Hi,
Is there something I can do for when I connect the mobile to the pc it mounts both internal and external SD cards.
At the moment is only mounting the external.
Thanks
You mean internal sd -> interna memory?
Yes it's possible just edit build.prop i didn't remember which parameters.
I would like to know how to do to include in MIUI release.
But the idea is when we plug to phone to the PC it mounts both cards

Aurora based ROMs don't support dual storage mount for PC in mass storage mode. Change the mode to MTP for dual mounting
Humm ok thanks.
Forumember, download the new miui I release, see the build.prop and see what you can do to enhance it even more. Thanks

If all the apps are installed on FAT32 SD partition, what happens when the SD card is mounted as mass storage? Do all apps become inaccessible? just like WinMo? Can some Froyo users share your experience? Thanks in advance!

What's mounted in Windows is the FAT32 partition on the sdcard. Apps2SD is on another partition, I believe a ext4 (linux only) - I don't use this myself by I remember some threads about ext2 -> ext3 -> ext4 conversion needed.
Android actually does not partition the SDcard and encrypts the apps onto the FAT32 partition. Apps that are on the SDcard will not be able to be run while the phone is mounted via USB. This is why applications can decide to not be able to be placed on the sdcard.

Thanks, that answers my question. I kind of prefer the old app2sd method then.....

From their (Google) perspective I guess they didn't want to get in the business of walking people through the process of carving out another partition and/or messing with existing sdcard contents. The "old" method was better, I don't think I'll be using the sdcard for apps, once I uninstall raging thunder 2 I'll have more than enough space
Why is it that mounting the sdcard for USB access makes it unavailable to the phone? That seems unnecessary. I can mount drives on my Linux box from my Windows computer and access them from both computers at the same time. Why does Android have this limitation?

You're using a network connection to share the drive, not mounting the drive locally.

Sure, but the point is that since multiple processes can share access to a drive, why can't the USB access be just another process that plays nice with all the user processes instead of requiring exclusive access?
Why not use the dual mount sd widget it mounts the sdcard for mass storage and leaves it accessible to android for use

Hello, I'm running Oxygen, and I can't find where to mount internal memory. On other ROMs, both the sdcard and the internal memory appeared when I connected to phone to my PC, but now only the sdcard appears.
Thanks in advance.

Hi don't know if it helps, but this config is in cm7 rom and it mounts both disks so put this (extracted first) in your etc folder replace if needed (backup your original) reboot phone and then try to mount and see what happens
Didn't worked for me. I think oxygen doesn't support mounting the internal memory. It's a known issue

maybe oxygen formats that partition with ex4? or 3? so windows don't mount it?
what if yo format it with phone menu and then press mount in storage menu.
No, the partition is fat, you can see this if you run /proc/mounts from adb shell.
So, how can I install a new ROM, without mounting the internal memory? Suggestions?

the problem is with the rom because at the storage settings it doesn't recognize any internal sd. Only your external. That's why windows don't mount it either.

Yes I have oxygen r1 too and install any new rom via clockworkmod. I paste from external sd to internal with root explorer (i think astro can do it also), boot to clockworkmod and install zip from sd card (the internal sd card).
Clockworkmod reads the internal sd card correctly.
Thanks, by the way, what's the internal sd folder?

