Oh how the world turns - Xperia Z General

So the chase for the HTC One is over. Im in the US and today on twitter HTC confirmed its coming in April. And to that I say f*uck you HTC go die in a ditch. Im looking to get an Xperia Z from Negrielectronics to use on ATT. I am perfectly fine with getting good HSPA+ connection. I dont have LTE where I live and am usually on wifi when doing anything substantial like downloading something. Would the Z be a good device to buy? Remember it is around 750$ while the Note 2 is 650$ along with the iPhone from ATT.
BTW, 1 complaint I see is about the Z's flaps. Call me crazy, but a year ago every review site was saying "we miss the little door to protect the charging port from dust". In particular when the Epic (GS1) had this but the Evo didn't and thats what they held against it. Now there are flaps...everywhere so we all can do fun things in the shower without worrying about phones dying...ummm and also taking pictures while in a pool or what-not of course !And people still complain. I dont get it.

The minor inconvenience for water resistance is worth it

What's your take on the phone itself? Worth the money I'd spend?

Device is wonderful and this is the first time i see a device have polished screen just like iPhone 5.
So it worth the money.

Its a great decision and a beautiful device!

good phone

its an awesom phone.
even the sony apps and tweaks that sony have made to android makes it better than vanilla android and shows they spent a long time thinking about it.
awesome phone is awesome.
until you take battery life into consideration.
with web browsing, you might get more than 4 hours on screen time.
with watching videos, about 3.5 hours on screen time.
doing something demanding like real racing 3, prob more like under 3 hours on screen time.
I'm investing in an external battery.
i cannot see any other way around it.

i am very fussy about my things i have owned a lot of devices two a year sometimes just never owned an iphone i bought one once turned it on for a day my sister made a comment about it and i gave it to her iphones are so boring lol, back on topic i can say that the sony xperia z by far is my best device it outshines almost everything i ever had camera quality not so great in my opionion but i know its all software and very confident it will be fixed dont get me wrong still takes some pretty good pics.
I have a habit of comparing everything to my dslr but apart from that the phone is amazing. the only other phone that had a good camera in my opionion by sony was the sony ericsson satio.
the flaps on the phone are so easy to open and are not at all a problem you can open them with using just one finger as apposed to my xperia s which is very fiddly and annoying but i bought the charging dock so its all good. we are living in a wireless world now so opening up the flap to use the headphone jack just seams like a waste really. the speaker on the phone is mediocre but again i have never used loud speaker for anything unless its handsfree and for that its great clear and loud. i walked into phone shop and used one of the nfc speakers and was amazed by the quality for such a small speaker.
cant convince you to buy it but i always go on what looks good and how it makes me feel and i can tell you that the htc one and the samsung gs4 didnt even raise an eyebrow with me the phone is fast enough and by the time we need that extra power im sure it will be time to buy a new device.
phone overall is great it has the looks the feel and the performance im sure you will not be disapointed.

im getting over 4 hours screen on time easy and thats with 75% brightness and still probably get more out of it if i let it drain completly and im sure with better optimization it will get better but than again thats what they said about the sony xperia s and that has the worse battery ever

