I need some help tethering. I'm on paranoid android and I know that tmobile blocks through the user agent string so I changed it to android. I'm on paranoid android it just doesn't work and I'm not sure why. It used to. I don't get a tether pop up warning or anything. Usb tether through pdanet works however. If anyone can help it would be appreciated. I've searched through tether threads but none have been very helpful.

EDIT: Reflashed the ROM and it fixed it...no idea what messed up my tethering, very strange.

are you rooted?
wireless tether works fine. Try disabling encryption and/or access control and see if it works that way
Yes I am rooted but I haven't tried what you suggested. Thanks and I will give that a go.

OK, so I tried everything you told me about but it still doesn't seem to work. Here is my situation, I recently got an iPad and want to use my phone as a hot spot so I can connect on the go. The wireless tether turns on but neither my mothers eve or my iPad seems to connect to it properly. They do connect but it doesn't let me do any kind of web browsing. Thanks again for any help.
Which app and version are you using?

I'm running 2.0.6

Works fine for me... Not sure what the problem would be. Sure access control is off? When you connect your pc, what color is the shield that pops up in your notification bar?

This seems to be the problems on a number of roms. They only way I've been able to get my wifi tether to work is when I've been bone stock. I don't know what might be broken in the process of cooking up the roms for us but something is breaking it. I get the same issue. It connects to my phone but I get no internet signal. Access control and encryption off. Tried changing the ssid and that hasn't worked. They've been tryin to figure out what the problem is on the IRC channel

What rom are you using...I have no problems running wifi tether with mikrom

Again, thanks for all the help. I have tried switching to mikrom and still a no go for me. I have tried everything from changing ssid to trying different channels. Any know of just a rooted bare bone stock rom?

Not why it doesn't work but now I am on a bare stock rom and still a no go. I have tried connecting my moms evo and it just sits trying to obtain the ip address but for some reason it just never connects.

Anyone able to confirm this? If that's the case ill probably stick to my rooted froyo...the tether is just too convenient at times...

You can tether, however the 3G wireless hotspot no longer works, I do believe Wireless Tether still works however
Didnt work for me... Tried using code.android wifi tether for root users yesterday and it did not work.
Think the application has to be updated.

Contact the developer. I use usb tethering through easytether, and it works perfectly
I had two tether apps, both failed under .595...depressing.
Someone inboxed me that the older version of the tether app works under GB, but I haven't tried looking for it. I will probably take JMoney47's advice and use easytether since he says it works.

Are you talking about the paid built in 3G Hotspot? That's working fine for me. Also one thing I like is how Motorola actually kept the code in for USB tethering now as well. I like this because now I don't have to worry about VZAccess manager which never supported the X - I just use my Mobile Hotspot/USB Tether 2GB plan with the built in USB Tether.
If your talking about rooted wireless tether, my buddy said he had issues with it. But the "official" one works.
wifi tether

Couldn't get it to work.
I tried this but couldn't get it to work for me. What am I doing wrong? I booted into recovery and flashed the patch then rebooted. After the phone came back up I tried Barnacle Wireless Tether and Wireless Tether for Root and with both apps when I started them the Verizon WiFi Hotspot app came up so it was like 2 WiFi hotspot apps were running and conflicted with each other. Both Barnacle and Wireless for Root showed errors saying either the network was unavailable or "DHCP: Could not bind to DHCP port: Address already in use."
Am I confused about how to use this patch? After the patch am I supposed to use the official Verizon WiFi app (and it doesn't charge me extra) instead of the other hotspot apps I mentioned?
[Edit] Nevermind. I figured it out after reading Wug's entire post and seeing that I am supposed to use the beta Wireless Tether that is part of the patch (yellow icon) instead of the released Wireless Tether for Root (green icon) I already had installed. So it works great now.

Have you tried using the native tethering mod? You can find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1860817
Just flash from recovery and you can just use the stock wifi tethering in the settings menu.
EDIT: I suppose I didn't really answer your question... I know WiFi Tether can be quirky like that (at least back when I used it) but native tethering works great. If you really want to make WiFi Tether work... well I guess I'm no help!
Anyone have a way to enable the built in tethering on d800 att version. I changed tether entitlement check value to 0 rebooted and tried to enable tethering and it failed. I kept trying and eventually lost use of my hone button. Wiped and tried again with same results. Thanks for any help

I'm a little surprised that this hasn't been figured out yet, and not really talked about for the AT&T version. It looks as if it's been solved for the Verizon version though. FoxFi tether to my laptop is the only thing working for me at the moment. I did use the bluetooth tether via FoxFi with my Nexus 7, but it seemed a little unstable, and couldn't seem to access everything. For example it would access the Play store, but not allow a download.
