OTA updating a rooted nexus 7

Hi, I am new to the android scene and have a few questions.
Just wondering about the procedure for updating a rooted device, specifically the nexus 7. After I receive my nexus 7, I am planning on unlocking the bootloader, flashing CWM, and then rooting the device. I am not planning on using any custom roms. I am just going to be using stock JB.
If in the future I want to do an OTA update, what is the procedure for this?
From my understanding, it seems this is the procedure for doing an OTA update for rooted nexus 7:
1. unroot the device? (how do you unroot the device?). is this necessary?
2. use cwm to flash the stock recovery, because you won't be able to get the OTA with a custom recovery such as CWM. Is that correct?(also, where do you get the stock recovery??)
3. apply the OTA update. root will be gone.
4. flash CWM and re-root the device
And once I have succesfully OTA updated the nexus 7, re-flashed CWM, and re-rooted back the device, will I have to start from scratch (lose all data, settings, apps, etc?). I know unlocking the bootloader will wipe the device, but will the OTA update process require me to start over?
If I am missing any steps or have some things mixed up, please let me know. Also, if I were to use an OTA root keeper, what would the procedure be like or how would it change the procedure I listed above?

Haven't got my Nexus 7 yet but it looks pretty simple according to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764794
Basically just need to have OTA RootKeeper installed beforehand, then disable signature verification in CWM and patch the OTA update. Then OTA Rootkeeper can restore root.

Rooted Nexus 4 cant update to 4.4 Kitkat

Hi,
i have a rooted nexus 4 with TWRP installed.
I got an OTA update on the phone which says TAP to Install Android 4.4, when i click that , it restarts the phone into TWRP and thats it....no update.
when i reboot y phone back to normal, its still on 4.3.
I want to install 4.4.2 without loosing my data. Is it possible, else i will have to install the 4.4.2 via TWRP , but install everything all over again, which i dont want to do.
i just want to install the OTA update.

Just flash the stock rom there's a few floating around here and you won't need to wipe data

OTA updates require a stock recovery and a stock rom.

Rooted G2, still received OTA update

I have rooted my G2(D802) in stock rom.
Will I still receive Official OTA update?

1. you will, but the device will refuse to install it because it's rooted
2. you will, the device will install it and your phone will only root to recovery (if you have custom recovery)
those are the only scenarios I know of.

Yes the update can sill show up and after ignoring it a couple of times it will force itself to install and either a)if you have custom recovery you will bootloop and if you were using twrp there is a way to remove update or you will need to go Back to stock, b)if you have modified system, installed xposed or removed bloat it will refuse to install because those are things that can only be done with root and so will give message won't update because it's suspected of rooting and there are ways to make it so that it won't update but I don't remember

Nexus 4 stuck need root and recovery

Hi, recently I updated my rooted nexus 4 to 4.4.4 jellybean, which then unrooted it. I still have SuperSU installed, but once I try to run any root apps, it says I am not rooted. Looking around, I need to reroot the device, but my custom recovery TWRP has been uninstalled. I tried to install twrp with GooManager but it wouldn't download. The best option seems to be to reroot the device, but I cannot make a nan droid backup as no recovery installed. I have one but its fairly old, and I will lose a lot of data. What I need is a way to install custom recovery but I'm not rooted :/

You know this is the nexus 10 forum right?
What you need to do is flash a recovery via fastboot and then reroot.

[Q] 5.1 update - N10 rooted - OTA or manual install

I have a rooted N10, but not running any custom ROM. Have Lollipop 5.0 installed and just got the notice for the 5.1 upgrade. I'm somewhat of a noob to Android, but learning alot. Wondering if doing the OTA would be better than manually installing the upgrade. I'm gonna backup using TWRP no matter what. I want the simplest, most effective way to get the update. Thanks.

You'll likely loose root by applying the OTA, but that maybe the easiest way to upgrade assuming you've not altered or removed any apps from /system/app directory as the OTA does a check before installing. You may also need to re-apply recovery but I doubt it. Assuming you are using TWRP you can use that to gain root again. 5.1.1 has worked flawlessly for me for the last week or so.

Thanks, I wasnt sure if the OTA would install since it was rooted, but if I lose root, I can always root again. I've not removed any apps from system/app. I'll make sure I backup and if i need to recover, I can figure that out.

The OTA threw an error on my rooted N10 and wouldn't install. Stock recovery. I ended-up installing the 5.1.1 factory image in "no-wipe" mode, and everything was successful.