Thanks guys. Looks like Im going to take the plunge

looks like there will be no CM support for S4!! No member is willing to buy it or develop anything for it as there are huge amount of bugs on the S3 already.
delay launch of HTC One, No CM support for S4 = less developers for them and more developers for Sony? lets hope so
We have some bad news for those who’d love to run a cleaner Android version on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4 flagship. The CyanogenMod developers have come up with a statement announcing they are not going to support the smartphone.
Not a single guy from the CyanogenMod team considers buying the device and give it a shot.
Here is the official statement:
Nobody at Team Hacksung (the team behind Galaxy S2, Note, S3, Note2, G Tabs… official CM ports) plans to buy it, neither develop for it. There are two variants which will be a pain to maintain, [and] the bugs we have on the S3 will probably be there on S4, too (camera), and we all know Samsung ability to release sources while staying in line with mainline. Yes Qualcomm releases sources, but Exynos sources we had were far from [working on] actual Galaxy products. I’m pretty sure the same will happen for this one.
That’s a uniform “no” from us.
The CM guys are probably right to deny support for the Galaxy S4 since Samsung is so clumsy with the source files. After all, limited documentation prevents the development and no one would use a buggy custom ROM over the fully operational stock one.
And while the number of people wanting to buy Galaxy S4 with the idea to run stock Android on it is low enough not to affect the company’s sales targets, the attitude of the company to 3rd party developers is certainly not great.
Update:The CyanogenMod organization made a comment regarding device expectations:
Let’s start with the simplest form of this: CyanogenMod does not pre-announce support or lack of support for devices. Ever. Even for the Nexus 4, we did not announce support until a nightly build was available. Further, any announcement regarding the ‘dropping’ of device support will be communicated via this Google+ page, Twitter, Facebook, our blog, or a combination of those; it will not be something buried in a forum post.
This morning, a comment from a CM collaborator on XDA was taken to be as an ‘absolute’ in regards to support of the S4. He offered the opinion of four TeamHacksung maintainers, their frustrations and lack of interest in supporting the S4. What’s seemingly lost on those reading this is that his comments as an individual do not speak for CyanogenMod as an organization.
As for the team’s stance on the S4, there isn’t one at this time, and most definitely won’t be one before the device is sold at retail.
Anyway, Samsung most probably won’t release documentation for the Exynos processor, so the international Galaxy S4 is still a no-go for a CM version.

Why all the Samsung misconception and hate?

I have seen numerous HTC fans spew crap about Samsung for updates and build quality issues. For example, many state that the plastic build quality is of very low quality, of which is very opposite in reality in which in plastic is actually very solid. I have dropped my Vibrant many times and it still looks like new, can't say that about metal which dents and gets dinged. As for updates, blame your carriers. The international versions got updates several months before the carrier versions.
Here are some quotes from some obvious HTC users.
"Last year, Consumer Reports (a major U.S. publication) branded the U.S. Galaxy S versions as some of the best Android phones. Not only were they NOT the best, they were missing some basic functionality and lagged like a phone from a previous generation. Let's not even talk about lack of support from Samsung. Too many people fall for the SAMOLED eye candy and ignore everything else."
Or "Thank god I have some help.. hehe I honestly dunno why these SamSux people think S G II is pretty muhahua. It's one ugly plastic crap i've ever seen. They keep coming in HTC thread telling people to buy their plastic crap. "
Or "Another troll just childish, u will se Samsung will never have so awesome devs like HTC phones have especially when.I look at the desire section, a lot of them will buy a sensation and that's the reason why i will buy one to "
What do you think about the public conception of Samsung here at XDA?
The first quote is spot on. The lag was unbearable, the GPS inop, and support was nonexistent. Samoled was nice until you seen the jagged text. Battery life was also terrible. The phones are usable now, after 3-4 updates (updates that were bricking phones and frying storage, mind you) but the GPS is still borderline useless for lots of people and it still lags more than a Samsung jack wm6.5 device (by a long shot).
I they do better with the s2 good for them, but they are indefendable irt these phones. Hype can only get you so far...

