[Q] Ringtone association - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, First time: sorry if you don't undertand very well I'm not an english speaker but I'm going to do best I can.
I have this problem: when I manage my contacts I have associated a personal ringtone for one contact, up here, all good, but the problem starts when the sound notification of this contact change to his personal ringtone.
i.e. I associate a song for a contact and when He calls me, I can listen his personal ringtone, but when he sends me a message I can listen his personal ringtone too!!
I don't like it and I'd like know how can I change this without changing stock rom and discard this change, because I can't restore the personal ringtone of this contact to default.
Thanks in advance.

You might try a third party SMS app? Go SMS, Handcent, Chomp, etc.

Sorry, I'm going to explain better
I don't need a third party SMS, because this problem I have with any application that it uses sounds notification like: whatsapp, sms, facebook and more.
I need an aplicacion which I can manage ringtone for calls and notifications for separate. Android associates the personal ringtone for calls and notifications I'd like manage this with one ringtone for call and one diferent for notifications for any contact.
I hope you can understand better... if not I die :silly:
Thanks!

customizing sms sounds

Hello,
is there a way to customize the sms notification sound depending on the contact. E.g. contact a gets sms sound a and contact b gets sms sound b and so on.
Natively, you can only customize the ringtone of a contact, don't you?
Thanks in advance

Email / SMS Notification Tone

Hello,
Is there a way of having a different tone for a new SMS and a different tone for a new Email recieved?
At the moment, all notifications sound the same, so you cannot distiguish between new email, sms etc, without looking at the phone.
Cheers,
Go to the relevant app e.g. gmail and then click menu and then change the notification sound to whatever you want...
You can set the sms sound in the sms settings, not for emails though so I guess emails use the default notification sound.
In Gmail menu > more > select ringtone
and you can change what appears in the list by creating folders for the notifications, then moving the sounds there
Problem with the phone is you can't have different tones for different people which is annoying.
You can have different ringtones for different contacts....

No contact ringtones???

I tried a couple of apps and I cant seem to assing custom ringtones to a contact, i know this can be done in android but why we can do it on our tabs??? Not that i have tons of people calling me but more like texts lol
You have to copy contacts to "phone"
You also need "ring extended" after you add contact to phone the personal ring tone option will show

Incoming SMS not processed by 3rd party app

Hello, i am trying to configure applications like Where Is My Droid.
Unfortunally every SMS i get it seems to be not processed by the application. The SMS is received and showed like a normal SMS but the application dont automatic respond to it.
I have another app that make ring the phone with a simple sms, so when you lost your phone you can make it unmute and ring. Ofcourse this app dont work like Where Is My Droid.
I am using hangout as default sms app.
Any idea on how to fix it ?

Unable to replace "ding" sound from FB Messenger app on Samsung S7 Edge

I apologize if this is not the correct forum/thread to post this . . .
I am trying to change the "ding" sound that FB Messenger plays everything a new message arrives but I haven't had any success. I have changed both the Notification Sound and Ringtone sound but it seems that these sounds are separate from where the "ding" notification from and I can't find the location where to change it. The smartphone is not rooted. I appreciate any assistance you can provide.
It's in the "Notifications & Sounds" settings under in the Messenger app.
The default notification sound is called "Messenger" -- change it to whatever you want.
This post (#3) and post #4 are Identical. as I accidentally posted it twice and am unable to delete this post. Please refer to post #4.

Got it! Thank you. I have downloaded and transferred couple of sounds file onto the Notification folder of the smartphone and have been able to select them as an option for other apps (facebook, instagram, etc.) but for some reason I don't see those as an option with FB Messenger. I tried placing it in other folders but had no luck. Is it a specific folder where I should place the file in order to see it as an option for FB Messenger?

I had the same problem. You have them in the right spot, but you need to give Messenger permission to access them.
I have a somewhat related question.. when a notification comes from, let's say, an sms app and I have my phone set to notify me every minute of unread notification, how do I make the sound of repeat notification the same as the the original notification of whatever notified me on the first place (in this case sms app)?

I'm not sure if this is related at all but either way, in order for these experts to help you, I think you need to be a bit more specific (at least for me to try to help ) such as what is the name of this sms app and an example of what you're trying to do exactly.

Okay so I have an SMS application called go SMS pro and I have a ring tone set for it through go SMS pro app. when I receive a text message that ring tone rings but when the notification keeps repeating the sound at this point is different , it's the default in the system instead of the one I set in the app. I hope that's a little bit more clear . I used to be able to set the ring tone for repeat notifications directly in the app but that was an older versions now I have to set it through my phone settings and that sound is different than the one set in go SMS pro. also the repeat notification sound that is set in my phone settings sounds for everything that gets repeated doesn't matter of the application. so I have different ring tones set for different applications but when that notification gets repeated it all defaults to just one ring tone stead of the ones I set for each application
