My thoughts so far: (5days)
PROS:
-WATER/DUST RESISTANT NEED I SAY MORE!!!
-Excellent Build! very nice looking and thin
-Wifi is really good (i live in an old house and on the third floor still get good wifi strength)
-5" Screen is really good! When you get great HD wallpapers (zedge or backgrounds HD) it really pops.
-Micro SD slot BIG + (takes 64GB when formatted)
-Good ringtones and notifications
-Strong vibration
-Nice U.I (some lag but switched to NOVA Laucher)
-When combined with Nova Launcher this phone is BEAST!!!
-Sounds nice with headphones on (not as good as my S3 w/ PowerAMP)
-GAMES ARE AWESOME!!! (Sleepy jack,Tapped out Simpsons,Dark Night)
-Thick lanyard hole (ima wear this as a chain lol)
CONS:
-Walkman doesn't read folders it just puts all the albums into one folder
-Lockscreen either you have a swipe OR lock can't have both
-Non removable battery (trade off)
-Can't choose lockscreen wallpaper when pattern is chosen (only in swipe)
-Album puts everything in one folder (i use Quickpic)
-Sony services run in the background (may contribute to battery drainage)
-Blacks are no where as good as Samsung's SAMOLED (on the flip side higher pixel density and colors that pop)
-Speaker on the side WHY!!!
-Android 4.1.2
NEUTRAL:
-Battery has been good so far, time will tell (DS battery saver on slumberer mode + Stamina ON = 3hrs 50mins screentime and 11hrs 30mins for the day 100%-1%)
-Camera first impressions OK need more time with the camera
-Gets dirty really fast
*I then used the screen protectors that came with the XZ and doesn't get dirty with lint anymore just finger prints but, i ordered these protectors: http://dx-box.com/imak-anti-fingerprint-layer-screen-protector-for-sony-xperia-z.html
-PowerAMP doesn't sound as good as Walkman (would rather use Walkman for it's sound but, no folders means a pain to search especially, when you got 45GB worth of music)
*PowerAMP has an option to use the phone's equalizer this is how: Settings>Audio>Advanced Tweaks>MusicFX. Go back to Tone/Vol menu screen you will see the MusicFX toggle on the top left. Long press for options.
Though it has been only 5 days days since i got the phone, overall, I am very happy with this phone! Most of the CONS are software based and in time there would be MOD's,hacks, etc to fix them.Extremely well built phone with a premium feel that's what i wanted! Although, there is one thing i wanted on this phone,a removable battery, but, when you get a water/dust resistant smartphone with a MicroSD slot, it's a sacrifice that i will gladly live with! Still have my S3 got a plan to swap for a s4 when it comes out. Will play with the XZ and s4 and will choose which one to sell.
walkman do read folders! I uploaded my playlists from itunes via Bridge and found playlist in the walkman
and you can change the lockscreen image
Speaker on the side isn't good when holding but is good when the phone is on the table since you can listen and hear very well (lot better than xperia s).

nice review.
The walkman app uses ID3 taggs to create albums. There is even an option to create ID3 tags, don't know if it uses folder names dough.
Album app uses folders if you click on the "my albums" tab you will see the folders (didn't see it at first as well)
I find most of that to mirror my use of the Z. The screen isn't quite as good as the HTC One or the Nexus 4 but it is very very good and razor sharp.
As for the walkman player, I find it much worse quality and volume to poweramp so I use poweramp.
The pattern lock is excellent because it allows you to have your live wallpaper on the lock screen which is awesome for a change
With regards to the removeable battery, every single phone i've ever used which has that, creaked and squeeked due to the back cover coming on and off so i'm not missing the squeeking at all.

-Ok,going to try again with the walkman.
-You can change the lockscreen wallpaper but, only when it's in swipe mode. If you have it on pattern as security you can't change your wallpaper. Pretty much the wallpaper you choose as your homescreen is your lockscreen wallpaper.
-Good point lol

It should be replaceable by Sony this is mandatory in the EU it is required by law that battery's are replaceable for an except able fee. So if it is possible by Sony it is possible for others as well.,

No. You take it to an authorized Sony repair centre where they change your battery.

