What have you dunked your Z in? - Xperia Z General

I know it's waterproof, but what about salt water? or other liquids? What have you tried to put your XZ through?
My friends wanted to test it out by dunking it into a pint of beer, but I wasn't sure.
Thoughts?

lol, beer is ok if you wash the phone in clean water after.
I don't think salt water is a good idea tho. Sony say not to do that one.
P.

Lets not do this, Thanks.

Actually I think that salty seawater is not a good idea, water resistant or not..
Yup, that's pretty stupid, considering the corrosive nature of saltwater.
I have a waterproof camera, and on the user manual says after sea dunk, you must wash it with normal water to remove the salts.
The camera is still working.
I guess the same concept applys here!
Ok i just watched your water, and unlike others, im not going to criticize you for possible corroding your device. But i am going to let you know that Dubai is not known for have the cleanest water, especially that close to the city.

Yes, the water is not very clear, especially inside the Palm as the sea currents do not wash it out that quickly. All good for my immune system of course!
The device is fine. Of course I rinsed it soon after in clean water. However I doubt the corrosive affect of salt water will make much difference on the plastic and glass exterior!
Will be trying again when I'm back there in a couple of weeks. I clearly need to practice my cameraman skills. I wonder how deep it can really go?.......
Haven't dunked mine in the sea yet, but I use it in the bathtub all the time with no issues!

Does having a case on the S5 impede the water-dust resistance?

As the title states. Do I need a water/dust resistant case, or should I be good to go if I drop it in water with a regular case. Just for more info, I have this case and this case.

I do not own an S5, but from what I've seen in YouTube, it will be just fine underwater without a case. So you could use any case you want and it'll still work underwater.

the only way i see it being an issue, is if the case you have it tightly fitting to the point where when you take it off it pulls at the battery door opening it slightly, many cases do this, AND if you try to take the case off soon after getting the phone wet and there is water inbetween the case and phone, it could in theory breach the gasket... even that seems like a long shot, because the ammount of water that would get trapped between the case and phone would be minimal
again this is just theory, not a gaurentee
i got my phone wet with a case on, but the case was a loser fitting ruber one
btw it is not problem free when it gets wet, be warned
the headphone jack does NOT play well with water
I've got the riken case, like the Spigen case. I just filled up a pot of water, played a youtube and let it sit in the water for 30 minutes while playing
worked just fine.
Just gotta make sure the back of the phone is secured properly. thats the only thing with having a case, you don't really know .

You got some big cajones! I don't think I could ever intentionally put it in water.

Make sure the USB door close. You don't have to get a water resistant case.
It is a water resistant phone.
But if you distrust the phone, a water resistant case will set your mind at rest.
If you want to keep long time under the water, you can get a waterproof case.
Just took my S5 out of the swimming pool. Also got a nice underwater selfies Image quality is pretty good!
Oh, and forgot to mention, it was naked, no case at all. I don't need you need a case for that.

Wear watches beach safe?

So I'm going to the beach soon and I've been wanting to pick one of these watches up past couple weeks. Still waiting for best buy to get them. Now I know these watches are NOT waterproof so I will not be bring it into the water, but as far just sitting on the beach. I know they're water resistant so a little splash of water shouldn't be harmful. But what about salt water and sand itself? Can these watches sustain these elements? thanks

thanks for link and suggestion. yeah I figured sand would definitely risk scratching it, but I'd be sure make sure my hands were clean when using. I really just wanted to be able to change music and get all my email and music without taking my phone out. Not getting just for the beach, but kinda my excuse to go ahead and get one now Been wanting one of these watches for awhile. Just wanted to make sure that if sand or salt water did get it on it, it'd be okay internally. I'm guessing rinsing it off with clean water would be smart if salt water does get on it?

Get a screen protector and you should be good to go, just be extra careful!

For those of you who enjoy showering with your device... It can swim! (Sorta)

What I'm curious about is... what would happen if he dropped that sucker in a bag of rice and let it dry for a while?

I feel ashamed of myself believing that Apple builds superior products.
"You can see the charger is slightly... burned? It came right out of the charger, so I'm not sure how that happened?"

Yeah I could have understood using the flat side of the hammer and measuring how much force it would take to break the screen, but using the back? Ehhh... Kinda hurt a little to see that poor device get beaten. You know... beaten without scientific purpose
Do I understand this correctly. Some one is placing a non water resistant phone IN WATER.
WHY?
Who ARE these people, where do they get these absurd ideas from? Do you think we could "water test" him in 3M of water for an hour, any guesses what the outcome would be. Much more money than intellect. What a waste of a very VERY good mobile and a human body

The revenue he generates from those videos MORE than pays for the cost of the phone.
He obviously knows what's going to happen but it gets clicks and views and thus money.
Yea probably the best thing to do after drowning it is put in on a charger.....

Most def comprimised Now I have seen several people take and redneck it and take a dab of automotive black silicone and cover it up smooth it and and let it cure for 12 to 24 can restore some of the water resistance but wouldnt risk in a pool or swimming

There is no videos. You take a tube of black mechanics silicone. Smugde a good drop on your finger and rub on the cracks. It dont look the best. Its not permanant but will restore some of the water resistance to the device. If you keep it in a case you will never see it. It will eventually peel off.
Try Sugru. It won't peel off like silicone.
