wifi dropping with bluetooth - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a weird wifi issue. it seems that the wifi on my phone drops when I'm streaming music to my sony RDP-x200ip (great stereo by the way). It's odd because the wifi seems to drop when my phone and the stereo are paired together, however the wifi doesn't drop when the stereo is paired to my laptop. I'm a bit stumped because i thought the sony unit might cause interference, but as stated, the dropping doesn't occur on my phone's wifi when the stereo is paired to my laptop.
Any thoughts? I'm running stock android 4.2.2.

Bluetooth Streaming Audio from Pandora to Car skipping

unfortunately when i connect bluetooth to my car radio the music skips about every 15 sec. very annoying. Anyone else having the problem.
I have an iphone 3gs that doesnt skip and works great. I love the Evo but bugs are continually showing up.
Its your internet. Try updating your prl.
i did update the prl before i tried it.
still does it.
I have a bluetooth reciever for my AVR and I noticed some skipping as well. Not as frequent as you are saying but if I moved more than 10' away it would be rather bad. The Bluetooth range seems to be poor. In a car I can't imagine you having a problem. I have heard of some issues with factory bluetooth.
I had same problem till I decided to turn off my wifi.. and it started working fine.. it just doesn't have to do with Pandora, its will any Music that you stream over Bluetooth..
Just turn off your wifi and it will work fine.
Thanks
Or just place your phone somewhere else in your car. Bluetooth has very lousy range (isn't it like 10 feet in perfect conditions?), and as such moving it a foot or two somewhere else could make a world of difference.
Its definitely not the internet. I could be at home in wifi with phenominal internet it even laying it off of my SD card. If im in a vehicle or on a bus, its pretty solid and works really well. I walk out the bus and walk around either to m next bus or to work and it fails to play for more than 4 seconds without skipping. And its not like a short, nuisance of a skip. It often stays skipped for up to 3 seconds at a time. Completely unusable. Happens however i connect my phone to any a2dp device. Tried tweaking the /etc/Bluetooth/audio.conference file as suggested in a couple nexus one/s sites, but unfortunately seems to be specific to those phones. This is making me hate this phone. Every other phone I've had in the past two years does this just fine. Whyis it having such a hard time with such a simple task that others have done perfectly? Even other Roms work better but i like also better than sense anyday. Maybe its a kernel issue?. I really want this fixed. But it seems like no one is even trying to work towards a solution. Not on the surface anyway.
Did you try turning off your wifi and any other unneeded services? The only time I have had skipping over bluetooth is when I have my wifi on as well, other than that it streams smoothly through my car stero and computer over bluetooth.

This.
If that doesn't help, then if possible, you should use an aux in cable to prove it's only a bluetooth issue. If it still skips, I'd try a new rom and/or kernel. A2DP performance seems much improved in CM7 compared to Sense roms.. or at least it seems better to me.
I've had the same skipping problem with my bluetooth earphones and evo. The only slight solution that I've had was holding the phone in direct line of site with the bluetooth earphones. When I do that, it doesn't skip as much.
Streaming bluetooth audio to car stereo
Thanks Anku13, your fix works. Just installed a Clarion CZ501 bluetooth receiver in my car, experienced skipping audio every 15 - 30 seconds once my Leo connected/streaming. Killing WiFi was the trick. Love not having an AUX cable lying around in the cabin.

Does the nexus have a weak bluetooth reciever? My audio keeps skipping.

I have a Motorola S9 bluetooth headset which worked perfectly with my blackberry 8900. I'd have the phone in my pocket, go to the gym and listen to music, it would work great.
But on my Nexus one, ever since I got it in Febuary, any rom i've ever been on (enomther, cyanogen), the audio skips repeatedly if I don't keep the phone like half a foot away from the headset (which is impossible unless I strap the phone to my upper back or something). It will cut out for 1-10 seconds and then return for a second and then go out again, and then be steady for 20 seconds and then do it again, it's very random but VERY frequent..I've never been able to go a full minute without skipping.
I've also had to have my nexus one replaced at one point, and this was a problem on both models, so I don't think I just got 2 defective nexus ones in a row.
Also I have paired the S9 bluetooth with my PS3 and again with the blackberry and it works perfectly with both.
Is there any reason or does the nexus one just have a weak bluetooth reciever?
I'm using the Sony Ericsson MW600 bluetooth headset and I found that the bluetooth range is better than my laptop. Audio doesn't skip even if I am ~10 m way.
I have some Sony ones (the neckband BT ones, not sure of the model) and they only seem to skip if there is heavy EM interference, or if the battery is low and there is something in the way. This was the same with a Nokia E71 (which IMHO had the best radios on a handset I've used), so I think its a headset problem rather than a phone problem. But saying that, I primarly use this combo with the phone in the chest pocket of an ACU jacket, so it only has about 30cm to travel.
I use my Nexus with the S9, and it works great. I often leave the phone playing on my desk at work, while I got to the printer etc. No probs, until about 40 foot away...

