Hi there, on my second vibrant. I'm having some issues with this one and I need help determining if they are hardware related.
I'm running 3 homescreens with:
Beautiful widgets
Pure messenger widget
Switch pro
Pandora
I'm also running launcher pro.
I have some major lag problems when launching apps. It takes a minute or so to open most apps, plus I get a lot of black screens. I've factory reset the phone twice and the issues go away for a while on stock settings but the phone starts to lag a bit as I load apps.
Any ideas?
I might just return it....even though the phone runs ok on stock settings, might have a hard time returning it.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
most likely software.. and related to one of the apps you have dl'd. as you said in your post, the phone works fine stock and doesnt start to act up until you load apps.
i would suggest you just install your apps one by one and have a small testing phase between each one. then when it starts lagging you will know what app to avoid.
Wait did this happen on both phones. Even if not, still sounds like something you've done to the phone. I would root and run autostarts to prevent certain items from opening. It's all in the sticky if you want to try.
Its both, look into the lag fix. Launcherpro + all widgets are running off the internal sd along with the appdata (thats moved in the lag fix) and with the poor performing I/O of the internal sd, it lags. The stock launcher + samsung apps is built into the system dir (internal nand) so doesn't lag as bad.
No, I returned the first phone because the homekey wasn't working.
Once the apps do manage to load, I notice that there isn't anything I can do to slow the phone down. Certainly seems more and more like a software bug...Maybe Launcher Pro isn't playing nice (even though I've reinstalled it a few times, and after factory reset). That or the Pure Messenger widget (scrollable) is what's screwing everything up. It worked fine on my Mytouch 3gs though...We'll see.
I'll add apps one by one until I find the culprit.
OK, thus far installed ADW instead of Launcher Pro...
Everything seems to work really well thus far. ADW seems to handle scrollable pure messenger widget much better than Launcher Pro. I think that was the source of my incredible lag.
Still testing, but has anyone else had issues with the scrollable pure messenger widget and Launcher Pro?
Hi all,
I guess ever since getting the Nexus 7 when it came out, I've been trying to reduce lag. It has become as sort of project of mine. The last year, I have gone over lots of ROMs, kernels, tweaking tools, and tried lots of good (and very much bad) stuff.
So far, I've come quite far and I am quite happy with the way my Nexus 7 runs. The Nexus runs great in all other apps, really. Browsing is smooth and not comparable in any way to what I started out with. I have some Danish, poorly designed sites that are quite heavy, and I get no lag.
Apart from one thing - i get BAD lag when scrolling down a list which has images in it. I also get minor lag at other lists, but images makes it horrible. My two best examples are the play store (almost unusable) and gReader (slightly better with images off in lists, but hey, shouldn't have to be like that).
I've been googling loads and it seems very few people have the same problem? I've had this problem with all kinds of ROMs, kernels, tweaks, whatever really. I can have a crap setup with a million services running and a google now process gone haywire with cpu at 75 degrees celsius, yet the stutter is just the same in play store and greader (e.g.).
My current setup (but note, I've tried many with same result):
- Completely fresh install of recent CM10.1 nightly
- franco kernel (1.7GHz CPU, 700MHz GPU, 512Kb read-ahead, interactive, deadline, fsync off, gpu scaling off, wifi performance streaming)
- Almost all services disabled, including most of google's, meaning I have greenify running, a few under google services and android keyboard
- Sync is currently off
- Currents is not installed
- I've got fstrim installed and run that recently on all partitions
- I've got 9GB of 13-ish free at the moment
- Location sharing off
- Accessibility off
- No widgets, completely empty homescreen (I use Apex, not locked in memory)
I've been testing on a 100/100Mbit line fiber and 60/15Mbit LTE and identical experience.
I DO have Xposed installed atm, but after this fresh install (and many other similar times), I go straight to play store on a fresh install before installing anything. Same problem always there.
I had been using Trinity kernel for quite some time, at the time I adjusted read-ahead a lot, but in this situation a standard read-ahead actually means less lag for me. I guess it means more, small lags, actually, less noticeable.
I've been testing Seeder and similar apps recently, but get no particular difference with this problem.
When using the older version of Google Play, it is much more smooth, yet in the lists with apps it still stutters. Like 2-3 stutters a second, at times it hangs for a whole second, when scrolling down. It stutters each time and image is placed.
My experience: It seems the act of scrolling AND loading images doesn't work well in parallel.
I really hope someone can help me understand the problem, or, if so lucky, help me eradicate (or at least) reduce it.
Mkay, so it seems I am in a situation, where lagfix etc. doesn't alleviate the problem with very low random write speeds. I have done Forever Gone and various other things, but it just doesn't help. So, after googling a lot again, with inconclusive results:
What the feck is the conclusion on those low read speeds? I have plenty of space free...