1st: Hope of constructive debate, so that people who spend half of months salary on this phone (650eur) get better info and don't blindly thrust posts that say XZ has eye popping colours.
2nd: It was just a question about where the hell OP sees eye popping colours... especially since he actually compared them to amoled.
3rd: I liked the phone, that was my motive for reading a lot about this phone, but as verge review said, it looks better with screen off as did XT.

Hi,
Here are a couple of new Xperia videos...

(These sets of vids are the first real in-depth [well somewhat] videos presented by Sony Ericsson itself. Switching from portrait to landscape is fast... one thing to note however is the panel load time for some panels - which can take second or two to load up and refresh - however not a huge concern, especially when my iPhon takes a couple of seconds to load some of its basic stuff especially the Settings page!)

Cheers! Just making my way through them now, the first one certainly makes the UI look pretty snappy.
EDIT: Why did they have to waste time browsing with PIE at all? Loved the speed of the UI orientation switching there though.
The panels video was OK, the speed and choppiness of the animation when it switches is a bit off-putting, but I hope you can turn that off and just have it switch without pointless eye-candy.
Music player looks nice, finger-friendly which is super important (although it eventually dumps you into WMP, which is less finger-friendly - wish they had their own player too, like the Touch Pro - wonder if a registry entry can have it point to Coreplayer or something else). Hope you can just have a panel that goes straight to the music player though, without needing to select it from the list. No worries though - I expect custom panels will come pretty fast once this gets out there.
Really liking the look of the camera app UI. The Touch Pro camera and UI are both rather rubbish, it would be nice to get a better camera (thing I miss the most from my N82).
GPS performance looks acceptable, although no idea whether that it a cold lock or not.

Did he have a lock at all? Beeline GPS showed nothing. I think that was just the quick google maps "my location", but he had no cell signal either. Maybe beeline was just not configured correctly to use the GPS.

Most of the panels load quick (the panel goes up pretty quick, but some of the quick-launch/shortcuts come up delayed) except the media player one, but not that slow, if you ask me.
And yeah... i really hate that Magnus guy too. Why can't SE find a decent guy who knows how to present something in a good manner. (on the contrary, his fish panel one was pretty amusing - especially the way he was hitting the screen )
Never had a touch screen device before (except a Palm), but in my understanding you should be more careful with the screen

My iPhone's screen got crushed - kind of like a windscreen when you take a baseball bat to it - in an accident that i had 3 months back. I got out of the hospital a month later and checked how much it'll cost to get it repaired, and the price in Pakistani Ruppee equals $200! Completely insane!!!
It still worked flawlessly though...

It says on the page; Spencer Kelly tries out the new Google Android mobile, sizes up the Sony-Ericsson Xperia X1 smartphone running on Windows, and the new LG Renoir. Anyone who has seen it, can you tell how exactly do they size it up against Xperia? (but only if its anything other than 'Xperia has Windows at its base' with a smirk on their faces)
To me the G1 lacks a lot of things, but most of all, it looks UgLy! (well ok, not that ugly, but still BLEH!)
It lacks a couple of very important features, but for me the most important being Microsoft Exchange Support, and an office suite fully compatible with Office 2007.