Compared to my old iPhone i found it was a little weaker too.
I think you have a second defective unit. My first n1 had the same problem. Since the n1 share the wifi and bluetooth on the same chip, you should notice also some weakness in the wireless signal as well. At least that is what I found.
I would never get full bars on my wireless even standing next to the router. The bluetooth was worse, I couldn't keep my phone more than an arms length to get the bluetooth working.
I returned it and got a replacement
Hope this helps
Well I don't have problems with weak wifi signal. I can be pretty far from the wifi and get great signal. Also for voice calls the plantronics explorer Bluetooth headset I use works great. Its just the a2dp streaming on the s9 that are giving me problems.
Have you tried turning Wi-fi off while using the BT for streaming?
Blue tooth dropouts- sometimes fix
On my N1, both a Jawbone Icon and a Samsung headset will have fluctuating media sound frequently. The sound will vary in volume or skipping up to once a second, giving a very unpleasing experience. The distance to the phone can be one foot or 15 feet with the same results.
I finally correlated this to either turning on or connecting the headset after the media had begun playing, or coming back into range while the media was already playing.
I found that I could get clear sound by exiting the media, then restarting the media while the headset was already connected.
I have trouble also with going out of range, then returning into range, but the media connection not restoring, just the phone connection.
Solutions I found for this on the web were:
- set master=true in /system/etc/bluetooth/audio.conf (worked for me)
possibly also:
- turn off wifi
- carry bluetooth device and nexus on same side of your body
- use bluetooth only for media (not phone)

[Q] Spotty Bluetooth Performance?

I'm able to connect my Atrix to my JVC double din in car stereo system via bluetooth and it connects and pairs just fine. The problem I have is that the music "skips" or loses sound every few 20 to 30 seconds. It plays the whole music file but seems to drop out here and there. My old tilt 2 played on this same jvc beautifully using bluetooth. But the Atrix cant keep up? It happens no matter if I play music files through the stock android music player, or Power Amp player. What gives?
I also have a JVC Kw-Avx810 with bluetooth adapter installed. I have the same problem, for calls it works perfectly but for music its a bitt frustrating to hear music skipping each 30 seconds. Sometimes I am able to hear the music without skipping and that happens when I first play the music on the phone and while the music is playing on the phone I turn on bluetooth on the phone and the after 10 seconds it begins to stream the music to the Jvc Unit without any problem. I do that every time that I wanna hear music on my Jvc unit. Havent had any more issues so far.
I use it for my ford sync and at times it will do strange things that my nokia n95 never did but for the most part it works well...

I had a similar problem when I had my streak. It was because I was pairing Audio with one device and bt phone with another. If you are doing this it will cause that. I use my Sony stereo just fine, will disconnect occasionally, but quality is great.
I use my atrix with my prius, and so far so good.I haven't had disconnect issues yet.
I think it's something JVC could probably fix with a firmware update. The atrix streams just fine to both my Sony and Kenwood headunits.
I have the same problem.

The key terms: "Usable but not stable" , although it was not tested with Atrix, it is evidenced on both HTC and Motorola phones.
Great move JVC .. you've made your product useless to me and tarnished your reputation at the same time. Couldn't get your guys to write a new firmware ... Cant get me to buy another one of your products.
The same looks very like it will be true with Motorola's Andriod phones. Both JVC and Motorola will soon be wiped off my present or future ownership map. Woooo
Mine drops out/ goes silent / loses bt connection about once every 8-12 minutes when connected to my sony head unit (mex-bt5100). I turn off bt then back on, then restart my streaming radio.