The Play Store has always stuttered horribly when scrolling, as does Play Music. From my own observations, this is an issue with the implementation of rendering in these applications, rather than a lack of system performance. It is not isolated to the Nexus 7 either; it occurs within these applications on every Android device.
When you load the Play Store (or Play Music with album art) and begin to scroll, images are loaded when they come into view and unloaded once you move past them. I would surmise that the behaviour is intended to conserve RAM on less capable devices, however the consequence appears to be that this constant loading and unloading of images while scrolling results in stuttering. I have tested this hypothesis by comparing image-based applications (such as HTC Music) which do not implement the aforementioned function against those that do. The result is always that the former are completely smooth, while latter stutter incessantly.
Now that most new Android devices are shipping with 2GB of RAM, I do hope that Google will either remove this function or disable it on current devices (based on the brand/model the device identifies as).
A genuine question - we get 4.4.2 so whats so great ?
Looking at wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_version_history#Android_4.1_Jelly_Bean_.28API_level_16.29 I'm seeing some optimisation, camera UI and multi-user profiles, sure also less susceptible to viruses but did I miss anything major ? Am I wrong to think that the biggest change might be whatever Samsung add on the top ?
Here's a list of what changed on the note 2 with 4.3 now our device is very similar to the note 2 and there will be even more features/fixes added with 4.4.2.
- GALAXY GEAR Support
- TRIM Support (Makes the device much faster)
- Samsung KNOX
- Samsung Wallet (Pre-loaded)
- ANT+ Support
- Improved TouchWiz Launcher (Much less launcher redraws and less lag)
- Better RAM management
- Core UI elements updated to the ones on the Galaxy S4 (Galaxy S4′s theme all over)
- New Samsung Keyboard
- GPU drivers have been updated (Higher GPU benchmark scores)
- New Lockscreen: Multiple Widgets, improved ripple effect than Android 4.1.2, ability to change clock size and set a personal message
- New screen modes (From S4): Adapt Display and Professional Photo
- Daydream
- Driving mode
- Actionable notifications
- Move-to-SD-card feature
- New Camera mode : Sound and Shot
- New Additions in Notification Centre
- Completely revamped Settings UI (Tabbed interface – Exactly like the Galaxy S4)
- Implementation of Voice controls (Let’s you control various parts of the phone using voice commands – Galaxy S4 feature)
- New Samsung Apps: Browser, Calculator, Clock, Contacts, Gallery, Music
- Full screen Samsung apps
- New S-Voice (from Galaxy S4)
- Samsung Wallet comes pre-loaded
- Minor UI tweaks (Contacts app, Flashlight Widget, dialog boxes etc)
- Android 4.3 features – widget lockscreen, daydream
Trim is already there... But support for smart extension apps - most of them use API-level we don't yet have and that's why those apps wont work on our 4.1.2. Biggest thing is to get the device work with smart accessories well and use the full potential they have.
will all this be available to the wi fi models?

I read that all will be made available thru the different carriers.
Yeah...I noticed a lot of excitement about the 4.4 update. Like some not-so-tech-savvy folks, I'm afraid that updates could break more than they fix. I didn't even upgrade from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2, even though my father really wanted to update it for me - now I won't let him touch it. xD I don't want Samsung to add any new "bloatware" or extra apps I don't want and can't uninstall. I've used my mother's Note 3, and I don't like the different outlay of things. I don't use my tablet as a phone at all, so any updates to do with that are irrelevant to me.
Though my tablet hardly lags, the only benefit I could get from an update is if it made everything run even faster and more smoothly. Oh, and if the notification bar were moved to the top of the screen like on the 2014 Note 10.1, so I don't need to keep accidentally hitting it when I draw. All in all, though, I highly doubt I would install this update even if it became available to me.

