I restore the stock rom?
IF phone can be booted to bootloader and battery has enough charge, Stock Firmware(SBF) should be able to be re-flashed as long as the is no hardware failure. There are 3 methods to flash SBF/Firmware.1. RSD Lite (Windows only) see my page Using RSD Lite to flash a .SBF to restore (Stock Rom)2. ezSBF bootable CD or usb flash drive (Windows/Linux/Mac) D2 ezSBF & Root 2.3.4/4.5.6213. sbf_flash (LInux/Mac) see http://blog.opticaldelusion.org/search/label/sbf_flashDroid 2 Firmware/SBFs

Best/most stable ROM threads aren't allowed as they're too subjective, you'll receive lots of differing opinions on the same thing. Only way is to try yourself and find the one that fits you best as that's what these forums are about.

All instructions will be on the first post of the room thread
Please read it fully as instructions will vary depending on rom
Read the rom threads and find what will work best for you - a stock based rom cm7 or cm11 depending on features required - read the features and bugs list fully
Before starting I would update your stock rom baseband as yours is old and may cause bootloops if using cm11
You can update your stock rom baseband by flashing stock rom firmware or just the modem file via odin - links to my firmware thread are in my signature below
Also please next time post questions in the question and answer section - I will get this thread moved there
Edit - thread moved to q & a

Defy+ best stable CWM and CMs
Hi,
First post so it ends up here. I have been following the Defy user guide and have found that a lot of links are broken and when trying to locate files there is a lot of misleading info on this process.
I'm new to rooting Androids but I'm capable of following procedures as long as they don't involve too many acronyms or poorly explained sections.
I have a rooted phone via framaroot and 2ndinit installed.
I don't quite get what to do next with Clockwork Mod or TWRP? Also, there are references to recovery installations but the links seem to head to an error page. I'm in Australia if that makes any difference to the recovery file. My MB526 is currently at 2.3.6.
*** edit OK so I learned that the 2ndinit has CWM5.0? in it and I followed a guide to install Cyanogen 10.2 and Gapps which wouldn't install via the CWM recovery. So I go around again and am looking for CM10 which is referred to in another guide (then step up to 10.2) Surely there is a better way to complete this? From here there is another step to CM11... I'll get back to it in the morning...
Once I install the CWM(x) I then install a custom ROM? CM(x) which one is recommended as stable? I'm not looking to rewrite history with this thing, I'm just looking to share the SD card with the OS and strip out all of the bloatware so that my kid can call me on this thing with skype and sync a gmail calendar account. Pretty simple, but don't want it getting bogged down.
I thank you guys in advance for your helpful responses and look forward to getting this old beast humming again!

****edit I managed to get the latest nightly cm11 into my device after reading many threads with instructions buried down in the comments. Unfortunately my phone runs slowly, way slower than stock. Is this normal for the builds due to the increased resource requirements from kk? Is it a stability issue, if so what is the latest stable build? Is anyone active through this place anymore or is it a parking zone for old phones?
Hello. I need your help. I can not get by any aside Stock Rom . More specifically, the Rom Retail Latinoamerica Moto Defy MB525.

Bricked defy, white LED
I'm in a sticky situation with my moto defy, tried to install cyanogenmod (done this several times) but as i was installing the rom, the phone restarted and started directly on bootloader. I tried to get it to come back to recovery (no use), and went back to trying to install an SBF file, here's where i screwed up badly, almost all sbf files for the defy are in shutdowned servers, so i couldn't download my original carrier file (personal argentina), and tried one that i found on another page, and after installing that file, i got a black screen with the LED turning white when i plug it into de pc, and it being recognized by RSD lite. after that i tried several files, all giving the same result, or showing the bootloader screen with a 4 byte error written in 2hex,2hex,2hex,2hex form.
4.5.1-134-DFP-132 - retail-en-de full Blur
Any chance to get 4.5.1-134-DFP-132 - retail-en-de full Blur ? The link to the thread doesen't work, I found some mirrors to many defy+ stock roms, but apparently I can't find this one.
This is the rom that officially comes with my phone.. so I will like to have it stored on my hard drive in case i make some mistakes while flashing - playing with roms..
Also.. right now I'm using nightly cyanogen 7.2 jordan plus rom, and it works very well.. But I would also like to try a stock rom without blur motorola services and without google apps.. any suggestion will be appreciated
Thanks

First make sure your phone is rooted and you have latest twrp custom recovery
Also make sure you are on a marshmallow based ROM. RR 5.8.0 has Nougat. Then just google "How to flash a ROM".
Download gapps package from opengapps.org
Choose ARM -> 7.1 -> (whichever package you want)