Your internal sd card folder is named "HWUserData" and you can find it with a file manager (astro or root explorer etc...).
Sorry for my bad english
Thanks a lot
Your English is fine by the way
Hello. There is one thing that doesn't really work well by me: if I plug the phone (usb) and choose the mobile archive function, windows 7 detects 2 thing:
- space volume of 12 GB (the phone?)
- MICROSD32 (the name i used when i formatted it), which is 32 GB
The problem is that not the whole microsd is mounted: from the file browser on the phone, I can see that the micro sd is there, and then there is a folder named 'external_sd', and THAT folder is the folder that is been mounted on windows.
This doesn't allow me to read/write data files on the sd (application files, savegames, and so on)....because it doesn't mount that part of the micro sd.
Is there a way to fix this? I am always forced to copy/cut/paste things from the phone file browser...to get to the micro sd root...
And BTW i have root access now. if that can make a difference with this.
I just noticed that I am wrong, and BOTH volumes belong to the same micro sd....the mobile storage 12GB is the root of the microsd, while the other 32 GB volume....is also the microsd....but the external-sd folder....why this partitioning?????
external_sd is where your 32 giga micro sd should be mounted, if you're browsing from the phone.
You should have checked the option 'usb debugging ' in menu/applications/development'. Then connect the phone to pc and you should see the both internal and external storage.

It doesn't happen. I have usb debugging, but it mounts the micro sd as two volumes : 12 GB and 32 GB...which is impossible.
Also browsing from the phone, the mircrosd (sdcard) has an internal folder named 'external_sd'....weird.
Maybe I should reformat the card from the phone? I formatted from the computer before putting it in the phone...but it was completely empty.

i have similar problem where cwm thinks my external sd card is the inter al sd card when backing up etc. dunno what to do.

exactly, it is not a small problem....i'll wait until someone else knows more than we know...
After finding exfat files in the filesystem I formatted my external sd as exfat and the phone recognized and used it with no problems.
I am currently backing up my internal sd card to do the same
Note doing a format from storage settings still uses fat32 so format the card in a computer or unmount the card in the phone and use a adb shell to run
mkfs.exfat /dev/block/mmcblk1p1
after backing it up since you are formatting.

no problems with external but don't do the internal it didn't work for me it's still hard coded for fat32

I don't know if you looked in the vold.fstab file but I noticed this code in there while I was looking at how to swap internal SD cards: -
# internal sdcard
{
ums_sys_path = /sys/class/android_usb/f_mass_storage/lun0/file
secure_format = enable
discard = enable
supported_exfat = disable

The last line there sort of indicates that support is there but someone needs to try adjusting it I guess to test

It may be possible but I am not going to worry to much especially since I need to leave one as fat32 or else lose most CWM functionality since it doesn't support exfat.
if you format the card to exfat, does it work properly if you connect the phone in mass storage?

I had no problem using mass storage with the exfat formatted card. That is on my laptop that is running Linux with the exfat fuse modules.

of course it would, Microsoft created exfat.
I'd love to switch to exFAT for its advantages, but I just know if I switched to it, I would have to go back to FAT32 when I use CyanogenMod, namely due to the fact that you have to get patent licenses and crap from Microsoft to be able to implement exFAT, which I assume Samsung must hold so they can use it on their phones and TVs.
What we really want is MTP fully working on Linux and for the internal and external SD cards to be in EXT2/4 or something like that, and then it would keep both Windows and Linux users happy and we would have better file size support and performance.
That's my 2 cents.

I know that would be great if it happened. I know before I realized exfat worked I had mine ext4 and used a app to mount it but it had little drawbacks that this native support fixes.
Plus now I can connect my digital camera to my phone via OTG since it has a 64GB sdxc card that uses exfat which is another major plus. I always hated being out and not able to get my photos off it and passed out to other people until I got home and to a computer.
So I tried formatted my 64GB card (with FAT) directly from the mobile (in settings > storage > unmounts) and then I did a file system change using TWRP to ext4... then I couldn't see my external SD Card anymore...
i´m sure the rom/kernel support this format as the internal storage is formatted with ext4, so I guess there´s something I´ve done wrong... can anyone tell me what?
(by the way its not a problem with the card itself - I just tried re-formatting to Fat and it appeared again)...
Maybe format it using your pc and a program. I don't think windows has ext4 option by default.
thanks for your suggestion but as far as PCs go I only have my office laptop which is restricted in terms of installing apps so that option isn't possible for me...
Perhaps at a friend. Or maybe there are some android apps to do it.