Ever heard about root? I'm pretty sure that all the "so-tech-savvy-folk" are having root on their tablets, and if not, they don't complain about bloatwares or other things. With the right apps, you can uninstall all these apps, install tweaks or other superb apps like Adblocker or something. You can even change the notification bar if you want. A new update is always good and I think everyone should have the opportunity to test it. And if you don't like it, there is still a chance to go back to 4.1.1 or an older firmware. And please don't tell me this all is complicated, there are a lot of great tutorials here on xda and a great community who are ready to help anyone.
I'm really impatient for this update and I will welcome all of samsung's bloatware with little friend titanium backup ^^
Simply the fact 4.4 finally adds some proper support for printers is reason enough for me to stick to cm-11, even though tethering does not work in the current build for my LTE note.
I might go back to stock once Samsung releases this, so I can have everything working again without losing the new features.

I've heard about root, but no, I like my device the way it is. I didn't complain about having bloatware now, only that I was afraid there would be bloatware AFTER the update, like I heard some people had extra apps installed on their devices after an update that they said didn't change much else. Thank you for being informative, however.
Also, I never said nor was it ever my intention to imply that other people shouldn't have the opportunity to test it. In fact, I think it's great that folks are getting what they've wanted for so long. I was merely expressing my opinion about not wanting updates, which I have as much right to state as anyone who does want their updates.
Exactly what I did when I bought two of these (2012 version) sometime ago. I rooted mine and with Titanium I froze all the bloatware apps. You don't need to be rooted to disable bloatware... Just go to your application manager and disable your apps from there. You should be able to disable most of them. Probably all bloatware, but I don't do it that way so I can't confirm. Still, I always root just because I like installing Titanium, Root Explorer, Xposed Installer, AdAway, etc. Also install a custom recovery so I can backup my image and be able to restore if anything happens.
The device has been rock solid since I got it and I use it daily. The only way I wouldn't upgrade to KitKat is if it came with a locked bootloader. Even then that wouldn't exactly be a showstopper as i don't really play with custom kernels on it. I save that for other devices and computers I use and own. I also wouldn't necessarily expect that on a Wifi only device.

The biggest thing for me is native apps 2 sd support. I have my 16gb tablet loaded with apps using the storage swap script however it's not perfect as those who use it know, at some point you get a low space warning even when you have plenty of space left. I hope this would no longer be an issue when not running this script.
If you don't care about the update, then don't update the tablet, simple as that. On the other hand, I'm very excited. A lot of things have changed with android between 4.1 and 4.4 and it's a much smoother experience.

First sorry for off topic. but this should help you
The low disk usage warning can be fixed..
download a app called disk usage from play store. It will show you Exactly where your data has gone. The data (GHOSTE DATA) is likely a app you use a LOT. look for cache files that are large.
Once you find the app with large amounts of cache. Go to settings / Applications/ FIND THE APP That is the issue. Clear its cache files as needed.
GOOGLE + Seems to be the one that Gives us the most troubles.. But its a app we use a lot. others like maps facebook apps and so on can do the same..
Good Luck.. :good:

A custom rom with supercharge scripts would give you all the smoothie goodness you ever wanted. And you can put it on stock too!