Way to read my first paragraph. Support was due to the carriers, not Samsung directly. And I still do not understand what this lag is, even on JFD I had installed 30 apps and still little to no lag for me.
And the jagged text? have both a HD7 and a HD2 with me no, and I see no difference worth speaking of between the screens. I do 20/20 vision.
Battery life terrible? Wait till you see the desire HD or thunderbolt. The GS2 has also been reported to have good battery life.
Have you even tried a custom rom N8ter? CM7 nevers lags, even when underclocked to 400 mhz. And as to that HTC phones work better out of the box statement, we are on XDA. Hell, many of those HTC fanboys wanted the Sensation due to the dev attention they believed it would get, even with a locked bootloader.
I don't mod my phones and nor should anyone be expected to. The performance of the phone now is usable. Where was cyanogen in august to December 2010, though?
Don't answer that.
Bunch of excuses. What you quoted is true.
Text on a samoled panel is more jagged than on others. Its a side effect of the pen tile pixel arrangement used. Its very noticeable when you have white text on a black background - at least for me it is.
These panels also suffer from burnin more than any other screen type I've used.
Support from carriers does not help when the hardware is faulty (gps)'or the device has design flaw like rfs. Samsung can push out an update that replaces rfs. They choose not to. They should have recalled phones with known hw gps falls but.they just blamed it on the users andbgave them a useless tool to rwser some setting many of us never touched to begin with.
I read your whole post btw, bit I'm typing from devices so stop acting.like I'm obligated to comment on or rebut every tucking thing in it...

This is the fourth vibrant I've had, gps was piss poor, and I was able to get new ones because of it. This newest handset has really good locks. I like the phone even after the gps problems. I bought an otter box and some ghost armor. With the case it feels solid. I know not everyone will get a case to make the phone feel built but it's nice. Id buy another samsung device no problem. I like the feel and ease of use.

Fact: Despite samsung's delay in releasing froyo for the vibrant and it's GPS problems, the vibrant was/is still a greatr phone with an awesome display and great hardware!
Guys , am just wating for galaxy s 2 , rumour has it that it is going to be the best smart phone for a long time!!
I have to agree with N8ter. This will probably be my last Samsung device. I told myself from the start I'd never get another Samsung device, but it was all Asurion had to replace my water-damaged, but beloved N1. Ugh. I wish I had waited for them to get something else.
The lag KILLS me! I want to throw the damn phone against the wall or some concrete almost daily. Samsung could have definitely kept RFS to their damn selves. Even the browser lags on me most times.
I get a bunch of missed calls even when I have full coverage. The only way I'd even know I would miss them is if my girlfriend would text me to pick up my phone or check Google Voice for missed calls.
The GPS... yeah. Go back to the comment about me wanting to throw my phone against the hardest surface available, and multiply that by 100. The GPS has almost made me late for several appointments (job interviews, drug testing, etc.), and actually gotten me lost in my own native home of Atlanta. I don't get how the hell the GPS can possibly think I'm somewhere .5 miles away then where I am actually am.
I absolutely hate how it doesn't have an LED. NoLED does the job, but isn't really what I would call a suitable replacement.
I also hate how it looks like an iPhone. If I wanted an iPhone lookalike, I would have went out and bought an iPhone. I am really tired of people always asking me, "Is that an iPhone?"
I also despise TouchWiz. I despise manufacturer skins in general, but touchwiz REALLY grinds my gears.
One of the very few good redeeming qualities about this damn phone is the amount of internal storage, but which I barely make use of b/c of wanting to keep all of files stored on my external. I also like the dev tools they have, such as Odin. It's saved me a couple of times from bad flashing and just plain operator error. I also like how easy it was to install the front facing camera. But, then again, why the hell should I have to install it in the first place?
Overall, I am not a happy camper with Samsung. Once I start this new job, or get my financial aid refund check , it's definitely time for a new phone, and it sure as hell won't be Samsung. I was thinking about giving this phone to my girlfriend to replace her T-Mobile Tap, but I don't know if I want to torture her that much.
P.S. This is after using custom roms. God forbid how horrid my experience would have been on stock. I think I might have really thrown it in oncoming traffic.
its obvious that you're stuck in your mindset, so why even start a thread? its useless. coming from an owner of both brands, each have pros and cons. my epic and inspire both have poor battery life. inspire is smooth while the epic lags. furthermore, my epic has better overall display, but the inspire looks better picture wise, not contrast or color, quality. my point is, phones appeal to one person or another. no need for a useless thread targeting one manufacturer.