The screen is definitely better than one would expect it to be. I dropped it a couple of times without anything happening to it - the accident had to affect the screen 'cos i literally flew into the air after impact and fell on the same side where i had the mobile in my pocket... OUCH!
There's no trouble getting the screen repaired... i'll just have to put down $150-200 for it...
Funny thing is that even with the broken screen, i can sell it off for a decent price. (but am thinking of keeping it as an iPod touch instead after getting the screen repaired - am waiting for the screen price to drop down a little - as there are some really cool games on it... )
Don't get me wrong, I love this phone and think it'd be PERFECT, but nothing ever really does come perfect and for those who are really keen on buying this, I think you should take a look at some of the things I certainly wish they'd done better.
1) No notification LED - Maybe this is a Samsung thing but for a device catered for business, I really wish they've added this small detail that can do so much good! And don't tell me to get NoLED from market either, the point of the LED is that I can see notifications without having to press any buttons.
2) Poor sound and call quality - It might have to do with the Yamaha codec that others on the forum have been complaining about. My phone before the Note was a Motorola Milestone 2/Droid 2, and Motorola beats Samsung's call quality big time. Motorola has CrystalTalk which would spoil anyone who needs to make calls all the time, whether I'm in HK's busy subway or its most crowded districts, I'm able to hear and the other party can hear me just fine. With Samsung Galaxy Note, I push my incoming call volume to the highest and can hardly make out what the other party is saying unless they voice up. The other party can hardly hear me as well. There's no noise-cancellation whatsoever. It's a tad better if you make calls without a headset, but as a girl, it looks super silly holding up the Note to my face. I use Marshall Minor earphones for conversations and they worked wonderfully well with Motorola, not that great with Samsung. I am not sure if high-end noise-cancellation earphones the likes of Sennheiser or Shure would work better but I'm no audiophile and I really don't want to have to pay half the price of the phone for some quality conversations. Music is passable, both on the speaker and on the earphones, but don't expect it to do a good job with low-bass. If you're an audiophile, you'd need a dedicated MP3 player or HTC's Sensation XE might be a better phone for you.
3) Not-so-great power button placement - The Power/Screen Off button is right where the volume rocker buttons are placed on the other side of the phone. I find myself accidentally pushing the screen off button when I really just want to adjust the volume. There's so much space on the top of the phone for this button.
4) No dedicated camera shutter button - Not really a HUGE deal here but a device this big can come with one. I recently notice that the new phones coming out are dropping this
5) Pre-installed keyboard not good enough - Coming from a Milestone which has a dedicated QWERTY slider keyboard, some might think I'm biased about this, but no, I've played with HTC's Sensation keyboards and hardly make a typing error, and it definitely made me switch to an all touch-screen device. For this one, if you don't get the Thumb Keyboard or some other keyboard you're used to, then you might find it quite frustrating to message or type up e-mails. Of course, you can use the S-pen and handwriting recognition, which I find quite pleasantly smart.
6) Poor customizability - Please note that this is not a Note-exclusive problem but with Touch-Wiz. I am not keen of the Touch-Wiz interface and immediately changed the interface to Launcher Pro, unfortunately, many of the widgets that are part of the Touch-Wiz UI can no longer be added. I wish Samsung would change that.
7) Phone does not include S-Pen tutorials as well as other Note-exclusive features - Unless you download the full 190-page manual (English version), there's not much help in getting to know the features of the phone. There are pop-ups now and then telling you certain features, but if I didn't watch a ton of Youtube 'first impression' videos, I wouldn't know of the gestures functionality and other cool features I can do with the S-Pen. However, this is not a reason for NOT buying the phone.
8) Poor Touch-Wiz Low Customizability- If you don't love Touch-Wiz, you won't like the pre-installed interface. You can always change it to Launcher Pro but that means there'd be widgets you cannot use if you don't use Touch-Wiz. I like the Calendar widget but have to make do with Pure Grid Calendar Widget if I use Launcher Pro. And for some reason, if you're a root user, you still cannot change the battery icons (I've created another thread about this), but I probably should not blame this on Touch-Wiz or the ROM Samsung uses, as rooting is fully a personal choice. I just wish we have themes to turn off the ugly green Android is so fond of using (can't wait till ICS comes out because I see blue finally!)
9) S-Pen is hard to draw with off-table - Unless you have a super steady hand, I find writing (not to mention drawing) on the Note a challenge. There's several promotional videos from Samsung showing off the artwork that can be done with the S-Pen just by holding the Note in your hand as you would a PDA but I personally doubt it'd be easy unless you're a seasoned artist with a very steady hand. However, the S-Pen is FUN to use and amazing for jotting notes, so again, it should not be something to deter you from getting this phone if you don't plan on replacing your WACOM pen tablets with this.
10) Battery Removal required for SIM or MicroSD cards access- You'd think a phone of this size will allow you to swap out at least the MicroSD without having to power off, but unfortunately, this is not feasible with the Note.
So far, these are the few "quirks" I don't like about the Galaxy Note, but otherwise, the phone never ceases to amaze others not only because of its size but it's functionality and brilliant screen.
P.S. Forgot to add one more point, there are no A/V or media ports other than MicroUSB and 3.5mm audio jack (no HDMI or other ports) which doesn't bother me but might others.
If those are your gripes, this phone must be amazing.
Thanks for your POV!
With regards to 1,6 and 8, I agree that these are Samsung wide problems at the moment. But obviously its all down to personal preference. I use ADW Ex on my SGS2 but the fact that you can't use the Samsung S widgets on it means I might actually try TW for a while first!
Just out of interest, where did you get your Not from and how much did you pay in total for it?

