USB port warped? - Milestone 2 General

Hi guys, I'm having problems charging my ms2.
seems that the connector has slowly deformed due to extensive use and it now does not hold the cable properly anymore.
Any suggestion how I can fix this without breaking the usb port? Maybe try another micro usb cable with better fit?

hi guys, I soldered a 5v charger's +5v & ground wires to a female USB port, then connected to the mini-usb port of the Atom, external power was detected but it doesn't charge, what else do I have to do to trigger charging? thanks!

Interesting. I've noted similar issues, I first thought it was to do with the power current capacity however I'm not so sure now. What I did find was that if I plugged in the usb plug first and then turned the charger power on (e.g. car charger 850mA) then it would charge. However the original charger worked any which way. Also turning off the screen would result in slow charging even when it said not! Does this help?
There is some problem in oem battry driver, you can google to find the driver hotfix.

You must give two other pins short with resistor as i remember. This is in order to simulate USB connectivity, which original charger do.
This is for HP Ipaq rw6815 I have..

I don't think below method i safe enough, I think it's not a wise decision to shorten your data pins, but obviously work with iphone

Shorting the USB Port?

I bought a Nexus One with the infamous broken power button issue, and I am curious what would the effect be if I short the VCC and GND line in the charging port? Has anyone tried that? I am thinking that it will either fry the board or trick the phone to think that it is charging.
The reason I want to do this is because I travel a lot and I might not have access to USB charging if I want to swap the SIM card. I am familiar with the other tricks regarding remapping the trackball_center and I am going to install a version of CWM that doesn't support charging (that way the phone boots when I plug a charging cable).
So long story short... what do you think about attempting to short the micro USB charging/data port?

Not much.
Unless the unit is in USB host mode there will be no voltage on the Vcc line.
Even in USB host mode it should be current limited and do no damage.
Still, I wouldn't do it.
I don't know why you think that shorting it will do something useful.

I actually do not know, thus I asked... just trying to think outside the box about a way to trick the phone to think it is charging short of carrying a portable battery charger with me (which can be problematic on carry-on luggage).
Another idea I am thinking about is building a small flex cable using a conductive ink pen that permanently connect to the phone's battery on one side and a cut down male micro-usb on the other side (to slim it down). Such cable would be small enough to fold under the battery cover and allow it to close.
My question is: Will the ~3.7v be enough to get the phone to start charging? and do you foresee any issues with feeding power from the battery right back into the phone's charge port?

I think 3.7 won't be enough. Coz usb giving ~5V. So phone won't charge at smaller voltage.

N7 Wont Charge Unless cord is pushed down.

Hi, I have a micro usb cord that I have been using a long time, but just recently it wont charge my device unless I push it down. Im pretty sure that the pins in the male side arent making contact. Other cords work fine. I was wondering if I could somehow bend the pins up in order to make contact.
Usb port sounds faulty on this legacy device. Cut an extra USB cable. Solder or connect internally +/- points to the magnetic points on the side. Been running it on both mine and my wife's device ever since broke our USB port spoilt. Battery and charging is still good till today.

[help] tab a 8.0's usb port won't detect anything

Currently i have a problem with my samsung tab A 8.0. Days ago i accidentally dropped my tab while it was being charged, resulting in red Cross with lightning icon while i tried to plug it on anything, and suddenly all of my usb otg were not detected and it was not detected on my pc...even usb debugging was not detected too...i had opened its case and checked the continuity of its micro usb port and it still seemed ok...now i have no idea about how to solve this, do you know what to do if something like this happens?? I suspect its pcb track is broken so maybe i will need a new motherboard again...

How are you checking continuity? You would need to check it between the end of the USB cable and the solder points behind the micro USB pins. No point in testing to the actual pins.
The pins that solder to the board are extremely small and difficult to resolder, some sort of magnification is really required.
The way I do it is by using a solid conductor wire wrapped around the end of a decent soldering iron. Even then it's a difficult task and requires a steady hand.

USB cable not inserting fully/phone not fast charging

As of this morning I have been able to fully insert a USB charging cable into my H990. It can only be partially inserted (i.e. will not click into place), and as a consequence it will not accept a fast charge. I don't see any debris in the USB socket, and have run a toothpick around the inside of the socket to try to clear out any blockages (although I can't see any). I've also tried different cables, and they all have the same problem. Can anyone suggest how I might resolve this?
