I saw that the S4 lauched with quite a few new tricks
I'm wondering which of these new additions we might be getting via the new software update 4.2 and/or which the devs can port.
Here are all the new features of the s3 (hope i'm not missing anything)
1)dual camera mode
2)group play
3)smart pause
4)smart scroll
5)air features/gestures with finger
6)s-voice drive
7)s-health
8)sound and shoot
9)drama shot
Features that came with new hardware
10)Thermometer
11)IR sensor for use with Samsung ECO system
So i'm guessing we can/will get all the new software features excluding air features with finger, per Samsung this uses additional new hardware with the screen..
Which of this features would you like to see coming to our beloved device?
If you see the ign's review the that they had some problems with these features. They were not completely effective.
They say that they had some problems and did not work smoothly.

Hardly surprising as they've added a lot of stuff. Probably the s4 will be a bit buggy at the outset and they'll fix it with updates.

Before that... They should give us the screen recording features they've promised with note 2...

Not many Note 2 owners would consider a smaller screen as a upgrade.
Someone know when we will gwt the oficial update to android 4.2? Maybe samsung adds to ours notes2 that kind of software.

Alongside the introduction of Galaxy Note 2, Samsung has announced the availability of a new Software Development Kit for the S Pen. The S Pen SDK 2.2 should help developers bring several features found on the Galaxy Note 2 to other S Pen-touting devices, the original Note included. The updated SDK contains new UX scenario, context awareness, and expanded drawing tools.
Of note is the tool that allows apps to recognize the S Pen even when there’s no physical contact between the stylus and the screen. In other words, you can simply hover the pen over the device to trigger certain actions.
Available only for the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Note 10.1 is the ability the launch preset features when the S Pen is detached or when the earphone is attached. As for the expanded doodling tools, a new calligraphy brush has been added to the list of pen input, and there are new color filling features, 33 image effects, an improved UI, and more.
With Samsung doing its part by releasing the new S Pen SDK, the ball is now on the devs’ court to try and create some more advanced apps for the Note series.

i mean an official jelly bean update as in this video -
Hi guys, I have a gs3 international version. Recently I've been flashing over to the leak version of jb stock ROMs over at the other forum under gs3.
There are about 4 stock ROMs all under the leak ver for sg3.
The initial Leak ROM which I've flashed using Odin i9300xxLH1. While using this ROM I sign into Facebook , it recognize my phone as galaxy note 2. Wtf ?
That ROM does include s note lite which is the same as note 10.1.
My question is. Can that stock ROM be flash into our galaxy note?
Noted that the ROM is without kernel. Just firmware. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Can someone check that ROM out?
The new note 2 is fantastic! Ui look and feels just the same like the sgs3.:silly:
I think this update would worl on apps that call or import the thew new s-pen sdk package..
I am awaiting for new innovative approaches to start flowing in.
One great feature i would like is the i can hold the pen in the Contacts app side bar where the alphabets come it can switch fast to the corresponding names.. and further drill down .. on a particular contact it will hover a call or message button which i should click for action.

May be bcoz officially JB is made available on Note 2 only. None of the other samsung devices got JB version until now.
Starting in Germany today Android Central are reporting a brand new update for the International Galaxy Note. It's still based on Android 4.0.4, so don't get get too excited just yet. This brings along popup play, the brand new S Cloud contact backup, home screen improvements, a new lock screen, general UI overhauls and the new 3D gallery app found on the Note 2.
These are said to name 'but a few' of the changes. Until we get some hands on time and start to build a bit change log w e can't be sure. Post up in the thread if you get your hands on it and we can start to sift through it.
On the surface there's nothing I'm massively excited about being a Nova Launcher user, and a QuickPic fan. The popup play could be nice though. Anyway, the crux of the update is this. We're getting Galaxy S III features and Note 2 apps/features before it even launched. This should hopefully be the unofficial handshake we've been hankering after. Android Central believe the Note is now shown as VERY likely to get Jelly Bean from the guys at Samsung and I happen to agree. S Cloud on the Note before it even debuts on the first model to feature it off the shelf? That's hugely encouraging that the Note 2 won't make the Note end of life anywhere near soon.
http://www.androidcentral.com/software-update-brings-s3-and-note-2-features-original-galaxy-note
Change Log (Known)
- TouchWiz 5 (credit to EmuX)
- 3D gallery from Note 2
- Popup play
- Revised lock screen(?) - Allows ability to swipe straight to camera in landscape mode (new?)
- S Cloud contact back up
- Galaxy S III's Direct call (credit to antique_sonic)
WARNING!
Altae reports the following:
Don't try to flash this using mobile odin! You will almost certainly end up with your Note stuck in a boot loop! Use pc odin! During the flashing process you will loose root access! Use Dr. Ketan's guide to restore root access.

Google needs to put it in aosp as soon as possible. I wish they didn't kill off cornerstone as that was originally going to be part of cm but google told them to cease and desist.
Google would have to develop that from scratch, because that's Samsung-proprietary code.
Also, I hope that Google does NOT clutter up Android with stuff like this, for this we have ROMs like PA (which is already stuffed full of features that it barely works as a daily driver).

Paranoid android was great when it was based on cm. Its in 4.2 when they tried to go aosp and make their own tweaks that it became a mess. They need to go back to cm or switch to AOKP(uses CMs main code).
It wouldn't be that difficult to implement multi window. The cornerstone code would be a good starting point and android apps already scale to different resolutions without an issue.

Here at xda rooting is highly encouraged, but what if you don't want to jump ship enjoy what your s3 can do without voiding your warranty in some cases.
Here is what you can do :
1- Widget locker
This app is one of my personal favourites you can customise your lock screen as much as you like add desktop widgets toggles change the sliders etc etc you get the picture.
2- flip fonts
One of the hidden features of the s3 is the ability to change the font type to anything you want there is a thread on the apps and themes section just for that by bala_gamer
3-Custom launcher
These are great want to look like an iPhone no problem there is a launcher for that windows 8 sense they are all available just do a Google search some of them even support themes customise it to your liking
4-custom keyboards
These are amazing the number of keyboards out there is stunning and they have unlimited variations you can swipe to type tap change the colours and themes
5-live wallpapers
These will make your phone come to life from a Facebook and Twitter feeds to simple clocks that you can interact with they are all available
I hope I helped I will be updating this with more apps and links and pics soon

why spend $500 on a phone and not take full control over it? having bloat is very annoying and running apps that require root is amazing.

Because some people buy a phone and just want it to work. Rooting takes a lot of time if you actually read all the instructions and precautions
No root then no XDA Developers forum exists .
Instead you have a fix my phone my phone is cooler than your phone forum with few posts .

I have an S3 now (I had a Galaxy S before though), 4.8 inches of screen with Multiwindow. It may just be because I have big hands, but even on the S3, multiwindowing is barely comfortable. On the S, who knows how well that may work.
Also, that multiwindow needs Samsung JB 4.1.2.

There is no point using it on a 4 inch device. I find using it on my s4 a bit hard at times. The S1 may not perform very well if this implementation is added to the phone.

Wrong. In omni ROM if you go to the recent apps list and hold your finger on an app it let's you put it into split view.
I tried whatsapp with MX player. Phone goes a bit laggy, and if you click in the whatsapp pane then the video pauses. Personally I'd prefer to watch my videos in nice fullscreen landscape and check my messages by pulling the notification shade down.