Hello!
I have a problem with CM13. Since I installed it, android became slower. It often feels like it has full memory and it cannot open new apps, aswell sometimes foreground apps are getting killed (lack of memory?). Going back to "desktop" makes it load again, as it was killed before.
Never had so much problems with memory on stock android. Lately it has even killed waze running foreground twice, while I was using it to navigate.
I dont have much of apps running (checked under developer options - services). Any idea what settings to change, so it doesnt behave as bad as it does?
hi
i have here an I-9505 from Germany xxuhoa7. It worked just fine with Jellybean also with Lollipop a year or two ago. I had the exact same few apps installed as now, yet the phone gets slower and slower with every app update. Even after factory reset (and restore from samsung and google account). Wifi hotspots will not be saved etc. So the phone turned basically to garbage.
Installed apps are pretty much these: Facebook (DUH), Messenger, Instagram, Twitter, IMDB, Wiki, Inbox, Firefox, Chrome, Ebay, Dropbox, Moments, OneDrive, Paypal, and some basic tiny apps like notepad, ssh, Tcmd, Yaste remote. As you can see not those typical resource eaters like games or whatever needs to sync in every 3 seconds. But this doesn't matter since this was the same setup 3 years ago and the phone was faster than the speed of light.
I'm wondering a downgrade, or even simply reinstalling Lollipop with odin would do any good? I believe in full wipe and reinstall so that's what I'm looking for.
"wipe davic cache" and such built in options does not erase everything like the Greeks did with Troy.
Or does this slowing down thing mean that the internal memory is going bad? The phone gets unusually hot as well sometimes. Like I said even after factory reset so that's not really an option.
I have two batteries one is trash still using it for some reason... The phone reboots at any battery percentage total randomly.
I have basic knowledge (some would call it advanced. I wouldn't.)
There is Odin's Options tab, where I would tick Re-Partiton and Nand Erase All, because it sounds like it would burn everything to the ground.
As for reinstalling Lollipop the following files were downloaded for it:
I9505XXUHOA7_OXAHOA7\AP_I9505XXUHOA7_CL3996895_QB3867680_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
I9505XXUHOA7_OXAHOA7\BL_I9505XXUHOA7_CL3996895_QB3867680_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
I9505XXUHOA7_OXAHOA7\CP_I9505XXUHOA7_CL3996895_QB3867680_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
I9505XXUHOA7_OXAHOA7\CSC_OXA_I9505OXAHOA7_CL3996895_QB3867680_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
I9505XXUHOA7_OXAHOA7\JFLTE_EUR_OPEN.pit
Should I just erase all with the options above and put all these files into their relevant places in Odin and do a re-firmware? (yaay a new word)
The Pit tab warns me that it's only for engeneers, and that scares me Ok. Not really.
With one word: can reinstall of the whole system help me with the slow/overheating issue or is it the hardware maybe the trash backed up to and restored from the gmail/samsung account?
Maybe it's just the thing that this device is simply old and one should purchase a new one bc that's the way of life now?
Thanks!
Not your typical resources eaters? Only the Facebook apps use about 400MB RAM together.
Facebook is pretty resource intensive in my opinion.
Anyway. Apps keep getting updated and use more and more resources, your hardware stays the same. It has a harder time coping with the new requirements.
When I first got my S4, I used to underclock the processor to 1.2GHz and the phone still ran very fast. In 2017 doing the same doing makes it slow as hell.
I don't really think there's anything you can do. You could perhaps try custom ROMs.
Facebook and Messenger are both resource hogs. Uninstall them and learn to use the browser. Speaking of which, unless you have a good reason for having both Firefox and Chrome on your device, remove Firefox as it runs very poorly on Android. The other main source of resource drain is Android itself, or more accurately, Touchwiz. If you want a device that can keep up with all the changes in apps, you want to jettison Touchwiz posthaste and move to an AOSP-based ROM.
Thanks for your answers, it is maybe a bit too much to ask but could you name a good working custom rom for the device in question? Maybe with a link to the instruction or direct to the download page?
cheers!
Either JDC Team's Optimized LineageOS or AOSP ROMs should be light enough for your needs. AOSP is the lightest, but isn't as feature rich as LineageOS.

thanks for the suggestions, i try lineage now but it has got no samsung apps and account at all (obviously) which would be fine. but as soon as i try to install i.e. samsung health and launch it the phone says "can't set up app no sim card has been inserted insert a sim card and try again"
and i'm sitting here like "wut!?" i mean what has got a sim card to do with an application on a smartphone?
(no, i don't have a sim card)
tbh i have reinstalled the lollipop completely with odin and the files above and it was.. well faster. so i'll give it a try allthough android 7.1.2 seems pretty cool and fast with only the nano gapps installed.
Neither ROM I recommended has Samsung apps. Samsung apps require Touchwiz, which slows down the phone. There are far better alternatives to the Samsung apps on the Play Store in any event.
