Hello Everyone - Glad to have finally created account - Surround General

Hello fello phone enthusiasts. Would just like to introduce myself and say I hope to contribute much to this community as I have to others. I am getting back into modifying phones once again. With all the new smartphones out I need to get familiar with everything 100%. Originally with smartphones I was a Windows Mobile user to start with until Androids came out. From what I have found out by toying around and reading up.. They are not too difficult and I am already onto rooting my Droid Incredible after a bit more research. When it comes to preferred brands I usually stick with HTC, Samsung, Nokia and Overseas phone brands for the most part.
There is a little about myself.
Cheers,

newbie introduction

Hi guys,
I realise I may have upset people by posting a question before I have contributed anything to the forum.
Will be happy to do so when I have the phone up and running.
Here's a quick introduction......... if that's the protocol.
Am a retired aged person who loves tinkering with new technology. Was first introduced to computers with the Sinclair ZX81 which had 1k of ram, yes 1k!
I even got a 16k rampak for the back. Such wonderful technology, I also had a fiddle with machine code programming.
Then I got a Commodore 64, more fun. Later on, I got a Psion, again more programming and compiling fun. Then laterley I have a couple of pc's and a laptop. Also got recently a psp and liked it so much that I bought another one with custom firmeware on it. Have had lots of fun upgrading and such.
Just got a garmin for the car too for when we go off to France for a few months with caravan.
Just a quick introduction as to who I am. Have had a look at some of the posts and I have lots to learn. Thanks for making it happen to a golden oldie.
Cheers

True knownledge starts by listening first and questioning later but... if you posted questions you must have read something somewhere around here... I don't think anyody should feel upset.
Several people SUCKS, many are talented, some got Genius.
Thanks Tolt for the welcome. Am really looking forward to playing with my new toy. I have had a HP IPAQ for about 4 years and have fallen out with it of late, primarily 'cause it doesn't have phone capabilities. New toy will resolve this issue.

Android on the Samsung Omnia!

Hey People!
I've got a Samsung Omnia and I would really really like to have Android on the Omnia, but unfortunately I'm not really technical enough to be able to port Android to the Omnia myself. Searching on the net for an 'installer of android' I saw that I am not the only one wanting this, so I decided to start an initiative; www.AndroidOmnia.com
The person or organisation who manages to get Android working on the Samsung Omnia will get all the money that we are able to bring together. We currently have $276.43 contributed by people who also want Android on the Omnia. We hope that this incentive will get more developers to devote some energy to it!
Of course we are looking to raise a lot more money since all that hard developing work should be rewarded! So If you also support this cause please visit www.AndroidOmnia.com and contribute some money as well!
Looking forward to get Android on my Omnia!
This is a great Idea!
But i have a question:
While reading the "Rules" i was wondering there is no "Timeline".
(or i just didnt read carefully?)
If no one is contributing an Android-Port in the next Years, what will you do with the Money? Buy the new Samsung Android-Phone for yourself?
Maybe you should set a Date until it should be delivered and if the date passed without an Android-Port, donators get most of their money back. (of course there are some transfer-costs)
If you do so, i will donate something too.
@ z3ntn3l
That is indeed a valid point. I didn't really think of that. I just figured it must happen sometime or another..
I'll add it to the website as soon as I have some more time for it. What kind of timeline do you think is reasonable. 1 year? 6 months?
So there is actually people working on this? You can't really make a timeline if you dont have a developer or a team of people working from one repository.
Well yeah. I agree. That is why I didn't set a timeline in the beginning. But since z3ntn3l said that would be better I was thinking it would be nice to the people who donate money.
On the other side, it would be bad as well if a person or organisation is working hard to get things going and they miss the deadline. I would then already have paid all the money back to the people who contributed and the person developing would be left with nothing.
I think it is better that I don't set a timeline at this point. If nothing really seems to be happening after more than half a year I will be more than happy to pay the money back to the people who contributed. I hope this will give you enough security to contribute anyway z3ntn3l..
Are there for the rest any tips how I can get this more in the publicity or anything else..? I would love to get into contact with people who are interested in porting Android..
well, i think six months is a good date.
If there is a serious developer/project who needs more time, can contact you and you can post that info on your site.
by the way, where are you from? Europe/U.S.?
by the way 2: wrote this from my Omnia
Six months could maybe be a good time. But I guess what I'll do is put a line in the FAQ that in the case of an absence of activity on this project after a reasonable time (6 months), all contributors will get their money back. Would that be friendly to both developers and contributors?
btw. I am from the Netherlands..
How about this article?
I also wanted to know how to flash omnia windows mobile os to android.
And, I searched this article now, but I don't know this is possible.
I don't have omnia phone now..but maybe some weeks later, I could have it.
So, could you test this article? It is below.