It is quite fast and has a much more pleasant desing than most other HTC phones.
Only problem is the HORRIBLE gps.

You are just whining and repeating what other members have stated so many times in this thread. HTC sucks, Samsung will always be better. All the problems that you are whining about disappeared when custom roms came. That's the point of custom roms so you don't have to use the crappy stock firmware. Anyway if you are still having trouble after using a custom rom and still think you have room to complain, then you probably shouldn't even own an android device and it is most likely user error. You're just an HTC fanboy, I am not saying that Samsung is the best but they are better than HTC. On top of that the Vibrant outdoes most of the new phones and all of the older phones that T-mobile has and it's over 6 months old. So quit basing your opinions on the phone off of your HTC loyalty.

And you're a closed-minded Samsung fanboy so you can take your opinion and go eat shi* for all I care. Most of my complaints might have been stated already, but clearly the more times it's stated proves it's not just isolated incidents. I'm not basing my phone off of any loyalty. I'm basing it off of the fact that it frustrates the hell out of me. And I assure you it's not user error. I've been dealing with computers and electronics and modding etc since I was 7 and am a computer science major, so I assure you it's not user error. Every single one of those problems has persisted since I used a custom rom, and who the hell are you to tell me I shouldn't own an Android device? I know all about custom roms and have been using them since I got my first smartphone, the HTC wizard. If you think Samsung is better than HTC, that's fine. We're all entitled to our opinion. I, however, could care less about another Samsung phone ever again. I really regret the day my Nexus One fell in that pot of water.

I like the sgs line. Sure, there not the best out there, but as a rom chef and themer, I can honestly say this this phone is the best for that. Almost unbrickable. Don't forget, with HTC and moto(dont quote me on moto), they don't have Odin. That is a HUGE selling point for me. I would be pissed if I spent $x on a HTC phone, and had a bad flash. Pretty cool ! I like how it supported 3g video calling in 2005 I had a Nokia 6630 then
To each their own.
I am commited to buying a usa sgs2. Why with the terrible support we've had? I truely think that samsung has learned their lesson. Releasing the source so soon after the phones launch is amazing. I have also read just about every review and watched every video. Its exactly the experience I want.
Even with all the problems of the sgs... I still love it. The reason why I know I love it is cause I am currently using a mytouch 4g. Its great that I can overclock it to 1.5ghz. A friend of mine still uses this as his daily phone, he managed to preserved it all this long in a mint condition too

[Q] What would you replace your X10 with?

And here goes the debate: "Which would be your logical replacement for your Xperia X10"!
Of course we all know that we have a phone that was released some time ago, and in technological standards it is an "oldie but Goldie". I am thinking I had a fair deal with my X10, which is why I will probably use it for quite some time until my tech-bug hits the necessity of the newest available (and cheap) advances in smartphones. This is where all the ppl here which not only have one, but 2 or more smartphones, come in. You obvious better knowledge of the latest and greatest gives my room to confide in your opinion, and taking in consideration that the region I am at, has only recently been taking in the possibility of getting 4G through Claro, a latin provider of such technologies, maybe we can still settle for the sluggish 3.5G (although I admit it must be a thrill to have 100Mbit/s or even 1Gbit/s soaring on my handset), as long as what I have in hand is a Gargantuan of the Smartphone arena.
Things I would take in account:
Screen size: I like to scroll through music on my X10, which is fun, especially when it helps you with that unknown tune that you never studied, but since you sightread, might give you all you need to know before showtime. 3.7+ screens with the highest resolutions possible
Processing speed: THE MUST, the faster the merrier!
Software Support: Although that is settled with XDA (and other places that have great devs, sadly not working together with xda in some cases), the latest updates are magnificent to have
Connectivity: Because not only 4G (which in Panama might start being a bit expensive), but WIFI and BT, plus the connectables, you know!
Sturdiness: Yes, the X10 lacks it... today my mom let my x10 go to the ground... CONNECTED! I spent 2 hours trying to fix the microUSB to be able to charge, which finally happened... but some other models have Titanium/Vibranium/Adamantium/WillNotBreakium/Lastforeverium covering plus a protective 7-point Barrier Chakra enchantment and Harry Potter type seals, plus Legolas, Aragorn and Gandalf protecting it... what I mean is, Si vis pacem, parabellum (to seek peace, prepare for war), and maybe you are going to be super protective with your baby, but one can't be so sure!
Last but not least
Price: Hey, technology is getting cheaper every day, not saying flea-market prices, but at least affordable enough when buying without a data/call plan, since I work independently, is not going to put a hole in my economy, plus it will last a long time before getting outdated... yeah, too much to ask, but I'm putting it out there for analysis
Bring in your opinions and advices! All are welcome!
Is this really the right place for this discussion? if it's about replacing the X10, it's not about the X10.
I am getting a Nokia N9.
In the Android world, I'd get a Galaxy S II.

