Greenify - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way possible to greenify slacker radio? I doubt there is but slacker keeps my phone awake when it's not in use.. I know it's a long shot but has anyone been able to get this to work thanks so much

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to, as long as its not a system app (which it obviously isn't on the N4)

the problem is that grennify will do its job and kill slacker when the screen if off even if it is on and streaming. greenify should know it is in use and not kill. not sure If it can tell the difference between using and just being idle.

Random reboots

Had the phone for just over 24 hours and have had two random reboots. Anyone else or is it just me?

Nop' Just you !
Perhaps it's something I've installed.

Lots of apps haven't updated for 4.2 yet...
And I trust you've installed the OTA update?
Yep, updated almost immediately.
If it keeps doing it I'll start uninstalling stuff.... I suspect something with an active widget, so HD Widgets or Astrid...

Don't have that problem here

Have had 3 reboots in 3 days twice while using Dolphin browser and once when using the mini info app.
My first was half way through a YouTube video, the second was just after loading tapatalk I think....

I think its the apps not being updated for 4.2 tbh. I got the launcher to FC on me with Friend caster not long after I posted.
I hope so, but I've not had a single random reboot on my N7. Plenty of FCs mind you!

I actually had a random reboot about 20 minutes ago. I have an HD Widget clock on my lockscreen. I think mine happened while using Tapatalk though. Glad someone else experienced this. It was my only one so far though but I've had the phone <24 hours
I might try taking my HD Widgets off for a while.

Thread moved to Q & A section, post in the relevant section next time.

I'm using HD Widgets and have not had any force closes. I have one on my home screen and another on a lock screen. However, it does seem to be using a lot of battery (7% of usage).
Hmm.. I haven't had any reboots yet, working perfectly.

I had some random reboots. I think about 10 since friday...
Have had 2 random reboots. Once during Netflix testing 20 minutes into Breaking Bad and once when I turned on the phone and the screen was frozen for a few seconds.
I've had the phone since Thursday haven't had any random reebots

GTalk and battery?

Curious, does GTalk consume a lot of RAM and does it have a great deal on battery? I want to leave it on so my daughter can IM me with her tablet when she's at her mom's. And great that it has video.. Haven't used gtalk in a long time. Thank you. I don't see it running in the battery history though... :/

I've used it on android for years and never felt like it had an adverse effect on battery life. Go for it.

What about ram? I know we have a lot on this phone but still want to know.. It runs in the background right?
Sent from my Nexus 4
Na, it doesn't take up much RAM. And yea, it does run in the background but it goes into Push mode after a while
No

Gtalk is very good on battery. Until you do a video call.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Ok, thanks guys.
Personally, I freeze Google Talk using titanium backup (you can disable it natively in apps on settings menu) because I don't use it. But since you have a usage for it, I don't think it uses a lot of ram. You have more than enough RAM so i wouldn't worry about it.
One thing definitely to do is to disable Google Latitude if you haven't already (it's in Maps and is on by default to report your location automatically). If they helped, press the thanks button
I dont use several Google services, and I freeze them without any problems.. Since sometimes they drain battery

Google Services battery usage

I've had this phone for just under a week. I'm rooted, but running stock. Is Google Services supposed to be using this much battery (more than the screen)? The screen had 2 hours and 44 minutes.
Thanks for any assistance!

My Android System uses #1. I guess they are glitches. Samsung Link was using #2 until I disabled it.

Yeah, now today Google services is way down from where it was. Strange. I guess I'll just keep an eye on it. My battery life is still amazing...

I noticed the same thing the first couple of days I had the phone and then it stopped. Possible uploading backups to google?
I never had the issue just like many of you dont see this Android System taking up all the cpu. I wonder if that's caused by me having my GPS on and set to show my location at all times so my close friends can locate me.

[Q] battery draining by chrome and hangout!

well recently i upgraded to android 4.3 by OTA and i have no problem just i notice a huge battery draining by hangout when I was using it and then it happened with google chrome.. they even had more battery usage than screen on even! is it happening for everyone or its just something for me?!
It is larger then the screen because you did not use the screen much.
Chrome is draining battery by using the sandbox process, you may force stop it.

Once I had lot of wake locks from hangout and plus, I just went to configurations and deselect the auto sync and then select again..
Battery drain stop after it.

Alright guys, I need the best battery saving apps out there

I'm going on a sixteen hours journey, hoping to pass the time with my Nexus 4.... Playing games(Asphalt 8), watching a movie & listening to my music.
So what do you guys recommend as the best battery saving app? Plus I need a video player that can dim the screen brightness more than MX player, since it's a night time journey, I don't need that much brightness at all.
Thanks in advance guys!

dont use an app for that... underclock and undervolt, turn everything off that you dont need and dimm your screen... you propably wont make it anyway for this long... apps use energy, they dont save it...

In my experience the best battery saver is the airplane mode. Disconnecting antennas you save a lot of battery.
My two cents.
Agree with both of these posts ^^^

Juice defender been helping me extend my battery for years..works great.
Get Mobo player ... Best video player hands down..plays any format.
I bought juice pack from monoprice.com for those long flights..

Get lux to dim the screen. I would just buy a cheap portable battery.

What's good for underclocking? I personaly tried 4 different apps, and underclocking just works for like half'n hour, then the max clock goes back to 1.5GHz. Looks like it doesn't matter which app I use.
These are the apps I tried so far:
Trickster MOD Kernel Settings
System Tuner Pro
franko.Kernel updater
No-frills CPU Control
BatteryGuru from Qualcomm, and of course a power bank!
Battery saver type applications only work by disabling services well the phone is sleeping, so the more the phone sleeps the more good they do, Qualcomm Battery Guru disables synching or changes synch schedules, Juice Defender does similar plus adds disabling mobile data except at certain synch time intervals, none of them will do anything to make your battery last all say, especially if you are using the phone.
Best bet, really your only bet, to get 16 hours of use is an external power source of some kind.
Get a power bank like mentioned. Amazon has hassle less returns if you do not "like"

There is no best so, but common sense. Just manually turn off things you don't need or use the phone less or by a tablet and do the videos and gaming on it instead. Portable battery charger works too.

You're going to need an external battery if you want to watch a video for any more time than a few hours.
