New XXAMB1 firmware for I8190N is 200MB bigger than previous firmwares - Galaxy S III Mini General

Hey guys!
While surfing sammobile I found this firmware released recently
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/197283199/91afb6c/I8190NXXAMB1_I8190NORSAMB1_ORS.zip.html
This one I've linked is the Slovakia unbranded version but the firmware is also available Orange branded.
However, back on topic. This firmware, once unpacked is 200 MB bigger than previous ones. Flashing it didn't result in anything new, I can see a couple of games bundled with the ROM but they can be 200 MB.
So far I haven't notice any new function but I will look into /system folder hoping that they introduced something new

What firmware version am I supposed to have?

Just bought the SGS a week ago. I reside in Norway and my operator is Telenor (if this is of any importance).
When I got it, the firmware version was (is) I900XXJF3. Seen a lot of talk about other versions, which might or might not require root to install.
Anyways, on my unrooted SGS, I get no updates in Kies (horrible application btw), so I wonder if this is how it's supposed to be, and also when the GPS-fix will be released. Will it be availible automatically from within Kies?

JF3 seems to be the default firmware most people are getting out of the box. So far there are no official firmware updates via Kies, however the website samsung-firmwares have published several newer firmwares which people are using. They do certain things like make the phone run faster/better memory management, bug fixes and some people claim to get better GPS. You can install them using a software called Odin.
From what I have gathered, there will either be some sort of intermediate firmware from Samsung in the near future, or we may not see any official firmwares until the Froyo update possibly in September.
My Galaxy comes with the firmware JF7 and I got mine from hong kong. There are news floating around says that Froyo will comes to the Galaxy S in August for the Korea market, follow by France maybe?

This firmware does not have a kernel by some reason maybe it's custom build one. There is nothing new as far as I saw.
this firmware has no kernel.sin inside.
i opened it with 7zip and compared the file size of modules with .42 Global firmware, and i suspect some modules in this firmware has been wrongly renamed (misplaced).
be careful.

Thanks. I'm downloading it now. Once it's complete i'll test it and report back.
It just keeps the old kernel and flashes the rest. I didn't find any new features. Few Chinese applications and games nothing new reverting back to old firmware. If anyone wanna try go ahead it booted fine on my device.

yes, i also tried this firmware, and get the same result with you.
in a word, it can work, but not very good.
others who want a .58 firmware can wait for other releases.

[Q] firmware update

Hello,
I wonder if there is anything different between firmware that release for each region. I got B2 firmware same as a lot of country but why India has C3.
Some country just get B2 recently but india got C3 for couples of month ago.
Anyone know what is exactly diffrent ? Is it because of hardware different example modem or because of some limitation of law in each country which might not allow samsung to include some applications.
Thanks
hey,
The company provides Firmware updates in order to patch or improve minor bugs in current firmware or to improve locale support.
other counties have eg. B2/B3 as they have a flawless running system so they dont need update.
in india there may be few errors in previous firmware, and other thing is, indian firmware contain many locales with different indian languages,
therefore to improve it, indian firmwares get updated!
Today i got an update, it's D1 now.
Indian Firmware
hmm,
the OTA firmware updates which are small (eg. from 7mb to 24mb or a bit higher) in size only contain the changed ver. of CSC branding and few USER un-noticeable changes..
KITKAT
God knows when we will have KITKAT, or not at all !!!!!
When I got the update pop up, I was hopng it was 4.4. but no. just 4.3 again.
schubeir
We probably wont get kitkat via an OTA update,
this is what "i" think...
because that update would be around size of 1 to 1.5GB in size therefore it would be released through Online servers of samsung or 'Kies' :-/
KitKat wont be coming in so small package. And yeah, it will be available through OTA only
Cos previously i had Note 2 with Android v4.1, so it had received 4.3 update through OTA only, and size was about 700 MB+.

GRA-L09C109B379 from April 2018 - why the firmware file is so small in size?

I am searching for the latest firmware for my P8. The newest one seem to be GRA-L09C109B379 from https://www.mobileheadlines.net/download-huawei-p8-firmware-files/
I currently use GRA-L09C02B405 from Vodafone. According to this page https://fordroid.com/huawei-mobile-firmware-region-code/ the C109 region code shows France, most probably Orange.
One thing bothers me. The firmware is around 10% smaller than these one that I had flashed before, they were 3.0 gigabyte in size or so, this one is 2.7 gigabyte only. Orange firmwares tend to have pretty much unnecessary apps un them, at least in Poland, so they should be larger than the rest of them or at least the sizes should be comparable, of course if my guess is right. Maybe there are some French regulations that forced Huawei to slim down the firmware (Facebook removed? Twitter?). I am really puzzled.
Is anyone who has flashed the firmware over C02 and/or C432 ones or can explain why the firmware is so small? Any thoughts?
Less bloat

Thank you very much for your explanation.
I will update the firmware of my P8 next week. Unfortunately, one cannot update it directly from Vodafone's C02B405, so I will have to downgradee firmware to European C432B39x first and update to French C109B379 next. I have tried to update it directly with no success.

Flash the update.zip with TWRP.
I installed the firmware three day ago and I have to say that it is great. Works very well. Almost no bloat from Orange (only Apps Orange - 116 kb in size and which can be easily switched off, moreover, it is not aggressive like the Vodafone bloat which pops up every reboot). Well done, Orange!
I have neither TWRP nor root in my P8. I had problems with both in B399 and I have not tried to install them since. Maybe I will try next week, however, I use Blokada.org so I feel no pressure.
Can this be flashed over C432B520 ? Strangely there is not new update for C432 and I'm stuck on security patch level from January 2018

Should be. If dload doesn't work, then try flashing the update.zip with TWRP.

Archive of Firmware Updates?

Recently got a new US Model Xperia 5 III, and updated it to A12 without realizing how many issues came with it. I tried to find an Android 11 Firmware to flash to it, but Xperifirm only gives A12, and online I could only find updates for the Europe and International models. Is there anywhere that archives the files of older firmwares to download, or will the regional roms work on a US model?