Yikes... is there a place for a post like GENERAL ANDROID PHONE? If so, I don't mind if my thread is put in the right place; just thought since I speak of the X10 as my CURRENT main phone, I was wondering the people's opinion on which would be the best replacement for it, me being a current happy user, only wanting to upgrade to something that would be mostly like it, only just... well... newer?
you forgot hdmi port
i think HTC Sensation 4G is probably best of wait for Sony's Dual core phone !! probably my next from ny 1 of those !!! :-D
well, i will probably get next Nexus phone ( if it's quadcore ) or Samsung galaxy 3
Presume Iphone 5 (4s), my contract with t-mobile ends in December, so I assume i'll be offered iphone
Already replaced mine with a sensation, thnx to SE for their broken Yang connectors. My usb broke 5 times till now
VIPER
I love Galaxy S2
IMO i'm not going to change the x10 until it dies. it provides me all the functionality i need from a phone (mind that, phone) for now. it has it's role to play, and it has delivered its purpose.
i'm going to get a tegra 3 tablet be it android/windows 8 for other demanding tasks and portable gaming. i can get all my connectivity from the phone, saving me the need for a 3G enabled tablet. saves a lot.
Samsung Galaxy S II, LG Optimus 3d.
Or just the SE Xperia X10, it is fabulous and lovely regardless of SE ****.
Samsung Galaxy S II but still loving Wolf's ROM so yeah gonna take a while before I change
he said a cheaper phone... the last time i checked it, the galaxy s 2 was the most expensive one...
The cheapest smartphone plan here in Canada is $50/month =(. Looks like imma be stuck with my X10 for a while.
Probably a Google phone so I would always get updates or the xperia arc of course. No one makes phones like Sony with all the social entertainment

I'd say dual-core is the bare minimum to settle for these days. Dual-core phones are still the minority, but they really are the way of the future, and it's immediately noticeable on system performance when you start having multiple things going at once.

As great as XDA is (it's been absolutely the saving grace for the X10), I'd say company history of timely updates is very important. That knocks anything from SE out for the running for me (their promises with their newer phones are good, but I'd take the wait-and-see approach before giving considering them after the mess they made of updating the X10).

Not sure what qualifies as affordable in Panama, but by your requirements you couldn't even buy a new X10 here in Canada for a "affordable" price without signing a new contract (it's $499.99 to buy one outright).
With all that said, I just got the HTC EVO 3D on Monday. It satisfies all my requirements - dual-core, full multi-touch, ample (1GB) RAM, Gingerbread. Only cost $149.99, but that was with a 3 years contract renewal.
well i already have the HTC HD2, which runs android flawlessly. The only thing is it doesn't look/feel as nice as the X10.
If the xperia DUO appears to be real i am concidering it, i always loved the stability in SE software, even if updates takes a little longer some times and i really like the camera quality of the X10 and Arc.