HSPL and ROM virgin no longer

Everytime I google anything regarding my HD2 it brings me to this forum, which I know is predominantly for developers, but says a lot about the genuine customer service teams, whether it be manufacturers or service providers. So thanks!
I don't understand most of the processes or jargon used here, but got some good guidance from Wacky Bannana, who has shown me where to look for answers as opposed to telling me them, which has helped me get to grips with a lot of the terms I would never have known.
Using the sticky thread Walkthroughs and videos, I've just finished adding hspl and updating my ROM. Extemely pleased with myself right now, even though it's simple.
I was somewhat put off initially, after reading so may complaints about sms bugs, dodgy camera, the fact the US is getting better specs etc and people wanting to move to Apple or Google, but sod it, it's been fun learning all this and a bit of patience and appreciation for everyone's hardwork, and I can look forward to building on what is already a great phone. I'd hate to end up like my David Brentesque boss who answers every question by pulling out his Iphone and saying, "I've got an app for that!"
Laugh it up dickhead, I can run two things at once.
Cheers
hello,
strangely enough i popped my rom updating cherry tonight too. i imagine this is probably not the right place to do it but i just wanted to thank all of you for all the help you provide here. i was dazed and confused and like harris everytime i googled something i would be led right back here.
i have a t-mobile phone with its silly restrictions and lazy software. since updating roms, if i didn't love my phone before now i want to have its child.
i'm incredibly grateful for the assistance. much more to search through - next step registry editor. thanks again everyone and apologies for my maiden post most likely being in the wrong spot.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hello everyone! I wasn't sure where to put this... I wanted to put it under the android development section, but didn't want to clutter anything. So, I am pretty much a noob when it comes to all of these modifications to phones. I have pretty much been reading these forums non-stop for the past few days, and the amount of information on here is incredible. Last night I flashed the Axura 2.2.6 ROM to my phone with no problems! I was amazed at how easy it was! All of the applications people developed are so useful like ROM manager and Titanium backup. You could never get these kinds of tools and info from the manufacturer. I am truly in awe of the smarts and talent the people on this website have. So thank you so much, for taking the time to create and put tutorials together, so people like me, who don't understand all of the programming language and resources needed to make something like a custom ROM come together, be able to reap all of the benefits my phone has to offer.
-Tara
P.S. I wanted to click the "Thanks" button on a lot of the threads, but it wasn't there?!
Glad to have you around and glad that the Forums helped you out. This is a tight group (most of the time) even if a lot of issues around Samsung currently going on.
Thanks for the welcome! I look forward to what comes out in the future for these phones... as far as controversey around Samsung... I was part of the group that was dealing with Motorola and the Motorola Cliq. I was able to get out of that mess and switched to the Vibrant, and I feel like I'm encountering it all over again. I know the manufacturers have no obligation to give us updates, but then don't promise it! And if it comes, it's kind of like a really nice surprise! When companies make promises like an upgrade by a certain date, and don't follow through, of course people are going to be pissed! But, with the help of developers, we can enjoy all the benefits the phones have to offer. And probably, the modifications made by developers are better than the manufacturers would do anyway!
Welcome
Tara, glad to have you here, as you already know these forums are a wealth of information regarding your phone. I also got to the vibrant from a bad experience with a phone. (the Samsung Behold II) Follow along, don't be afraid to ask questions when you have them, as someone will most always be there to help. You may even find like I did that you don't need to worry so much about the updates promised by TMO and Samsung. Most of the 2.2 ROMS we have available to us now are already beyond what the updates would give us anyway. So I would encourage you to read, read, read through the threads and to support the developers wether it be Team Whiskey, Master, Eugene, or whoever.
But most of all, welcome
Welcome, because of the people here you will so much more enjoyment from the phone. You are right the stock item is really substandard compared to the custom awesome work of the people in the android family and specifically this forum.
Keep reading, especially the stickys/bible and other notable instructions.
Enjoy and welcome
I have been lurking around<(creepy?lol) and reading the crap out of stickies here for about a month now, and I too would like to extend a token of grattitude to all of the extremely intelligent and helpful members here. Thanks for taking the time to explain procedures clearly and concisely. The custom roms and information you have provide truly make this device awesome.
-Brad
P.S. Sorry for jacking your thread Tara, but I didnt want to add another thanks to the general.
Thanks for all the friendly messages everyone! And that's ok Brad! All day I have been watching folders open on my phone, and just the way the flip out, out of nowhere, is so cool!!! I am just amazed at the work the developers have put into making these phones run so well. And, on top of that, sharing the wealth with all of us, and including step by step written tutorials and videos. They have my complete gratitude and I truly look forward to see what they think of next!

So You Want The One?

Hey guys, if you want the One, there are a ways of going about it...I'm speaking this from experience because I have gotten an invite, and 4 of my friends have (some devs, some not). I know some of these are obvious, but sometimes, people disregard some of the most obvious ways
So what's makes us special? That's the beautiful part: nothing
I'll start off by saying how I got it. I was one of the first 5000 members of the forums. But I never posted. like ever lol. Eventually, I checked my spam and saw the invite. Easy enough. So be alert
Next, one of my friends was the opposite of me. He was late to the forum, but really enjoyed the OnePlus community. He was very active. He got to the "kitkat" level in the forum system and soon enough, he got an invite. So be active
My second friend got it because he won one of their contests. Simple as that. So be aware.
Lastly, two of my friends got it via invites from people they knew. So be social.
Now, if you're really impatient, buy the ColorOS edition OnePlus, and flash CM11S onto it. That's my last piece of advice: be flexible
A summation for those who don't want to spend time:
Be Alert
Be Active
Be Aware
Be Social
It's just a phone, not a Target's team members seminar. Pretty sure eventually the phone will become widely available and the exclusivity will wear off.

Oh it will definitely. But people don't want to wait. There are literally thousands of people begging for invites on G+ and the OnePlus forums. I just thought I'd share my experiences to help the people who really want it
Also, I actually like Target lol. I made the post like this just because I thought it was easier to follow and simpler to remember
