Theres a thread for reviews - I liked the review but the battery section of the review didn't make a lot of sense nor does it give me an idea of how much screen time you managed. How many hours? Also how many hours with Stamina mode too.
Decent
Good review, but you should really go more in depth on how the phone perform moving around the ui, gaming, apps etc.

thanks alot dude

Did someone noticed 14.2.A.1.142?

In PTCRB is since yesterday a new FW certified. Again...
http://www.ptcrb.com/vendor/complete/view_complete_request_guest.cfm?modelid=24328
Question is: would it be released?
I don't think so. It's only certified. NOT YET RELEASED...

I guess no. This might be a test build for the path towards stable Kitkat.
Certified doesnt always mean that it would be rolled.
I guess sony will go straight to 4.4KK...
It could be like last update: 14.2.A.1.114 (certified) ==> 14.2.A.1.124 (certified) ==> 14.2.A.1.136 certified and released.
So again: wait and drink a cup of tea
After releasing New Flagship Device they might release kitkat for Z range

Therefore, that it's only a minor number forward from the last fw (136), it won't be anything near kitkat!
Maybe a minor Bugfix or extended update from 136 but nothing major!
Wait until the buildnumber changes to 14.3.X. to guess when kitkat will arrive, just a hint
sent from the 1
Kitkat won't be out before Barcelona - that's 100% and this could go out, maybe it's just some regional patch.
But it's nothing big - that's obvious from build number.

I'm actually really impressed by the rate of updates for the Z1 so far. Granted this might not be released, but it looks like Sony has finally learned to be decently constant with updates.
i thought some Danish Carrier leaked out that 4.4 KitKat was coming to the Z1 in March
cant find the site at the mo but will look again later

It was a polish carrier presenting the list when the Z will be updated, not the Z1!
The Z1 will most probably be updated first though

Yeah...They are working like crazy and fixing updates very quickly...
They are finally listening what we are talking...
And now with premium and elegant device like Z1 (and Z2 in the future) and great software - Sony will be the best choice (for me it always was)

That are mainly hardware issues and I really doubt it could be ever fixed...
Maybe they will succeed to make it better - like touchscreen sensitivity and yellow tint...
But that's not software - I'm 100% sure, why?
Because I'm using 290 firmware and it's working fantastic.
Without any touchscreen problems, with real white and black colors on screen and with great battery life...
Every single firmware I tried worked perfectly...534, 290 or 136 - without a single glitch.

Actually the Yellow tint is a known software, not hardware problem . The touchscreen problem is iffy, some say hardware while some say software. I actually would say the Z1 is almost flawless hardware wise, the problems start on the software side (yellow tint, camera, bluetooth, etc.)
It's good because that means Sony can fix most of the problems on the Z1. They already fixed yellow tint and bluetooth, now the touchscreen and camera optimization should happen soon.

I would say it's mix, it's a software, O.K but only on some devices which are using different screens and other parts (bluetooth chip and other parts).
It's impossible that you have problems and I don't have if we all have exactly the same hardware...
So the conclusion would be - we are both half right

Sensor co-processor

I saw in this page that the 4.4 xperia devices get this power saving feature(it is implemented).
It can be coded in android 4.3 but for Xperia Z1,Z1 compact and Z ultra and I thought maybe it can be coded for our Z too.
Here is the webpage of this explaining everything: http://developer.sonymobile.com/201...e-new-sensor-co-processor-video-code-example/
Devs, please help us get this feature ☺

Very interesting
Now I know why Intelligent Backlight and Intelligent Call handling will never work on Xperia Z, I've looked everywhere to find why the iEngine used by these apps wasn't able to find sensors data!

Yes. This is exactly the reason. You can also convert the dex files in the apk to readable classes and you'll see that the iEngine support specifically implements/calls the Co-Processor. And it will drain the battery pretty badly without the co-processor. So, I guess the Xperia Z is better off without these.
PS: I hate to admit it, but the Z has become "old"

It's hardware dependent, therefore unavailable to us. The article states which devices have the co-processor and the Z is not in the list.
I read this article myself earlier on and I just knew somebody would ask if we could use it.