samsung galaxy s2 by far...
nothing else at the moment can compare

after galaxy note you will buy any Samsung mobile phone?

after galaxy note you will buy any Samsung mobile phone?
Seeing how the note is my third Sammy, probably. Not.a fan of Samsung's plastic choices but hardware wise, I like them.
depends on whats available at the time
My last Samsung here. The updates are so slow. It is like running Gingerbread back from the 1920s. There is no excitement with my device. I know some of you are iPhone haters but at least they can update and release new features in one day. Google need to smack Samsung down a little.
Yes I will - Note II / Note Plus
Samsung has always managed to appeal to my design sense and build pretty neat hardware into their phones. I've had a D900, U600, (LG KU990 in between here) Omnia II, SGS and now the Note. The D900 was a fantastic looking, robust little phone which I still have, and the U600 was pretty much the same but with a redesign and a spec bump so I had that as well. Omnia II was my first taste of smartphones and I loved it. Once Android took off in a big way, I hopped on and haven't been disappointed since.
The Note is great. Beautiful screen, massive battery and runs like butter. The new HTC OneX looks cool and comes pretty close to ticking all my boxes but the S-Pen was the clincher. I scribble faster than I can type and I have a screen of S-Memos to remind me about everything from shopping lists to memos to breathing in and out.
The delays on ICS have been a downer but GB still runs great and as a device, still goes on well. Samsung is making up for it by giving us a premium suite of features which weren't even on the radar when I bought the device so I'm not going to complain. So... Note 2? Yes please.

Hehe, and most things apples patches do is stop jailbreak..
Not to big things in the small ones they send out, and 4s still have crappy battery even if they say they working on it..
Not a iPhone hater here tho, gf have one and even my daughter as they are very simple and child friendly..

Samsung is great compared to Dell. The Note has only been out 5-6 months. Took Dell over a year to update the Streak5 from 1.5 to 1.6 (Froyo). I don't think there has been a GB update for Dell Streak5. If Sammy is faster than a year, they're doing great! Which other Android manufacturer updates more quickly?
Besides, GB is working quite well IMHO. And the Note is well made and everything seems to work! I'm in for the next round.

Of course this is your personal opinion and it´s absolutely okay to think like this...but people have to face the fact, that ICS isn´t THE invention of the century, it is more like a small update that makes it possible to install the apex launcher (and some small more stuff ). And beside this, I do not know any manufacturer that provides faster updates to their users (ignoring apple for a moment).
The Note as well as the S2 are two MONSTERS of devices! An incredible camera, snappy/fast/smooth, resistant and even with GB they are still the headliners on the market. Ignoring some apps, there´s nothing to miss atm, it is more about nerdy minds to always be on the newest trip. And: We bought a GB device, so they don´t owe us anything.
BTW: Just check the S2 user com...e.g. the quality of the cam got worse with ICS...and as a matter of fact I do not know ANY smartphone with ICS that beats the S2/Note cam quality atm. I want a device that is WORKING and that delivers some functions which I can really USE within the day. And that´s exactely what samsung delivers imao...
So in my case: Yes, i will stay with samsung...
after my current note, next one will be maybe galaxy s3, if it wont give me satisfaction, will be waiting for note 2 : )
Samsung are making good handsets lately, but I have learnt one important lesson here with my first Samsung Phone ever:Get your bread direct from the Bakery !!.
Meaning,it is always a wise decision to get your phone from a dedicated manufavturer, not from some company who beeing busy in making washing machines,TVs cameras etc..have no time left to support certain devices.
last three devices are all samsung. I have htc work phone which i hate.
I want a phone that works and will last long enough for me to sell on fleabay. I couldnt care less regarding the operating system i.e GB and ics, aint the end of the world at all,
Take a look at Asus and the transformer, they update faster than anyone great huh, hmmm shame about the hardware. As they say you can polish a turd but its still a turd.
Give me solid hardware at a good price, and thats what samsung nail every time
Bring on note2... Can't wait til October... Bring it...

