I am running the latest nightly build of cm 10.1 on my nexus 10 and it seems like the speakers are quiter than they should be (had this problem with all nightly builds I've tried). The volume was much louder on the stock build before I switched to CM. Also the dsp manager doesn't do anything.
For example, I can cut or boost the EQ under speaker or headphones and it does nothing at all on either output. (and yes I have the enable EQ box checked).
The dsp manager works perfectly on my Galaxy SIII running cm 10.1 as well so I know how it should work, and it's very useful for me.
Anyone else having this problem, and is there a fix?
Keep in mind they are "nightlies" so you can't expect it to be perfect.
However, you can try the Acid Audio Engine mod for CM 10 found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36495457&postcount=462

Hi.
After having major problems with Google Play Services zapping my battery (bloody Google!) and not being able to pin it down to an app I decided to wipe my phone and put the latest CM11 weekly on (I was running a previous weekly).
After installing most of my apps again from the Play Store, Voodoo Sound appears to be gone. Well not appears its definitely gone. All of Supercurio's stuffs gone. This is the main reason I still have my Nexus S because of the sound quality with this app.
This is a major pain. Does anyone know why its not there and if I can get it somewhere else. I only want the free version.
I tweeted SuperCurio but I am still waiting for a reply.
Cheers.
If you use CM 11 you don't really need it, you can find the same settings in the DSP Manager
Really? I have been using Voodoo Sound with CM11 since the New Year and I am sure it makes a difference still. I never knew about the extra settings for the WM8994 DAC in DSP manager.
Do you need to have DSP manager running to hear the benefits?
Thanks.

I don't know... you can try... however in the DSP Manager app you have about the same settings you had in Voodoo Sound. You need the stock CM 11 kernel or a stock-like CM kernel like Guru.
Well I tried just the using DSP manager in CM and I think it sounds better! It seems to be permanently enabled in CM by default. If you install Voodoo Sound the WM8994 page within DSP Manager disappears. so it must disable it possibly.
I tried some FLACS today at work. Sound quality was wonderful. It just a shame the Nexus S does not have a sd slot. I have had a mess around with the OTG guide and Y-cable but no dice - I could not get it to mount. Maybe my kernel was not compatible.
I tried it with best quality AAC files ripped from EAC Secure Flac files and the SQ was equally amazing. I am going to try and get an Galaxy S and put CM on it. I can then put all my AAC ripped files on an SD card. I just think in the higher frequencies AAC definitely has a edge over MP3. Lab test also point to 320 AAC as being significantly quieter overall than MP3 in the noise floor department.

Why don't you try Viper4Android , it will gives you better sound output.:good:
Here, try this..
Thanks.
So is it CM11+ that voodoo sound is integrated into the ROM?
Cheers.
Can anyone confirm cm12 source supporting voodoo sound?
With the old cyanogenmod kitkat version, and the dsp program back then I used to have very deep and powerful bass enhancement, it was really nice.
But since the new lollipop version, the bass are really bad, it just makes the sound muffled and not powerful.
I tried Dolby atmos or the official cyanogenOS dsp program, not it still doesn't work like it used to do.
Do you know any way to get back a good bass enchancer?
Edit: actually I think I had the mod Beats+xlouder installed over cyanogenmod. Is there any version of this mod for lollipop?
Personally I use & recommend Viper4Android. Very customizable to suit your sound preferences and you can set up different profiles for each output type (phone speaker, headphones, external speakers, etc.).
So the problem is that no matter what custom ROM I use the mic volume is incredibly low. Talking on the phone I cannot be heard at all, if I put it on loudspeaker I can be heard faintly. Same problem for any app that uses the microphone, like sound recorder, recording a video, it barely picks up any sound.
But what's strange is that everything works perfectly on on Stock. I've installed custom ROMs on this before and last used cm10 before I upgraded way back. But now the problem also exists on that CM10 ROM. Any ideas how to fix it?
Additionally I've tried disabling the google now search listening (which fixed the same problem on my OPO) but does not work here. I've tried the following ROMs: CM10, CM11, CM12 all official nightlies and Crdroid 5.1.1.
Very frustrating as otherwise CM12 works perfectly and I intend to give this phone to someone!
So testing it further I found out that it works fine using google now and search. So either the internal microphone is disabled or maybe noise cancelling is messed up.
I have the Sony MDR-XB950N1 and they sound awesome on an iphone and ipad. But they sound like crap on my android device. I've tried both NucleaROM 7.2.1 and Bliss 6.4, and the sound is too low on both ROMs. Kernel Auditor's sound setting doesn't help at all. I would like to stay away from Viper4Android. I don't need to enhance the sound. I need to be able to adjust the gain or amplify the sound.
I don't get android at all as this has happened to some Bluetooth headphone I've used in the past. But for a USD$300.00 pair otf over-the-ear headphones, this should not happen! It sounds like a pair of headphones you buy at your local 7-eleven. Maybe I should go back to the official firmware?
Interestingly.. i installed CM13 6.01 (Dec 2016) and BT volume is 100x better than the ROMs I mentioned above. This is without the kernel auditor sound mod. I DON'T GET IT.. But at least my earlobes, eardrums, and headphone are vibrating at max volume again. I still would like a solution for Nougat ROM.

You can have a look at here https://forum.xda-developers.com/zuk-z1/themes-apps/apps-to-gain-microphone-volume-t3450390 it's not only for microphone problems
Yea enabling volume level works great with my daily driver, NulceaROM 7.1.x. Thanks for the heads up! Its on par with CM13 and iDevices. I'm not convinced that this issue only happens to our device. I used to have a MI phone and BT volume with nougat was abysmal also.
Hi, I tried the kernel 3.4 on my nexus 7, but after I installed it my speaker starts to play audio really bad, now is noisy ,scratchy and pretty low. So I tought was rom/kernel related, and back to 3.0 kernel, but no way to get it working good again. So I changed the speaker with a new one, and the audio isn't anymore scratchy, but is really low when compared to his previous stage, I cannot use in a room with peaple simply talking for example, forcing me to use a bluetooth speaker, or headphone. What happened to my nexus 7? I changed many roms, but doesn't seem to be fixable by sw, what can I do? now I'm on slimkat + parrot mod, which works flawlessy.
thank you
