Here's a question for all you Nexus 4 pros. How do you transfer music to your phone? Every time I plug it into my computer and try to transfer music over, an error box pops up that says "your device might not be able to play or view this file" (attached screen shot). It does the same thing when I try to transfer any ringtones over as well.
I also have the Amazon mp3 app and have tried downloading my music from that onto my phone, but the Play Music app wont play it, an error pops up that says "Couldn't play the track you requested".
Any ideas??

it says might, have you tried if it will or not?
It shows the same pop-up for me as well, just ignore the warning and click on "Yes".

Anyone has this problem? Kinda annoying to have to softboot everytime after even just charging the phone...
Audiofiles show up fine in file explorer & play in media player, but HTC music player just informs "no music found".
ROM: latest MIRI.
Are you sync-ing with media player?
pls chek this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=647136
no, just dropping the files to SD card. Don't want to sync my music files with any computer (almost main reason that I sold iphone.. itunes....aaarrrrgghh..)
thanks for the link, but no help..
another question; Is there a way to disable the albumart fetcher? (i always make albumarts myself..) it countlessly tries to update the arts, but does nothing (..but takes resources..)
First post, and an attempt to help after lurking here for weeks. LOL.
I had the same problem with my audio files. I'd disconnect from the PC and it would say "no files found" or some such thing. However, if I went into the library and mucked about (not sure what I did the first time. Just sorta clicked around until I saw a list of music), I would see songs on my SD card, press one of them, and, voila, my Sense Player would, once again, find all of the songs I'd downloaded to the device.
I've not used Sync, however, as I hate Itunes style appz like that (they frighten and confuse me...). I have been dragging my folders over manually. I doubt that'd make a difference, though.

I do the DIY covers myself, as a lot of my "albums" are actually compilations of tunes I like best from a particular artist rather than actual albums (ergo, no covers actually exist)! I've not had an issue with the albumart fetcher trying to connect, though. I've didn't even know it was there until I hit it by mistake while flailing about on the touchpad (coming from a G1...this thing is SENSITIVE).
This isn't just the fact that your plugging in your phone to the pc and using it as a disk drive is it?? when you do that you cant access the files on the phone..
I guess its not though as you say you can view the files in explorer...

He didnt mean it like that. He was talking about that his music disappears AFTER he had connected the device to the pc. Afterwards the tracks dont appear in the player.
I didnt have this problem with the HD2 but with the HD...never seen it since i own the HD2.
I did some searching for about an hour now and haven't found anything pertaining to my problem, about a month ago i suddenly couldn't play videos that i have recorded on my phone. Theres no error message that pops up nor does the phone freeze. When i click any video file in my album it slightly expands, like normal signaling that it recognized that i clicked it, but the phone doesn't do anything. ive tried opening them in windows media player and no such luck. the player pulls the file name and says ready beneath it, i click play flashing opening for a split second. the file then switches to the next video file and does the same thing
*after posting i dug around more on windows media player and finally found an error code "source filter for this file could not be loaded" googled it and traced it to a youtube app, once uninstalled videos are back up and running*
I transfered all my music from computer ove to my tab. Ok now when i go into the stock "music" app it says the media library is empty. It tell me to connect with usb to get music and to click for more info. I click for more info and it just closes the music app every single time! What should i do guys? Also if i try to download or save a photo from the browser it wont let me. This means im stuck with the **** wall paper this tab came with.... If i cant change my wallpaper to stuff i wanto download and i cant play any of my music i sware to god im not even going to senditback to amazon. Im just going to use it as a frisbeeee!
Edit- also 50% of the time i open my "galary" it says there are no pics or files in there. But the otherhalf ofthe time it reads them perfeectly well.... FML
To start off with not recognizing unknown sources, you have to go into settings>applications> unknown sources must be checked. That should let you download pictures from the web. For the music, did you drag and drop your music to the Music folder... And do you have Samsung kies for your computer that your plugging your tab into?
Edit: you should try restarting you tablet, I think that should fix the reading issue.
I already had unknown sources checked. I have the windows 7 kies which downloaded and installed with no hiccups. I used the file transfer promps that it gives me when i plug my tab into my windows 7pc. I restarted several times:-(
Edit- it turns out the downloading of a picture was just a certain web site i was on. It now works. Still no dice onthe over 7gof music i downloaded though. Also on walpapers. I downloaded a 1280x800 picture and when i go to set it as my wallpaper it will only let me selepart of the middle of the picture with a box i have to use like a cookie cutter?
I put some music on my phone, but I only selected certain tracks. For example, I picked 4 songs from an album and it shows ALL the songs that I have from that artist in my phone and they're all playable. I plug in my nexus 4 and check the music folder and it only has the 4 songs that I put in there. I don't use any sort of clouds either.

In that case, Google play music will show you all of the music that you've uploaded to your account, regardless of whether or not it's physically on your phone. So if you have the full album uploaded to play music, then you'll see the full album on your phone. If you want to play songs that aren't physically on your phone, it will stream them over the internet from play music.
You can hide music that's not on your phone if you go into the play music app, tapp the arrow next to 'All Music' at the top left, and select 'On Device Only'

I don't remember uploading any music to google play music. How can I delete them?

Go to http://play.google.com/music on a pc. You can see what you've got there and delete them if you want.
By the way, you Google gives you some free music when you buy a Nexus 4, so that might be what you see uploaded there. I think I had about a dozen songs that Google added to my play music account for free.
Once you delete any music file from your Google play account, it makes it permanent. So make sure that you don't delete anything you paid for, because if you do, then you will have to buy it again. It doesn't work like apps where you buy it and if you delete it you can always re-download it again. If you delete paid music from your Google play account, then its permanent delete. I found that the hard way!
Like the title says, I have a paid google play music account. but when i click the downlooad button, there's like a 1/10 chance the playlist will actually download.
Most of the time nothing happens and I just click click away. I've tried reinstalling, clearing cache and i haven't revoked any app permissions. Lastly Im using a nexus 6p and the issue has exist on 6.0.1 as well no matter if I'm on work or home WiFi. could someone please help me tackle this? Thanks!
Click Play, and in the play window, click Save Queue. Download the queue once saved.
It should download the first 25 this way, however if you view the song playlist and scroll down a few times, you'll get all the songs (eventually).

Thanks wiltron, I will try this out. But still would love to know why I can't just click download since your fix may take more time.

So yes this works, but I would rather not have to play a playlist, therefore interrupting my current song to download music. Anyone else experiencing this?
try going into settings and click on "refresh"