I have a jvc double din unit too. I don't experience any issues with audio... however the phone is a bit garbled when connected.
Have you tried moving the bluetooth dongle to the front USB port?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
i Have a single DIN (AVX33), the bluetooth is built-in so there is no dongle.
I read quite a bit about this problem .. it is related to the phone hands free profile sending signals to the headunit in a way that the headunit cannot handle without disturbing audio. It is exasberhated by low signal strength (both bluetooth signal and GSM signal), and also by the fact some andriods will give equal transmit priority to these hands-free signals that it does streaming audio. This is why turning wifi off helps a little (reduces interference). The signals that are interfering with streaming audio are the ones about battery life, and GSM signal strength. As signal strength chagnes, the phone sends out a new value despite the headunit not needing to do anything with it. This is what interupts the audio consistently but irregularly
End result .. it can be fixed by software adjustment on the andriod (do not send updates when streaming audio .. unlikely with Atrix unless Moto gets their thumbs out of their asses), by software adjustment on the receiver (unlikely as JVC is a **** company that does not care about my woes), or by mitigating the problem as I appear to be forced to do. I do this by turning off the "phone" porition of the bluetooth. Or by starting the music and THEN connecting to bluetooth. Unacceptable to me but I have no other options.
I f**king hate how complex our electronics have become and how consumers are powerless to fix these problems DESPITE the fact some of them have a higher level understanding of what the problem actually is. (therefoer I will not be purchasing anything from JVC or Motorola ever again. They prevent me from solving problems and refuse to fix them for me.)

[Q] Bluetooth stereo headphone keep dropping

I have my creative WP300 stereo connected via Bluetooth to stream music. it appears that the bluetooth connection kept dropping every a few hours of use. I had no problem with the same headset on my Sprint GS2 (Epic 4G touch). Just curious if there is anyone experiencing similar thing? Do I have a defected device? Thanks,
I have my GS4 paired to my Kenwood DNX9960 headunit in my truck and every time I get in my truck, only the "Use for phone audio" is checked, not the "Use for media audio". I have to open up BT settings on the phone and check the media check box and it connects right away. This is so annoying, it should just connect both profiles automatically.
the media portion of auto connect is determined by the music app.... i use power amp and have no issues with it auto connecting, but with the stock player no luck.

I too have upgraded from the GS2 and I have experienced drops with Both of my New Devices (2 S4's). I have a Dual XML8150 Head Unit in my vehicle. Neither of them Auto Connect. Sometimes the music will play for the duration of my travels, However most of the time it drops the audio in a few minutes (less than a song few minutes), however the 2 devices are still communicating (meaning I can play/pause basically). I do not use it for phone calls so I can't report how it works on those. A few times yesterday it would happen almost immediately, and one headset wouldn't even play audio from the onset (although I could still communicate (Play/Pause). Once I would disconnect from Bluetooth, the audio was confirmed playing on the headset. I have not tested this problem out with my Plantronics BB903+ headphones, but will today.
So a final note to wrap it up. I'm at my 14 days. Even though Im only rooted with TWRP, I'm doing the full reset on both devices and i'm going to test it out today flat stock. In addition to the Bluetooth antenna/radio, None of the Antennas (surprise, surprise Samsung) on this phone seem to be very strong. It seems that one likes to connect to 4g more than the other. Same place, same tower ones stuck on 3g and one on 4g (according to RF signal tracker). Even a data off/on doesn't seem to force it over and im sick of seeing the "can not establish a data connection" popping up in the middle of doing anything. I can't forget to mention the Dropped calls, probably more in 2 weeks than in several years. I had an S2 since the first month it was out (Typical Lame GPS, and crazy menu key was about it) I briefly used an S3 (Asurion Claim), and the troubles I had with my S2 were gone with the wind, so I figured the S4's have to be even better....Well, any troubles today, and I'll let you know what happens at the sprint store tonight.

Bluetooth interference with V20 WiFi on, even if V20 is not using WiFi.

Bluetooth and WiFi are known to interfere with each other since they can use the same frequencies, but what I'm seeing is a bit different. When I have my V20 (H910a) WiFi turned on I get Bluetooth speaker interference even when the phone is playing locally stored music and not actually using WiFi.
If I load a page on my PC, the audio from my Bluetooth speaker stutters and distorts. If I turn the WiFi off on the phone I get no Bluetooth interference at all, no matter what my other WiFi devices are doing. This is very consistent and happens every second music is playing and there is WiFi activity by other devices.
Does anyone else have this problem, or am I looking at a one-off hardware defect? If somebody has a BT speaker could you give it a try?