I got it from a shopping plaza in Mong Kok District of Hong Kong. That plaza sells many 2nd hand as well as new imported phones. I got mine for HK$5760 (~USD 742), they also allowed me to trade-in my good ol' Milestone 2 so I only paid a total of HK$4160 (~USD 536).
1) Notification LED - hopefully we will get a custom kernel with BLN support soon You have rooted it, right??
8) So TouchWiz sux - but there are lots of other Launchers to choose from.
10) Actually you CAN remove the SIM and sdcard without removing the battery - you just need to pry up the edge with a small tool - they are pretty flexible.
I'll add two gripes to your list:
- The protective camera glass on the back is slightly RAISED, so it is gonna get scratched up FAST if you ever put your Note down on any dirty/uneven surface. And because the glass is actually part of the CAMERA (not the case), it's probably not replaceable.
- The S-pen is too small, and pretty laggy in some apps, making it not even worth using (like drawing). And its touch-sensitivity is pretty worthless. And you can't tap the menu/back buttons with it.
But I still love my Note And it's only gonna get better as the custom ROMs start showing up.

Yes, you're right about the small part, I'm Asian and a girl, so my hands are pretty small which makes the pen just right, but I can understand some people with bigger hands will find using it a real pain. I do agree with you on the other points!

I got a Polish "plus" Network model too (from handtec.co.uk) - how weird. Poor quality control...
First some comments on the above gripes :
noled shows you led notifications without you needing to touch the screen. It's pretty decent. I'd rather have a real led but it's not bad at all. Try it.
If you are using the stylus you hit the button and swipe up for the menu, and or swipe left to go back. That's how you get around the button issue.
Now my gripes:
The capacitive buttons (menu, back) are WAY too sensitive and I find myself accidentally hitting them constantly. One handed use is almost possible too, but I keep rubbing those buttons and it wrecks everything.
I think I need more friction to write with the stylus - I don't use it much at the moment.

Do you find that NoLed impares the battery function of your phone? I have heard reviews on the SGS2 that it kills the battery while others say it is OK. As far as I am aware, NoLed turns the entire screen on while displaying its mini icons, would be nice if it could just activate a few icons on the top left or right of the screen.
I guess they put the notification LED in the Nexus, keeping it excluisive to that.
I am willing to buy the Note sight unseen because I love my friends S2's and I drooled over the LTE HD edition coming out. The Note is like 50 times better. I can't wait for my shipment on Monday!

Depends what you're running. With Launcher Pro, I do feel a wee bit of lag when I use the Pulse widgets on one of the homescreens, I have 3 of those dragged out though and they all need to gather data, so I wouldn't expect it to go smoothly.
Otherwise, i'm playing Asphalt 6 while playing music with PowerAmp and I don't feel lag.

First of all, remember that this is amoled and each pixel is lit up individually. So it doesn't 'turn the entire screen' on unless you turn the entire screen white. Or you run on an lcd phone with a backlight.
It runs fine for me at the moment Although i want to do more battery tests to see what uses how much power. It could still be the case that noled drains battery via cpu usage or wakeups.

This is from the NoLed FAQ, similarly to what I have read online, opinion varies:
Q: What about battery drainage ? How much battery percentage does this app consume per hour ?
A: To answer this question, I quote our friend evilhunter101 from xda-forums.com
"That's a question that simply can't be answered for you and everyone else who wonders. Why? Because all the available settings change the battery consumption, as well as what other apps you have installed and what kernel or OS you are using. Simply put, try the app. If you like it, keep it. If not, uninstall it. You have literally got nothing to lose.
P.s. I see no difference with or without NoLED, while others swear its a battery hog. I imagine we have it set up very differently."

P.S. Forgot to add one more point, there are no A/V or media ports other than MicroUSB and 3.5mm audio jack (no HDMI or other ports) which doesn't bother me but might others.

I am a short guy with pretty small hands, so I'm curious about how you feel using it. Is it even possible to do anything one-handed for you? Do you feel it's comfortable holding in one hand and using the other other for navigating? And finally, is it comfortable using the on-screen keyboard, might it be too big?
Thanks for your input so far. Good having people saying what's not so good as well.