Views on Xperia Z

I am currently using S3 and I love the display due to the amoled display. I am however tired of using Galaxy series as I have at least 5 phones which are galaxy.
I used to own Xperia S and flashing custom roms was a pain as I had to go through the whole bootloader unlocking process. Is it the same with Z?
Also I am a little concerned about the viewing angles and bad screen quality overall, is it all true?
This is the only phone that may be considered an upgrade over S3 due to the LTE and a full HD display. Else I can grab S4 but I want to personally avoid it...
Any comments/tips/suggestions are obviously welcome and appreciated.
If viewing angle are something of your concern then the XZ might not be something for you. Beside the viewing angles the screen is just great in my opinion (note: "opinion")
If the XZ you buy doesn't have an unlock able BL then you'll be out of luck.
You can still flash most custom roms, but you won't be able to get another kernel.
Sent from outer space...
I buyed the XZ because it has great design and great specs. And the water & dust resistence is always a handy feature to have.
There are a lot of good custom roms and kernels, and most of them you can flash with a locked bootloader.
About the screen, i think the screen is great. And i don't mind about the viewing angles, it's good for the privacy. :good:
But of course, that's my opinion. You have to make your own decisions
Sold my GS3 last year and got the Xz.
Never looked back however I'm looking to get something new soon as my contract was up in May. Nothing has really caught my attention yet so still happy rocking the Sony. It's a great phone that does not even need rooting.
Go for it.
Sent from my C6603 using XDA Free mobile app
Don't be put off by unlocking the bootloader. Do a bit of research, in particular, TA backup, flashtool and towelroot. Once unlocked, the XZ is a flashers dream

Viewing angles doesn't matter.
Its just wonderfull how powerfull the XZ is, viewing angles give you some private usage and not everyone need to know what you do on your phone, its personal ^^
Send from my XZ With My Own Personal Modified MoonWalker SuperB !
After the recent KitKat updates, the Xperia Z's screen has been really great, viewing angles are ALOT better than before, from what I've noticed and aside from that, you won't really get bothered about it unless viewing from extreme angles. Anywhere near head on to slightly tilted will be fine.
So unlocking the BL depends on luck? I never knew that because I never tried it on XS.

Unlocked the bootloader is not needed so far only if you wanna flash a custom kernel !
i still run on a locked bl and still have the "working" Bravia engine [Now X-Reality] and i dont wanna loose that for sure ^^

but for miui etc, you need a custom kernel, no?
EDIT: Also i heard that the triluminos display which is present in the latest Z1 and Z2, it actually gets rid of the viewing angle problem, so i wanted to know if that's something software based or hardware based.

Completely hardware based. I've never seen such a huge difference in a screen upgrade before. Z2 looks great. :good:

but z1 also has that...i was also considering z ultra because it's quite cheaphere but it's not practical.
I didn't make a TA backup before I rooted, which I regret. OTA updates are out of the question. Stock ftf flashing is no problem.

Trilluminous is just a fancy way of saying it's LED Backlit with better viewing angles, I actually have a Flickr Album dedicated to the color-tinge on some devices where there's a yellowish hue (this between my White balance adjusted Z vs a Z1 without adjustment) and have angled photos as well, they are pre-kitkat, which I feel re-calibrated/adjusted the Z's screen settings to give better viewing angles but still not the best. As for your choice between Z1, Z2, or Z Ultra. Honestly Whichever of the 3 works fine. The Z1 is still very capable as well as the Z Ultra and their displays are quite good.
You can refer to the Album if you think the display is something to worry about. Both devices are on full 100% brightness.

Dont expect camera improvements.
Dont expect camera improvements. [2]
Dont expect camera improvements. [3]
Why?
BTW I think it already takes good pictures.
Maybe not as good as a newer Galaxy or Iphone but still very good. (But yeah it could be better with those hardware specs but maybe they are using their bad sample sensors for their own xperia's and hide behind "software problems" and they couldn't do that anymore when they would allow RAW?)

Approx month
We’re starting our Android 5.1, Lollipop upgrade from today for Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet. Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z Ultra are next up, starting over the coming weeks – followed shortly thereafter by Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3, then the original Xperia Z Series… with Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua after that.

Ey, is everyone getting the sudden battery drop issue? You guys sure it ain't hardware related? Cuz if it is, I be selling my phone next month if this 5.1 update don't fix it. Gotta go back to removable battery like the G4 or Note 4, really gonna miss my Z1C though.