And whats wrong with HD2,I have been using it for the last 3 years now and is still working like a Swiss watch,I have flashed at different times many OSs on it,just changed back to WM from Miui's ICS,sorry if I offend anyone here but being a 78 years old veteran I bear a special affection at my heart for the WM.
Damn,my wife's Galaxy Tab 10.1 3G is still on Honeycomb 3,1 while my son's have been updated to 3,2 months ago!! and when side by side you can easily observe how inferior the former is in comparison.
I had a couple of Htc smartphones, then an S2, and now the Note. Hated the Htc's, loved the S2, and like the Note even more. So my next phone will probably be the Note 2, unless somebody comes up with something like the Note but better.

Meh...maybe...
The thing is, the Note is a beautiful phone and i would have bought it no matter what company made it. This is my first sammy phone and it could be the first of many or the last one. As long as the community on xda is strong and the phone itself is amazing i couldn't care less about the company. I have to say though, Samsung has come pretty dam far in the last few years, its unbelievable.
For me, it really depends on how Samsung handles this whole broken-kernels-that-destroy-eMMC fiasco.
If Samsung remains silent on the issue, the Note will likely be my last Samsung device. If another broken kernel manages to get through testing and is officially released (see the SHW-M250S/K/L sources), the Note is guaranteed to be my last Samsung device.
While I don't like their hardware design, nor do I like their historical track record, Sony's recent history of developer support has been highly commendable, and if Samsung keeps blowing it with regards to their total noncooperation with developers, I'll be making the jump with my next device.
Yes, and to be more specific, i will wait for Note 2. I was a HTC fan but, lately, it did not impress me. HTC ONE x , because it uses tegra 3, it is a flop, in my opinion, inefficent and power hungry CPU, no were near Exinox refinament. Samsung offers something witch is crucial for me.. good low light video camera (no ghosting) and USB OTG.
Samsung make good phones overall. Nobody makes a perfect device. Just levels of tolerances that one accepts. I have had 2 other Samsung phones and they were excellent, really excellent. Tbh whilst I want ICS I couldn't care that much since ginger bread is stable. And I prefer stable over everything else.
I probably won't be getting another phone until my Note dies - I love it that much. If Sammy are still top of the heap by then I will probably go the Sammy route again.
I also don't really understand the whole 'Samsung lied to us stuff'. I've struggled to find anything from Samsung that said they'd deliver ICS on the Note by the end of Q1 2012, everything I've found is hearsay or relating to Samsung devices generally (i.e. We'll start rolling out ICS updates in Q1.)
Well they haven't lied. The SGS2, the phone with the largest user-base was updated first... And the phone with all the extra complications of a screen approx four times the size and with a stylus, etc has been delayed. Not a surprise to me - only to those who bought a device with one OS version thinking it would have another IMMEDIATELY!
Its not even like ICS is much better... I flashed ICS Stunner and within a week I was back on stock GB. ICS offers a few good touches (bookmark sync, slightly better UI performance, data usage limits, face unlock (which p***ed me off mo end), etc) but basically its still Android and we've already got that.

The SGS3 is the best phone I've ever owned!

I started using Android phones when I got the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 a few years ago and I fell in love with Android straight away. Since then I have owned nothing but Android phones.
I got my Samsung Galaxy S3 two months ago and have been nothing but happy with it. The camera is just fantastic, I can take perfect photos in all lighting conditions, and although other people don't like the audio quality in recorded videos, I think it's brilliant.
The speaker is very loud, one thing I hated about all Android phones I owned was that the speaker was very quiet.
Every Android phone I owned had a very short battery life so I always had a spare battery just in case I needed it. With the SGS3 I don't need a spare battery, the battery lasts me long enough to last through the whole day with a lot left and I'm someone who uses his phone nearly all day.
I could go on and in about how good this phone is, but I'll let you see for yourself
The only thing I could fault is the fact that it takes a while to come out of sleep but I guess that's something that cannot be solved.