It's a tad better if you make calls without a headset, but as a girl, it looks super silly holding up the Note to my face. I use Marshall Minor earphones for conversations and they worked wonderfully well with Motorola, not that great with Samsung.

Wait, you're saying call quality through earphones is WORSE than call quality just holding the phone? This is very alarming as that's how I make most of my calls. Can anyone else confirm this?

Some of these things are Xperia and Arc specific, some are Android in general, but that's fine.

The iPhone 4 had the problem of loosing signal, I think it was fixed on the 4s
The only other things I can think of is
-Bigger screen, 4.2" vs 3.5"
-Easily modified and customised to suit your needs
-Doesn't cost as much (an obvious one, but not listed above)
-Ergonomic arc shape for perfect palm fit, iPhone square and uncomfortable
-Continued unofficial support for the device, even when the manufacturer stops providing updates
-Stronger, screen/back doesn't shatter when dropped unlike the iPhone
-Can plug USB stick, game controller, Keyboard and mouse via Micro USB
-Dedicated camera button (can use volume button on iPhone, but doesn't do auto focus)
-The arc is thinner
-arc has clip to allow wrist strap
-Dual microphones for better phone calls
- 3D photos
-Continual auto focus when filming
Thats all I can think of atm, you might struggle to find 50 haha

I have iphone 3gs IOS5 and Xperia Arc, still using both phone till now....i cant compare to 4s cause i dont have one but till now my experience with iphone is ok with a little drawback compare to Arc...3gs have only 600mhz and arc have 1Ghz, but it perform smoothly even the phone is full of apps...but with my arc it will sometimes lag a little...but with iphone with only 256 of RAM, the phone will sometimes Force close an app even games on play and it will make u mad....
In iphone, in my opinion the orientation is better than the arc as u will noticed the iphone have smooth animation when u oriented the phone as the arc will only blink when you move the phone...well this is not worth mentioning right but i just want to point out the difference and maybe what is best on these phone...
One think i think the best on iphone is the media player...music player is easy to control and search and the video player is the best what i think than the android stock....i use it everyday cause my arc video player is sometimes hard to control.....what i post here is not meant to look down on Arc but just want to make what is the difference between these phone....what i use on iphone is just play game, a little and see video only....and what i use for arc is everything else....well for u guys, the iphone is boring to look at and boring for everyday use, when the arc is beautiful and the home screen is elegant and never get tired to customize it...hehe
if u think i may offend u all in any other way, forgive me okay...i just like these 2 phone to use....nothing is perfect....

There's an issue with the Xperia Live Wallpaper. With it active, the homescreen micro lags, but then again, it also happens on my Z Ultra so evidently a wallpaper issue.
With a static wallpaper there is a noticeable difference in the operation of the device. Pinch to zoom in Chrome is perfect, I experience micro lags with animations on the Z which aren't apparent on the Z2.
Early indications on the battery life are positive and GTA SA plays flawlessly on full settings with the Z2, but it stutters immensely on the Z.
The design feels even more premium in the hand. Sony has rounded off the edges slightly and given it's weight and thickness, is alot more comfortable to hold for long durations.
Software feels well rounded. There are a few tweaks such as the separate notification tray and quick settings that make it feel more like a tablet (rather than the ugly tray on the Z from 4.2.2+), you can now "Cose All" from the recent apps tray, with multiple small apps open there is an additional option called "Grid" which positions them randomly on the screen, smart back light control and noise cancellation, plus the new lockscreen. Swipe up from the home button there is now "What New" alongside Google Now which is a well designed app which gives you top music, video, apps and games.
The additional of the vibrator for haptic feedback is also pleasing.
Huge improvement with the camera too.

Thanks a lot for your very thorough review. If you don't mind a question, how is the performance in Chrome when scrolling through a image heavy website (something like Google Image search or one of the news sites with lots of pictures)?

