[Q] Aosp camera auto flash/auto focus - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In low light or dark conditions, the auto flash doesn't seem to work. I'm a xylon ROM user but I've also noticed it on other ROMs. If I tap the screen, the manual focus will turn the flash on and I can take a picture w/ flash, but for only that one time. Also, I've flashed official gapps for the official camera, and the auto flash works fine by itself in low light/dark conditions when taking pictures. Has anyone else observed this? Is there a way to get auto flash working correctly on aosp camera? I really would like to be able to use the power button shutter option from aosp but the broken auto flash thing bugs me.

[Q] Lower flash brightness

Is there any way to lower how bright the flash is when taking a picture? Are there any settings within the stock camera app or is there an aftermarket camera that does this? Using filters to darken the picture works ok but it sucks seeing good pictures ruined by how bright they ended up. Really disappointed with the camera on the Nexus 4 especially coming from the HTC Amaze and even my wife's SG2 does a better job.
Turn down the exposure to -1?

That did help and even went as low as -2. Thanks

Nexus 4 camera app randomly fails.

My stock camera randomly stops working, only a reboot will fix. 3rd party apps work fine. The camera shutter won't engage, usually happens when a pretty girl is leaning towards me.
I'm trying to send a debug log.

I had this happen last night. Had a group picture moment and the phone flash but didn't take a picture. Had to reboot it to get the camera to work but by then the moment passed.
The Stock ROM despite being AOSP it's missing things CM10 has. Minor thing that just makes want to flash CM10.
Just FYI if you press the screen to focus first then take the problem doesn't occur

What radio are you using? I know .27 messes up the autofocus, but the manual focus still works...

For me turning off the night stabilisation mode & setting auto flash made it better in low light places. Can't say I've had any issues with daylight photos.

maybe different setting
and maybe problem with ur variant and will solve by an update
and also it can be hardware problem in last step IF u become sure no software problem
so
1. play with settings
2. search for other users that exactly in same firmware with u and compare photo ...
3. if u find any different (bad quality in urs) try to flash another stock rom (from another regions)
4. if nothing change take it for service to check lens
:good:

The camera has Jeckel and Hyde characteristics.Outdoor shots are superb for a smartphone but when you venture indoor or at night,it takes pretty awful photos.Smart Stabalisation brightens things up and limits noise but you lose all detail. If you crop in, faces and objects look like cartoon drawings. There is only so much you can do with a small sensor so I think the N3 needs a dedicated night mode and better software.don't hold your breath though.Samsung will fix this issue up but only when the N4 arrives with their isocell technology.
If you want decent photos at night you need to use the flash but the flash doesn't work well past 10 ft.

Camera freezes and reboot

This happens when I focus on an object with the flash enabled .after taking the picture when it again auto focuses it gives a crackling sound and freezes and soon after the phone reboots itself .
This is so frustrating. Lollipop has arrived but still this bug is living .

My wife's N4 has this exact same issue, I was able to reproduce the issue while running logcat and nothing really popped out at me. I'm going to be looking further into it.