That's great son! I also like how you made a new thread about it! I'm gonna thank you now.
Great !!
Good for know...
but wait...I already knew it..

Is this no longer XDA DEVELOPERS forum ????

Hey i agree with you OP, best phone ever without a doubt. Yesterday alone, many people at my job decided to buy an S3. My boss offered me 500$ cash to buy mine but of course i declined. Those people are big iphone users too. Samsung did a great job at marketing this phone, this is the reason why so many people are aware of the S3. I had discussions with my coworkers yesterday and they said " honestly this is the first phone that beat the iphone..." of course it isnt true but its all good. They like the fact that it doesnt lag and they love the screen. Im telling you with the S3, samsung has gained a lot of momentun and people are paying attention. From now on every release of a galaxy s phone is gonna be bigger and very soon ( maybe next year) its gonna reach iphone status as far as popularity, its already very popular now.

so this is just a HOaX.

Gundam wing it! where's my version ICS version 4.0.4!!!!!!!
:victory:
Second best phone i've ever had.
THE best was the Nokia 8310.
Before I had the S3 I'd been using iOS since first iPhone.
I've never met anybody with as much Mac computers and accessories as me for personal use.
That said I can't see myself going back to an iPhone in the foreseeable future. That is how great the S3 is.
Means little to those reading it, but if you knew me you'd know that says a lot.
This phone is awesome as you already knew.
Congratulations, but you could have used one of the innumerable other threads rather than making a new one.

Just tried gnote2

Hi all,
Just been in to my local car phone warehouse, they had stock in and let me play with the display model..
Super smooth and v responsive but I have a few things to ask..
1. Does anyone. Know if this phone is EE 4g ready? I find it unbelievable that a phone is on sale without info on this!!
2. Do people think the addition cost of the contract is worth it over the gs3 which currently has some impressive deals?
Any help is appreciated as I am planning on upgrading today to either of these... Or if anyone can convince me to wait till wp8 is released I'm willing to listen!!
Thanks
There both good phone in there own right its down to persanal preference. Size etc note 2 is better specs with pen. .if u wear skinny jeans its a nono
It's not 4g ready, and personally I prefer this phone over the S3. I have recently bought my wife the S3, it's a great phone, but the screen is too small for me. Plus note 2 has a stylus and the S3 doesn't.

Got released in swedish stores today I just got one without even trying the display model out lol. Super happy

I'm waiting on the store manager to see what he can do for me in terms of tarriff then I'll go finalise with him later today...
A little disappointed that it's not LTE ready for the uk I guess that means they will release a new version in a few weeks/month...
My other half has an s3 it's a great phone and realistically gn2 is only better for browsing and video use everything else is pretty much the same... I can't see know the pen will be of any use in say a months time when the novelty wears off...
And also there is chat on other threads about some versions not having all the features in the advert videos... Such as multi screen, Samsung are properly rubbish at launches this kind of stuff makes them look so amateur they have an awesome product line why not work on marketing and getting the little details right.?
Yep, Samsung are pathetic at product launches.
good

great:good:
So went and got one anyway...
Handset is good, decent enough size to fit in the pocket, super responsive and the pen feels great, the extras they have added in for the are very useful also..
Build quality is usual Samsung, feels cheapish but still very sturdy and iv not had any real ability issues with either my sgs or sgs2 so assume this to be the same.
So there's no multi view in my rom which is ALIE so a little disappointed but I'm sure it will be easy to resolve once more people have the handset..
Doesn't seem to have the live recording feature either which I thought would be useful
Browser is very fast and all apps load pretty much instantly, but to be honest speed etc is the same as the s3 it's only better due to the extra included features...