I just did a Google search for the word "Google" - the Z2 doesn't stutter, even when the images are loading or haven't fully loaded.
The Z stuttered only when the images where loading. When all images where loaded, both devices where smooth
The Z2 definably has the upper hand.
As another example of the speed. If I open the Play Store and immediately swipe right to bring out the navigation tray. The Z2 is instant and the animation is smooth. The Z lagged and instead of showing the tray, it just appeared out of thin air.
Could you do a system dump for us all? PM me if you need any tutorials and can't find one (it's pretty easy, but you might need help). Just app, priv-app and framework folders needed.

Bah. My pre-order is delayed because I ordered the damn case with it.
Wanted it to be protected from the get-go, but it seems if I want the tablet, I could have it this week, but the whole order, with the case, means it's all on back order.
Bggrit.
Man I was all set to order this and just surfing around found a Ipad mini 2 64gb $400. Brand new full warranty no refurbished. My kids have apply stuff not me. I never even looked at Ipad. For ME this little thing has the best battery life of any Android I have ever had. The only reason I got it was I could jailbrake it. Got the 7.06 on it just before they put out 7.1. Why they dont let people just theme and ad widgets I have no clue.
I do have another android (kinda older). Its just I was looking at $499 16 vs $400 64. I can still sell this and make money. I miss the live wall paper yet I always turned it off thinking its sucking battery lol. Then I find out some of the games that had those extra effects that only Nvidia could run. The ipad mini retina has all those effects. Hmm I bet that 801 chip would have no problems running any nvidia THD game.
If the Sony was just cheaper I would have got that. Not here to sell anything. I would rather have the Sony.. just love Android. But just wanted to share....I love this site.
Just got mine.
Initial impressions:
It's so thin and light , it's almost uncanny.
Build quality is OK but the use of plastic feels a bit cheap for a device in this price range.
Way to many useless and unremovable apps for my taste (Facebook and Google+ first come to mind)
Tap does not always register. I often have to tap twice. This is a deal breaker. Does anyone experience the same thing?
The covers for the SD and USB ports look weak.
It also could have used a rotation lock switch .
This is me *****ing otherwise it looks like a great devices except for the part where touch doesn't always register (faulty unit?)
I'll make a system dump (non root) and post it in he development thread this afternoon.

The touch issues could be related to a faulty unit or maybe a not so perfect FW. If it is related to that, could be fixed. I think the first fw of the Tablet Z had the other way around: Too sensitive screen. And really, REALLY thanks about the system dump

I just got mine yesterday, and thought I had a few times with it not registering touches, but upon further testing, I think I was just missing the navigation buttons. I enabled the show touches option in the developer options and they seem to all register for me unless I'm on the very edge, overlapping the bezel. It does seem like the target areas for the navigation buttons are pretty small though and black navigation buttons blend right into the bezel. I'm confident this can all be addressed in firmware/software updates. Hopefully yours is too.
Overall I'm loving it - it's so light! The screen is a fingerprint magnet, but I can live with that since it looks great. The sound is great too - really everything I expected. I didn't order any accessories, but am now thinking the charging dock will be much more convenient than fiddling with the flaps to charge it. I am glad it is waterproof though, so I don't really have to worry about dropping it in the tub or pool.

I'm torn between the Galaxy tab pro 10.1 and the Z2
Can anyone post about their battery life? How is build quality? Any lag moving around the interface?
I agree on that screen issue. It seems like the navigation buttons only work if you completely hit them. If you miss them by a small margin they don't register. That's probably a software thing though. Apart from that.... Wow what a tablet, it's so thin and light. I really really like mine so far.

After playing a bit with it, I have the exact same impressions: the navigation buttons are easily missed. The dead zone around the bezel is too large, and for some reason I often touch a few pixels away from my target. It's definitively not hardware related. But it bugs me, if it stills bugs me a week from now it'll go straight back to Sony.
About the battery life , I charged it to full yesterday afternoon, played with it for about 4 hours in the evening, mostly web and HD vids, It got 70% battery life left. It discharged 1% overnight . Too early to tell but looking good so far.
It feels very snappy. I did have one severe slowdown (once just opening a new tab in Firefox the whole tablet froze for like 10 seconds ) , it never happened since and it running butter smooth.
It's so slim and light that it's quite hard to hold actually. I struggled a bit to find an easy was to hold it with one hand whereas my old Iconia A500 (twice as thick and almost twice as heavy) feels more natural although more straining. Even with two hands the square edges are not comfortable.
I put the Z2 in my Iconia case for the time being, it does not fit perfectly but is much easier to hold.
Aside from the unremovable apps, as always, I'm quite positively surprised with the Sony ROM, it's very pleasant to use.
Nice touches: multi color notification led, front speakers are loud and clear, IR blaster (although the app sucks)
Now all I really want is root access...
Awesome!
They should arrive in Australia next week, looks like I'll have to get one
Please keep dropping thoughts on it when you feel the need!
I'm sure the touch issue will be resolved with an update.
CM11 would be freaking amazing on this!
Review and benchmarking
A Polish site has published a review. Though I don't understand Polish the benchmarking results look very good; this tablet scores top in most, but not in the SunSpider Javascript benchmark where it is outperformed by others. Playing a HD-movie at 55% brightness gave a battery life of 12,5h. For normal usage the battery lasted about 3 days:

Hey!
Phone finally arrived after 2 months of waiting. First impressions are as follows (updated in the future as more impressions come):
The PROS
- Very nice looking device, great build, no gaps in the corners. BUT: the usb flap aluminium colored bit doesn't align perfectly to the rest of the frame. A minor bummer.
- Everything is very fast, nice UI. Easy to use little apps and everything just so well done. Would've preferred the old pull down menu where you got some buttons straight away. Is this changeable?
- Sounds are very nice for a phone. BUT, how do I get earphones to work? I tried the noise cancelling phones and they worked fine. Then I switched to my hi-fi headphones and they didn't work. After that even the original HPs didn't work. What to do?
- Nice notification LED
- Dedicated camera button much appreciated! Makes life so much easier.
- Nice camera as well, compact-like, although shooting could be faster. Photo preview is very fast. No gripes with automation even in dim lighting, works well enough and very nice auto white balance.
- Love the gallery, video and music players. (SGS 3 sucked in comparison)
- Double tap to wake works like a charm (always when properly done, not when too sloppy).
- Overall a very nice phone and will be cherished for years to come.
The CONS
- Minor flaw that doesn't bother me after I've gotten to actually use the device: SIM-card tray is wayyyy flimsy. Good that you get to play with it often.
- I can't charge the phone from usb, so why is it an USB cable?
- Con that doesn't really have to do with the phone itself but the aftermarket screen protector: Its too long for the screen glass. Nillkin glass and plastic back protectors both too long. I also suspect that the sound is affected because it blocks part of the speaker openings. Tough to say for sure.
- Headphones don't work...
Questions:
1. Is it really true that I need to charge this through the wall socket!? No usb charging? Doesn't work on my laptop(s). Can't even connect for data transfer...
2. Anyone else with the Nillkin glass screen protector got it too long? Mine goes over the glass, onto the plastic and it leaves two areas that don't touch the screen in the corners.
3. How can I get a direct call (no call & message, only call) contact "widget" to put on one of the home screens?
4. Headphones, how to get them to work? (see description above)
Update: The headphones do work, it was just not consistent. I think it has to do with the connect activation thing. The noice canceling IEMs are nearly as good as my own IEMs... Go figure. Quality stuff anyways.
My Z2 DOES charge through USB from PC..
I can also charge from USB. Maybe the connection is loose. For the headphones, you need to insert it properly because it's a 5 pin socket. There is a widget called Top Contacts, you can try that if it works for you.

2. Anyone else with the Nillkin glass screen protector got it too long? Mine goes over the glass, onto the plastic and it leaves two areas that don't touch the screen in the corners.

Did you get the L50T version? Of so, it's for the Chinese version which is a bit longer than the international Z2 (L50/W). I ordered the wrong one first from dx-box, but luckily I read on the accessories section about this problem and had time to order the right one before I recieved my phone.

Think you. I didn't even know about this. Now ordered the right one.
If Anyone Who doesn't have the phone has any questions, I can try to answer them.

The headpnoes were a software issue I guess, since it had trouble with both headphones.
Top contacts that's in the phone (I got it in finnish so I don't know if its the same)? It doesn't have direct dial I'm afraid but I use it for now.
Still looking for direct dial widget that can do separate mini icons for direct call and messages. Also, where can I access the gesture options? I want to be able to make a call by taking the phone to my ear.
Edit: Found the direct dialing and messages. Found in apps, not widgets, which I found a little odd.

Settings -> personalization -> motion. But you can't make a call, only answer, reject and mute.
Headphones don't work
Ok now this is really starting to bug me. I went for a 5km run and the headphones didn't work. I couldn't even go get the noice canceling ones because I didn't start from home. Fine run and got so much out of it because I didn't have music, but in the future I would like to decide for myself if I want to listen to music.
So only the 5-pin noice canceling headphones work anymore. What do? And please don't suggest to use them.

No. Freaking. Way. There has got to be a solution for this. One thing that crossed my mind was moisture...

Ahh, you mean the phone icon? Yup that's an app. I thought you wanted the widget so i recommended the Top Contacts.

No I didn't mean the phone icon, that's default on bottom bar. I wanted direct dialing to a person. That is found under apps - quickies - call shortcuts.
It was a widget on my old phone.
New phone on its way because headset doesn't work. Hope it doesn't have any other faults...
So some remarks:
I like Z2 very very much, another year or more with it
The Z2's size is perfect for me. Bacause of the round edges the handling is a bit better than Z.
I like the buttons as well. I love the camera button.
The screen is amazing. Although with today's technology the difference between Z and Z2 (different generations with Z1 between them and over a year between them..) is not THAT big.
If you look straight it is on a similar level although Z2 looks more detailed and natural. But Z is a bit brighter.
The angles are different of course when Z2 doesn't lose anything under any angle and Z does lose it's colour.
But honestly, I couldn't care less about that.
The sound is great through speakers and it's not very quiet but not totally loud either.
I must say the level is ok. The ringtones I use sound loud enough here (I actually use the ringtones bundled with Z2...)
The call quality works for me ok with a more bassy tone than Z...
Funnily for the first time I turned this Clear Audio + off - it doesn't really add anything to the sound.
I prefer eq + subbass regalation.
The UI is great and default apps are fantastic.
With two annoying glitches:
- email is still allowing to have only 200 emails on device even with IMAP, IDIOTIC I would say
- on my FW I cannot add Tasks in Calendar since no keyboard appears. I don't use them anyway but it's just a stupid bug.
The system is flying. The Z and Z2 comparison looks interesting, since Z with 2GB RAM always has about 650MB left,
and Z2 with 3GB RAM after 2 days has about 1GB left. It doesn't matter maybe but lol.
Anyway Z2 is just a bit faster and smoother.
But I also have to say that the technology today is on a very high level.
What means I could actually stay with Z for another year without feeling beeing behind in any way.
Just the geek inside me wanted me to be updated. And I have no regrets.
What else? Ask.
But I think THE CAMERA IS FANTASTIC.
P.S.
Just bought this in Carbon and it's great!!!

I agree with above in 100% and I think it is worth to say a word about battery. For me it was one of big decisive feature. It is a beast, in my situation bigger battery means 1 day more of common use which is 50 or 33% more.
Ah - uncovered headphone connecor - flap in Z drove me crazy
Glad to come back to Sony again. I had Z1 then note 3 then finally to Z2. A lot of improvements from Z1 either hardware or software wise! But I'll definitely miss the remote function.

Had to quickly reply to this. For me, the Clear Audio brings great clarity to call quality. It doesn't change music quality for me, but the call quality it brings is very nice.

Good to see a comparison from someone from a Z
How are you finding the wifi compared to the Z (stability and range)? The Z wifi was honestly my biggest hardware complaint, coming from an iphone.
Also, regarding the sound do you mean as a phone, or the stereo speakers for video/music playback? And in comparison to the Z. I did always find the Z audio playback a bit quiet through the speakers (eg I listen to audiobooks when I'm say cooking).
Cheers
I have used the z2 for a 2days, here is my thoughts about the z2 compare to my other phones.
what I like, Camera, UI, form factor, built quality, 3GB Ram, battery life, what I don't like, screen is not as bright as S5, if I turn the brightness all the way up, black text got washed out, I also don't like the audio, ring tone, notification, speaker volume are decent, not great, music from headphone output is
far below than M8 with Viper Audio mod, not even in the same class.
That being said, I don't mean the S5 or M8 is better than the Z2, they have their own problems.
Overall, the phone is fine, not worth the $730 I paid, especially S5 and M8 are being sold for $450 new.
I will flip it when the G3 is out.
